After Delhi HC denied his anticipatory bail, Congress leader P Chidambaram goes into hiding, gives CBI the slip

Earlier today, the Delhi HC judge while denying P Chidambaram an anticipatory bail made scathing remarks about his role in the INX Media Scam. "Facts of the case prima facie reveal that the petitioner is the kingpin, that is, the key conspirator in this case," the judge observed.

After the Delhi High Court today rejected senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail plea, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrived at the former finance minister’s residence to arrest to him. However, the politician gave the investigative agency a slip to evade his arrest.


P Chidambaram is currently untraceable and his whereabouts unknown as the agencies go out looking for him. A 6-member CBI team arrived at Chidambaram’s Jorbagh residence only to find that he is missing. After CBI, the Enforcement Directorate has also reached Chidambaram’s defence colony residence.

Meanwhile. P Chidambaram swiftly moved the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Delhi High Court which denied him the anticipatory bail. An urgent listing of the petition was sought. The apex court is scheduled to hear Chidambaram’s plea tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM.

P Chidambaram is accused in the INX Media scam which involves charges of bribery and lobbying in granting foreign investments worth over Rs 300 crores to INX Media. INX Media was later known as NewsX, it was owned by Peter and Indrani Mukherjee of the sensational Sheena Bora murder case. Chidambaram is accused of misusing his power as the finance minister to grant INX Media an FIPB clearance.
