Paris: Audience of Joker movie flee cinema hall after man shouts ‘Allahu Akbar’ to rob people

0

In a shocking incident, a screening of Hollywood movie ‘Joker’ in Paris was disrupted on Sunday night after a man yelled Islamic slogan “Allahu Akbar” in an alleged attempt to spark panic in order to stage a robbery.

According to reports, the shocking incident occurred after a 34-year-old man shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ at the Grand Rex cinema on Sunday 27 October where the recent Hollywood blockbuster movie Joker was being screened. According to a witness, the man first started repeatedly shouting “It’s political!”, which initially drew laughs from the audience. Soon other audience members asked him to “shut up” while others began to panic, the witness said.

After the shouts of “It’s political,” the man stood up, placed his hands on his chest and started yelling “Allahu akbar!,” or ‘God is great’ in Arabic, said the witness.

“People panicked, ran to the exits,” the source reportedly said. “Some were crying. A mother was looking for her daughter,” he added. Another witness reportedly said that the people were climbing over seats to escape while others were on the floor and being stepped over.

Reportedly, his actions caused panic and chaos inside the cinema as people scrambled from their seats and made for the exit, as someone in the audience claimed the man had a gun, which later turned out to be incorrect.

Speaking to the media, the director of the Grand Rex said that the suspect, working with another accomplice, staged the incident on purpose in order to rob valuables left behind by fleeing audience members. “They were two thieves looking for a way to take people’s phones and bags. Apparently they had already used the same tactic once on a train,” he said. He added that the cinema is pressing charges against the suspect.

As jihadi terrorists often chant ‘Allahu Akbar’ before blowing themselves up with suicide bombs or attacking people with firearms and other weapons, the Islamic expression nowadays creates panic when shouted in public places. The suspects wanted to take advantage of this fear among people for the expression.

When the man tried to leave the theatre, he was apprehended by several moviegoers and a security guard, although he eventually managed to escape in the chaos. But one person managed to snatch his jacket, which contained a phone and a pass bearing the man’s name. The man was later arrested by Paris police, and he didn’t have any weapon with him. The theatre was evacuated after the screening of the movie had ended, and Paris police sent bomb squad and sniffer dogs to search for weapons or explosives, but no suspicious item was found.

Faithless, directionless state: The ‘Secular State’ has been hijacked to work against the welfare of its very own citizenry

There’s something fundamentally broken in the way how the country is run, isn’t there? We might differ on what exactly it is but deep down, we are all aware that things are not as they should be. Matters of serious concern do not receive as much attention as they should while trivial matters incur the wrath of the Indian state.

There is a backlog of lakhs and lakhs of cases in the Courts, if not crores, and yet, the Judiciary finds the time to waste its resources and that of the state on the most frivolous of matters. ‘Civil society’ impedes a host of infrastructure projects while the Judiciary continues to entertain them. At the same time, the Judiciary finds enough time to offer numerous edicts on how Hindus should celebrate their festivals. It has been overzealous in recent times in its attempts to reform Hinduism and the political establishment has done nothing thus far to put a stop to it. Needless to say, there’s something more fundamental about the matter at hand here.

The unprecedented and atrocious general trend that has gripped the country in recent times is a matter of great concern indeed. It’s important to understand that people did not vote for this. Democracy claims to be a government by the people, of the people, and for the people. In reality, it is mobocracy at best and the rule by an unaccountable elite at its worst. There appears to be a great schism between the ruling establishment, both the political and the judicial, and the citizens of this country. If such differences are allowed to persist for too long, the inevitable consequence would be anarchy.

People are being treated as criminals for engaging in festivities in the traditional way while governments are too afraid to take action against actual criminals. The ruling establishment is busy criminalizing more and more ordinary victimless activities while it doesn’t even have the capacity of enforcing its own laws. There’s something fundamentally broken in our country today and unless this is addressed, things will not get better.

Who is to blame?

How did we go from bursting crackers during Diwali as a matter of tradition to a point where the practice is not just demonized but banned by law, violation of which leads to imprisonment? Of course, it didn’t happen in a day. The citizenry was exposed to propaganda for over a decade and ultimately, when the resistance of the population was sufficiently broken, firecrackers were banned by the secular state of India.

The ruling political establishment has to take its share of the blame as well. But the fundamental issue at hand here is the fact that the Secular State has an insatiable urge to reform the Hindu religion as they see fit. Since they can’t reform Islam, they overcompensate for their failure by going overboard on Hinduism.

Not just Diwali, the Secular State wants to decide the height of Dahi Handis, it has banned Pashubali in Tripura, it outlawed the traditions of the Sabarimala Temple. And during all this time, the Secular State hasn’t found the moral integrity required to pass judgment on the Ram Janambhoomi case. There’s something fundamentally wrong here and even political parties that claim to respect Hindu sentiments are not immune to the affliction of Secularism.

Read: After Sabarimala, now Maa Tripureswari Temple, the Judiciary is killing the diversity of traditions within Hinduism

From what we have seen so far, the urge of Secular States to reform religion, mostly of the dominant religion of its citizenry, is insatiable. We see it in the West and we see it in India. While Secularism advertises itself as being a system of government that does not interfere in religious affairs, in practice, it is reduced to forcibly reforming people out of their religion. In some instances, especially where monotheistic cults are dominant, the consequences could be good. But for a polytheistic society such as India, the results are terrible.

The Perils of Secularism

Something that has become obvious in recent times is the fact that Secularism destroys the immunity of native populations to resist radical alien ideologies that threaten to destroy their native cultures. It could also be said with a fair degree of certainty that Secularism and Liberalism go hand in hand and to speak of one is to speak of the other. The combination of these two radical ideologies could only spell the doom of nations.

In Europe, we see this playing out to perfection. Little children were sacrificed at the altar of liberalism. They were raped and pushed into prostitution by Muslim grooming gangs and the entire political establishment conspired to hush up the entire matter in order to maintain the ethos of liberalism. The migrant crisis in the European Union, that has made the countries much less safe than they were before, was an inevitable consequence of the long march of liberalism.

In the USA, the rabid Left that seeks to transform little children into transgenders with medical procedures is only another step along the path of progressivism. Drag Kids are a thing now in the United States and mainstream politicians are effectively arguing for the abolition of national borders. There are numerous other fundamental matters that have gone awry in both, the USA and the European that are too vast to be discussed here, but it can be safely said that the secular-liberal memeplex paved the way for the monstrosities we witness in both these societies today.

For India, it has several ramifications. Secularism is essentially a monotheist meme that was crucial for maintaining some sort of civility in monotheistic societies. It was a compromise between various factions of such societies that entailed keeping religion out of government so that no one particular sect gets to dominate the levers of power. At its core, secularism decrees that religion is a private affair and public administration should not be involved in such matters.

Read: State vs Hindus – how Indian politics has destroyed the notion of ‘secularism’

However, polytheistic societies are fundamentally different from monotheistic societies. Our Constituent Assembly realized that Indian society was greatly at odds with western societies where Secularism had flourished and thus, had to leave that word out of the Constitution. It was later inserted in the Indian Constitution by Indira Gandhi during the Emergency, at a time when democratic rights of the citizenry were suspended.

It can be legitimately argued that the greatest threat that Hinduism faces today is the lack of state support for its sustenance. Hinduism has over a billion followers across the world, the overwhelming majority of which lives in India. However, there’s not a single country that we could call our own. Radical Islam is on the rise today because it has state support from numerous oil-rich countries who use their money to fund Radical Islamic ideologues abroad. Hindus do not have that kind of infrastructure at their disposal to ward off such threats. Private enterprise by Hindus could not hope to compete with Radical Islam that has the backing of numerous countries and Christianity that is funded by the Vatican and the states of numerous countries.

Secularism in India has essentially destroyed the immunity of Indian society to ward off such threats. Most significantly, it has perverted the Indian State to such an extent that it acts against the faith of its majority community. Electoral outcomes don’t appear to affect such inclinations of the Secular State and that’s because the system is rotten at its very core.

Secularism: An Organized Religion

With time, true to its monotheistic heritage, Secular-Liberalism has turned into a religion of its own. It’s an organized religion that has its own version of clergy, preachers, Satan and God. Thus, Hindu society currently is not just at war with Radical Islam and Christian missionaries but also with the Indian State itself that has adopted the religion of Secularism-Liberalism. The Secular state seeks to reform Hinduism, not because of environmental concerns or animal rights or anything of that sort, these are just excuses. It seeks to reform Hinduism because an organized religion with monotheistic heritage could not ever bring itself to tolerate a polytheistic faith.

The current political system is not working out very well for Hindus, although they have tasted some victories under the current ruling establishment. At the same time, however, Hindu traditions and customs have been under attack consistently from the Secular State and that cannot be ignored. Democracy claims to be the will of the people, and yet, Hindus did not vote for the banning of firecrackers or Pashubali in Temples, they did not vote for the Secular State to regulate the height of Dahi Handis or to desecrate the Sabarimala Temple. Yet, these decisions were forced down the throat of Hindu society against their will.

We have to ask the question here, does the government in a Secular-Liberal Democracy reflect the will of the people? Judging from the events that have transpired in India, it doesn’t appear to be the case. And judging from the West as well, it appears to be far from it. Americans do not want unlimited immigration, they did not vote for illegal wars in the Middle-East, they did not vote for manufacturing jobs to be shifted outside the country, they did not vote for the legalization of puberty blockers for little kids. Yet, these decisions were forced down their throat all the same. In Europe, it is hard to imagine that people voted for its political establishment to engage in a conspiracy to silence the outburst of Muslim grooming gangs. They had to cope with these decisions all the same.

The religion of Secular-Liberalism is not conducive to the health of a society, as is obvious from developments that are occurring around the world. It is a recipe for chaos and disorder and public anguish. People might argue that the fate that has befallen the West is not necessarily an indictment of Secular-Liberalism per se but of the failures of the political establishment itself. There’s merit in that argument on the face of it but the West has turned out precisely how one would expect Secular-Liberal Democracies to play out in societies on a theoretical basis.

Secularism: At War with the Natural Order

Individualism is at the core of Secular-Liberalism. It’s not hard to imagine that a system of governance that is based on the rights of individuals will find it extremely difficult to motivate the individual to perform his or her duties towards the collective. Secular-Liberalism, essentially, is at war with collective identities. It is at war with religion because it is the largest meaningful collective. Religious traditions are a demonstration of the collective identity of an individual and, as a consequence, they must either be ‘secularized’ or banned outright.

After undermining religion, attempts are made to undermine the next greatest collective as well: Nationalism. It is not surprising that Nationalism has become such a demonized word in the West today. Nationalism demands that individuals, on certain occasions, have to go out of their way to perform their duties towards the collective and engage in actions such as standing up for the National Anthem even when they don’t want to as a demonstration of loyalty and affirmation of the greatness of the collective good. Secular-Liberalism cannot tolerate that.

After Nationalism, Secular-Liberalism came for local communities which often tend to revolve around religion. Local communities were portrayed as an impediment towards the free expression of the individual and hence, they ought to be destroyed. It has succeeded in that to a certain extent in urban areas but the innate natural desire of humans to live in societies has ensured that Secular-Liberalism hasn’t achieved the success it thought it would.

After local communities, Secular-Liberalism came for the family. It has demonized the family and glorified rebellions of the individual against the institution. Yes, bad families do exist and sometimes, the greatest enemy that a person faces is his own family. However, it cannot be denied that a healthy family is the bedrock of civilization. Without healthy families, nations could not ever hope to prosper. It is important to remember that bad families are anomalies and the vast number of families help an individual lead proper lives.

A family is the smallest unit of civilization. Sustaining civilization isn’t possible without healthy families. But after decades of Secular-Liberalism, the West sees insanely high rates of divorces, broken families and people who loathe their previous generations. It is a recipe for high rates of crime and there’s a great degree of literature that points toward that. The destruction of the family is also a natural consequence of the breakdown of local communities.

After religion, nationalism, local communities and families, it was inevitable that Secular-Liberalism would come for the next collective, that is, gender. Secular-Liberalism has weaponized gender and has led to the ‘war of the sexes’ and gender been obfuscated beyond measure and if they had their way, gender would become a meaningless word.

Secularism: The Consequences

Essentially, Secular-Liberalism, true to its monotheistic heritage, is up at arms against the natural order of things. It is a testament to the strength of the natural order that despite a barrage of propaganda, religion, nationalism, local communities, families, and gender continue to exist like they always have. However, there have been massive consequences and they have been severe.

The rise of the ‘Trumpian Right’ and the Far-Left of the Bernie Sanders variety that we see in the West today, a similar version of which is being played out in India as well, is a consequence of the war that Secular-Liberalism has declared upon the natural order of things. The youth, predominantly, are attracted to such populist ideologies in the West because the existing order has failed them.

Secular-Liberalism has declared war upon Hindu festivals and traditions because they are an affirmation of the individual’s collective identity. The Secular State banned firecrackers because bursting them is so much fun and while having fun, people also reaffirm their collective identity as Hindus. The Secular State banned the traditions of Sabarimala because men were willing to endure numerous austerities during the pilgrimage and push themselves through the limits of endurance to reaffirm their collective identity as Hindus, as devotees of Swami Ayyappa. Secular-Liberalism cannot tolerate such celebration of collective identities and therefore, they had to be banned.

It also needs to be understood that a nation can strive for greatness only when it is strongly rooted in religion. A nation cannot aspire for greatness while its culture is in a state of disarray. Japan overcame its defeat in the second world war and the devastation it wreaked on the back of a society rooted strongly on Shinto ideals. China is not religious it could be argued but its economic miracle was based on a system of governance based on collective identity as well.

The reason why frivolous PILs from NGOs are allowed to stall important developmental projects is that the ideological beliefs of these NGOs are perfectly in sync with the ideological worldview of the Judiciary. There’s a reason why PILs filed by Hindus aren’t anywhere near as effective as the ones filed by the likes of Prashant Bhushan. The Judiciary is filled by the co-religionists of Bhushan and co-religionists, as we know, tend to treat each other very differently from how they treat followers of other religions.

Can the Rigged System be Fixed?

At the heart of the matter is the fact that under Secular-Liberalism, the State has been hijacked to work against the welfare of its very citizenry. The State has been perverted to undermine the nationalism, religion, local communities and the institution of the family of the population it rules over. In India, they haven’t been very successful yet, but that’s not due to a lack of effort. It is more due to the fact that the social values of India are so strong that the population has been able to resist the continuous onslaught of the Secular State with a relative degree of success.

It’s not to say that Indian society has been able to resist it completely. But compared to the West, India has put up a much greater resistance and it continues to resist with tooth and nail the perversion that is unleashed by Secular-Liberalism. It’s important to under that under Secular-Liberalism, the state directs all its energies towards undermining the interests of its own citizenry. More than being just directionless, it exhausts its effort towards social engineering designed to radically reform the existing culture and prevailing social mores to conform to the will of a deracinated elite.

Is a reset of the system that exists enough or even possible? We cannot say if a reset or restoration is possible because the party that won the General Elections on the basis of Hindu consolidation was only overeager to enforce the ban on firecrackers and even advocated for it. Furthermore, a reset under current circumstances would imply that few decades down the line, maybe two, maybe three, the Secular State may again ban Hindu traditions and customs that have been practised by our people for centuries. In addition to all of this, a reset may require the same amount of collective effort as outright restoration. Therefore, if both options require similar energies, a restoration is indeed more preferable.

But we are dealing with hypotheticals here, we cannot even say for certain if Hindu society has the willingness to demonstrate the strength necessary, which it undoubtedly possesses in sufficient measure, to effect either a reset of a restoration. However, we should not ignore the significance of what happened during Diwali or at Sabarimala following the Court verdicts. Hindus came out in open rebellion against the Secular State and prevented the desecration of the Sabarimala and burst crackers to their heart’s content. In the times we live in, these are indeed signs to be optimistic about.

Walayar rape case: After public outrage, Kerala government to file an appeal against court verdict, change prosecutor

After facing massive protest over the handling of Walayar Rape case, in which two minor Dalit girls were brutally raped and murdered, the Kerala government has now decided to file an appeal against the court order acquitting the accused in the Walayar rape case.

According to the reports, the Communist government in Kerala led by Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday took the decision to file an appeal against the trial court verdict that had acquitted all the accused in the brutal murder and rape of two minor girls.

The high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan along with state police chief and Director General of Prosecution Manjeri Sreedharan Nair also decided to replace the public prosecutor.

“We will approach the court to continue with the investigation. All the legal possibilities to conduct a re-trial will be sought,” said Nair.

On Monday, the civil society members across the country, especially in Kerala had expressed massive outrage against the Kerala government following the acquittal of all four persons in the rape and death case of two minor Dalit girls in Walayar in Palakkad district.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had also found lapses from investigating officials in the case. Following this, CM had said in the Assembly that it would be decided after examinations whether a CBI probe or a re-probe was required or not.

Two years after two minor sisters in Walayar in Palakkad district were found dead in mysterious circumstances, a court in Palakkad on Friday acquitted three persons who were accused of abetment of suicide and rape of the two minor Dalit girls.

It is being accused that the Kerala police under political pressure, allegedly helped the accused evade the conviction by weakening the case. Ironically, the accused in the case are CPI(M) workers and the defence lawyer was a local CPI(M) leader.

The Case:

The two minor Dalit girls, who were sisters, were found hanging after being sexually assaulted in January and March 2017 in Attappalam in Walayar, near Kerala’s border with Tamil Nadu.

The elder sister, who was 13 years old, was found hanging in her house on January 13, 2017. Within two months, her 9-year-old younger sister was also found hanging in her house on March 4, 2017. The minor girls belonged to the Scheduled Caste community. According to the postmortem reports, the girls were subjected to sexual assault. The autopsy report in the case of the younger girl even suggested the possibility of homicidal hanging.

However, the police did not investigate the murder charges and the final report was submitted against four accused – V Madhu, M Madhu, Shibu and Pradeep Kumar for offences of abetment of suicide, rape and unnatural sex under the Indian Penal Code and penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act.

Another accused is a juvenile and proceedings against him are progressing in the Juvenile Justice Board.

The Special POCSO Court, Palakkad had acquitted one of the accused Pradeep Kumar on September 30. On Friday, the First Additional Sessions Judge (Special POCSO Court) of Palakkad district acquitted three accused in the case – V Madhu, Shibu and M Madhu – citing that the prosecution was not able to prove their involvement in the case.

Advocate N Rajesh, who had been defending the accused, was also made the chairman of the Child Welfare Committee when the trial was underway, adding to further speculations over the ruling party’s involvement in protecting the accused.

Syrian media activist rescues a puppy after his mother died in the US raid which killed ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

While Conan, K9 commando who chased down ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi down a tunnel has won hearts, another puppy was left orphaned as the US raid claimed life of his mother.

Fared Alhor, a Syrian activist, shared images on micro-blogging site Twitter of the little puppy looking lost and sad as he moved around in rubble, trying to find his mother.

Four hours after the mission was over, Alhor went to the site and took the little dog to a safe place and put him with a family of puppies and their mother. “He is very happy with his new family,” he tweeted.

The puppy is now named Bobe and netizens have thanked Fared for rescuing the little one.

ISIS chief and one of the most dreaded terrorists, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed on 27th October, 2019 when he detonated a suicide vest after a raid by the US troops. He was buried at sea.

The operation that took out ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi named after Kayla Mueller who was abducted, raped and killed in ISIS custody

Twenty-two year old Kayla Mueller started assisting Syrian refugees in Turkey in December 2012. On 3rd August 2013, she travelled to Aleppo, Syria, with a Syrian resident to install communication equipment at Doctors Without Borders hospital in Aleppo. Doctors Without Borders staff cautioned her presence in middle of a civil war. Fearing her safety decided to send her back to Turkey.

A day later, Mueller, along with the Syrian resident, were being driven to a bus stop so that she can go back to Turkey when she, along with the Syrian resident, were abducted by the ISIS. Her companion was released a few months later but Mueller never made it.

The negotiations

Nine months after she disappeared, in May 2014, Mueller’s parents received first message from her abductors. The ISIS gave proof that she was alive. On 12th July, 2014, her parents received another message. They were asked to give them 5 million Euros as ransom within 30 days if they wanted her alive. Or they could exchange Mueller for Pakistani scientist who studied in US, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who was convicted of killing US soldiers and FBI agents in Afghanistan in 2008. Dr Siddiqui was serving her sentence in a jail in Texas. As deadline passed, they didn’t get any more notes. The family hoped that their daughter Kayla may still be alive.

Rescue attempts

The US military reportedly made several attempts to rescue Mueller. As reported, in July 2014 the US troops came quite close to rescuing her during a raid in an abandoned oil factory in Raqqa, Syria. Troops found evidence of hostages being kept there like writing on the walls and hair believed to be of Kayla.

The Obama administration and her death

The Muellers, along with other parents of US hostages held by ISIS, travelled to Washington and met the Obama administration officials and tried to push them to get their children freed. Soon, the ISIS started posting beheading videos of American hostages. Soon, ISIS released a video of beheading of a Jordanian pilot who was captured by the terror organisation. Jordan, in retaliation, began bombing ISIS targets in Syria. It was reported that in one such bombings, Kayla Mueller was also killed at age 26. While in captivity, it is believed that Kayla was tortured and raped by al-Baghdadi himself. She was reportedly treated worse for being an American.

Kayla Mueller

US National Security Advisor, Robert O’Brien, while speaking to the press on the operation that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, said that the operation was named after Kayla Mueller.

“We finally brought justice to a man that beheaded the three Americans, two journalists and a humanitarian worker. And Kayla Mueller who was working as a humanitarian, great young American, idealistic, young girl. And one of the things that General Milley, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, did was named the operation that took down al-Baghdadi after Kayla Mueller, after what she had suffered. That was something that people should know. But justice was brought to those Americans who were so brutally killed, as were others, as the president pointed out,” he said.

Pakistan: Male DNA found on the body and clothes of Hindu girl from Sindh who was found dead in hostel room

0

The Pakistani police officials have carried out an investigation in connection with the mysterious death of a female Hindu dental student in Sindh, which has revealed that the DNA samples of a male suspect have been found on the body and clothes of the deceased Namrita Chandani.

These investigations have given a new twist to the case as earlier the college administration was claiming that the death was a suicide and had denied any foul-play.

Reportedly, Masood Bangash, who is a senior police officer in Larkana district said that they have Namrita Chandani’s DNA report which says DNA of a male person has been found on Nimrita’s body and clothes. Bangash added that the forensic laboratory has issued the DNA report of Namrita and the same will be produced before the court of law.

“Police on September 17 has sent the blood samples and clothes of Namarta to the Jamshoroo forensic laboratory. On Monday, we received the report that revealed the DNA samples of a male on her body and clothes,” he was quoted as saying by Daily Pakistan.

The officer further added that Namrita’s investigation has taken a new turn following the revelation about the DNA sample.

Hindu student Namrita Chandani, a final year BDS student in the Bibi Asifa Dental College of Larkana, Pakistan was found dead in her room in September. Namrita Chandani was found lying on a cot with a rope tied around her neck while her room was locked from inside.

She hailed from Mirpur Mathelo in Ghotki region and was pursuing medical education at Bibi Asifa Dental College. Reportedly, the college administration tried to pass it as suicide. However, the evidence points in the other direction.

There were signs that she struggled to save her life. Her phone also went missing which was later recovered by the police.

Earlier, the Sindh police had detained 32 suspects, including two classmates of the victim Mehran Abro and Ali Shan Memon, after tracing the call data from the deceased’s cell phone. The two suspects were sent into the custody by the police after they traced the call data from Namrita’s cell phone. Namrita’s room was locked from inside.

The police claimed that Abro had conceded that the two were romantically involved. According to the police officials, Abro had said that Namrita had discussed the possibility of marriage with him which he rejected.

Following the incident, the Sindh High Court on September 25 had ordered a judicial inquiry into the death case of Namrita as her family alleged that she may have been murdered. A one-member judicial commission comprising Larkana district and sessions judge had launched the probe into the death of the Hindu girl.

The brother of the victim, Dr Vishal had also said that there were signs of strangulation with a cable wire around her neck and marks on her arms which indicated she was being held down. He demanded that the case must be investigated fairly and citizens should support his family.

The mysterious death of Hindu student Namrita had come just a day after violence against minority Hindus was unleashed by Muslims from Ghotki, Pakistan, the region where the deceased hailed from. Ghotki, a city in Pakistan’s Sindh province has been known for the persecution of Hindus, at the hands of Islamic leaders who enjoy protection and promotion by the Pakistani government.

Despite being reprimanded by Madras HC, Tamil Nadu government set on giving away temple land to illegal squatters

The Tamil Nadu government is determined to give away thousands of acres of Temple land to illegal squatters. The Madras High Court had warned earlier that the Tamil Nadu government is helping illegal squatters and come down heavily on th govt, however, despite the High Court observations, the Tamil Nadu government has reiterated its position to issue pattas to people squatting illegally on temple land.

The Tamil Nadu government had filed a counter-affidavit in High Court that categorically states that the Tamil Nadu government has decided to give patta to illegal squatters on Temple lands. According to the affidavit, the govt will give patta to the poor families who have been squatting on temple lands for a ‘considerable period of time’ after compensating the department for the land.

“It is not a blanket order and the encroachments in the temple lands will be taken up temple-wise, based on the availability of temple land and after getting concurrence of the Hindu religious and charitable endowments department,” the state said through a counter filed by S Anandhan, deputy secretary, revenue department, according to a report in Times of India.

Interestingly, here the Tamil Nadu government seems to be saying that the govt would compensate a department of the govt before giving away Temple land to squatters, while not even considering the temple itself as a stakeholder.

Read: Church in Thanjavur prevents residents of Nirmala Nagar from constructing a Ganesha temple on community land

The Tamil Nadu government, though has said that the poor squatters will be given a patta, it has not yet outlined the criteria it will apply to grant patta to the illegal squatters.

Furthering the rationale of the government compensating itself for giving away temple land, the affidavit has reportedly further said, in respect of such encroachments of temple lands necessary action will be taken to purchase the land from the department for which proposals would be sent to the government from temple-wise through HR and CE commissioner.

The Tamil Nadu government has conveniently asserted that the HR and CE commissioner will decide on a case to case basis having regard to the parameters in the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act. However, they have refused to give any specific parameters thereby giving unbridled power to the government itself to give away temple land.

The affidavit also cited a November 2018 order that said that according to the order, temple lands are permitted to be sold for public purposes to government departments and public-sector undertakings. Accordingly, temple lands encroached by poor for the residential purpose would be considered for purchase by the revenue department for grant of house-patta for eligible poor families.

Perhaps the most worrying aspect of this entire affidavit is that the Tamil Nadu government will possess the absolute power to decide which temple land should be given away to squatters, while the Tamil Nadu govt compensates itself for the land, without even considering the Temple itself as a stakeholder in the decision making process.

In September 2019, the Madras High Court had slammed the Tamil Nadu government for its decision to give away temple lands. “Technically, the state is trying to help encroachers by making the encroachments legal”, a division bench of Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice N Seshasayee had said.

Two Manipur separatists claim the titular King’s approval to launch ‘govt in exile’ in the UK, King distances himself

Two dissident leaders from Manipur claiming to be the representatives of King Leishemba Sanajaoba on Tuesday announced the launch of the “Manipur Government in exile” in London.

Addressing a press conference, Yamben Biren, who claims to be the ‘Chief Minister of Manipur State Council’ and Narengbam Samarjit, claiming to be the ‘Minister of External Affairs and Defence of Manipur State Council’ said they were speaking on behalf of the ‘Maharaja of Manipur’ to formally launch the government in exile — “The Manipur State Council”.

The two separatists, Biren and Samarjit produced some documents to suggest that they have been granted political asylum in the UK in August this year. They claimed that the ‘de jure government’ is shifted from Manipur to London.

However, the King of Manipur has issued a statement distancing himself from the announcement made by separatists claiming to be his representatives. According to Angellica Aribam, a Manipuri NSUI leader, the king has stated that he was made to sign some documents by these representatives on the pretext of acquiring some Manipur-related documents and pictures from London. However, he is unaware of the declaration made by these separatists.

Meanwhile, the separatists claimed, “We believe that now is the right time to make public the Independent Government of Manipur before the international community and seek recognition. We call on all the Governments of the sovereign states of the members of the United Nations for their recognition of the de jure and exile Government of the Manipur from today onwards.”

“The three million Manipuri people want recognition as one of the Precious Native Nations. Our attempts to engage with the Indian government were met with hate and hostilities,” they claimed.

The separatists claimed that there were more than 1,528 cases of the extrajudicial killing which are pending before the Supreme Court of India.

“The state of Manipur is a de jure Government formed in Manipur under the Manipur State Constitution Act 1947. It received independence from the British Raj on August 14, 1947. They claimed the sovereign State of Manipur was excluded from India by the Order in Council by his Majesty on 27 December 1946 and the Indian Government annexed the Manipur State of India by the violation of the Act 1949,” the separatists claimed.

The two leaders said that they would make an appeal to Queen Elizabeth II and after getting an order from the Privy Council they would move the United Nations for recognition.

Manipur, a land of diverse cultures and ethnicities is a multicultural society comprising of Naga, Kuki and Meitei tribes. However, the ‘divide and rule policy’ of the British in relation to administering the hills and plains of Manipur and the introduction of Christianity has widened the cultural gap among these communities.

Over a period of time, separate aspirations and insecurity regarding overlapping claims over natural resources, added with help from neighbouring countries has led some of the groups and insurgents to move towards separatist movements. Till today, some of the Meitei insurgent groups continue to wage an insurgency in the name of self-determination and restoration of lost sovereignty.

The Naga insurgent group – NSCN(IM)’s demand for the formation of Nagalim, including the four districts of Manipur is also seen as a threat to Manipur’s territorial integrity. Meanwhile, the Kukis demand a separate statehood for the Kukis. The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) was formed on November 2, 2010, to seek a ‘Kuki state’, which is to be carved out of their ancestral land in Manipur.
