India’s ‘Hindu only’ village, where religious preaching by Christian evangelists is strictly prohibited

The village of Kesalingayapalli in Andhra Pradesh, located about 35 KM from the Kadapa district in the state has proudly declared itself to be “Hindu only”, by erecting a saffron board at the village’s entrance. This proclamation was made by the villagers on last year’s Ram Navami, or on the Ram Navami prior to that if a TheNewsMinute report is to be believed.

The erected board adorned with “Jai Sri Ram” message on its either side reads that, the village is solely comprised of Hindus, thus any attempt to campaign and preach other religions is strictly prohibited. Violating this would result in strict action being taken against them. The board also warns against religious conversions by claiming that changing one’s religion amounted to “changing one’s own mother”.

The village home to about 250 families, took a decision to make such a proclamation after over the years Christian evangelists came to the village and tried to convert the villagers to their religion by promising money and medicine. As per village elder B Ramana, the villagers were being lured under the pretext of getting their diseases cured if they prayed to Jesus.

Some people were indeed converted to Christianity and as per the village elder, they were taken to a renowned seer, who helped bring them back to Hinduism.

The villagers initially warded the evangelists away, but they kept coming back thus, the “warning board” was erected. As a result of past experiences, Christian evangelists are especially prohibited from entering and preaching in the village.

As per Ramana, if the aforementioned rules were violated, the religious preachers are paraded around the village and are sent away after being repeatedly made to chant “Jai Sri Ram”. They are also encouraged to debate on religious conversions.

The demography of the village too is almost completely Hindu, comprising of Kapurs, Balijas, Scheduled Castes and other classes. Reports claim that no Christians or Muslims live in the village.

The saffron board at the village’s entrance isn’t the only proclamation of the Hindu nature of the village. Saffron flags are also seen adorning various shops inside the village. Kesalingayapalli also boasts of two major temples namely Gangamma Devalayam and Ramalayam. The village also boasts of a Bhajan singing troupe which regularly visits Tirupati and participates in Bhajanamandali competitions.

As a result, they have grown close to an organisation associated with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, which helps restore the village’s temples. The organisation also distributed the Bhagwat Gita among the villagers who now read it in the temple for about 90 minutes.

The villagers have also been encouraged to distribute copies of the Gita in neighbouring villages, and they supposedly have been happy to oblige.

Actress protests in front of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, complains of sexual exploitation

A Telugu actress has protested in front of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. She has alleged that she has not been given a fair chance and women had been sexually exploited by producers and members of the chamber.

She took off her clothes in front of the office and protested semi-clad in front of the chamber. The actress, Sri Reddy alleged that she had not been given a membership in the movie actors association (MAA) in spite of having acted in three movies. The actress was escorted away from the location after refusing to call off her protest.

The actress claimed that many directors and producers had asked for her nude images and videos in exchange for a cinema role. The actress said that she had not got a role even after she had obliged to those requests. These allegations indicate that the Telugu film industry may be unsafe for aspiring actresses.

The Tollywood industry has denied these claims and has filed a complaint against the actress according to reports.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur recently inaugurated its first grid-connected solar power plant. It has a 35 KW capacity and located on the rooftop of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology.

The solar power plant is expected to meet the energy demands of the building and the remaining power will be sold to the State Electricity Board. According to reports, the plant was completed at the total estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh and has a sustainability of 25 years. It is expected to save the Department of Science and Technology an estimated Rs 2.6 lakhs a year.

The Chief Minister stated, “Solar plants not only save energy but also help in environmental conservation. The plant will recover its installation and other expenditure within four to five years. Each one of us should adopt solar power based technologies. We all can contribute towards saving energy and to a great extent meet the ever-increasing demand of the world,”

The CM added that his government will encourage and facilitate the setting up of such plants not only in government buildings but also in private properties.

The Director of the Department of Science and Technology, DC Rana stated that a total of 112 solar panels with 1315 watt capacity each have been installed at the facility and it will result in considerable savings in the future.

The private enterprises, which set up the plant stated that the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board has set up bi-directional meters in the building premises for measurement of total inflow and outflow from the solar plant to the main grid.

The central government has been pushing for major reforms in the energy sector and several steps have been taken to make renewable energy easily and widely available. From earlier Rs 14 to 16 per unit, the tariff for solar power has been dropped to a mere 2,97 Rs per unit.

Chetan Bhagat slams Shekhar Gupta’s ThePrint for lack of ethics

On 6th April, Shekhar Gupta’s digital venture, ThePrint, published an article which talked about how male authors ‘fail’ to create ‘real women characters’. The author of the article, who previously wanted Prime Minister Modi assassinated, mocked Chetan Bhagat for writing the book One Indian Girl in first person narrative from a female perspective.

Bhagat, who often gets backlash for his books, didn’t take it too well. Bhagat lashed out on the author for hiding the fact, thereby either showing that she lied or her incompetence.

The author of the post then condescendingly told Bhagat how he still got a ‘male character to explain feminism to female protagonist’. Bhagat, in turn again called Kaur unethical and biased while continuing to lie.

He even accused her of intentionally hiding his research on the book.

Chinese sperm bank announces that all donors need to be Communists

A sperm donation bank in China’s capital Beijing has made news after setting the condition that interested sperm donors need to be Communists. The state run third hospital of the Peking University set this criteria while mobilising people for a six week sperm donation drive.

As per reports, the hostel in a post on WeChat said that it was a “must” for donors to “love the socialist motherland, support the Communist Party’s leadership, be loyal to the party’s cause and be a decent law abiding citizen, free of political problems”. Reports claimed that this message was deleted from the social media website on Friday.

The drive aimed at men aged 20 to 45 years also needed the donors be be healthy and not show any obvious signs of hair loss, colourblindness and weight loss. In exchange for their services, the sperm donors were promised a sum of Rs 2000 after the vetting process and Rs 56000 after the sperm was finally donated.

The donors in total need to make 10 donations in six months to ensure adequate supply. As per reports, there are in total 4 crore infertile men and women in China, with a demand for sperms increasing in China ever since the “One Child Policy” was relaxed by the Chinese government. This rendered most couples eligible to bear two children.

China supposedly is facing a big shortage when it comes to quality sperm donations, which in 2016 led to a Shanghai sperm bank advertise an allowance to buy iPhone 6S, in exchange of a sperm donation.

Even though the current episode gives out a feeling that China is trying to inculcate “desirable political qualities” since the genesis of a human life. As per doctors, there was no way to test the required communist credentials. The doctor also claimed that no additional tests would be conducted for determining suitable political requirements.

‘The Wire’ journalist shares communally sensitive fake news, retracts after being corrected

Arfa Khanum Sherwani, a journalist know for her hitjob on Sri Sri Ravishankar posted a tweet claiming that BJP MP and minister Babul Supriyo had threatened to skin Muslims alive. Sherwani did not attach any video evidence along with her claim and made a wild allegation. She retracted her statement partially. The archive of the tweet sharing fake news can be found here and the retraction can be found here.

Arfa Khanum Sherwani’s communally sensitive tweet has still not been deleted

One of the replies to the Tweet asked her for evidence.

The claim that Supriyo shouted at the crowd is also inaccurate as Babul Supriyo had clarified to Indian Express that his abuse was directed at miscreants who had shouted slogans at him, Babul Supriyo’s statement to Indian Express is reproduced below.

There were two-three miscreants belonging to the TMC who were trying to create panic. They were shouting slogans against me while I was trying to meet the victims. I stopped my vehicle when I saw two elderly women weeping. They wanted to meet me and were talking about police inaction in the area… The miscreants pushed away from the women… The police should have driven away from the miscreants but targeted me instead. If I said ‘chamra guthiye debo (will skin alive)’, it was out of pure anger targeted at those miscreants.

As the local MP, it is my responsibility to stand by the people who are in trouble, but the police, without any reason, stopped me from meeting them. Since morning, I have been trying to call up senior police officers and district officials, but they don’t have time to meet me. The Rapid Action Force surrounded me as if I am a criminal. When people want to share their plight with me, how can you stop me? As a minister, if the police tell me not to enter an area where prohibitory orders are in force, I will not break the law. Law and order is a state subject. I respect that, but this is not acceptable.

Babul Supriyo was booked for violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 and assaulting an officer.

In the full video of the incident, it can be seen that seconds before Supriyo uttered his controversial remarks the police had said – “Sir even I can raise my hand. Even I can hit you” (2:29 onwards)

Arfa Khanum Sherwani has still not deleted her communally sensitive tweet till the time this article was published. Instead, she is defending her fake news tweet having communally sensitive content by comparing herself to Babul Supriyo.

Recently, Mahesh Hegde of Postcard news had been arrested for posting a tweet with fake news that had communally sensitive content. It remains to be seen if any action will be taken against The Wire journalist.

After remarks on Modi’s Karnataka rally, case registered against Jignesh Mevani for ‘fomenting violence’

A case has been registered against divisive caste activist MLA from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani, for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging youth to disrupt his April 15 meeting by throwing chairs in the air at an event in Chitradurga, about 200 km from Bengaluru.

He has been quoted as saying, “The role of youth is important today. When Modi Ji arrives at Bengaluru on April 15 to address a public gathering you mingle with the crowd, throw the chairs in the air and disturb his meeting,” before going on to add, “You ask him what happened to the promise of two crore jobs every year. If he fails to give an answer, then tell him to go sleep in Himalaya or ring the Rama Temple bells.”

Jignesh Mevani has been spotted engaging in controversial behaviour in the past. He had used extremely derogatory words for the Prime Minister when he said on a news channel that Narendra Modi should “go to the Himalayas and melt his bones” which colloquially means “go and die”. Republic TV had also aired a video of the MLA where he could be seen inciting people to commit violence 12 hours before the Bhima-Koregaon violence ensued. On another occasion, he was caught abusing the Police.

the case was registered under sections 153, 188, 117 and 34 of the IPC.

Another BSP leader arrested in UP for inciting violence during recent Dalit protests

The Uttar Pradesh police arrested Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Muzaffarnagar district President on charges of inciting violence during the Bharat Bandh called by Dalit groups on Monday (2nd April). The leader named Kamal Gautam was arrested on Friday night and has seen over a dozen cases getting registered against him by the police.

As per Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anant Dev, Gautam provided liquor for thousands of party workers who after getting drunk were incited to turn violent and damage properties. They as a result forcefully shut shops and created a ruckus. He has also been charged with violating section 144.

Following his arrest, Gautam was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate following which he has been sent to judicial custody till 20th April. Besides Gautam, the police have arrested more than 12 people for the agitation in Muzaffarnagar. In total, an excess of 40 cases has been registered against various protesters with about 85 getting arrested for the same.

This arrest comes a few days after former BSP MLA Yogesh Verma was arrested by the police from Meerut, for allegedly being the main conspirator of the violence in the city, where more than 200 violent protesters attacked the district collectorate and vandalised office buildings. Police had to initiate lathi charge to curb the violence.

In light of the arrest of two BSP leaders, questions might be raised over the inability of BSP supremo Mayawati to rein in her party leaders. It might also lead to the speculation of the party possibly playing a proactive role in the violent protests, especially considering that the party extended support to the Bharat Bandh protesters.

During the nationwide Bharat Bandh, about nine people died in the mass violence perpetrated to protest against the Supreme Court’s directives to prevent the misuse of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

NIA chargesheet indicts PFI, larger conspiracy behind murder of Hindu Munnani activist murder : TimesNow

Times Now has claimed that it has accessed the NIA charge sheet filed in the murder of the Hindu Munnani murder case. According to the charge sheet, the NIA has established a larger conspiracy behind the murder of Hindu Munnani spokesperson C Sasikumar.

The charge sheet has apparently established the link between four of the murder accused by the radical Islamic organization PFI. The murder which rocked Coimbatore in 2016 was handed over to the NIA for investigation last year. Sasikumar was allegedly murdered by a 4-member gang Subramaniampalayam near Thudiyalur on the 22nd of September, 2016.

The PFI has been in hot water recently with states even putting a ban on the organization. India Today had even exposed the organization for engaging in the brainwashing and conversion of Hindu women through its network of illegal financing. In the Hadiya case, the outfit claims to have spent Rs. 1 crore.

With further emerging evidence of PFI’s link to organized criminal activities, the organization may well be staring down the throat of a nationwide ban.

Congress West Bengal unit President threatens to complain to Rahul Gandhi against Abhishek Singhvi

The West Bengal Unit President of the Congress party, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, has threatened to complain to Rahul Gandhi against Abhishek Manu Singhvi for going against the interests of the party in the state.

Earlier, Abhishek Manu Singhvi had secured his nomination to the Rajya Sabha with the support from MLAs of the Trinamool Congress. And after Mamata Banerjee met with Sonia Gandhi, it appears that there isCongre some understanding between the two parties ahead of the 2019 General Elections.  Under such circumstances, complaints by leaders from the state unit of the party are likely to go unheard.

West Bengal has witnessed a spate of violence as opposition parties accused the TMC of using violence to prevent their candidates from filing their nomination papers. Numerous candidates and workers from the opposition parties have been allegedly attacked by the cadres of Trinamool Congress.

The Panchayat Elections are due to be held in three phases on the 1st, 3rd and the 5th of May.
