‘Scroll’ defends targeted violence against Hindus in Bangladesh: From ‘inevitable aftermath of uprising’ to blaming ‘Hindutva’ and ‘they were Awami supporters’

Hindus are being butchered in Bangladesh after the fall of Sheikh Hasina. In a minimum of 27 districts, Hindu houses, and businesses are being specifically targeted, there are reports of Hindu girls missing, Temples being attacked and men being lynched and hung in the streets for all to see. After the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, the now-former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the Jamaat-e-Islami gangs are wreaking havoc in Bangladesh.

There are several horrifying tales of brutality against Hindus in Bangladesh which has come to the fore. The carnage started on the 5th of August, just as Sheikh Hasina fled to India. In Sherpur, the house of the president of the Sribardi Upazila Youth Unity Council was attacked, vandalised and looted.

In Khulna, the houses of Shyamal Kumar Das and Swajan Kumar Das in Highgate village of Rupsa Thana area, houses of Biman Bihari Amit, president of the Khulna District Unity Council and Animesh Sarkar Rinku, president of the Youth Unity Council in Tootpara of Khulna city, house of Jayanta Gain in Amtali Banisanta, Dacope, and houses of the minority community in Darpara, Koyra were attacked, vandalised and looted.

In Feni, the Durga Temple was attacked. In Dinajpur, the Fulthala cremation ground was forcefully occupied. Five temples including Kali Mandir in Parbatipur were vandalised. Minority community houses were attacked and looted in Setabganj Bochakganj and Dhalla village of Chirirbandar Thana area.

In Patuakhali, the Radha Govinda Temple in Kuakata was attacked and vandalised. The house of Ananta Mukherjee was attacked, vandalised, and looted. Minority homes in wards 2 and 3 of the Sadar, Panchagarh, were attacked, vandalised, and looted.

There are other visuals of Hindu women crying and pleading, hoping someone would save them. In this visual, for example, a woman wails about Hindu women being gang raped by the Muslim mobs.

In other visuals, a Hindu ASI Santosh Saha was lynched by a Muslim mob and then hung upside down in the middle of the road. There was an X marked on his chest.

This is, of course, only the tip of the iceberg. OpIndia has covered over 70 incidents of such violence against Hindus and the list only keeps growing. Speaking to OpIndia, local Hindus said that as soon as Sheikh Hasina fled, Jamaat-e-Islami started collating lists of Hindu businesses, houses and establishments to then systematically target them. They also told us that Jamaat men were roaming the streets with weapons, restricting Hindus from fleeing to safer places. Some of the Hindus told us that barring a few, most hospitals were refusing to treat Hindus too – those who had been injured in the violence.

The atrocities being committed by Muslim mobs in Bangladesh have been acknowledged and reported by the Bangladeshi media as well. However, for a large section of the Indian media, atrocities against Hindus must be rationalised, contextualised and justified.

The Scroll, a Left propaganda publication, published a shameless justification of the targeted and religiously motivated hate crimes against Bangladeshi Hindus on the 8th of August 2024.

In an article headlined “Bangladesh: Why there must be caution in understanding the violence against Hindus”, Scroll provides three arguments, essentially trying to whitewash the religious targeting of Hindus.

Written by Niladri Chatterjee, Muhammad Asiful Basar and Arild Engelsen Ruud (yes, it took them three people to write this wad of nonsense), the Scroll article starts by rationalising the violence by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami mobs. “But even after successfully overthrowing the regime, the bottled-up anger against the dictatorial Awami League government continues to spill out in violent episodes. This may not come as a complete surprise, since violence of some kind is the inevitable aftermath of any uprising, Bangladesh is no exception”, the article says.

“Violence of some kind is an inevitable aftermath of any uprising”, the article says, offering a justification for the rampant violence by Jihadi elements. At the very outset, Scroll signals that according to their ‘analysis’ (which took three people), Sheikh Hasina was a “dictator” and therefore, the violent coup against a democratically elected leader was an “uprising”. The ensuing violence was “expected” because it is the aftermath of such an “uprising”.

After justifying the violence by Jihadis, Scroll then, slyly, chooses to blame the Hindus of India, who are trying to shine a light on the atrocities being committed in Bangladesh.

Excerpt from Scroll article

The purpose of casting aspersions is very simple – They want people to believe that all the information being posted by Hindus in India is merely misinformation and propaganda – and that things are not as bad in Bangladesh after all. The persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, according to Scroll, is a mere figment of the “Hindutva imagination”.

After blaming “Hindutva” for the violence committed by Jihadi mobs, they proceed to paint a benevolent picture of the Bangladeshi Muslims – “They are not that bad as the Hindus want you to believe”, they insinuate.

Excerpt of Scroll article

The usual trope of how Muslims were the ones protecting temples makes a comeback in the Scroll article. Every time there is a religiously motivated attack against Hindus, the Left media seems to find 5 Muslims who form a “human chain” to protect temples. It is almost as if the media develops a selective vision. They use this as an example of brotherhood without really telling their readers what it is that the 5 Muslims were protecting the temple from. They work terribly hard to paint the 5 as the rule and 50,000 as the exception.

After watering down the attacks by blaming the “Hindutva people” and then painting the Muslims going on a rampage as the good samaritans, Scroll proceeds to further contextualise the sectarian violence against Hindus by offering a few explanations.

Here are the three reports Scroll gives, justifying attacks against Hindus

  1. “There are no instances of revolutions without spillovers”.
  2. Yes, Hindus are being attacked – but please remember that they are Awami League supporters.
  3. It’s just loot. They want the land

The first “reason” that Scroll provides to diminish the suffering of Hindus, is simply a dismissal of it as par for the course. The Scroll writes:

Excerpt from Scroll article

Scroll in their first explanation essentially says that when there are uprisings and revolutions, some violence is expected and therefore, insinuates that this religiously motivated genocide against the Hindus in Bangladesh is simply par for the course.

The second reason they provide is parroting the Jamaat-e-Islami line.

Excerpt from Scroll article

Scroll justifies the attack against Hindus by saying that the Muslims are only targeting Hindus because they are viewed as Awami League supporters. Giving a ‘political context’ to the massacre of Hindus is not new. It is a tried and tested modus operandi applied by the Left media, which acts like the ideological backbone of Jihadis.

Rajdeep had also written a moving piece when journalist Shujaat Bukhari was brutally murdered. What is interesting, is that when Hindu Activist Prashant Poojari was murdered, Rajdeep had written a piece trying to whitewash the crime and assert that his murder had a “political context”.

On October 9, 2015, a Bajrang Dal activist, Prashant Poojary was brutally hacked to death for trying to stop illegal cow slaughter by PFI terrorists. Poojary was attacked by six bike-borne men in broad daylight in a marketplace. He died the same day of his injuries.

Interestingly, that article as well was published on The Scroll.

2015 article on Scroll

Prashant Poojari was murdered specifically because he was a Hindu activist, by a terrorist group which has, officially, stated that it wanted to commit the genocide of Hindus and establish an Islamic state in India. That murder was brushed away as a “political murder” and not one driven by religious hate. The Muslim man who was murdered for the theft of a cow was the real victim of sectarian violence – not the Hindu who was murdered by an Islamic terror organisation specifically for his Hindu identity.

The Scroll has deployed the same tactic to justify the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Their targeting, according to Scroll, is merely political in nature and not driven by religious hate because they were viewed as Awami League supporters. To further justify this, they have already declared Sheikh Hasina as a dictator. Essentially, Scroll is saying that Hindus are being massacred by Muslims because it was the Hindus who are viewed as the supporters of a “dictator” and therefore, there is no reason to really outage about their genocide. To put things into context – while Sheikh Hasina was only marginally better for Hindus – she was explicitly against the Jihadi forces like Jamaat-e-Islami – who are now committing a genocide of Hindus. As is the usual trope of the Left – anyone opposing Jihadis must be a dictator and the massacre of their supporters is simply par for the course.

After claiming that Hindus have come under attack because violence is a part of ‘revolution’ and that the Hindus were supporting a “dictator”, the third reason Scroll provides to rationalise the violence against Hindus is to claim that the Jihadis going on a rampage against Hindus is merely to loot.

Excerpt from Scroll article

In their desperation to downplay the genocide of Hindus by Jihadis, Scroll, in their third reason, say that the attacks are “probably” just incidents of loot. They say that they can’t be sure of the reasons behind individual incidents of violence, but in all probability, the Jihadis are just poor people trying to loot the Hindus.

There are tens of testimonies of Hindus which detail the religiously motivated nature of the violence. Further, it is not like Hindus are being attacked for their religious identity for the first time. In 2021, a rumour of the Quran being desecrated led to Muslim mobs running rampage against Hindus. Almost on a daily basis, Hindus are raped, converted and beheaded in Islamic nations like Bangladesh and Pakistan. But that is simply not proof enough. The pleas of Hindus are not enough. Their testimonies are not enough. Video and pictorial evidence is not good enough. Every incident of violence against Hindus is going to be downplayed and whitewashed by the likes of Scroll – the ideological backbones of Jihadis – the Left rags that give them covering fire while they commit a genocide.

‘Malicious attempt by certain sections of people to incite communal violence’: Manipur Govt to probe source of doctored audio clip of CM Biren Singh

0

On Tuesday, August 7, the Manipur Government alerted the public regarding an audio recording circulating on social media falsely claiming to be that of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The state government said in a statement that the doctored audio clip is a malicious attempt by certain sections of people to incite communal violence to derail the peace process that has been initiated at multiple levels.

Notably, in the doctored audio clip that emerged, a voice claiming to be that of Manipur CM Biren Singh is heard saying that he has initiated the ethnic cleansing against the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur. After the audio clip went viral, the Manipur Govt initiated a probe and warned legal action against all individuals/organisations involved in this conspiracy.

“Our social media analysis indicates that a coordinated and targeted campaign is underway with numerous X (formerly Twitter) accounts sharing the audio clip with similar caption,” the statement said.

The Manipur Police are investigating the matter to trace the origins of this defamatory campaign. Legal action will be taken against all individuals and organizations involved in this conspiracy, the statement read.

The government urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing unverified information.

“The restoration of peace and harmony among our communities is of utmost importance at this juncture more than ever. The state government would not tolerate any action that threatens to disrupt the peace process,” the statement said.

Retired US Diplomat calls for return of Islamist BNP’s Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh: How support for 2004 terror attack convict fuel speculations of deep state coup further

On 7th August, Jon Danilowicz, former deputy chief of the US Mission to Bangladesh between 2012 and 2014, rooted for the return of the acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Bangladesh should allow Tarique Rahman to return home, deal with his legal issues, see his mother, and engage in political activity if he so chooses. His future role (if any) should be determined by his party and the voters when elections are held. No more, no less.” To monkey-balance his stance, he also called for the return of Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh.

Jon’s comments came amid speculation of regime change operation by the US deep state

It is pertinent to note that the coup in Bangladesh is being widely speculated to be a regime change operation by the US deep state. The protests in Bangladesh, violence and departure of Sheikh Hasina from the country have raised questions if there was a US deep state behind the coup. It has to be noted that despite the quota, against which the protests were happening, which was abolished by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the protests never faded away. They only intensified leading Hasina to order the use of force against the protesters and several hundred protesters were killed in the process. After the departure of Hasina and the Army took over the country, the violence intensified and Hindus became prime targets of the violent Islamist mobs across Bangladesh.

The role of foreign forces in toppling Hasina’s government has become a topic of discussion as well as concern. One of the organisations whose name has popped up repeatedly is the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The main objective of USAID is clearly, to further US interests abroad and regime change has been one of the interests of the US. USAID has been accused of being directly involved in regime change in Nicaragua and Venezuela.

BRAC has received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID that tuned into millions. For example, BRAC received USD 1.5 million from the Gates Foundation to build preparedness and emergency response capacity. Furthermore, BRAC has teamed up with USAID in projects like the Bangladesh America Maitree Project, which aims to enhance the capacity of local NGOs through funding and training.

Not to forget, there are allegations that USAID is in front of the CIA, the foreign intelligence organisation of the US government. Furthermore, just before the recent General Elections in Bangladesh, Washington sanctioned members of Sheikh Hasina’s party and promoted a government involving BNP and Jamaat. It aligned with broader discussions about US foreign policy strategies aimed at fostering governments favourable to its interests.

In June this year, Sheikh Hasina made a shocking claim that a plot is being hatched to carve out “a Christian state like East Timor,” from parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar and that she will not let it happen. She claimed that a “white man” who visited with her before the Bangladesh elections in January of this year assured her that there would be “no problems” if she permitted them to establish an airbase on Bangladeshi soil.

Last year, the US also extended support to the Islamist Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its Jihadist ally Jamaat-e-Islami during its protests against the PM Hasina-led government. The US and other Western countries expected the Awami League government to step down and hand over power to a caretaker regime, and release all jailed BNP and Jamaat leaders to ensure ‘free and fair’ elections. However, India and China, despite their disputes, backed Sheikh Hasina in dealing with US pressure resulting in her return to power for the fifth time.

Since there have been reports of the United States attempting to meddle in the elections in Bangladesh by imposing sanctions on Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and some officials alongside placing visa restrictions on Bangladeshi officials, it is being speculated that the airbase offer was made by the US.

In November 2023, OpIndia reported that there were clear signs of foreign interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs. With just two months away from the elections, the United States government, its agencies and the embedded media were called out for orchestrating a ‘regime change operation’ in Bangladesh.

Who is Tarique Rahman?

Born on 20th November 1967 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman is the son of Begum Khaleda Zia, the 10th Prime Minister and first female PM of Bangladesh and Ziaur Rahman, 7th President of Bangladesh. His mother Khaleda Zia was a political prisoner during Hasina’s tenure and was recently released from prison after the Bangladeshi Army took over the country.

Rahman started his political career as a primary member of the BNP in 1988. He played a vital role in campaigning for his mother during the national elections in 1991. During 1996-2001, when Awami League was in power, Rahman actively launched movements against the government in the guise of justice for the marginalised.

Rahman is currently living in the United Kingdom under forced exile. Notable, he is the prime convict and mastermind of the 21st August 2004 terrorist grenade attack on Awami League’s political rally. Military-grade Arges grenade was used in the attack to target the entire top leadership of Awami League including Hasina. 24 leaders and workers including Ivy Rahman, President of Women Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman were killed in the attack. Several hundred attendees of the rally were injured and many of them became permanently handicapped. On 10th October 2018, Rahman was sentenced to life in prison for the grenade attack.

On 11th September 2008, Rahman fled to London, United Kingdom claiming he needed medical treatment. It was said that he gave a written bond that he would not indulge in politics in the future after which he was allowed to go to London. Khalida Zia claimed that her son would actively participate in politics once he returned to Bangladesh. She also claimed that the Bangladeshi government was trying to harass her son to delay his return to the country.

In December 2009, he became senior vice chairman of BNP. There have been reports that while living in London, he was in touch with the US government to discuss “bilateral issues”. One such meeting took place in 2013.

Meanwhile, 12 cases were filed against him and his associate Giasuddin Al Mamun by the Anti-Corruption Commission. Mamun is facing 20 years in prison.

Tarique Rahman actions against India

The ‘India Out’ campaign of Maldives was a success for Mohamed Muizzu as it helped his party gain power in the country. The anti-India sentiment travelled from Maldives to Bangladesh, particularly within the opposition party BNP. The party, led by Rahman, called for a boycott of Indian products. The idea was to adopt a new political manoeuvre to woo voters in favour of BNP in general elections.

Rahman, while living in London, orchestrated the campaign and it ran mainly on social media platforms. The hashtag #IndiaOut was a hit among Bangladeshi users propagating the message of boycotting the products originating from India. BNP argued that India was meddling with Bangladesh’s internal affairs. It has to be noted that BNP is closer to Pakistan than India. The closeness between the BNP and the hostile neighbour has led to radicalisation and anti-India sentiments within the party.

With a former US Diplomat to Bangladesh calling for the return of a terror convict and claiming that he should be allowed to return to active politics only adds fuel to the speculations that the Bangladesh regime change was a coup, aided by the US Deep State.

‘They tied her mouth and raped her, they wanted to slit her throat, we gave our ornaments to save her’: Hindu women narrate ordeal, confirm rape of Hindu women in Bangladesh

With Islamists going door to door baying for the blood of Hindus, the anti-government protests in Bangladesh have escalated into full-fledged anti-Hindu violence. Attacks and hostility are being directed specifically towards Hindu homes and places of worship. Following the violent removal of Sheikh Hasina from office, there have been numerous instances of looting, vandalism, and arson of Hindu homes that have come to light. Hindus have been lynched and the unabated violence has engulfed several Hindu Temples in the country.

Hindu temples have been targeted in Natore, Dhamrai in Dhaka, Kalapara in Patuakhali, Shariatpur, and Faridpur, as well as houses in Jessore, Noakhali, Meherpur, Chandpur, and Khulna. Dinajpur saw the vandalisation of 40 Hindu shops.

Now, several Hindu women in Bangladesh have come forward to share their tales of horror at the hands of the rampaging Islamist mob.

In a video shared by Hindu Voice on August 8, several Hindu women living in different areas of the Pirojpur district in Bangladesh can be heard narrating their plight. One Hindu woman victim, who fell prey to the savagery, is heard saying, “They came with swords and sharp weapons. They took everything. To save our daughters, we give them everything we had.”

Another Hindu woman lamented, “At night, they came. They vandalised our homes and looted everything. We were hiding. They grabbed my brother-in-law’s wife and took her to another room. They raped her. Later, we recovered her; her face was tied with clothes. They wanted to cut her throat. To save her, we gave them all the gold ornaments.”

“We were sleeping. At night, they came. They were armed. They warned us saying, ‘Fifty of us have surrounded your house, there is no way you can escape.’ They looted everything. They grabbed me and took me to bed. They threatened me with murder. I pleaded with them to either spare me or kill me. They kept threatening me not to cry. They asked me to give away whatever valuables we had. I gave them all my ornaments, so they left me,” said another woman.

Attack on Hindus continues unabated in Bangladesh

Earlier, OpIndia spoke to a few Bangladeshi Hindus who told us that the dire situation is only getting worse for Hindus. Speaking to OpIndia, the Hindus in Bangladesh who spoke to OpIndia said that Jamaat-e-Islami members have been making a list of Hindu businesses and Hindu houses since the fall of Sheikh Hasina.

The Hindus, on the condition of anonymity due to security concerns also said that many are unable to move to safer locations because the Jamaat-e-Islami groups and other Islamists are roaming the streets with guns, making it impossible for them to move to safer locations.

On 5th August, it came to light that Jihadis attacked Hindus’ houses, shops and temples in Bangladesh in the guise of protests against the Sheikh Hasina government. Despite the resignation by Hasina from the Prime Minister’s post, the protests continued and so did the attack on Hindus. Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar has also expressed concerns over attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

Earlier, OpIndia reported about the list of several attacks released by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and attacks reported by The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi newspaper. Several videos and photos of attacks on Hindus surfaced on social media.

Taylor Swift concerts canceled in Vienna after ISIS terror plot uncovered, two Islamists arrested by Austrian police

Pop sensation Taylor Swift’s three concerts in Vienna, Austria this week were canceled after the government confirmed a planned ISIS attack on the stadium. The Austrian authorities have warned that there could be other threats to Taylor Swift.

In an Instagram post, Barracuda, Taylor Swift’s Austrian show promoter informed that her sold-out gigs in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday have been canceled due to a terror threat.

“With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” Barracuda said.

On Wednesday (7th August), two Islamists suspected of being involved in the thwarted ISIS attack were arrested by Austrian police. Franz Ruf, the director general for public security, stated that one of the two suspects in the case is an Austrian youth who declared allegiance to the Islamic state. Reportedly, the accused duo was radicalised online.

Police have launched an investigation into the case, conducting a search of one of the suspects’ homes in Ternitz, Lower Austria, and analyzing things found there. A bomb squad found materials and substances that could be used to build explosives and evacuated the home.

“During our investigations, we identified preparatory actions and noted that the 19-year-old suspect had a particular focus on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna. A clear threat has been averted,” Ruf said.

The officials said that while it is improbable that he would have been able to make a bomb before the concerts this week, however, they decided to arrest the suspects in case they may have found another way to attack Swift’s concerts.

This is not the first time Islamic terrorists have targeted a pop concert. Back in 2017, jihadist Salman Abedi killed 22 people and injured 200 as he exploded a homemade bomb at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England.

‘Won’t let you go alive today’: Hindu youth hacked to death by his Muslim wife’s kin over interfaith marriage in Dwarka, 7 including one minor arrested

A 24-year-old Hindu youth was hacked to death by his Muslim wife’s family members and others over their interfaith marriage in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat, police said on Monday, August 5.

The incident occurred on Saturday (August 3) in Shedhakhai village. The deceased identified as Yagnik Dudhrejiya was mercilessly attacked with axes, iron rods and sticks by the accused, all related to the Muslim wife of the deceased, identified as Adam Musa Detha (42), Hothi alias Dado Kasam Detha (27), Juma Musa Detha (40), Osman Musa Detha (35), Sajid Isha Detha (26), and Salim Hussain Detha (32) and a minor.

Dhudhrejiya was rushed to a government hospital in Jamnagar city, where he died late in the evening, the police said.

“The victim, who belonged to the Sadhu caste, had married a Muslim woman. The accused, all Muslims, were involved in the murder due to the interfaith marriage,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Nitesh Pandey was quoted by HT as saying.

In what transpired, the Hindu youth, a native of Shedhakhai village and Ramza, a woman from a Muslim family in the same village fell in love with each other. They eloped and married each other one and a half years ago. However, the woman’s family members disapproved of her marriage to a man from another community. The couple, nevertheless, persisted and were living elsewhere. The couple welcomed a baby girl about a month and a half ago. However, the threats from the woman’s family persisted.

Around 45 days ago the duo returned to their native village, Shedhakhai. On Saturday (August 3) evening, Dudhrejia left his house with his friend Hardeep Singh Vajubha when his wife’s relatives intercepted them. Before the Hindu youth could realise, the Muslim girl’s kin surrounded him and launched a vicious attack on him.

“You married out a girl without our approval, we won’t let you go alive today,” shouted the Muslim girl’s relatives before mercilessly attacking the Hindu youth with axes, iron rods, sticks and knives.

The Hindu youth sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital. There, he was referred to a government hospital in Jamnagar, where doctors declared him dead.

Based on a complaint by the victim’s mother, a case was registered at Bhanvad police station against the accused. They were booked under sections 103(2) (murder committed by a group of five or more persons on the grounds of race, caste, community or sex), 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 189(4) (unlawful assembly of members armed with deadly weapons), 191(2) (rioting), 191(3) (rioting with deadly weapons) and 190 (common intent of members of an unlawful assembly in committing a crime).

“We have arrested six men. They include the victim’s brother-in-law and the woman’s uncles. One juvenile has also been detained and he would be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board,” K K Maru, Sub Inspector of the Bhanvad police station was quoted as saying.

The SI added that police personnel were deployed in the Shedhakhai village after the incident. “However, there has been no further violence in the village, and the situation is under control,” said Maru.

Maharashtra government to build International football stadium at Aamkhas maidan which was occupied by Waqf Board in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar

On Wednesday (7th August), the Maharashtra government announced a major decision that it would build an International standard football stadium in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on a ground that was occupied by the Waqf board. Official information to this effect was made public on Wednesday. As per reports, preparations are underway to convert this ground which was occupied by the Waqf Board into an international football stadium.

According to reports, the name of this ground is Amkhas Maidan and it is adjacent to Sambhaji city. For a long time, the Waqf Board had been staking its claim on this ground. But on Wednesday the Maharashtra government announced its decision to build an International standard football stadium. The decision was announced after the Ministers of the Maharashtra government held a meeting with the officials of the government.

The meeting was presided over by Minorities Development and Aukaf Minister Abdul Sattar. Maharashtra Sports Minister Sanjay Bansode was also present in the meeting. During the meeting, Abdul Sattar informed the administrative officials about his decision. He also directed the District Magistrate of Sambhaji Nagar to send the proposal to build an international football stadium at the Aamkhas Maidan to the Sports Department as soon as possible.

A district official publicly informed about his instructions on Wednesday. According to Abdul Sattar, this effort will help in taking the sports talent of Maharashtra to the national and global level. Sports Minister Sanjay Bansode also lauded this decision. He has assured that they will soon start work for the Stadium.

Previously, the Aamkhas Maidan was used to organise large gatherings. In 2018, Dawat-e-Islami had organised a large gathering on this ground and Maulvis and Maulanas from all over the country addressed a large crowd of lakhs of Muslims. AIMIM chief and MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, has also been holding his political rallies on this ground.

The announcement by the Maharashtra government comes on a day when the national media widely reported that the PM Modi-led Union government could table the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Parliament, this week.

As per reports, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill seeks to overhaul the legislations governing the functioning of Waqf boards. The proposed bill renames the Waqf Act (1995) as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995. The draft wants to establish separate boards of Auqaf for Bohras and Aghakhanis. It also proposes broad-based representation for Shias, Sunnis, Bohras, Agakhanis and other backward classes among Muslim communities as well as including a few non-Muslims.

Athletes should compete in their natural weight, wrestlers losing too much weight and it’s not good: United World Wrestling president denies exception for Vinesh Phogat, says ‘rules are rules’

United World Wrestling (UWW) President Nenad Lalovic today ruled out any exception for wrestler Vinesh Phogat who was disqualified from the Paris Olympics just before her final match for being overweight by just 100 grams. He said that although the disappointment is understandable, the rules are rules and there is no scope for exception.

“We have to respect the rules. I’m so sad what happened to her. She was overweight, even though by a small margin but rules are rules. The weigh-in is public and all the athletes are there. It’s impossible to let someone to compete who doesn’t make the weight,” Lalovic said while talking to Sportstar.

On the question of whether Vinesh could be awarded the silver medal because she passed the weight test on the first day of the competition, the UWW chief replied in negative. He said,  “It is impossible because the brackets are changing. Everything is changing. And anyway, the rules are rules. Everybody who goes to these competitions knows they have a second weigh-in the next day.”

When asked whether the 100 gram overweight could have been ignored as it is a very small margin, Lalovic said that they have to be strict regarding the rules. “We should be more strict on that because we have a problem that you are living in this moment,” he said, adding, “If you allow this 100 grams, then you would be allowed for 200 grams. There is no end.”

Notably, the UWW added that wrestlers should compete in their natural weight category, and not in lower weight categories by lowering their weights. He said that the wrestlers are losing too much weight due to this which is not good.

“We should be more strict on that because we have a problem that you are living in this moment. The wrestlers are losing too much weight and it’s not good for their health. Many have seen their interest at the moment but they don’t see what happens in 20-30 years. We want athletes to compete in their natural weight. That’s the idea. This is when they make the best performances. Unfortunately, it’s a second case here,” said Nenad Lalovic.

He also mentioned that an Italian wrestler was also disqualified for being overweight earlier during the ongoing Olympics. Weight of Emanuela Liuzzi was found to be above 50 kg before her debut match in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling category. Similarly, Algeria’s Messaoud Redouane was disqualified in Judo for being overweight.

It is notable that 50 kg is not the natural weight category of Vinesh Phogat, as she used to contest in the 53 kg category. But as she was out off the mat for more than one-and-a-half years due to injuries and the protests against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Antim Panghal secured an Olympic quota for India in the 53kg category.

She then decided to switch to the lighter weight – 50 kg category – to ensure her place in the Olympics. While it is not allowed, she demanded to compete in the both weight categories at the wrestling trials, and she was allowed. However, while she won -6 in the 50 kg weight category, she lost in the 53 kg category. Therefore, she participated in the Olympics in the 50 kg category, and was forced to maintain her weight below 50 kg, which was a challenge.

While she managed to achieve that weight goal ahead of her first match, she could not repeat that before the gold medal bout.

A shocking case of sexual exploitation of two minor girls has come to light from the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. A Maulvi who has been identified as Mulla Haroon is accused of raping a minor girl and sexually assaulting her younger sister, who is also a minor. The victims are real sisters and they used to go to the accused Maulvi for religious education classes. It is also alleged that he threatened the minor sisters that if they told anything about his heinous crime to anyone, he would kill them. Subsequently, on Tuesday (6th August 2024), the Meerut Police arrested the accused Maulvi Mulla Haroon.

According to reports, a woman lodged a complaint in this matter at the Lisari Gate police station in Meerut on 31st July. In the complaint, she stated that her two minor daughters were taking religious education classes from Maulvi Mulla Haroon, who lives in Umar Garden. It added that the 55-year-old Mulla Haroon had an evil eye on both the minor sisters. On 30th July, when they went for the classes, the accused Maulvi raped her elder daughter.

After committing the heinous crime, Maulvi Haroon also threatened the victim that if she told anything about it to anyone, he would kill her. Scared of his threats, the 11-year-old victim did not tell anyone about it. However, when her mother inquired the reason why she was upset, she told everything to her mother. Later, the woman also asked her younger daughter about the Maulvi’s behaviour, she said that the Maulvi was also harassing her.

When the family came to learn about the Maulvi’s heinous activities, they lodged a complaint with the police. Based on their complaint, Police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation to probe the allegations. The accused Maulvi has been booked under serious charges including under POCSO Act.

However, when a complaint was filed against him, the accused Maulvi absconded and the Police launched a search operation to nab him. The Police finally arrested Maulvi Mullah Haroon on 6th August. He has been sent to jail.
