Kerala Church creates ‘Gabriel Sena’, enlists ex-military persons for ‘crowd control’

0

A church in Kerala has formed a unit of retired military and paramilitary men and has named it ‘Gabriel Sena’. As per a report in The Indian Express, the Catholic Church in Thalassaery, under the Archidiocese of Thalassery in Kannur has launched the ‘Gabriel Sena’ last month and is going to hold its first-ever meeting in Kannur districts Taliparamba on November 15.

Gabriel is the name of a Biblical angel who is considered God’s messenger and one of the seven guardian angels. The group ‘Gabriel Sena’ has reportedly been set up to help the Church in ‘crowd control’.

Matthew Ashariparambil, the director of Gabriel Sena, has stated that the retired military and paramilitary men should become “guardians of faith and warriors of ideals”. He added further that their services would be used mostly for crowd control.

“More than a group, the Sena will be a fellowship of ex-uniformed personnel. We are expecting around 150 people to turn up for our first meeting on November 15.  The Sena’s members will be deployed for the first time during a farmers rally to be organised by the church in Kannur in December”, added Ashariparambil.

He also insisted that the group has no communal agenda and any Catholic is free to join it. As per the report, the Catholic Church in Kerala has been forming groups based on professional background. It already has groups of Catholic teachers, doctors, and non-resident Keralites.

George Joseph, the secretary of Joint Christian Council, however, called it an alarming trend. He mentioned the current fights between different factions of Christian Churches over property possessions and expressed his fears that such ‘Sena’ might be used to intimidate the faithful who oppose the clergy.

It is notable here that Churches in Kerala have been facing massive public criticism over infights, sex scandals and land scams. Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Malankara Orthodox Church was accused of rape by a nun in the Kuravilangad convent the last year, exposing the dirty underbelly of political power-play, victim shaming, abuse, and oppression prevalent inside the institutions.

The Orthodox and the Jacobite factions of the Syrian Malankara Church have also been involved in a long and nasty fight over property ownership and Churches. The fight has even resulted in many believers being denied burial space for days on end, leading to public and media criticism.

Recently, a group of Catholics belonging to the Archidiocese of Ernakulam had marched to the Cardinal House in Kochi demanding the resignation of Cardinal George Alencherry, who has been accused of land scam.

Communists addicted to Twitter? Full time protestor Kavita Krishnan found using Twitter after announcing boycott

Two years after Bollywood actor and film critic Kamaal R Khan (KRK) took the legal route to get his Twitter account restored after suspension, another Indian, senior Supreme Court lawyer Sanjay Hegde had recently announced he would even knock the doors of international court to get his Twitter account restored.

Hegde had claimed that his account was suspended for a tweet he had posted in 2017. His account has been suspended a few times since October this year. Earlier, he claimed his account was suspended for having the Nazi resistance image as his header image. His account was restored after the image was deleted. Next day, as per him, his account was suspended for a 2017 tweet where he had shared a Gorakh Pandey poem titled ‘Hang Him’.

After his account suspension, many twitterati decided to boycott Twitter to show solidarity with Hegde. However, such a ‘protest’ was a symbolic one as it was only a 24 hour protest. Championing the ‘boycott’ was communist leader Kavita Krishnan, who took time out of her regular protests to participate in this new protest. She said that she will boycott Twitter for 24 hours starting noon on 6th November.

In her tweet, she had said how during the ‘boycott’ period, she (along with other freelance protestors) will not log in to Twitter.

Except, Twitter addiction is so real that at around 12:54 PM, only 54 minutes into her ‘boycott’, she could not resist and ended up tweeting something to ex-Aam Aadmi Party founding member Prashant Bhushan.

That is not it. She could not even resist ‘liking’ a tweet by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal which was posted at 2:14 PM. Here is the image of ‘likes’ tab of Kavita Krishnan.

The tweet by Arvind Kejriwal was posted at 2:14 PM. Two hours, 14 minutes after Kavita Krishnan claimed she would log out of Twitter and not access it, she was busy ‘liking’ tweets.

Just goes to show how the ‘boycott’ was just another farce, like everything else the communists do in name of resistance, protest and ‘fight for democracy’.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi caught spreading fake news that Dalits were beaten up in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri

On November 6, Congress social media account shared a news clip of a news channel ‘Bharat Samachar’ claiming that there is a state of lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh as some men were caught on camera beating up other men for allegedly giving a testimony.

Certain parts of the video are beeped out, making it unclear on the details of the victims as well as perpetrators. Congress UP General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, then took to Twitter to share the above tweet claiming that Dalits were beaten up in the video.

Goons in Uttar Pradesh brutally beat up Dalits for giving a testimony, she said in her tweet. The incident related to a land dispute where two groups clashed on November 4. The video of the men beating up others went viral on social media. Five persons from both the sides have now been arrested and as many as 26 people were booked under various sections of the IPC. The two groups were reportedly led by Arjun Singh and Karanpal Singh. Two injured, Naresh and Sonu, were admitted to Saifai Hospital.

Mainpuri Police’s official Twitter account called out the fake news spread by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for making it a casteism issue.

Uttar Pradesh Police, too, released a video of the Mainpuri Police official refuting the claims.

Mainpuri police official said that two groups clashed over harvesting and both the groups belonged to Thakur community. Both the groups fought with each other and got violent and people of both the groups were injured. Both the groups have also filed cross FIRs against each other. Mainpuri Police also condemned spreading such fake news via social media.

At the time of this report, neither Congress nor Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have retracted the false claims nor have they apologised for spreading fake news.

Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti goes to CNN and defames India, peddles the ‘Hindu Pakistan’ trope

PDP chief and the former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has been under detention ever since Article 370 was abrogated and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh. Since Mufti has been in detention and is, for the moment, unable to spew venom against India and sow discord, the mantle seems to have been taken up by her daughter, Iltija Mufti, who has gone on to further the same old propaganda against India on CNN.

Iltija Mufti appeared on a show with Christiane Amanpour on CNN where she was interviewed as the daughter of the Jammu and Kashmir politician who has been detained by India. In her interview, she proceeded to spew venom against India and Hindus at large.

In the snippet uploaded by Christiana Amanpour herself, Iltija Mufti can be heard saying that India uses Pakistan as a “stick to beat Kashmiris up with” but according to her, the truth is that Kashmir acceded to a “secular” India and now, India is turning into an ‘authoritarian Hindu Pakistan’. Iltija further says that India is turning into a cesspool of bigotry, selective persecution and hatred against minorities (Muslims).

What elements like Iltija take advantage of is the fact that people outside India, especially Westerners have a rather shallow understanding of the Kashmir issue. What they also take advantage of is the fact that the western world has often shied away from calling out radical Islamism or Islamic terror.

Read: If Indians care more about the land than the current residents of Kashmir, blame Jihad for it, not Indians

The Kashmir issue has been peddled and furthered as a “complex” one, however, at the crux of it is the virus of Islamic terrorism fueled and sponsored by Pakistan. What Iltija will not tell Amanpour is that Kashmir itself has been a cesspool of Islamic terrorism where the Hindu community was driven out of their own homes. That in Kashmir, Islamists 1990 had raised slogans from the Mosques saying that they want the Hindu men to leave, but leave their women behind. And all of this, coupled with severely discriminatory practices sanctioned by law, went unchecked because Jammu and Kashmir was accorded a ‘special status’ and immunity due to Article 370.

When Iltija goes on CNN and defames Hindus, insinuating that the Hindus are persecuting the Muslim community, she will not talk about the rampant crimes that are being perpetrated by the Muslim community where Hindu festivals are attacked or her own state where Hindus were raped, murdered and driven out of their own homes.

Read: ‘Ab Hind Banega Pakistan’: Event attended by Pakistani senator calls for Jihad against India, uses children to spread anti-Hindu bigotry

The trope of India becoming a “Hindu Pakistan” is in itself fallacious considered Pakistan is what it is because the country is based on the principles of a religion that espouses exclusivity and supremacy. Pakistan’s Hindu population has declined over the decades because minorities in the country are severely persecuted and forced conversions are rampant. Hindus, on the other hand, believe in plurality and always have.

The truth of the matter is that elements like Iltija and her mother who is now in detention want to turn Kashmir into an Islamic colony of Pakistan and with the abrogation of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir coming directly under the centre after being turned into a Union Territory has shattered that dream mercilessly. Under the previous regimes, separatists and terrorists were mollycoddled with the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh getting his pictures clicked with a terrorist like Yasin Malik who had killed 4 pilots and was instrumental in the genocide of Hindus in 1990. Under the Modi regime, Yasin Malik has been rotting in jail, where he belongs.

Mehbooba Mufti herself has espoused separatism and mollycoddled terrorists from the valley innumerous times. In fact, she has made several statements that disturb the peace and order of the country and her detention, after abrogation, was an attempt to ensure that passions are not flamed by her.

Interestingly, Iltija said not one word against the terrorists who are mercilessly killing civilians in Kashmir. In fact, Amanpour mentioned the killing and then immediately proceeded to give Iltija the opportunity to play the victim by saying that since she is speaking from Delhi, she is afraid for her safety. Iltija then claimed that she has been threatened by the government and the BJP IT Cell without, of course, providing any proof whatsoever.

The entire exercise as evident from the interview of Iltija Mufti was to shift the international narrative against India with respect to Kashmir and in favour of Pakistan. After the abrogation of Article 370, the global community rallied behind India with several countries saying that this is India’s internal matter. Pakistan rallied with the global community against India and failed miserably. With the Pakistan sympathisers in detention, it appears to fall upon Iltija, to further the trope in the international community that would favour Pakistan and in turn, favour the separatists and terrorists.

Chhattisgarh: One Sunita Kushwaha killed and burnt after she goes to ex-lover Zameer Khan’s home to insist on getting married

0

A woman named Sunita Kushwaha has been brutally murdered in the Navagarh town in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district. As per reports, the woman had been duped after a long relationship with a man named Zameer Khan and was murdered after she confronted Zameer’s family members.

As per reports, Sunita had come to her lover Zameer Khan’s family home in Navagarh town’s ward number 2. Late on Sunday night, Sunita was allegedly sitting outside Zameer’s family home and had been knocking the door to be let in. When Zameer’s elder brother Anwar Khan returned from a Kabaddi match late at around 2 am, he was enraged to find Sunita still sitting there. Anwar and Sunia had allegedly got into a verbal spat following which Anwar had picked up a stone and crushed Sunita’s head.

As per reports, Anwar Khan then strangulated Sunita, poured petrol over Sunita’s body and burnt it. Later, Anwar surrendered at the police station.

Sunita Kushwaha, a resident of Jayanagar in Sarguja district, was reportedly studying in Bilaspur almost a decade ago when she had met Zameer Khan and they had fallen in love. Zameer Khan and Sunita had been in a live-in relationship for several years during which Sunita had also got pregnant and had to abort the child under Zameer’s pressure.

Sunita reportedly had no contact with her family and had been staying in Bilaspur. After being in a relationship with Sunita for several years, Zameer had reportedly wanted to dump her. Zameer had returned to his village and when he had refused to marry Sunita, she had allegedly filed an FIR against him. Zameer was arrested and was put in jail for a while.

Zameer’s father and family members had allegedly promised Sunita that they would get Zameer to marry her and had convinced her to withdraw her complaint against him. But after being released from jail, Zameer had married a Muslim girl of his family’s choice and was living with his wife’s parents in another village.

Sunita used to regularly visit Zameer’s family home in Navagarh and ask them to convince him to marry her despite being aware of his marital status. Due to her regular visits, several people in the neighbourhood were known to her. On the night of the incident, she had also come from Bilaspur to meet Zameer’s family and was sitting outside their home trying to get them to take her in.

Anwar Khan has reportedly told the police that the family was sick of Sunita’s visits and her obsession with getting married to Zameer.

Fugitive Nirav Modi threatens to ‘kill himself’ if extradited to India

As his bail application was rejected by the UK court for the fifth time, the fugitive businessman Nirav Modi threatened a UK court on Wednesday claiming that he would kill himself if his extradition to India is ordered.

Reportedly, the 49-year-old multi-crore scam accused appeared before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court with his barrister Hugo Keith QC, who made a fifth bail application. However, the UK court rejected his bail plea yet again despite he had offered an “unprecedented bail package”, including 4-million pounds in security and also a house arrest similar to those imposed on terrorist suspects.

Nirav Modi’s lawyer Keith has claimed that the accused has been beaten up twice in Wandsworth prison in April and most recently on Tuesday.

“Just after 9 am yesterday, two inmates entered his cell and while holding the door shut, punched him, pushed him to the floor, kicked him and made extortion attempts on him whilst he was on the phone to a colleague. It was a targeted attack probably brought about by the renewed media coverage [of the case],” he said referring to parts of a confidential doctor’s report on Nirav’s depression leaked to the press.

The lawyer claimed that the prison service failed to respond to the assaults and Nirav’s request to see a counsellor was also denied. Nirav Modi has wrongly been called a ‘billionaire diamantaire’ in the press so such assaults will happen again, Keith said.

In evidence submitted to the court, Nirav said he would kill himself if his extradition to India was ordered and expressed his apprehension that he would not get a fair trial in India.

To avoid extradition to India, Nirav’s barrister suggested that jail-like conditions akin to suspected terrorists to be given to Nirav Modi, paid by himself, whereby visitors will be allowed to visit him from 9 am to 9 pm. The barrister suggested that Nirav Modi could be kept under 24-hour security cameras in his house and 12-hour security guards and restrictions could be put on his phone and computer, claiming that Nirav Modi was facing “enormous difficulties preparing his defence from jail”.

Denying bail once again, chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said she fears that Nirav Modi would abscond or could interfere with witnesses and destroy evidence. The next hearing is scheduled on December 4.

Nirav Modi, his wife Ami Modi, brother Nishal Modi, and uncle Mehul Choksi are accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank to the tune of Rs 14,356 crore by obtaining Letter of Undertaking without furnishing any guarantee.

Kerala: Priest who said homosexuality and masturbation leads to autistic children will now ‘counsel’ children with autism

Father Dominic Valanmanal, an Idukki-based Catholic priest who was forced to cancel his retreats in foreign countries after his shocking remark over autistic kids, now plans to conduct a ‘prayer meet’ and a counselling session for autistic children and their parents.

Reportedly, Father Dominic has scheduled a counselling session for parents of autistic children at Marian Retreat Centre at Anakkara in Idukki on November 17 and 18. Following the counselling, a “prayer meeting” has also been arranged for autistic kids at the retreat centre.

Besides that, a prayer meeting for the autistic children is scheduled at Renewal Retreat Centre at Bengaluru on November 8 and 9. However, these special programmes are not listed at the retreat centre’s official website.

Father Dominic Valanmanal, a Syro-Malabar Church priest from Kanjirappally diocese and the director of the retreat centre at Anakkara, had stirred a controversy by comparing children with autism to ‘animals’. In a video, Father Valanmanal had said that adultery, masturbation, homosexuality and porn addiction leads to having children with autism.

He had said, “It is because the anointing (sanctity) is lost. The young men and women have not filled with the Holy Spirit anymore. Afterwards, they lead an animal-like life. They copulate like animals. They bear children like animals. Therefore, those children will also be like animals. Animals do not speak, they do not have ears and can’t hear. It is not human”.

Father Valanmanal’s remark created a big controversy and three countries – Australia, Canada, Ireland, cancelled his retreats. Later, the priest cancelled all his international tours for this year. The website of the Marian retreat centre also removed the list of the outside retreat programmes of the priest.

However, Father Valanmanal and church officials claimed that the video was fabricated and the priest did not conduct any remarks against autism kids. In July, the priest expressed regrets in his controversial statement through a video.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announces ₹25,000 crore alternate investment fund to revive stalled housing projects

Yesterday after raising concerns over the problems faced by the real estate sector, saying that the ailing sector required a lot of attention, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a media brief in Delhi today announced measures the central government has decided to undertake to boost the real estate sector by infusing funds to revive stalled housing projects.

In the press conference, the union minister announced that the cabinet has approved setting up a “Special Window” to provide priority debt for completing stalled affordable and middle-income housing projects. As part of the measure, funds worth ₹25,000 crore will set up, where the government will contribute ₹10,000 crore. The government shall act as the sponsor of the fund which will provide relief to developers with unfinished projects and ensure delivery of homes to buyers, said the minister.

The government will first fund Rs 10,000 crore. The rest amount will come from participation from SBI and LIC. The total funding from the government and SBI and LIC put together is expected to have a starting value at around Rs 25,000 crore. Other than SBI and LIC, sovereign and pension funds will also be able to invest in the fund. The funds will be set up as Category-II Alternate Investment Fund (AIF) registered with SEBI, and the first AIF so set up will be managed by SBICAP Ventures Limited through an escrow account.

Admitting that the realty sector has been left out of the booster measures announced earlier, the Finance minister in the press brief said that the government and Reserve Bank are working in unison to resolve the issues being faced by this sector. She said the sector has a spillover effect on many sectors, especially the core sector.

“The government is very keen and is working very clearly together with the RBI to see how best we can, where necessary, tweak the existing norms to help the people who are affected in the realty sector,” said Sitharaman.

“Lot of homebuyers have approached us. They are stuck in a situation where they have paid an advance but don’t have their housing units built. Approximately 1,600 projects are stalled, which is around 4.58 lakh housing units”, furthered the FM. These stuck projects are at various stages of completion.

Even if the project is a non-performing asset, or is incomplete, or a project is under the arbitration of NCLT can be covered under this scheme, provided the project has not gone under liquidation already, confirmed Nirmala Sitharaman while briefing media in Delhi today.

The main criteria to be covered under this scheme is that the project’s net worth must be positive. RERA registered incomplete projects will be evaluated for its net worth. The AIF will fund RERA registered incomplete projects which are over 30 per cent complete, said the minister.

Sitharaman confirmed that since August the government has been making various interventions to revive the market and consumer demand. Still, there is a lot of work to be done and “one particular sector which I have not touched, but which has a lot of positive impacts and also can affect an impact for the stock market, is the real estate sector.”

A statement released by Finance Mininstry regarding the move said, “The Special Window would provide funds to stalled housing projects enabling them to complete unfinished projects and consequently ensure delivery of homes to a large number of home-buyers. This will, in due course, help relieve the financial stress faced by a large number of middle class home buyers who have invested their hard earned money. This will also restore trust between buyers and developers and boost the sentiments of the housing sector as a whole and release large amount of funds stuck in these projects for productive use in the economy.

The creation of special window for affordable and middle income housing projects would revive the real estate sector and generate considerable employment. Besides, revival of the sector will also lead to demand of Cement, Iron & Steel Industries giving further impetus to generate more employment. This initiative will have a positive effect in releasing stress in other major sectors of the Indian economy as well.”
