Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar believes that there should have been another Super Over to decide the Final

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said on Tuesday that the final should have been decided with another super over if it was tied after the first super over. The winner of World Cup final was decided after the match was tied even in the super over and England won the title on the basis of most number of boundaries.

In an interview with 100MBSports, Tendulkar said, “I feel there should be another super over to decide the winner, instead of considering the number of boundaries scored by both teams. Not just in a World Cup final. Every game is important. Like in football, when teams go into extra time, nothing else matters.”

Tendulkar also talked about the importance of an even contest between bat and ball in ODIs and how fans like more low scoring games. New Zealand defended a low score of 239 against India in the semi-final and almost defended 241 against England in the finals.

“I think the fans enjoy seeing a total of 240 on the board a lot more than 325. In a high-scoring match, the batsmen usually dominate, and the bowlers are constantly looking for cover. But in low-scoring games, the batsmen must apply and stay there to get those crucial runs against bowlers who are running in with their tails up. In fact, some of the batsmen did stay there and got more runs. This pattern of batsmen being made to work hard by the bowlers has been a welcome change in this tournament,” said Tendulkar.

The World Cup is over and many former players and experts are suggesting to change the rules for the Finals at least.

Uttar Pradesh: Muslims in Peepalsana village in Moradabad desert barbers for offering haircuts to Dalits

The barbers in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh are now facing the wrath of the Muslim customers for attending to Dalits of the Valmiki community. In a latest development, the Muslim customers living in Moradabad’s Peepalsana village, which is essentially a Muslim dominated locality, have now deserted the barbers resulting in a severe loss of business to them, reports Swarajya.

The barbers in Moradabad’s Peepalsana village were compelled to attend to Dalits after the state authority sprung to action following complaints from Dalits of the Valmiki community, on July 13, against caste-based discrimination by Muslim barbers in the area. Allegedly, Muslim barbers had refused to offer haircuts to Dalits living in their village.

After this news of caste-based discrimination by Muslim barbers in Moradabad’ Peepalsana village was picked up by various media houses, the state police had intervened by first trying to resolve the issue unofficially. They tried getting the two parties to talk to each other. But when it did not work, the police filed an FIR against three persons — Riyaz Alam, Ishaq and Jahid — under section 504 of Indian Penal code (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).

The trio were also booked under section 3(1)(za)(D) and 3(1)(zc) of the SC/ST act. The former is related to entering any public place/using any utensils or articles meant for public use in any place open to the public and the latter deals with cases relating to social or economic boycott.

“In the beginning, the police called all of us to the station. They issued a warning that if we don’t give haircuts to Valmikis, the case will be filed against us. At the time, everyone agreed to not refuse service to them and we all came back but then most barbers decided to shut their shops for a few days. The idea behind it was to let the situation cool down so that things could return to old normal. But an FIR was filed against us. Police forced us to open shops and serve Valmikis.” one of the accused in the case, Ishaq, told Swarajya.

Following the complaint, all the 20 barbers in the area, including the trio had fallen in line. They were compelled to open their shops on Sunday and attend to the Dalit customers as well. However, following this, the Muslim customers, who were angered by this move, have decided to boycott the barbers in the area.

Swarajya quoted Ishaq as saying, “Sir, earlier I used to make Rs 800-900 a day, now getting even Rs 100 is an uphill task. Customers pass by my shop, they peep inside and just move on.” Adding that any Muslim customer who sees a Valmiki getting a haircut at a shop is unlikely to visit it.

“We will have no choice but to shut shops. Three barbers have already lost all their customers. You tell me, will you be okay if we use the same towel for you that we use to clean their (Valmikis) face? It’s not a Hindu-Muslim issue. Even some upper-caste Hindus in the village say they won’t come to us if we give haircuts to Valmikis,” 22-year old Naved Abbasia, another barber in the area told Swarajya.

In fact, the caste-based discrimination in this area is so staunch that not only Muslims but people belonging to the upper-class Hindus also had disappointing responses to this issue.

When Swarajya approached a Hindu named Amaresh Gupta, who runs a tea stall with his son Sumit, and asked them whether they would have any problem going to the same barbershop visited by Valmikis, they too, came up with a disconcerting response.

They said they would happily go to a Muslim barber for a haircut but won’t tolerate their own co-religionist (who they deem low-born) getting one at the same shop.

Meanwhile, a Muslim father-son duo, who did not want to be named shared their ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy with the Swarajya correspondent. “Nahi pata ho to chale jaayenge, pata chal jaaye to parhez karenge. If we don’t know that they (Valmikis) are getting their hair cut at a barbershop, we have no problem visiting it. But will try to avoid going to a shop if we know they are also visiting it, admitted the duo. They added that “Most of the time, we are in Himachal due to work. There, we don’t know who belongs to which caste. We get our haircuts anywhere without looking at these things. But here in the village, it’s hard to ignore,” they claimed.

They also said that the ‘Namazis’ are extra apprehensive and prefer to shave and cut their hair at home, “Jo Namazi hai woh to aur bhi parhez karega aisi dukaan pe jaane mein.

Other three Muslim youths, who also didn’t want to reveal their names, and who are neighbours of Valmikis, say that they won’t go to the shops Valmikis are getting their haircuts at. “It’s not acceptable to us. How can you let the barber use the same instruments on their body and then yours?” they wondered.

Taking this shallow mindset to another level, a woman shopkeeper Fazilat while talking to Swarajya, claimed that they were ‘paak’ (pure) people and could not think of mingling with people of a different caste. We even wash our hands and legs before going to the mosque,” Fazilat asserted. However, on being asked if she has read the Quran, she replied in the negative, claimed the Swarajya correspondent.

Meanwhile, Abdul Nayab, another shopkeeper said that he personally had no issues going to barber shops where Valmikis also visit but many of his neighbours don’t like it, he said. Moreover, Abdul went on to use a vexing Hindi metaphor which only depicts the deep-rooted castist mentality of the people living in that area. He said “Par jab chai mein makhi dikh jaati hai, to log nikaal ke he piyenge,” implying that as long as the barbers don’t get to know the caste of their customers they are fine with attending the Valmiki’s, but once they get to know they would obviously have a problem in serving them.

Because of this deep-rooted conviction, the barbers there feel that they will have to shut shops sooner than later. “What’s the option? If there are no customers, we will have to pack up in a matter of days,” says Naved Abbassi.

Ishaq, against whom the police filed a complaint said that he never refused service to Valmiki customers. Meanwhile, Riyaz Alam, another barber named in the FIR and whose shop is a stone’s throw away from Ishaq’s, also assured the same. “I don’t know where this case has come up from. Just a month back, we were playing cricket with them. Question of refusing them haircuts doesn’t arise,” he told the correspondent while showing a photo of him cutting the hair of a few Valmikis.

He had sent the photos to the police and district officials as proof that he was complying with their directions.

While Ishaq, Riyaz and other barbers said that Valmikis never went to them as customers earlier and that they used to go to nearby town Bhojpur for haircuts, the Dalits opinioned that they did not have a choice as the Muslim barbers in Peepalsana wouldn’t entertain them.

“On 6 July, our children went to shops of Riyaz, Ishaq and Jahid for a haircut but they turned them away because of their caste. One child was our relative’s who were visiting us from another town,” Anil Kumar said, directly refuting Riyaz’s claim. “He used to play cricket with me. He was my good friend. Then, shouldn’t he have cut my hair? He refused to do so outright,” Kumar added.

“Our relatives mock us saying we have to go out of the village for even a haircut. People from our caste living in other areas hesitate to marry their daughter in Peepalsana. Such is our condition,” Sonu Kumar lamented. “Earlier generation wasn’t so educated and aware but today’s youth don’t tolerate this discrimination. It’s a free country. How long can one endure such mistreatment,” he asked.

“These people don’t have any problem in getting their haircuts from the same barbers who cut even the hair of sheep. Are we even lower than animals, then? Hindustan is our country. We will fight for our rights even if we have to give up our lives in exchange,” claimed another resident, Mukesh Kumar.

Moreover, though a police officer at Bhojpur thana, Naveen Kumar confirmed that the matter is now settled the elders in the area believe that things will be the same as before in a matter of few days. “Abhi thoda garam chal raha hai. Kuch din mein purane jaisa mahaul ho jaayega (tensions are on the higher side at present but it will soon be like it used to). They also don’t have the time to persist with this,” one the elder said. “They work out of the village that’s why they used to get haircuts done there. Wonder where this new thing came from,” he added.

However, the Dalits in the area are in no mood to let go so easily, “No barber is refusing us now. “Agar koi mana karega to phir pitaji ke paas pahunch jaayenge”, (implying that if someone refuses, we will go back to our ‘father’- referring to the state administration), Mukesh Kumar was quoted by Swarajya as saying.

One Muslim resident was also quoted saying that a similar situation had arisen a few years back but was managed by local politicians. “They had persuaded Valmikis not to persist with it and the latter agreed. Par ab ye kehte hain ki sarkar inki hai (Now they say it’s their government),” he said, almost complaining.

26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed gets arrested in Pakistan and netizens can’t stop laughing at this photo of his

26/11 terror attack mastermind and terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed was arrested in Pakistan today. The news agency ANI tweeted this news with a rather amusing image.

In the image, the black vest which Saeed is wearing and the black pant the person standing behind him is wearing appear like the same piece of clothing. Amused netizens took to Twitter poke fun at Hafiz Saeed.

And Photoshop skills were on full display.

Twitterati also took a dig at how Hafiz Saeed’s arrest by Pakistan police is just an eyewash, as it has been in the past.

Whether Saeed’s arrest was an eyewash or to save Prime Minister Imran Khan’s face during his scheduled visit to the US in a few days’ time or whether it was the FATF pressure of being blacklisted, only time will tell. For the moment, twitterati had a few good laughs.

Ranchi Bar Association boycotts the judge who had ordered Ranchi girl to distribute Quran as bail condition

The Ranchi District Bar Association has decided to boycott the court for Magistrate Manish Kumar Singh for his controversial order asking a woman to distribute Quran as a condition for bail.

Talking to media, Secretary of the bar association Kundan Prakash said that they have lodged a complaint with the Judicial Commissioner against the magistrate for the order, and demanded that the bail condition should be withdrawn. They also demanded the transfer of magistrate Manish Kumar Singh from the Ranchi court. Prakash said that although the JC has sought 48 hours to resolve the issue, the bar association has unanimously decided to boycott the court of Manish Singh. No lawyer will work in his court until he is transferred, he asserted.

Talking about the judgement, Mr Prakash said that this order is disturbing the communal harmony. The situation in the country is already tense, and the magistrate has further instigated the same. ‘I he wants to do politics, he should resign and join some political party. He has behaved like a politician, which is condemnable’, he said. Kundan Prakash added that they have never such a judgement before, and it should be withdrawn suo-moto.

Former Secretary of the bast association Sanjay Vidrohi further added other allegations against magistrate Manish Singh. He said that earlier also they had complained about him with the JC, but the judge used to reject applications of such advocates in court in revenge.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdtariOvHW0]

He said that this order violates the right to religion, right speech of citizens. We have freedom to follow our religion, but nobody can be forced to preach for a religion. He said that there is nothing objectionable in the message posted by Richa Bharti. He also added that police violated norms by arresting the girl without giving a notice, as per provisions of section 41A of the CRPC. The CRPC also does not mention any such condition that can be applied for granting bail, Vidrohi added. He said that the even Muslim advocates have expressed shock at the order of the court.

Richa Bharti was arrested Ranchi police after a complaint was lodged against her Facebook post responding to a video uploaded by popular TikTok personalities regarding the death of Tabrez Ansari in police custody. They were seen propagating hatred by arguing that if Tabrez Ansari’s son takes his revenge tomorrow, Muslims shouldn’t be called terrorists. To this Richa had asked why only Muslims think of embracing terrorism and why aggrieved Kashmiri Pandits and people from other communities who have suffered a lot do not become terrorists. After spending two days in custody, she was granted bail, but on the condition that she will have to distribute 5 Qurans. Richa has refused to do so, and nationwide support has poured in her support, with many lawyers offering to fight her case for free in higher courts.

26/11 terror attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed arrested, sent to judicial custody

Days after Pakistani court granted him anticipatory bail, Chief of Pakistan based terrorist organisation Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed has been arrested by the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department in Pakistan. He has been sent to prison on judicial remand.

Earlier this month, Saeed was booked along with his 12 accomplices over terror funding allegations. Currently, he is facing around 23 terror-related cases in Pakistan but the Pakistan government did not produce concrete evidence before the court. As a result, he was granted bail by the court. It is notable here that the Jamat-ul-Dawa and Falah-e-Insaniyat are the front organisations run by Saeed to finance terror outfits working under his patronage.

Saeed was the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He was banned by the UN in December 2008 after the attack. He is also the founder of the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba. In March, the United Nations had rejected Saeed’s appeal of removing his name from the list of banned terrorists.

Tiranga TV in yet another controversy: Girl accuses senior producer of sexual harassment, makes lewd chats public

The controversies surrounding Congress leader Kapil Sibal promoted channel Tiranga TV refuse to die down. After employees were laid off without being given their due and Barkha Dutt lashing out at the channel and the Sibals, now a girl has accused its senior producer of sexual harassment. Himanshi Gupta took to Twitter to make lewd WhatsApp chats public.

The senior producer of Tiranga TV, Suresh Kumar S is being accused of sending lewd messages and sexual harassment of Himanshi despite her protests and calling her incessantly.

In her tweet, Himanshi Gupta also includes a picture of Suresh Kumar S and his LinkedIn profile to prove that the man harassing her is, in fact, the senior producer of Tiranga TV.

From his LinkedIn profile, it is apparent that he has been working with Tiranga TV since its inception.

In the chats made public by Himanshi Gupta, one can see Suresh sending lewd messages to her and persist with multiple messages amounting to sexual harassment. He clearly asks her to have intercourse with him and follows it up with graphic details and lewd messages.

It is also seen that Himanshi then responds to Suresh and says that for her he is merely an experienced journalist and his messages are rather inappropriate.

After Himanshi made the details public, the Twitter handle of #MeTooIndia, that tracks complaints of sexual harassment, responded to her asking her whether Suresh persisted even after Himanshi explicitly told him that his messages were inappropriate.

To that Himanshi says that after her protest, initially he apologised and said he would not persist but then later he messaged and told her that he would not sleep and continue to text her.

On July 15, in a series of tweets, Barkha Dutt had alleged that journalists working at Tiranga TV were abruptly sacked, without any prior notice and they were not offered 6-months severance payout.

Barkha Dutt had also said that Kapil Sibal had threatened her of defamation suit for calling him Mallya. She had compared him with the fugitive liquor baron for not paying due compensation to fired employees and going to London. Dutt had said that she refuses to withdraw the comment, and will fight the case if required. Barkha Dutt had also accused Kapil Sibal’s wife of being insensitive to the plight of employees of Tiranga TV.

Later, in the evening, the crisis took an ugly turn when Kapil Sibal appointed bouncers at the Tiranga TV office to intimidate journalists who were sitting on a peaceful protest against the channel’s unprofessional conduct. Employees were apparently on an all-night sit-in dharna to demand a 6-month payout.

Barkha Dutt has now said that she would be initiating criminal and civil action against Kapil Sibal and wife Promila Sibal who promoted Tiranga TV.

Till the time this article was published, Barkha had not reacted on the Tiranga TV sexual harassment accusations.

Gujarat Congress MLA wants unmarried girls to stop using mobile phones, supports ban on intercaste marriages

Gujarat Congress MLA Geniben Thakor has extended her support to the resolution adopted by Thakor community in Banaskantha district which bans unmarried girls from using mobile phones. The resolution also bans inter-caste marriage. She said that such a ban would put a stop to ‘such incidents’.

The Kshatriya Thakor Samaj, in a community meeting on July 14 at Jegol village, decided to “ban” the use of mobile phones by unmarried women and said that if anyone “violates society’s norms”, it would be considered as a crime.

A heavy penalty has been proposed for girls and the parents who break these rules. To avoid legal complications the resolution used creative euphemism for ‘inter-caste marriages’. “Whichever girl ‘puts the community down’, her responsibility will lie with the family and the parents will be liable to pay fines according to the Constitution and such fine will be Rs. 1.5 lakh for the daughters and the penalty sum for the parents of such sons will be Rs. 2 lakh,” the order read.

Congress MLA Geniben Thakor justified the move by saying that such ban on usage of mobile phones by unmarried girls will ‘automatically control the boys’. “Since girls are easily controlled because they stay with their parents, it is right to ban the mobile phones for girls,” she said.
This is not the first time Geniben Thakor has given such a controversial statement. Last year, while addressing a farmers’ gathering, she had said that she was pained by the plight of the farmers and if it were up to her, she would kill them (BJP leaders) and go to jail if it were to come to that.

Nitish Kumar govt directs police to ‘gather information’ on the RSS and its subsidiary outfits in Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had reportedly ordered the state police to gather information on the RSS and its 17 subsidiary outfits in the state. On 28 May 2019, the Superintendent of Police (Special Branch), Patna had sent a letter to Deputy SPs (Special Branch) to “collect names, addresses, phone no & professions of the office bearers of RSS & its below mentioned supporting organisations”, residing in their areas “within 1 week”.

The letter directs teh DSPs to gather information on the RSS and its 17 subsidiaries namely: VHP, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagaran Samiti, Dharm Jagaran Samanvay Samiti, Hindu Rashtra Sena, Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, Shiksha Bharti, Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Durga Vahini, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Bharatiya Rail Sangh, ABVP, Akhil Bharatiya Shikshak Mahasangh, Hindu Mahasabha, Hindu Yuva Vahini and the Hindu Putra Sangh.

Reportedly, the Special Branch is tasked with confidentially briefing the chief minister. It is not clear whether the DSPs have already submitted their reports.

KC Tyagi, national secretary-general of JD(U), said that this was a routine issue. He said that such an exercise would be conducted by the intelligence wing from time to time. He also said that the government does not intend to target any organisation.

A senior RSS leader has said that some of the names mentioned in the letter did not even exist. “This indicates how the intelligence wing of the state police functions in the state,” he said, adding that altogether 37 subsidiary organisations of the RSS are active across the country.

The letter was reportedly written five days after the 2019 Lok Sabha results were announced in which the BJP led NDA was re-elected with an astounding majority.

In May, just before the swearing-in ceremony was about to begin at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Nitish Kumar had announced that it won’t be joining the cabinet of the Modi government. JDU chief Nitish Kumar said that inclusion of just 1 JDU MP in the cabinet would have meant symbolic participation and that he has informed the BJP that they don’t need it.

Congress leader Kapil Sibal and wife to be sued by journalist Barkha Dutt for fraud and cheating in Tiranga TV case

There seems to be no end to the fighting between Congress leader Kapil Sibal and ‘journalist’ Barkha Dutt over the Tiranga TV fiasco, as latter has now decided to initiate criminal and civil proceedings against Kapil Sibal and his wife for cheating, fraud and refusal to honour the contract.

In a tweet, controversial ‘journalist’ Barkha Dutt, once the blue-eyed girl of the Congress ecosystem, threatened her former boss Kapil Sibal and his wife Promila Sibal for cheating and refusing to uphold the contract.

In her tweet, Barkha Dutt said that she intends to initiate proceedings so that the staff of Tiranga TV, whom she claims to support, fully get their due compensations of 3 months after they were arbitrarily sacked by Tiranga TV promoted by Kapil Sibal.

Just yesterday Barkha Dutt had written a complaint to National Commission for Women against Tiranga TV promoter Promila Sibal accusing her of abusing female staff members of the channel including Barkha Dutt. She had alleged that senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal and his wife-Promila Sibal had referred to the female employees of their channel Tiranga TV as Kutiya or Bitch.

The National Commission for women had taken cognisance of Barkha Dutt’s complaint against Tiranga TV promoters. It had also clarified that it is only taking up the matter of outraging the modesty of women.

Barkha Dutt had also accused Kapil Sibal’s wife of being insensitive to the plight of employees.

Rebel MLAs cannot be compelled to attend house proceedings, speaker to decide on resignations in time-bound manner: SC

In a big relief to the rebel Congress-JDS MLAs, the Supreme Court pronounced its order in Karnataka MLAs resignation case stating that they cannot be compelled to participate in proceedings of the state assembly till the speaker decides on their resignations.

Reportedly, the three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi delivered an interim order stating that it was imperative to maintain Constitutional balance in the judgement.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the speaker has to decide on resignation of 15 MLAs in a time-bound manner and he cannot compel the rebel Congress-JDS lawmakers to participate in proceedings of Assembly till the Speaker rules on their resignation. The top court directed Karnataka speaker KR Ramesh Kumar to decide on the resignations of the rebel Congress-JDS MLAs under Article 190 in a time-bound manner.

The Supreme Court has also ruled that the rebel MLAs have the liberty to decide on whether they wished to attend the trust vote which has been scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 18.

Interestingly, the Supreme Court has refused to decide the issue of disqualification of the rebel Congress-JDS MLAs under the Tenth Schedule. The Supreme Court also said that the other larger legal questions need to be decided and deserved an answer only at a later stage.

The HD Kumaraswamy led Congress-JDS coalition government has now pushed into a corner with leaving them only option to seek trust vote on Thursday to prove their majority in the assembly. With 15 rebel Congress-JDS MLAs getting a huge relief from the Supreme Court, the Congress-JDS government will be short of numbers to prove their majority in the assembly.
