Controversial Tamil director Pa Ranjith makes abusive claims against Hinduism, calls Chola legend Raja Raja Chola a ‘land grabber’

Pa Ranjith, a controversial Tamil director, who claims to be a follower of Periyar and Ambedkar, has created a controversy by making abusive remarks not only against Hinduism but also against one of the greatest rulers of the country, Raja Raja Chola.

A video has gone viral on social media where Pa Ranjith, who often indulges in anti-Hindu and anti-upper caste narrative through in his films, can be heard making vicious Hinduphobic statements. In his speech, he asserts that the government should grab the lands given to mutts and should re-distribute them to Dalits. He further tries to spew venom by attempting to alienate Dalits from being Hindus and alleged that Hindus had grabbed land from Dalits.

Mocking the Hindus and their gods, Pa Ranjith arrogantly went on to make intimidating statements saying that if cows are considered to be the god of the Hindus, then he is the one who eats their god.

Pa Ranjith further goes on to foul mouth against one of the greatest emperors of Chola dynasty, Raja Raja Chola. Calling the Raja Raja Chola’s rule as the dark times of the era, Ranjith further peddles false narrative claiming that caste oppression was started during the time of Raja Raja Chola.

In a desperate attempt to gain some fame, Pa Ranjith has deliberately chosen to ignore the cultural and political accomplishments of the great Chola empire, especially Raja Raja Chola and instead resorted to cheap abuses against Hinduism and the Chola Empire.

Raja Raja Chola is one of the greatest emperors of the medieval era. Being a great patron of Shaivism, he constructed the great Raja Rajeshwar temple also known as the Brihadeeswarar temple at Tanjore, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Raja Raja Chola was the man behind the resurgence of the Cholas not only in the south but also in regions far beyond Indian territories during the 11th century. The Cholas during the rule of Raja Raja Chola developed links all over south India. They had even brought Srilanka, South- East Asia and even China under the network of their trade.

It is highly disturbing that self-proclaimed Ambedkarites and Periyarites like Pa Ranjith are freely allowed to hate monger and indulge in divisive politics, who otherwise have no sense of the history or respect for their own culture.

Media focusing on Aligarh child murder case on the instructions of their ‘father figure’ because accused are Muslims: Asaduddin Owaisi

Controversial politician Asaduddin Owaisi, known for his searing brand of politics, today shockingly gave a communal flair to the tragedy of the murder of a 2.5-year-old minor girl in Aligarh. Owaisi asserted that the media’s excessive coverage of the Aligarh murder incident was on the instructions of their ‘father figure’ to tarnish the image of the Muslims. The comments were essentially made in reference to the accused in the Aligarh murder case who are all Muslims.

Owaisi said, “I condemn the Aligarh incident, I condemn the SR Nagar incident. I also condemn the Gorakhpur rape incident. That Dalit girl is our daughter. I condemn the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Indore. I condemn whatever happened in Gaya, Bihar. When a human becomes a demon, he starts behaving in this manner. But we have no hopes from our media. They will not show all these incidents. Because their father-figure told them to portray a community in a bad light.’

Owaisi slammed the media for not placing the same importance to other atrocities happening in the country as they are to the Aligarh murder. In an apparent reference to PM Modi, Owaisi alleged that the media is not showing all the other incidents and only concentrating on Aligarh murder because their ‘father figure’ had asked them to show a particular community in a bad light. The 4 accused arrested so far in the Aligarh murder case are all Muslims.

Tina (name changed), resident of Tappal, Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, was choked to death by Zahid and Aslam over an argument with her family regarding a small loan amount of Rs 10000. The principal accused, Zahid had brutally strangled Tina with a dupatta (scarf) and hid the body in his house in a straw bag. After three days when the corpse started emitting a foul odour, Zahid threw Tina’s body in a pile of trash. Tina’s body was completely decomposed with her eyes gouged out.

Tina’s mother had already alleged that Aslam, the co-accused in Tina’s murder had earlier raped his own daughter, following which Aslam’s wife had fled to her parent’s home with her daughter.

In addition, the police have made two more arrests in the case on Saturday, including the wife of Zahid and his younger brother. So far, 4 arrests have been made in the case. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of 6 members has been instituted and asked to submit their probe report within 3 weeks.

While the first ‘witch’ was executed today in 1692, the puritan spirit that drove the Salem Witch Trials executions is well alive and thriving

Throughout its history, Monotheism has had a strange way of manifesting itself in the most twisted of ways. The entire concept is dependent on the existence of a ‘Great Other’ who constantly seeks to undermine the authority of the God-head.

In Christianity, the ‘Great Evil’ is called Satan or the Devil. Although the word ‘Devil’ is also used to describe demons in general, when ‘the’ is used before it, it only refers to Satan unless stated otherwise specifically.

Ever since Monotheism gained prominence, the adherents have attempted to wipe out the worship of all others Gods, save their own, terming the Divine as a manifestation of the Great Other. In the process, genocides have been committed, innocents have been tortured and the pious have been put to death on charges of the most heinous crime in Monotheism: Worshipping False Gods.

Monotheists also live in a constant state of paranoia, that the Great Other is always in our midst working to implement his heinous designs and corrupt humanity to turn us away from God. The paranoia manifests itself frequently and more often than not, innocents lose their lives as a consequence.

One of the most heinous manifestations of this paranoia in history was the Salem Witch Trials. Over the years, the trials gained great infamy for the manner in which the accused were held guilty and have now been popularized in pop-culture as one of the great evils of religion itself.

June the 10th has special significance in this regard as it was on this day all the way back in 1692 that the first victim of the trials was executed by hanging. Bridget Bishop was convicted of being a Witch as she was believed to live an ‘immoral lifestyle’ which was not consistent with the staunch Puritan norms that prevailed during that era. She also wore black attire and odd costumes, contrary to the mandates of the Puritan code. All these factors combined led to her execution.

The accusations against were quite fanciful, to put it mildly. In his book ‘Wonders of the Invisible World, Cotton Mather describes the allegations against her. According to some people, an apparition in the shape of Bishop would bite, pinch or choke them. Others claimed that the apparition threatened to drown them if they did not write their names in a certain book. During the hearing, a jury of women found a third nipple on her body, considered a sure sign of witchcraft, yet upon a second examination, the third nipple was not found. According to Mather, “there was little occasion to prove the witchcraft, it being evident and notorious to all beholders.”

For those with modern sensibilities, the allegations appear quite preposterous. However, ‘Spectral Evidence’ played a major role in convictions. It refers to the testimony of the allegedly afflicted that they saw an apparition in the shape of the person who was afflicting them. There were other ‘evidence’ presented as well, however, in all of them, ‘Spectral Evidence’ featured prominently.

Bridget Bishop was not the only one who fell victim to what has been referred to as a ‘mass hysteria’. 19 people were executed in total, one of them was executed because he refused to enter a formal plea. Giles Corey, an 81-year-old farmer, refused to enter a plea when he came to trial in September, the same year. The judges then sentenced him to death through an archaic form of punishment even in those days, the peine forte et dure, where stones were piled on his chest until he could no longer breathe. Contrary to popular beliefs, not only women were found guilty. Of the 19 executed, 5 were men.

The Salem Witch Trials are often described as a case of ‘mass hysteria’ but more accurately, it was an amalgamation of a myriad of political, religious, social and local factors. It wasn’t mere ‘hysteria’ either, some of the accusations were made due to rather petty personal squabbles and often motivated by vendetta. Therefore, to reduce the vast complexity of the events as mere hysteria is a great disservice to the victims. The conditions necessary for such a tragedy were very much in place and some people took advantage of it to settle personal scores.

An important thing to note here is that the Salem Witch Trails may have occurred centuries ago, however, the Puritan spirit that drove the persecution of the innocent is still very much alive. The manner of trials may have changed, the forms of punishment may have been altered but to this day, it continues to occur.

The first person that comes to mind is James Watson, the famed American molecular biologist and geneticist who proposed the double-helix structure of the DNA along with Francis Crick. In an interview with The Sunday Times in 2007, Watson said that he was “inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa” because “all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really”. He said there was a natural desire that all human beings should be equal but “people who have to deal with black employees find this not true”.

His opinions were reflected in another book that was published around the same time. He opined, “There is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically. Our wanting to reserve equal powers of reason as some universal heritage of humanity will not be enough to make it so.”

As a consequence of his comments, Watson was stripped of his titles and ostracized from the ‘scientific community’. Circumstances were so dire that he had to sell his Nobel award. He issued an apology after severe condemnations and the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) allowed him to retain an honorary position at the institution. In 2019, however, given an opportunity to take back his comments, Watson refused to do so.

In a PBS documentary, Watson said, “I would like for them to have changed, that there be new knowledge that says that your nurture is much more important than nature. But I haven’t seen any knowledge. And there’s a difference on the average between blacks and whites on I.Q. tests. I would say the difference is, it’s genetic.’’

Watson does admit that he wishes it were not so. Watson says,  “It’s awful, just like it’s awful for schizophrenics. If the difference exists, we have to ask ourselves, how can we try and make it better?” It’s pertinent to note that his own son was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in his teens. After his recent comments, the CSHL cut remaining ties with him. His son was unhappy, understandably so, but his comments were seen as sufficient reason for the severe consequences.

Amusingly enough, one would think that one of the most celebrated geneticists of our times would have greater knowledge about genetics than most of the ‘scientific community’. It’s also important to note that he was making a scientific point. His case reminds one of Christian crucification of heretics.

If IQ science is wrong, then the whole project ought to be scrapped entirely. Then why is it so that it is still prevalent and used by a great many institutions and taught in psychology departments across the world? Either it’s completely bogus or it is not, one cannot have both ways. Even more amusingly, Jordan Peterson, who has great respectability across all sections barring the Alt-Right and the Far Left, has echoed Watson’s opinions on several occasions without attracting the severe condemnation that the geneticist did.

Peterson continues to remain an esteemed Clinical Psychologist and is invited regularly in podcasts and for interviews where he is given the opportunity to defend his opinions at great length. He is seen as an inspirational figure. He has said that if anything in Social Science was authentic, then it was the concept of IQ. Granted that he has dealt with the question far more clinically and eloquently and humanely but the fact remains, he too agrees with Watson’s opinions. Of course, he doesn’t base it on Genetics like Watson does but then, who do you trust more when it comes to Genetics? An esteemed psychologist or an esteemed geneticist?

The question is not whether Watson and Peterson are right or wrong but whether Watson was deserving of the treatment he received? Peterson, quite clearly, hasn’t suffered any consequences at all. Then why Watson, one of the greatest geneticists to have ever lived?

There are other victims of this Puritan spirit of persecution as well. The manner in which Justice Kavanaugh was dragged through the mud in the USA for sheer politics was deplorable as well. An allegation of rape was levelled against him, the alleged victim did not remember when it occurred, where it occurred or the manner in which it occurred. The witnesses she claimed would corroborate her story denied having remembered anything close to what she was describing.

Soon after, other allegations surfaced as well and those were found to be complete and utter fabrications made by people of questionable character to slander Kavanaugh’s reputation. Needless to say, the allegations that were made against Kavanaugh would not even be considered by any Court in the USA. However, that did not prevent anyone from calling him a rapist, a sexual predator and a threat to women. This was akin to the ‘Spectral Evidence’ in the Salem Witch Trials. A man of impeccable reputation who has risen to where he is today was slandered merely for political objectives. This was not ‘mass hysteria’, this was the manifestation of the vile Puritan spirit of persecuting heretics.

Apart from these individual instances, we see a broader phenomenon at work as well. Anyone who disagrees with popular notions of Feminism and Liberalism is labelled a fascist, a sexist, a racist and attempts are made to destroy his or her career. We see it in the West and we see it here in India as well.

Consider the manner in which Alex Jones was deplatformed by social media organizations. He is a funny figure, sure. But the conspiracy theories he peddled were rather harmless. For certain, they were not anywhere close to being as harmful as the Russian Collusion delusion peddled by nearly every mainstream media outlet. They were certainly not as harmful of the Weapons of Mass Destruction conspiracy theory peddled by the US government and endorsed by every section of mainstream media to justify the Iraq War.

These sentiments have real-life violent consequences as well. Numerous Trump supporters were attacked viciously by Leftists causing immense them great injury. Due to this Puritan spirit of the Left, children as young as seven are being given puberty blockers, that is, hormones which prevent the normal growth of children through their adolescence into childhood without anyone with significant power raising a hue and cry over it. In the United Kingdom, authorities covered up the string of rapes of children by Muslim grooming gangs because they were too scared of being called racists. these violent delights do have violent ends.

Modernity has conclusively demonstrated that there are no more witches in this world to persecute. Therefore, the Puritans of the 21st century are engaging themselves in a bid to rid the world of racists, sexists, homophobes and xenophobes through any means necessary. In the aftermath of the Salem Witch Trials, there was great regret among the people regarding how things turned out. And the victims were exonerated of their guilt and given due honour. One can only hope that after this phase of Puritan rage is over, we will see a similar reckoning.

It is also important to note that such phenomena are only observed in the West while in India and other Asian non-monotheistic countries, it is not observed. The sole reason for it is that polytheistic cultures do not provide for the Puritan spirit necessary for the manifestation of such evil. There are on and off cases of ‘witches’ being lynched and put to death, sure, but the organized effort to execute them through the organized arms of the state is something that is never witnessed. And the people who do commit such atrocities are always booked under the law and awarded due punishment.

Shekhar Gupta’s The Print pronounces punishment for the convicted in Kathua case even before the court does

On Monday, a Pathankot special court delivered a judgement to convict six out of the seven accused in the heinous rape and killing of 8-year old girl in Kathua of Jammu and Kashmir.

Judge Tejvinder Singh of the special court pronouncing verdict in Kathua Rape case convicted the six out of the total seven accused including four policemen. However, the court delayed the announcement of the sentence until 2 PM on Monday afternoon.

Interestingly, leftist news portal The Print, owned by controversial journalist and Editor Guild’s chief Shekhar Gupta declared the quantum of sentence to all the seven accused leaving many people in confusion. In one of its reports, which is now edited, the Print proclaimed the judgement even before the honourable court did.

In a report, it claimed that all the seven accused in Kathua rape and murder case were sentenced to life imprisonment. The Print has also disregarded facts by claiming that all the seven have been sentenced to life imprisonment despite the fact that only six accused have been convicted in the case. Main accused Sanjhi Ram’s son Vishal Jangotra was acquitted by the court.

The court is yet to deliver the sentence and has scheduled to do so at 2 PM this afternoon.

The Print report which announces the quantum of sentence to the convicts in Kathua rape case even before the courts.

It is rather interesting to know whether the Print report which declared the judgement prior to the courts was just a routine editorial oversight or was it a case of them just letting the cat out of their bag by declaring a piece of information sourced from deep within the judiciary.

As their blunder was caught again, the Print team was quick enough to edit some information in the article with omitting out the ‘quantum of the sentence’ information from their earlier report.

“This report has been updated to correct the number of accused held guilty. It also incorrectly stated that the accused were sentenced to life term. The error is regretted,” stated the Print in its edited article.

AltNews co-founder tried to discredit OpIndia’s report on Vishal Jangotra being framed, netizens remind him of his propaganda

The Kathua verdict is out and the Special Court in Pathankot has convicted six persons and Vishal Jangotra, son of the main accused is acquitted. The sentence will be pronounced later in the day today. In May last year, OpIndia had reported how the fresh details which had emerged in the gruesome Kathua rape and murder case revealed that Jangotra was actually present in Muzaffarnagar on the day and at a time when the police charge sheet accuses him to be present in Kathua.

Vishal’s family had been claiming since the beginning of the case that the crime branch investigations are botched up and Vishal was never present during the crime period. This threw a shadow of doubt on the charge sheet filed by the Jammu crime branch team which was already under scrutiny as many reports claimed that it contained factual discrepancies.

However, co-founder of self-proclaimed fact-checker website AltNews, which recently whitewashed crimes of Aslam, a prime accused in the murder and probable rape of a three-year-old Tina (name changed) in Aligarh, was very quick to dismiss and discredit OpIndia’s reportage.

He juxtaposed OpIndia’s report on Vishal next to an opinion piece by OpIndia Editor Nupur J Sharma where she had exposed the hypocrisy of the Leftists on feminism and how they ‘protect’ one of their own when it comes to allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation. Zubair had tried to imply how OpIndia was trying to ‘protect’ Jangotra by writing a report questioning Jammu Crime Branch’s charge-sheet which had glaring loopholes.

Now that Jangotra has been acquitted by the Special Court, netizens took to Twitter to remind the co-founder of ‘fact-checking’ website of his own propaganda and hypocrisy.

Twitterati even reminded him how he had pronounced judgement even before the trial.

Twitter users even asked him to fact-check himself before he issues judgements onto others.

This is not the first time AltNews co-founder has been found sharing information on social media which is factually incorrect. Following the ghastly terror attack in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday by radical Islamists, he was found shielding the Islamists. Oh, and AltNews did not fact-check their own co-founder on the Sri Lanka bombings tweets.

That’s AltNews for you.

BJP was in opposition for decades, but BJP supporters always cheered for India

Yesterday, I found this screenshot doing the rounds on Twitter.

Untitled.png

If you have been on social media, you would know that such sentiments are not uncommon. The above is just an example of a much larger phenomenon. Nothing personal.

“Warmongering” Indian cricket team? Seriously? It is clear that such people have active imaginations are out of a touch of reality. Surely, this is a symptom that they are deeply disturbed and unhappy on the inside. This hatred, where is it coming from?

The elite liberal consensus has always had contempt for common Indians. Narendra Modi became the focal point of their hatred. And as his political star shone brighter and brighter, liberals were driven further and further over the edge.

They went from hating Modi to hating Hindus to hating India.

With the General Election victory, the BJP is set to get a hold of the establishment (which is different from holding power). As the BJP enters its second successive term in office with a full majority of its own, there is real worry that BJP supporters might slowly become the very thing they despise. They might become like liberals.

It is to address such worries that one must identify fundamental differences between BJP supporters and the elite liberals who ruled before them.

The simplest test lies in how BJP supporters see the country. The BJP was out cold and in the opposition for decades, but do you know of one BJP supporter who wanted India to lose a cricket match to Pakistan because of that?

You might ask: what does BJP being in power have to do with cheering for India in cricket? You would be right. It’s always natural to support one’s country in the international sporting arena. It comes automatically to everyone.

Except we are finding out now that it is not natural and it does not apply to everybody. It is possible to hate the ruling party so much that you cannot even tolerate the idea of the Indian team winning a cricket game.

Remember this?

Untitled.png

Remember how ‘intellectual’ Ashis Nandy was worried that India winning the World Cup might intensify nationalism in India?

Do you remember a BJP supporter thinking this way in all the decades that the BJP was out of power?

Therein lies the difference.

Let’s take something much more serious than cricket. Who remembers the Pathankot terrorist attack in 2015? It was the first major terror attack during PM Modi’s tenure outside of Jammu and Kashmir. As the nation went into mourning, a certain group of liberals appeared thrilled, because they hoped Modi would lose face.

The pattern continued after the terror attack in Uri, in which 19 of our jawans lost their lives. Ironically, the ‘celebrations’ on the left ended abruptly after the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control. After that, liberals became eager mouthpieces for enemy propaganda, giving strength to every rumour floated by the Pakistani side to cast doubt on the strikes.

But what really brought out the worst of Indian ‘liberalism’ was their response to Pulwama. Supposedly respectable liberals from many walks of life; public intellectuals, journalists working for top media houses, executives of MNCs, students, etc came forward with some of the most despicable views ever. Some equated the actions of the Indian Army in Kashmir with those of terrorists. Other spread lies about Indian Army raping and murdering innocent people. Some of them went all the way and openly celebrated the Pulwama attack by saying “How’s the Jaish?”

Do you remember any BJP supporter ever speaking about the 26/11 attacks like that?

But in the aftermath of Pulwama, liberals went low. Very low. One media outlet actually boasted a report in which they described how they had called up the grieving relatives of the dead to find out the caste of the fallen soldiers! Because, you know, elections were coming. And liberals knew that only caste consolidation could stop Modi. So, if you lost your loved ones to a terrorist attack, you can expect a call from a liberal journalist asking they belonged to one of the castes that the opposition has identified as politically useful for votebank purposes.

It’s hard to go lower than that.

Again, our response to terror should be something that is above our domestic party politics. When 44 of our jawans are killed by terrorists, we are all on Team India.

Shockingly, not everyone feels the same way.

Perhaps it goes to the heart of how the two sides see the nation. Perhaps for liberals, the country is worth only what they can pillage, plunder and strip mine it for. When India stops being the hen that lays golden eggs for them, does India become a thorn in their flesh?

Be it on the battlefield or the cricket field.

You might have noticed that the usual suspects are somewhat muted during this World Cup. I doubt that they have changed their mind. More likely they realize that standing with the Tukde Tukde gang was a PR disaster of epic proportions for them. And they don’t want to be seen going down that way again. It’s not good for their business… err…I mean their politics.

For BJP supporters, I will say this: there is never a perfect world. Power brings with it many vices. But as long as you remember that the nation is above everything else, you’ll do just fine.

Rahul Gandhi won Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency because it has 40% Muslim population: Asaduddin Owaisi

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has said something that was suspected by many people, that Congress president Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala because it has a high Muslim population.

Addressing a public rally on Sunday, Owaisi said, “the Congress leader himself lost in Amethi & received victory in Wayanad. Isn’t the 40% population of Wayanad Muslim?”, indicating that according to him Muslims in Wayanad voted for Rahul Gandhi.

Owaisi also slammed the Muslim community for depending on the Congress party to contain BJP in the elections. He said, “You don’t want to leave Congress and other secular parties. But remember they don’t have strength”. He said that BJP lost in Punjab because Sikhs are a majority there, and the ruling party lost in Southern states due to regional parties, and the Congress had no role in the defeat of BJP in those states.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRfjeevHxkA]

He said that Muslims don’t want alms, saying ‘we don’t want to survive on your alms’. He asked the Muslims to come out of the misconception that the Congress party will be able to do something.

Anticipating a loss in family bastion Amethi, Rahul Gandhi has contested the Lok Sabha election from a second seat, Wayanad in Kerala. It was widely speculated that the party has considered this seat to be safe due to its high minority population. But the Congress party had denied that Wayanad was chosen due to its high minority population. Proving all estimates correct, the Congress president lost Amethi to Smriti Irani but won from Wayanad.

As Yuvraj Singh announces retirement, here are 5 of his greatest One Day Internationals’ knocks

One of India’s best ever One Day Internationals batsman Yuvraj Singh has finally called time on his cricketing career and announced his retirement. During his nearly 2 decades long international career, Yuvraj Singh entertained us with some breath-taking stroke-play and several match-defining performances. Here is a look back at 5 of his finest.

84 against Australia (Nairobi 2000)

Talk about announcing yourself with a bang. In his 2nd One Day International and the first ever innings, Yuvraj Singh gave a glimpse of his abundant talent against the World Champions Australia. Against an attack featuring the likes of McGrath, Brett Lee, Gillespie, the teenaged Yuvraj stroked a majestic 84 off 80 balls setting up a match-winning total in the end.

139 against Australia (Sydney 2004)

Coming in to bat with the team in a little bit of trouble at 80 for 3, Yuvraj Singh sat about rebuilding the innings in the company of Australia’s familiar foe, VVS Laxman. The pair put together 213 runs with Yuvi scoring 139 of them. After keeping the scoreboard ticking over with plenty of good running and some timely boundaries, he exploded at the end taking ODI specialist Ian Harvey to the cleaners. It didn’t turn out to be enough in the end with Australia edging to a win in a nerve-wracking rain curtailed chase but everyone who watched that match will always remember Yuvraj’s effort.

57* against Australia (Ahmedabad 2011)

3 in a row against Australia! A little surprising since he doesn’t have a great overall record against them but as seen here, he has played some memorable innings. It was Yuvraj Singh’s World Cup in 2011, despite fighting cancer at that point, he was unstoppable with both bat and ball. His best performance of the World Cup came in the Quarter Finals against the team that had won the previous 3 World Cups. Batting first, Australia put on a good total of 260 with Ricky Ponting getting a much-awaited hundred. Yuvraj, who had already done well with the ball by picking up 2 wickets in his 10 overs, produced a mature half century guiding the team through a tricky second half of the chase. The cathartic roar from Yuvraj at the end of that knock mirrored the emotions of an entire nation.

150 against England (Cuttack 2017)

After returning from cancer, Yuvraj’s career could never quite regain the previous heights but still, there were glimpses of the batsman he was at his peak. In the 2017 ODI series against England, India was tottering at 25/3 when Yuvraj joined his long-time middle order partner MS Dhoni. What followed was some of the best ball striking one would ever see on a cricketing field. Yuvraj raced to his highest ever ODI score and by the time he was eventually dismissed, he had already set the side on the way to a match-winning total. This turned out to be the last century for the great man in ODIs.

69 against England (Lord’s 2002)

Every Indian fan remembers the score 146/5, it was the score at which Mohammed Kaif joined Yuvraj Singh in the middle while chase 326 in the Natwest final and the two went on to script one of the greatest ever triumphs in Indian ODI history. With all hope lost, all the senior batsmen back in the pavilion, and a high asking rate, Yuvraj set about bringing the side back into the game with his trademark drives, pulls and flicks. By the time he was out 121 runs partnership later, the chase was well and truly back on, and it was finished by Kaif and Zaheer Khan for a famous victory.

After police barred funeral procession of party workers killed in political clashes, BJP observes ‘black day’ in West Bengal

Amidst the continued political unrest in West Bengal, BJP has decided to observe a ‘black day’ across the state on Monday. The party has also called a 12-hour general strike in the Basirhat sub-division on Monday and a ‘condemnation march’ to the Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar on June 12.

This decision came in the aftermath of the face-off which ensued between the BJP and West Bengal Police in North 24 Parganas district over the weekend.

The BJP workers were reportedly prevented by the police from holding the funeral of its workers, killed in political clashes on Saturday, on a highway near Kolkata.

Saturday evening, clashes had erupted between the BJP and TMC in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali area in North 24 Parganas district, over the removal of party flags, which left workers of both parties killed and several others injured.

According to sources in the BJP, a total of five party workers have been killed in the clashes and several others are seriously injured.

Tension prevailed on Sunday in strife-affected Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas, with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress accusing each other of orchestrating Saturday’s violence.

A BJP delegation visiting the area decided to take bodies of the two party workers to Kolkata for last rites. But the convoy was stopped thrice by police, claiming it may cause law and order issues in the state capital.

Reacting strongly to the autocracy in Mamata’s regime, BJP’ national secretary Rahul Sinha said, the family members of the deceased have decided to perform last rites in Kolkata. How can the police stop them? It is their duty to stop murderers and criminals and not the dead,” lambasted Sinha furthering, “I told them there will be no rallies in Kolkata. They (bodies) will just be kept at the BJP headquarters to let people pay their last respects. Still, police are stopping us.”

Later, Sinha took to Twitter to express his concern over democracy being strangulated in the state.

Reacting to the faceoff between BJP workers and security forces in Bengal, party general secretary Rahul Sinha also said, “I have spoken to Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi, who has assured me that he will speak to senior officials. Police couldn’t prevent the murders and are now stopping us from cremating the bodies.” He also said that they were ready to proceed to the party office even in a police cordon. “We are also ready to proceed further under police cordon. What kind of rule is this? Democracy is being strangulated in this state,” said Rahul Sinha.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee accused the police personnel of working for the Trinamool Congress. “This is unethical. Police cannot stop us legally. If needed we will carry the bodies to Kolkata on our shoulders,” she said.

Moreover, taking note of the unfaltering political violence in Bengal, the Ministry of Home Affairs has sent an advisory to the West Bengal government and asked the Mamata Banerjee-led government to maintain law and order, peace and public tranquillity.

“The unabated violence over the past weeks appears to be a failure on the part of the law enforcement machinery of the state to maintain the rule of law and inspire confidence among people,” the advisory said.

However, the TMC reacted strongly to the advisory saying it is nothing but a “political conspiracy”.

“The so-called advisory from MHA to the West Bengal government on the law enforcement machinery in the state is nothing but a political conspiracy. We will respond appropriately,” TMC MP Derek O’Brien said.

Video: Mauka Mauka is back again, this time as baap of all ads

Star Sports has released the most awaited promo of the World Cup. The ‘Mauka-Mauka’ ad for the India-Pakistan match was a sensation in the last World Cup. They have come now with another ad based on the same theme.

India will face Pakistan in World Cup on June 16 at The Old Trafford. Star Sports promo mixed ‘Mauka Mauka‘ with Father’s Day theme. The Father Day of 2019 is on the same day as the India-Pakistan.

Vikas Malhotra plays the Pakistan son remembering his father’s words on how one should keep trying and never give up. The Indian fan in the ad shows some savagery by taking a dig on the Pakistani supporter.

Though the ad is a hit among most of the Indian fans but some section of the cricket fraternity has called it a disgrace already. In one tweet, a senior sports journalist from Kolkata and currently work with Cricbuzz, says that the ad has crossed the norms of good taste.

India has never lost a game against Pakistan in the World Cup. They played against each other six times already. India also not lost a match against Pakistan in World T20. They met four times in World T20, and Pakistan lost all four times.

So will be it another win for India on June 16? Or will Pakistan finally taste the victory against India in a World Cup clash?
