Beaten, confined and starved by husband, Triple Talaq victim dies under treatment

Raziya, a victim of triple-talaq who was allegedly beaten and starved by her husband for over a month, had died on her way to a Lucknow hospital yesterday. According to reports, Raziya had been hospitalised in a district for many days but breathed her last on Monday.

According to reports, Raziya, a resident of Bareilly in UP, had married one Naeem in 2005. She has a 6-year-old son too. She was reportedly being abused and beaten by her husband regularly. Over two months ago, Naeem had given Triple talaq to Raziya over the phone from Delhi. When Raziya did not leave even after Triple talaq, Naeem allegedly had got aggressive and had beaten her mercilessly. Raziya had been confined in a room by Naeem for nearly a month without food.

According to reports, when Raziya’s family members arrived at Naeem’s house to rescue her, her condition had deteriorated severely and she resembled a skeleton and was even unable to speak. Raziya was admitted to the district hospital and was being treated there for nearly a month. She had been referred to a hospital to Lucknow and reportedly died while being taken there.

An NGO named Mera Haq, headed by Farhat Naqvi was reportedly helping Razia out for her treatment. Razia had reportedly stated that even her son Anas was being starved by Naeem and his family members. Ms Naqvi has reportedly stated that Naeem had married before and he had tortured his first wife too.

The central government had passed a bill criminalising Triple talaq recently. Even after criminalisation of the instant talaq practice, there are numerous instanced being reported where women are being given triple-talaq on a whim. A woman in Bareily was given triple talaq for demanding her daughter to be admitted to a school.

Pakistan’s first Sikh police officer forcibly evicted from his house by police, turban removed

Gulab Singh, a Sikh police officer in Pakistan was reportedly thrashed, disrespected and forcibly evicted from his house in Lahore’s Dera Chahal. According to reports, Gulab Singh is Pakistan’s first police officer. In a video, he is seen pleading with Pakistani authorities to give him at least 10 minutes time. He says that his family has been living in that house since 1947. He states that he was given no notice to evacuate his house.

In another video by ANI, Gulab Singh states that he was thrashed and manhandled by the local police and Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB). He is seen saying that his turban was opened and his religious rights were violated. Gulab Singh was reportedly thrown out of his house with his wife and 3 children.

Gulab Singh alleges that he is being targetted and harassed. He had filed a case in 2011 against Syed Asif Akhtar Hashmi, the former chairman of ETPB for illegally selling off land that belonged to Gurdwara. In February 2018, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had reportedly held Hashmi guilty of illegally selling Gurdwara properties.

Gulab Singh alleges that Pakistan’s treatment of its minorities is deplorable and he is being specifically targetted.

It is notable here that Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan have been constantly targeted by the authorities. Last month Sikh human rights activist Charanjeet Singh was gunned down near his residence in Peshawar. There have also been instances of Hindus being harassed and humiliated in the Islamic country. Hundreds of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains from Pakistan have left the country have been living in India. The government of India is in a process to grant them citizenship status.

Congress terms Law Commission’s proposed simultaneous election plan as unconstitutional

We had earlier reported that many parties such as Samajwadi Party and Telangana Rashtra Samithi have given positive feedback to the Law Commission’s proposal of holding Lok Sabha elections and state assembly elections simultaneously in what according to the Commission should be two-phase elections.

Recently, BJD and YSR Congress both met the commission and extended their support for the proposed disposition made by the commission.

The Congress chose to stay away from the Law Commission’s deliberations. Senior party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi held a press conference on the subject and while interacting with reporters Singhvi stated that the commission’s proposal goes against the grain of democracy, and hits at the core of democracy.

Singhvi also commented on the Prime Minister’s argument in favour of ‘one nation, one election’ policy, that it would cost lesser money if elections at the centre and state levels are held simultaneously. Singhvi tried to debunk the Prime minister’s argument by pointing out the publicity expense of the Central government in the last four years is more than the entire cost incurred in conducting all elections.

With the entire country being sucked into the election cycle every few months, one would think that Congress too would be on board with the proposal to hold simultaneous elections. However, with the downward swing in their electoral fortunes, perhaps the Congress thinks that simultaneous elections would further hurt their chances of an electoral victory.

Twitter user followed by Nidhi Razdan and Congress spokesperson spreads fake news about Mumbai floods

While Mumbai is reeling under the pressure of intense flooding, a twitter user @iScrew who goes under the twitter name “TheAgeOfBananas”, decided to add further intensity to the matter by claiming that the Mumbai airport too has been completely flooded.

The user who has about 7,200 followers is pretty famous with the predominantly leftist crowd and is followed by personalities like controversial journalist Nidhi Razdan and Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi:

Twitter user followed by Nidhi Razdan and Congress spokesperson spreads fake news about Mumbai floods
Followers of “Age of Bananas”

This was the tweet put out by “age of bananas”:

Twitter user followed by Nidhi Razdan and Congress spokesperson spreads fake news about Mumbai floods
Tweet claiming flooding of Mumbai airport

In the tweet above, the Banana guy claimed that Mumbai airport had been totally transformed into a sailing port and proceeded to blame PM Modi for it. This was the corresponding video contained in the tweet:

Under this video, a raincoat clad groundsman is seen standing in a flooded airport, while a car is cutting through the waterlogged water. As depicted by “age of bananas”, the scene  correctly reminded of a seaplane harbour.

After this tweet, various twitter users like @attomeybharti noticed disparity in the claims made by the said:

Following an investigation, he indeed found that the video was from a flooding which occurred in Mexico City international airport in 2017, and not the Mumbai airport as claimed by the “age of bananas”:

After the lie was caught, “Age of bananas” proceeded to delete his tweet and claimed that it was an inadvertent error. The user also alleged that he/she was threatened during the episode but put up a brave face to claim that he/she won’t be bogged down by intimidation.

Incidentally it isn’t the only time Indian airports have been maligned about not being able to manage heavy rains. We had reported how the PTI had spread a fake news when it used images of a flooded Chennai airport to claim that the Ahmedabad airport had become completely waterlogged.

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘women empowerment’ punch line proves hollow when he appoints a misogynist as AICC secretary

Congress president Rahul Gandhi appointed MP Govind Singh Rajput as AICC secretary on the 7th of this month, raising a lot of questions and doubts on the Congress party’s integrity.

‘Women empowerment’ is the Congress parties most preferred gizmo, used habitually to score self-goals. Though this being the party supremo’s favourite card, he very often chooses to be oblivious when it comes to his own party members going against the parties so-called ethics.

Not long back, in December 2017, Congress leader from Madhya Pradesh, Govind Singh Rajput, the newly appointed AICC secretary, had made a derogatory and rather objectional statement against BJP women legislator Parul Sahu. Rajput had termed Sahu whose father is a big liquor trader the “liquor legislator”, and had taken a dig on her by saying “Daru jitni purani ho jayen utni acchi lagti hain” (older the liquor better it becomes).

Clearly, the Congress ‘Mr. Righteous’, Rahul Gandhi, who’s always zealous to speak up for women rights, chose to ignore this despicable conduct and went on to appoint Rajput as the AICC secretary.

Alarmed at this development the ‘rebel Congress leader Shehzad Poonawallah released a video of this said AICC Secretary raising questions at Rahul Gandhi, the party president and Priyanka Chaturvedi who is the National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress.

In this video posted by Shehzad on Twitter, Govind Singh, while addressing the public in a rally, is clearly heard taking a dig at Parul Sahu, calling her ‘old wine’.

Govind Singh has also posted pictures where it is evident that he is close to the highest echelons of the party.

In fact, his profile picture on Twitter is one of him with Rahul Gandhi himself.

It is disquieting that being a woman herself, and hailing from a party who at least pretends to always stand up for women rights, Priyanka Chaturvedi too has been completely non-responsive on this issue and moreover has taken a step forward and rewarded people who have shown disrespect to women which has, however, become a culture in Indian Politics.

The narrative here is simple. Rahul and his party’s talk of respecting women seem hollow considering they are willing to elevate and promote people who would say such nasty things about women.

JNU administration bars office bearers of JNU Students’ Union from attending Academic Council meeting

According to a report, the Jawaharlal Nehru University administration has banned the controversial JNU Students’ Union office-bearers from attending any Academic Council meeting. The meeting, which is scheduled to be held on July 13 will be held without a representative from any students’ union.

Reportedly, the decision to bar the office bearers of the students’ union was taken as a result of a pending inquiry to be conducted against the union for creating disruptions and chaos in the meetings held in the past.

The letter has been addressed to the JNUSU president Geeta Kumari and it says, “I am directed to inform you that the representatives of the Students’ Union have not been invited to the forthcoming meeting of the Academic Council, to be held on July 13, as special invitees due to a pending proctorial inquiry against them for creating disruptions by marching up to the dais and using abusive language against the Vice-Chancellor.”

Interestingly, in the last meeting held on May, 33 members from both students’ and teachers’ union stated that they were not allowed to express their views. The JNU Teachers’ Association (JNUTU) had alleged that the meeting was “conducted by means of open suppression of dissent”.

However, Geeta Kumari has denied receiving any letter from the administration regarding the pending inquiry against the office bearers of the students’ union. The JNUSU claims that the inquiry is baseless and termed the action to keep them out of the academic council meeting as ‘blatant disregard for conducting the affairs of the university’.

It seems that students from the JNUSU have a tradition of raising strong objections and being remarkably intolerant to the ideas they do not endorse. Earlier, the JNUSU has strongly objected to the Academic Council of the University passing a proposal which looks to set up a centre for National Security that would include a course on ‘Islamic Terrorism’.

Recently, Some office bearers of the leftist students’ union (JNUSU) have been held guilty of contempt of court by the Delhi High Court.

Delhi school locks kindergarten girls in basement for hours due to alleged delay in fee payment

A private school located in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk has been accused of locking 16 kindergarten girls in a basement for five hours after their parents allegedly failed to pay the fees on time, The Hindu has reported.

The incident was reported from the Rabea Girls Public School on Monday, where the girls were finally rescued by their parents after being confined for five gruelling hours. Following the rescue, about 50 parents staged protests in front of the school and later filed a police complaint.

As per a parent named Fatima, when they went to collect their kids, they found they were missing from the classroom. When they questioned the school authorities, they were told that the girls were locked in the school basement for failing to pay the school fees.

Fatima thus claimed that after rushing to the basement they found the girls crying, following which they were rescued.

Another parent named Mohammad Asif claimed that he had dropped his daughter to school at 7 AM and went back to pick her up at 12:30 PM when he discovered their confinement in the basement. He also claimed that the girls were kept under inhuman conditions as the basement lacked fans and ventilation. It has even been claimed that the girls were found hungry and thirsty by the parents.

Hindustan Times has reported that as a result of the complaint, the Hauz Khaas police has filed a case under section 342 for wrongful confinement and section 75 of the juvenile justice act for cruelty to a child.

With regards to fee payment, parents have disputed the school’s claims by asserting that they have already paid the fees till September. This led to many parents producing the school fee receipts to prove the school wrong.

A DNA report even claims that the headmaster Farah Diba Khan misbehaved with the parents when they talked to her about the matter. When the parents showed the principle the proof that they had indeed paid their fees, she failed to express any remorse, a Deccan Chronicle report has claimed.

In the school’s defence, the principle has denied the confinement and claimed that the basement is actually an activity room for the students to play. With regards to the fee payment fiasco, a teacher was quoted as claiming that a confusion was created over the administration not informing them about the fee payment. The teacher also claimed that the parents didn’t give them a “teachers copy” of the receipt, which was part of the problem.

Shah Faesal to face departmental inquiry after his tweet that called India ‘Rapistan’

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to initiate a departmental inquiry against IAS officer Shah Faesal. It is said that the Union government has decided to penalize him for a tweet allegedly mocking the nation over recent rapes occurred in the country.

Earlier in April, Shah Faesal had tweeted about the rape culture in India and allegedly referred it to as Rapistan.

The Departmental inquiry has been initiated against the officer for the tweet, which seems to defame the country. It has said that the ‘officer has failed to maintain absolute honesty and integrity in discharging his duties’.

Faesal reacted to this by posting another tweet, calling it as a ‘love letter from the boss’. He said that the rules are of colonial spirit, and also of the view that there was a need for changing these rules. “The Irony here is that service rules with a colonial spirit are invoked in a democratic India to stifle the freedom of conscience. I’m sharing this to underscore the need for a rule change,” he said.

In his tweet, Faisal has attached copies of the letter issued by the Jammu and Kashmir government initiating action against him while calling the order “a love letter from boss”.

The letter says that the central government has asked the J&K government to start an inquiry into the conduct of the IAS officer and that the officer has allegedly failed to maintain absolute honesty and integrity and thus acted in a manner unbecoming of a public servant”. The letter also said that “the department of personnel and training, Government of India, a copy of communication along with its enclosures, in which several references have been made by you in which contents are prima facie in contravention of the extant provisions of all India services (service rules).”

Shah Faesal said that the ban on their freedom of speech and expression is totally unacceptable. Faesal is currently on a long leave to pursue a fellowship in the United States.

After Faesal’s tweet, many on Social Media too reacted to his earlier tweet calling India “rapistan” and the subsequent inquiry ordered by the government.

Some questioned Faesal’s claims that the tweet was “sarcastic”. They asserted that either his statement was about “freedom of conscience”, or if it was sarcasm and “humour” it meant that he was trivializing and politicising rape.

Some pointed out that Faesal has been breaking service rules for a while and it was about time he was held accountable.

It was also pointed out how the defence of Faesal is rather misplaced.

Many usual suspects also came out in defence of Shah Faesal. Among them, was NC Chief and Ex-Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah.

Omar Abdullah also chose to defend Faesal saying that his tweet was “sarcastic” in nature. Though, many have questioned how calling one’s own country “rapistan” could be sarcastic.

It is evident that calling India ‘Rapistan’ was indeed against service rules. However, what action would be taken remains to be seen.

Indian Railways to introduce Shri Ramayana Express, tracing Lord Ram’s epic journey

The Indian Railways is set to introduce the Sri Ramayana Express, a dedicated train service that will cover all the major locations mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana. The train service will take tourists on a journey tracing Lord Ram’s journey from Ayodhya to Sri Lanka via Rameshwaram.

According to reports, the special Ramayana Express will take 16 days to cover the Ramayana circuit. The Ramayana circuit is a project developed by the Tourism Ministry of India which will develop all major places related to the epic Ramayana where Lord Ram is believed to have spent time with his wife Sita and brother Laxman. The Ramayana Express service by Indian Railways will offer pilgrims tour packages starting from Rs 15,120 per person. The tour package will reportedly include meals, lodging and bus facilities from Railway stations to the pilgrimage sites.

The tour will be reportedly managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and will be flagged off from the Safdarjung railway station in New Delhi on November 14. The train will be equipped to carry 800 passengers. Making its first stop at Ram’s birthplace Ayodhya, the train will cover major locations like Nandigram, Sitamarhi, Janakpur, Varanasi, Prayag, Chitrakoot, Shringaverpur, Nasik, Hampi and finally Rameshwaram.

After visiting Rameshwaram, interested persons will be able to take a flight from Chennai to Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo, where they will be visiting Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ramboda. Online bookings for the tour are expected to be available on IRCTC website shortly.

The Ramayana circuit is one of the 13 circuits being developed by the government of India under the Swadesh Darshan scheme. Krishna circuit, Buddha circuit and spiritual circuit are the other circuits in the scheme. The Modi government has been hailing religious tourism as a major source of revenue generation with the potential to attract millions of Indian and foreign tourists.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been pivotal in the development of the Ramayana circuit. He has sanctioned numerous projects to develop infrastructure in Ayodhya and other religious sites with an aim to attract national and international tourists. The government of India has entered into several agreements with Nepal to develop the Ramayana and the Buddhist circuits. PM Modi, in his recent visit to Nepal, had flagged off a bus service from Janakpur to Ayodhya, connecting the birthplaces of Sita and Ram.

The Leftists need to stop denying the ‘Urban Naxal’ phenomenon

0

It is always very exciting when you see left-liberals toss aside warnings meant in good faith and very often, national interest.

Vivek Agnihotri recently coined the phrase “Urban Naxals” referring to the intentional or unintentional messengers of the Maoist propaganda. Yet, with very little consideration to the heaps of evidence witnessed by the nation, many liberals were more than happy to jump the gun and rubbish the seriousness behind the claims.

An article in ThePrint says: “The vague ‘Urban Naxal’ was invented to avoid difficult questions on Modi’s vikaas”. While I absolutely oppose the sly way in which she downplays the issue, it is interesting to the way she backs that claim.

All the article does is provide the reader with the uni-dimensional notion, that all the declared “Urban Naxals” have a “common thread” of criticising the government. Firstly, criticism is not what leads to such a tag. I do realise that there are various anonymous handles on social media, merely throwing about the phrase wherever they please and that is of course wrong. What is upsetting though, is to see many left-liberals, using this as a way to discredit the perfectly sound movement of Urban-Naxalism: a movement that was undeniably ignored for a long, long time.

And let me also say, that what does lead to being called an ‘Urban-Naxal’, is following the prescribed path of carrying out
“revolutionary propaganda”. And the point at which one crosses that line of criticism to adhere to their ulterior motives, is the point at which the critical questions will occur.

Secondly, it is amusing to see how the article provides not a shred of evidence to back up the rather gutted declaration of all this just being a farce. It does not even want to provide the reader with a single acknowledgement of the fact that letters, manifestos, insider perspectives, and many such documented pieces of evidence have been put out, in proof of a dangerous conspiracy. When the purpose is to come up with obscure theories (like this being a way to “counter Vikaas questions”), to disrupt the voices highlighting a real danger, Miss Kaur must at least put up a fight!

As a matter of fact, this is not the first time the left has tossed aside appropriate tags and their respective insinuations. Back in 2016, when there were some vile protests in JNU, many of the protests (for which a ‘student’ was even expelled, as directed by the court) were termed as “sedition” and “anti-national”. When one raises slogans to break up the country into pieces and are aimed at perhaps starting a movement to do so, they can absolutely be termed seditious and anti-national. When slogans are raised supporting a terrorist who wanted to break up India and kill its civilians, it can very well be termed seditious and anti-national.

But till date, discourse on the left, sees these two terms being thrown about so randomly and trivially, that, in real cases of sedition or anti-national activities, the terms lose their importance. This is done to trivialize the intention to break the country up. More importantly, when one calls another act as say, anti-national, s/he is not taken seriously because of the terms being belittled in our discourse.

In the case of “Urban Naxals”, it is not surprising to see people like Dhruv Rathee brush it away, or a Kavita Krishnan use “#UrbanNazi” hashtags, or even sites like ThePrint and Scroll, pussyfoot the toxicity of those seeking an armed revolution: all of these, being attempts to undermine the vicious conspiracies that are realities in today’s India.

It is also extremely important for us to get an insight the real manifesto of Maoists in India. This is important not only because we realise how nonsensical, the suggestions of the cabal are, when they suggest that this is a means to crush dissent, but also because it shows us the methodical process by which the values of this country are to be broken, as the “utopian revolution” takes precedence in India.

The first question is, do they even have the need to exist in the urban areas?

While it is apparent that somebody like Kavita Krishnan would be happy to deny it and say that this is just to “crush dissent”, the official ‘rulebook’ of the Maoists gives them three objectives or reasons to carry out urban work (picture below). Therefore, their fundamental premise of this just being a way to “crush dissent” ceases to pass the smell test.

CPI (Maoist) Urban Perspective – Our Work in Urban Areas

It is worth noting that, to the Urban Maoist, the target audience for revolutionary propaganda includes “students, middle-class employees, intellectuals, etc.”. They apparently have to deal with the problems of “special social groups like women, Dalits and religious minorities” only to “mobilise them for revolutionary movement” that stands against “Hindu fascism”. This is also reiterated as the “fundamental and primary task”, that matters more than everything else.

And so, is it really a surprise that the women, Dalits, minorities and so on, are the groups that are targeted the most in today’s discourse, to the hypocritical degree of ignoring the pains of other segments in society? It is, therefore, fairly obvious that the concept of an ‘Urban-Maoist’ is no “invention to avoid questions on vikaas”.

Let us, then, take this a step forward, to look at how the Urban Naxal is told to operate. Considering that their primary aim is to organise masses, they suggest different forms in which they approach the people for mobilisation.

Screen Shot 2018-07-09 at 3.06.22 PM.jpg

The manifesto goes into great depth when addressing every type of mass organisation. But for a basic idea on what each one’s role is, below are:

1) Secret revolutionary mass organisations: “These organizations remain strictly underground and propagate the Party’s revolutionary line among the masses rousing them for armed struggle… In urban areas these secret organizations perform the important task of propagating the Party line among various sections of the masses. They are the main vehicles of revolutionary propaganda.”

2) Open revolutionary mass organisations: “They openly propagate the politics of New Democratic Revolution and prepare the people for armed struggle. These organizations make use of the available legal opportunities to carry on revolutionary propaganda and agitation openly and try to mobilize anti-imperialist, anti-feudal forces as widely as possible… As is clear from experience, this form of organization can only be used when the ruling classes, due to various reasons cannot or do not bring repression”

3) Legal Democratic Organisations: “These are the organizations formed on an explicit political basis with some or all aspects of an anti-imperialist, anti-feudal programme, and with a programme of action and forms of struggle that broadly fall within a legal framework… Actually thelegal democratic organizations serve as important means to the Party’s attempts at the political mobilization of the urban masses. This is because repression normally prevents the open revolutionary mass organizations from functioning. The legal democratic movement is thus the arena where the masses can participate in thousands and lakhs and gain political experience.”

Furthermore, in terms of party building, the Maoist ‘Urban Perspective’ suggests two ways- one more indoctrinating than the other-

a) Activist Groups: “The main basis for selection into the activist group is activity. All activist group members should be regular or prepared to be regular, in activity. Other criteria are broad sympathy to revolutionary politics and steadfastness to the cause and interests of the section of the masses who are being organized… An activist group is a transitory form of organization. Its purpose is to facilitate the consolidation of the advanced sections of the masses and build them into the vanguard. If it is conducted in a systematic and planned manner it can play a crucial role in the Party-building process.

b) Political Education: “Political education tasks in the city cannot be fulfilled without the active intervention of the higher committees. Courses, methods of conducting schools and taking classes, tech methods, training of teachers, plans for education at different levels – all require the personal attention of the higher committee members… A well planned decentralized political education system, with sufficient teachers and regular follow-up from the committee, is what every urban area requires.”

The Maoist manifesto is not something that is limited to one book. It is a dangerous ideology that is taking over the biggest cities in our country. If a person is adamant enough to deny this fact, the way in which various conspiracies and plots, have fallen in line with their written doctrines, speaks for itself. And if people like Kavita Krishnan and Harnidh Kaur, despite all these facts, refuse to accept the presence of “Urban Naxals” today, I would either assume that they are upholding the secrecy, prescribed in Maoist manifestos, or that they are far too naïve, to indulge in socio-political discourse.
