Congress spokie Priyanka Chaturvedi wishes Ram Navami on Mahanavami

0

If you thought Rahul Gandhi goofs up only to keep his team of spokespersons busy defending him, we have some news for you. Congress social media team and spokespersons do that on a regular basis to keep themselves busy.

Earlier today, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi wished her followers for Ram Navami (which usually comes in March/April on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri) on Mahanavami, which is today (ninth day of Ashwin month).

At a time when Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is visiting temples in Gujarat to shed the anti-Hindu image of Gujarat, the party could not quite afford such goof ups. Perhaps that is why she immediately deleted the tweet. Not to let an opportunity slip by, Twitterati was quick to take screenshot to make some jokes on the goof up.

Congress supporters also sly tweeted on Priyanka Chaturvedi’s goof up.

Earlier, Chaturvedi was schooled by Twitterati for on how insurance premium vs claims work. Priyanka Chaturvedi, we wish you a very happy Maha Navmi!

Husband assaults and gives triple talaq to wife after she takes food to relative in hospital

0

Even though the Supreme Court has outlawed the draconian practice of triple talaq, some people haven’t yet decided to stop using it. Last week we had reported how a husband had give triple talaq to his wife after she stopped him from forcibly selling her land.

Now another case of triple talaq and assault has been reported from Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh. According to the report, on Monday the woman had gone to the hospital to give food to her sister-in-law who was admitted there. There, as alleged by the woman she was assaulted by her husband who then fled after giving her triple talaq.

The husband and wife named Sania and Javed have reportedly have had their differences in the past. They had a love married on 8th February 2013. Soon disagreements started to happen between them and thus the wife went back to live with her parents.

Relatives later reconciled them and they also had a child. The fights again stated and a case was also filed in the police station.

But on Monday things took turn for the worse. According to the wife her sister-in-law had delivered a baby and she had taken food for her, which angered the husband. The SP Dinesh Kumar stated that instructions have been given to launch an investigation in the matter.

Now according to follow-up reports, the police have as a result filed a case of assault and dowry harassment against the wife’s in-laws. This report claimed that the in-laws started harassing her for dowry soon after her marriage and as a result Sania had filed a case against them in June 2013. In March 2014 the case was taken back after she allegedly was pressurised to do so by relatives. The harassment reportedly started again.

Apart from her husband, a case of assault has also been filed against her brother-in-laws, her mother-in-law and father-in-law. She has also alleged that he in-laws are trying to escape punishment by making a false accusation that she and her brothers stole their (In-laws’) jewels and cash after breaking open a locker.

The matter seems to be investigated under sections 498A, 323, 504, 506, which deal with cruelty at the hands of husband or his relatives, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insults and criminal intimidation respectively.

Modi govt allocates Rs 25,000 crores to modernise Nation’s police forces in the next 3 years

0

Central government’s cabinet committee on security has reportedly cleared a Rs 25,060 crore umbrella scheme to modernise central and state police forces in the next 3 years.

80% of the total cost of this package will be borne by Centre which amounts to about Rs 18,636 crores and the rest would be paid for by the states. This Modernisation of Police Forces (MPF) program would be covering aspects like internal security, law and order, women’s security, modern weapons, mobility of police forces, logistical support, helicopter deployment.

Internal security seems to be the key target of this scheme, considering the fact that about Rs 10,132 crore have been earmarked for Jammu & Kashmir, Maoist infested areas and North Eastern states (some of which continue to grapple with insurgency).

As part of this scheme, a state of the art forensic science laboratory at Amravati in Andhra Pradesh would be set up, which might provide a boost to the case solving ability of police forces. Institutes like Sardar Patel Global Centre for Security, Counter-Terrorism and Anti-Insurgency and the Gujarat Forensic Science University would be upgraded.

According to Home Minister Rajnath Singh, this scheme would strengthen the criminal justice system by aiding investigation, prosecution of criminals. According to him, the cases registered too would be made computerised.

This MPF scheme would reportedly subsume 17 existing police and security forces schemes and would lead to the central government to proactively shoulder the modernisation, which earlier was carried out by the states.

Such an allocation by the Modi government eclipses the UPA government’s disbursement of about Rs 12,378 for a similar modernisation scheme which ran from 2012-2017.

The Modi government in the past has also signalled other ambitious modernisation schemes. It was reported at the start of this year that the government would be spending a whooping $59 billion to modernise its infrastructure like railways, roads and airports.

Even though such well intended schemes can certainly have a positive impact, the total magnitude of it, would depend on proper implementation and more importantly on the institution’s willingness to transform and set aside the decades of complacency and inefficiency which has seeped into it.

Untold story : How Modi’s demonetization and GST ruined China’s economy

0

We’ve all heard by now how the disaster of demonetization has pushed India’s economy into a tailspin. To add to the woes, there was the “hasty GST”, which started out as yet another Rajiv Gandhi dream, and then was put in place on July 1, 2017, merely 7 years after Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government set April 1, 2010 as the deadline for implementing it.

As Modi has found out the hard way, you can’t rush big things. You have to space them out like the Gareebi Hatao promise from 1971. Or the Sardar Sarovar dam, for which Nehru laid the foundation stone in 1961, but work didn’t even begin until 1987.

Among the many disasters caused by Modi, I thought I would set the record straight by writing about a topic that has been discussed very little : the adverse impact of demonetization and GST outside our borders, specifically on China.

The following event went largely unnoticed, although it came so close on the heels of Modi’s now infamous decision to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes on Nov 8, 2016.

Untitled.png

I feel it is my national duty to speak up now, albeit a few months late. Or else all Indians and Chinese will have to again see Gareebi from close quarters … something they have never done since Indira/India Gandhi removed it in 1971.

As you can see in this Bloomberg video, the exports of India’s peers have sadly been in sync with India’s, showing the depth of the pain caused by Modi’s surprise move.

Untitled.png

While China was still reeling under the impact of demonetization, the second blow came in the form of “hasty GST”. Within a few months, the mounting economic and financial risks became too much and the Chinese had to face an insulting downgrade for international rating agencies.

Untitled.png

For the Chinese, it was most likely the Modi-Xi meeting at the BRICS summit that became the straw that broke the camel’s back, leading to the downgrade.

One more ominous sign was when the difficult economic situation forced the Chinese government to abandon development projects, such as a road in Doklam.

As a result of this demonetization induced slowdown, the Chinese government has had to undertake several diversionary measures to take public attention away from the economic situation.

Untitled.png

For those who might be interested in participating, the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the CPI(M) will be organizing tonight a #NotInMyName candlelight march from JNU to Xinjiang. An eminent ex-Vice President is expected to join as well on a journey to go back to his roots.

This outrage is only the latest in a series of measures that the Chinese government has had to take to focus majority anger away from the economy towards a perceived internal enemy. When the real story, of course, is that Modi sarkar is turning a blind eye to the suffering of young job seekers.

Untitled.png

For the Chinese, the need for finding an internal enemy in Uyghur Muslims is further increased by the fact that Modi sarkar is failing both on the domestic and the international front. Pro-BJP outlets such as Global Times are now reduced to begging the Chinese public to “properly understand” disputes and remain “cool minded” when dealing with neighbors instead of reacting emotionally.

Untitled.png

Just read the dovish words… almost mocking the Chinese public for demanding a “tougher stance”, asking them to observe “patience” and “somber judgement” instead.

Compare it to the fire breathing Global Times from 2 months ago and you know how deeply the hurt of demonetization has crippled the dragon.

We must stand up NOW and demand that there be an end to this organized loot and legalized plunder by the government. For this, we have to put back in place the 97.5% top income tax rate that the wise Dr. Manmohan Singh put in place during the 70s when he was Chief Economic Adviser to the Finance Ministry. You can look around on Youtube for his remarkably prescient speech where he explained how a 97.5% income tax rate has the potential to add as much as 2% to India’s GDP growth.

I don’t want to sound too nationalist for fear of being seen as intolerant, but I must say that if you do not speak up now, you will be failing your national duty. And for what it’s worth, you will be failing your international duty as well.

Delay no more! Court orders framing of charges against Tarun Tejpal

0

A Goa court has formally given its nod for framing of charges against the former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine, Tarun Tejpal. He was accused of sexually assaulting a female colleague in the elevator of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in 2013.

The public prosecutor, Francisco Taviera said that the founder and former editor of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal pleaded not guilty to the rape charge. However, Tejpal has pleaded guilty to charges under Sections 341 and 342 (wrongful restraint) and 354 (sexual harassment) of IPC.

Tejpal will also be tried under section 376(2)F and 376(2)K of the stringent provisions of the law introduced recently, after the 2012 Delhi gangrape case.

Section 376(2)F of the law relates to a relative, guardian or teacher of, or a person in a position of trust or authority towards the woman, commits rape on such woman and Section 376(2)K of the law relates to a person who, being in a position of control or dominance over a woman, commits rape on such woman.

Tejpal was booked under 354-A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 376 (rape), 376(2)(k) IPC by the Crime Branch. Sections 341 and 342 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 376 (2)(f) (person in position of trust or authority over women, committing rape of such women), 376C (sexual intercourse by person in authority) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) were added later.

In the course of the hearing, Public prosecutor S Lotlikar had argued: “We are on a notice before the court. Charge will be framed, there is a mandate under the law that it should be completed within a stipulated time, here is a direction of the apex court that it should be concluded. It was earlier meant to be concluded in 8 months or earlier. We have now at least three years in this. There is no justification for stay of order.”

The additional and district sessions court at Mapusa will begin the hearing on November 21.

The charges were framed two days after the Bombay high court rejected Tejpal’s plea to put on hold the framing of charges till it decided a petition to drop all charges against him.

The court has summarily shut down the various delay tactics deployed by the accused. This framing of charges is also a scathing indictment of the high and mighty that came in defense of the accused, who will now face trial.

Supreme Court to fast track hearing in appeal against Kashmiri godman, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat

0

Supreme Court today accepted the appeal against acquittal of Kashmiri “Peer”, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, who is accused of raping four minor girls. Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, also known as Gulzan Peer, was acquitted by a trial court and the Jammu and Kashmir high court upheld the ruling in February 2017 which triggered outrage in the state, prompting the state to approach the apex court.

In 2013, Gulzar was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police raping and sexually abusing several young girls at his religious centre, Khansahib in Budgam district. He ran a residential institution for girls offering short term courses in religious studies and also promoted himself on local TV channels and published promotional advertisements in local newspapers.

It was alleged that he had raped as many as 500 girls under the pretext of “purifying” them. He was also accused of calling the victims separately into his room on the pretext of religious teachings at night. He would raise the volume of a tape recorder so that screams and cries of the victims were not heard.

The girls had even approached Kashmiri separatist leader Asiya Andrabi, and the Darul Uloom at Bandipora, who, despite assuring them justice, took no action against the Maulvi. So much for “azaadi” enthusiasts having the back of their own.

Recently, another local Maulvi in Kashmir has been accused of raping scores of minor boys under the pretext of summoning djinns and driving away ‘evil eye’. Kashmir Police has booked Aijaz Shaikh, popularly known as Maulvi Saab amongst the locals, under section 377 of the state’s Ranbir Penal Code.

Shockingly, the Maulvi has been abusing young boys since years when he was teaching Quran and Arabic in a school. He would also rape boys while pretending to be possessed by a djinn.

The victims have gone through such trauma that some are even showing signs of depression, anxiety, guilt and fear. However, since the state of Jammu and Kashmir is exempt from Acts like Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO), the victims are deprived of sensitivity in approaching such case.

Muslim youth from Uttar Pradesh posted communal posts from fake account posing as a Hindu

0

Hamirpur Police on Wednesday arrested a Muslim youth, Ahmed, for posting obscene, offensive and communal posts through a fake account of Sundaram, former district coordinator of RSS student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Ahmed allegedly posted communally sensitive and outrageous posts under the name of Sundaram on Hindu holy books Ramayan and Geeta, which angered the community in Maudaha, Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on the complaint filed by Sundaram, the police arrested Ahmed, who has confessed to his crime. He also confessed that he wanted to create communal tension and start a communal riot in Maudaha.

Ahmed would also post obscene posts on Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi and forward the same on WhatsApp. Cases have been filed against him under the IT Act amongst others.

Recently, an FIR was lodged against a Delhi University professor, Kedar Kumar Mandal for his Facebook post likening Goddess Durga to a ‘sexy prostitute’.

This extreme behaviour is not just limited to Islamists and pseudo-seculars spreading hatred about Hindus and Hinduism. Muslim celebrities also get trolled on social media for taking part in celebrations of Hindu festivals. Irfan Pathan was recently trolled on social media for celebrating Raksha Bandhan. Before that, he had to fend off the trolls who has pounced upon his Instagram and Facebook page, after being irked by his photo with his wife who even though was wearing a Burkha, had exposed her hands and was wearing a nail-polish.

His Indian team colleagues too have been similarly targeted. Mohammed Kaif was also recently trolled by the Islamists for posting a photo of him playing chess with his son. The trolls justified their attack by claiming that chess was haram in Islam. He was also similarly trolled in December last year by Muslim fundamentalists for doing Surya Namaskar.

Mohammed Shami too has had his share of such incidents. In July he was trolled for celebrating the birthday of his daughter. They were offended especially by ‘the way Shami celebrated’ the birthday. He also in the past had to deal with angry comments for the photo of his wife in a gown.

Also it isn’t just Indian cricketers who have been plagued by such incidents. Even English cricketer Moeen Ali was recently trolled on twitter for drawing a picture because he was going against the traditions of Islam.

Rahul Gandhi lies in a Gujarat election rally, second time in two days

Rahul Gandhi is on a roll these days. Fresh from his tour of the USA, Rahul Gandhi has deep-dived into campaigning for the BJP Congress, for the upcoming Gujarat elections. And it appears that he hasn’t done his homework well.

Yesterday, we had seen how Rahul Gandhi had lied during a speech in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region. He had claimed that the Sardar Patel statue, which is to be built near the Sardar Sarovar Dam, will actually be a ‘Made In China’ product. This claim was actually busted in 2015 itself, but Rahul Gandhi chose to ignore the facts and repeated the lie.

Today, media reports quoted Rahul Gandhi saying this:

PM Modi waived off loan worth Rs 1.3 lakh crores for 15 industrialists. When farmers demand loan waiver, PM does not not utter a word

The video can be seen here. It is hard to decide where to begin as far as this statement is concerned.

1. Rahul Gandhi of the present says  Rs1.3 lakh crores for 15 industrialists. Rahul Gandhi from the past, November 2016 to be precise, had said:  Rs 1.1 lakh crores for 15 industrialists.

Obviously Rahul Gandhi has offered no explanation for this rise of Rs 20000 crores from his own statement (largely because the mainstream media doesn’t ask him or Congress about the lies he spreads), but we must be thankful that at least the number of industrialists is constant.

2.  Or is it possible that may be Rahul Gandhi has a better source on this Rs 1.3 lakh crores? He does not mention a source but he claims that this amount relates to loans of industrialists. Fact is, this Rs 1.3 lakh crores relates to Farm Loan waivers and not business loans!

On 31st August 2017, RBI Governor Urijit Patel gave a speech, in which he estimated the total cost of farm loan waivers to be Rs 1.3 lac crores:

Beginning with Tamil Nadu in 2016, domino effects have spread in 2017 to several states and the total cost of loan waivers announced amounts to around ₹ 1,30,000 crores (0.8 per cent of GDP).

The irony of this is too much to bear. Rahul Gandhi, uses the farm loan waiver figure, claims that it is the business loan waiver figure, and says in the same breath that famers’ loans are not getting waived off!

3. Let us give the benefit of doubt to Rahul Gandhi and let us forget the figure for a bit. Irrespective of the actual crores, loan waivers to industrialists is quite a serious issue. Except that there has been no such loan waiver!

Firstly, Rahul Gandhi had uttered this same claim in the parliament, in February 2017, and the Finance Minister, on the floor of the house, had given a direct reply to Rahul Gandhi:

Though I am not used to using harsh words, I would say that what Rahul had been saying at various public meetings was completely away from truth

Jaitley further said that not a single Industrialist’s loan was waived after Modi government came to power. If only Rahul Gandhi had managed to pay attention he would have avoided this gaffe.

Secondly, Rahul Gandhi needs a basic lesson in finances of banks. As explained here, when a bank “writes off” a loan, it does not waive it. Write-offs are a purely technical, accounting entry. Write-offs give a true picture of the bank’s assets (loans given) and the income there on (interest). Accounts where prospects of recovery is bleak, are technically written off from the live ledgers and parked in AUCA (Advance Under Collection Account) in accordance with laid down instructions. Most write offs, irrespective of outstanding, should be treated as technical write offs and parked in AUCA and recovery process of these accounts will continue till resolution of these accounts.

Even when accounts are written off, various recovery procedures like recovery suits are filed before the DRT (Debts Recovery Tribunals) or Courts, and action initiated under SARFAESI Act continue. Accounts held in AUCA may be taken up for dropping only after exhausting all avenues of recovery, hence merely transferring an account to AUCA is not a “waiver of the loan”.

The RBI too had issued a clarification to this effect in February 2016 (during Raghuram Rajan’s term), when similar reports had surfaced. Is it too much to ask from Rahul Gandhi or his speech writers to be aware of this at least?

To summarize, Rahul Gandhi got the “loan waiver” figure wrong, the type of “loan waiver” wrong, and worse, his claim of a “loan waiver” is itself wrong. Two wrongs do not make a right, but three wrongs make a Rahul Gandhi claim.

‘Don’t trouble the students, talk to them’ – Yogi’s strict instruction to BHU administration

0

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has said that he has taken strict cognizance of the violence that erupted in BHU late on Saturday night (23rd September 2017). He blamed miscreants for instigating the violence and while he said that such elements will be dealt with strongly, he instructed the BHU administration to display sensitivity while dealing with students.

He has ordered the BHU administration to establish a line of communication with the students since the solution to such issues can only come from dialogue.

The Chief Minister also said that the FIRs, that were lodged against the students of the university, will be dropped once the students return to BHU post Dussehra.

Speaking to reporters at the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur on Tuesday, Yogi said that the responsibility to investigate the BHU incident had been given to the commissioner and ADG, who have already filed their report. On the basis of the report, action has already been initiated against the additional city magistrate, one deputy superintendent of the police, and one SHO.

He asserted that the UP government had already ordered a Magisterial enquiry, pending completion. The government has also taken a strict view against the lathicharge on students and journalists.

Yogi also said that the report of Magisterial enquiry will be forwarded to the central government since BHU is a central university and any action against its administration falls under the purview of the central government.

Reports emerged yesterday that pointed towards opposition parties hijacking the BHU protests, thereby adding fuel to fire. Yogi Adityanath said that nothing better can be expected from an opposition devoid of constructive issues, and they were using the BHU incident to distract the central and state government from focusing on their agenda of development.

Violence had engulfed the Banaras Hindu University on 23rd September after a woman student of the Arts faculty complained about harassment by three men on a motorcycle who later fled the scene. The BHU students have been protesting since Thursday against the rising incidents of molestation on campus.

On Sunday, the police deployed additional 1500 personnel to maintain law and order on the campus. Violence had erupted after some people tried to make their way to meet the Vice Chancellor “forcibly”. The Vice Chancellor has also blamed anti social elements from outside the university for the incident in which several students, policeman and journalists were injured. Taking moral responsibility of these developments, the chief proctor of the university offered his resignation, which was accepted.

Myanmar government shares more stories about horror inflicted on Hindus by Rohingya terrorists

0

Myanmar Government today released first-hand stories of the kin of those Hindus whose bodies were found in the mass graves in the conflicted Rakhine state. The Hindus were allegedly killed by extremist terrorists from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). 28 bodies were discovered on Sunday and 17 more bodies were discovered on Monday.

The Director General, State Counsellor Office, Myanmar today shared the stories of brutality of Rohingya terrorists on Hindus on social media:

In a Facebook post, the Myanmar Government shared interviews of Hindu survivors:

“On the day when the terrorist attacks happened, terrorists came to Khamaungseik to abduct Hindus, in which my brother was one of the victims. All were inhumanely killed on the way,

with eight Hindu women and children abducted to Bangladesh. Women were raped. I had a contact with those women. I did not yet know whether my brother’s wife and children have not been accounted and have been killed. We heard most of them killed by terrorists.”

-Ronni, Oh-Htein Village

Another survivor said the throats were slit by the terrorists.

“Some were found to have been decapitated and limbs amputated. We want to find our daughter as soon as possible. I will not stop looking for my daughter even if she is found dead and it is only her skeleton. I pray for my daughter not to experience such a worse situation. Terrorists not only killed Hindus, including the cruel killing of children, but also raped the women.”

-Arshee Kumar, 4 ward, Maungtaw

One woman survivor lost her entire family to the massacre.

“My husband’s two brothers were among the dead bodies dug up. Their names are Bisnia and Han Montie. Their wives and children were also killed. A mother and her two children and another mother and her three children have not been accounted for. We overheard that one was abducted to Bangladesh.”

-Salmon Barlar, Kyeinchaung Village

Another woman could recognise her sister only though the bangles she wore whereas a woman could identify her husband and children from their clothes. Recalling the horror, she said the limbs were also amputated and legs were completely cut. “Fifteen of my relatives have not yet been found. Terrorists killed our Hindus in Khamaungseik,” said Orno Barlar, who survived since she was in another village to attend an event.

Myanmar government recently have highlighted how Rohingya terrorists have been guilty of human rights violation and for troubles in the Rakhine region, which has forced thousands to flee the country over years.
