On November 18, 1962, in minus 25 degrees, 120 soldiers took on thousands of Chinese soldiers, fighting with their bare hands when their ammunition ran out. Major Singh, along with 114 soldiers, was martyred, their bodies found clutching their guns, a testament to the unwavering courage of the Indian Army.

While Indians living in countries like the US, Canada, and Europe often import fibreglass idols of Goddess Durga, not meant to be immersed, the idol in Kashi is not immersed because of the Goddess's command.
