West Bengal election: AIMIM joins hands with former TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, who gave hate speech against Hindus and laid foundation of ‘Babri Masjid’

In a major development, AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi has announced that his party will contest the upcoming West Bengal Vidhan Sabha election with Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP).

He made the announcement in Hyderabad after accusing the Mamata government of doing ‘injustice’ to Muslims.

For the unversed, AJUP is the party of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Humayun Kabir. An Islamist by ideology, Kabir had made several hate speeches against Hindus and laid the foundation of the controversial ‘Babri Masjid’ in Murshidabad.

After being ‘ousted’ by TMC, he started his own party in December 2025. On Sunday (22nd March), the former TMC MLA announced the names of candidates contesting on 149 seats in West Bengal.

It must be mentioned that Humayun Kabir is contesting from 2 seats, Rejinagar and Naoda. He had previously held talks for seat-sharing arrangement with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian Secular Front but failed to reach a consensus.
