BJP govt set to introduce UCC bill in Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha during the Monsoon session: Here is what we know so far

On 17th June, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that the Uniform Civil Code or UCC bill will be introduced in the coming Monsoon session of the state assembly. The session is slated to begin on 20th July.

The decision came two months after CM Yadav constituted a six-member committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge to examine the issue and prepare recommendations.

During a media interaction on Wednesday, CM Yadav said, “The Uniform Civil Code bill will also be introduced in this session. With the blessings of Baba Mahakal, the UCC bill will be passed this session.”

The Madhya Pradesh UCC will replace existing separate personal laws, including marriage, divorce, maintenance, inheritance, adoption and live-in relationships.

Earlier, the BJP governments in Uttarakhand and Assam implemented UCC.
