The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Saturday (4th July), announced the arrest of two people in connection with the leak of the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) 2022 question paper. The exam was conducted for departmental recruitment to the post of goods train manager in the South Western Railway. The arrestees have reportedly been identified as Palvoi Ashok and Sheik Jilani.
As per reports, the accused were nabbed in Bengaluru on Friday (3rd July). They were produced before a Bengaluru court and were remanded to four-day custody. The investigating agency recovered incriminating documents, exam-related candidate logs, electronic devices, including scanners and printers, allegedly used to perpetrate the fraud, along with examination-related records during a raid at the premises of the accused. The investigation agency has described the arrested accused as the ‘kingpins’ of the paper leak conspiracy.
The arrest comes after a case was registered against 23 accused based on a complaint by the South Western Railway administration. The case involved charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and the receipt of illegal gratification by public servants.
The agency said that it found evidence linking the accused to a conspiracy to leak the question paper and distribute it to select candidates before the examination. The exam was conducted for departmental recruitment to the post of goods train manager in the South Western Railway.
