East Champaran Police arrest Tabbu Khatoon in Ajay Patel murder investigation

On 10th May, the East Champaran Police said in a statement that they have solved the murder of a Hindu man identified as Ajay Patel within hours and arrested Tabbu Khatoon for orchestrating it. Her husband Aslam Mian is still absconding. According to the police, Ajay had an affair with Tabbu. The incident took place in the Harsiddhi police station area’s Math Lohiyan Chhatwaniya locality. Ajay’s body was found hanging inside a cattle shed on the night of 9th May.

In a statement, police said that the accused first brutally assaulted Ajay and killed him. Later, they hung the body with a noose to make it appear like suicide. Officials stated that injuries were found on the deceased’s body and blood stains were recovered from Tabbu’s house.

Tabbu Khatoon arrested, Aslam absconding

Addressing the media, Areraj DSP Ravi Kumar stated that Tabbu Khatoon, wife of Aslam Mian, was arrested as the main conspirator in the case. Ajay was allegedly in a relationship with her. Photos and videos linked to the two went viral earlier.

According to the police, Aslam had been planning the murder for around two months while staying in Nepal. On the day of the incident, he and his associates attacked Ajay and later hanged his body in the cowshed to mislead investigators.

Police recovered pieces of the rope used for hanging, a mobile phone, slippers belonging to the deceased, and other evidence from the spot. The FSL team and dog squad were also deployed during the investigation.

Victim had recently returned from Punjab

Ajay worked as a tailor in Ludhiana. He had returned to his village on 6th May. His body was discovered near a canal side cattle shelter in the village, which triggered panic among locals. A complaint was filed by the victim’s mother, Prema Devi, leading to an FIR against eight accused. Reports suggest that Tabbu is one of two wives of Aslam. He had four children with his first wife and two with Tabbu. While Tabbu has been arrested, the other accused remain absconding.
