A video recently went viral on social media showing Kayalvizhi Alagiri, the granddaughter of late senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, slapping a State Bank of India (SBI) official.
The incident reportedly took place on 20th July at the SBI NRI Branch in Chennai’s Adyar Area. The video shows a heated argument taking place between the SBI Branch Manager and Kayalvizhi Alagiri. She can be seen losing her cool and mimicking and mocking the branch manager.
Then, in the middle of the argument, she shot up from her seat and slapped the SBI official across his face. She kept on gesturing and pointing her finger at the bank official and uttering something in visible anger as the person sitting next to her tried to calm her.

The incident led to the filing of an FIR against Kayalvizhi Alagiri based on a complaint filed by the Chief Manager of SBI RBO-II, Namachivayam. The FIR has been filed under sections 296(b) (Uttering Obscene words), 329(4) (Penalty for house trespass), 115(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (Criminal Intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is underway in the case.
As per reports, Kayalvizhi Alagiri, daughter of former Union Minister MK Alagiri, owns the building in which the SBI branch operates. On the day of the incident, branch manager Harsheen Singh had contacted Kayalvizhi regarding the repair of a malfunctioning lift. Singh reached out to Kayalvizhi Alagiri after her representatives did not heed his complaints.
Kayalvizhi Alagiri was reportedly furious over being contacted directly by Harsheen Singh regarding the elevator issue. The complaint states that she also abused and threatened Singh.
In the complaint, the Chief Manager sought appropriate legal action against Kayalvizhi. When asked, police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and said investigations were underway.
