A 29-year-old man, Danveer Jatav, was arrested within a day for damaging an idol at a Kali Mata Temple located at Kutwara village in Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh. Police stated that the quick action was taken after a complaint by villagers, and the accused was later sent to judicial custody by the court.

The incident took place late on the night of 24th March when the accused entered the temple and broke the idol by throwing stones. According to Indar police station in-charge Vivek Yadav, a case was registered on March 25 under Section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint by Shevendra Lodhi (34) and other villagers. Acting under the direction of senior officials, including SP Aman Singh Rathore, the police arrested the accused on March 26 and presented him before the court.
Reason behind the act
During the interrogation, accused Danveer Jatav confessed that he was deeply disturbed due to his brother’s murder last year. He told police that he was carrying anger over the incident, which led him to take this step. According to the police, the accused was also drunk when the crime was committed.
Jatav is reportedly a Dalit activist, with social media users claiming that he is a member of Bhim Army.
Apology procession in the village
After the arrest of the accused, the police took him back to the village for spot verification. During this process, an apology procession was carried out where he walked through the village holding his ears and asking for forgiveness from residents. At the temple, he bowed before the deity, did sit-ups, and apologised again for his actions.
During this period, a large number of villagers gathered at the location as tension had already spread in the area after a video of the incident surfaced and went viral.
Sent to jail
After completing the legal process and spot verification, the police present the accused in court. The court ordered judicial custody, and he was sent to jail. Police said further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
