Pandey demanded that no legal action should be taken against violent protestors who damaged public property and attacked police personnel and that the government should forgive them. “No cases can be filed against the kids. Forgive them; they are our kids. They committed mistakes; we should forgive them,” Pandey said.
He further said that if legal action is taken against any of the “kids” who were involved in violence during the protest, he will fund the cost of litigation for them.

He claimed that the people who resorted to violence during the protests were not students but some disturbing elements. Pandey said that the disturbing elements should be identified and booked, but students who committed violence should be spared.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest, which was organised in the name of the NEET paper leak issue, turned violent on 20th July, resulting in clashes between the protestors and the police personnel. The protestors broke through security barricades, pelted stones at police personnel and even attacked several media persons, which led to a lathicharge by police. Hundreds of people were injured during the violence, including media persons and police personnel.
Meanwhile, considering the incidents of violence during the protest, which is still going on, the central government has given detention powers to the Delhi Police under the National Security Act (NSA). The statutory law allows the detention of people without formal charges for 12 days to 12 months. The central government order permits the preventive detention power to be exercised for three months, from 19th July to 18th October.
