RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat speaks against reclamation of temples, says those raking up ‘temple-mosque’ disputes want to be Hindu leaders

Amid the rising consciousness of the Hindu society to reclaim Temples lost to Islamic invaders, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat has categorically spoken against the reclamation of Temples. On the 19th of December 2024, Mohan Bhagwat was speaking at an event ‘India- The Vishwaguru’ in Pune. He said that certain people want to become Hindu leaders by raking up new Temple-Mosque disputes after the Ayodhya Ram Temple was built.

“We have been living in harmony for a long time. If we want to provide this harmony to the world, we need to create a model of it. After the construction of Ram Mandir, some people think they can become leaders of Hindus by raking up similar issues in new places. This is not acceptable,” Bhagwat was quoted as saying by PTI.

“Every day, a new matter (dispute) is being raked up. How can this be allowed? This cannot continue. India needs to show that we can live together,” he said without mentioning any particular site.

“Coming to the question of devotion. There should be a Ram Temple and it indeed happened. That is a site for the devotion of Hindus…But raking up new issues every day for disdain and enmity should not be done. What is the solution here? We should show the world that we can live in harmony so we should have a little experiment in our country…We have ideologies of different sects and communities in our country…”, he said.

He said those raking up “new issues every day” were doing it out of “disdain and enmity”.

According to PTI, Mohan Bhagwat also said that those who came from outside brought staunchness into the nation but now the country runs as per the Constitution. He cited the example of Aurangzeb, as a leader who believed in such staunchness. He then cited the example of the Mughal ruler’s descendant, Bahadur Shah Zafar who also banned cow slaughter in 1857.

“It was decided that Ram Mandir in Ayodhya should be given to Hindus but the British sensed it and created rift between the two communities”, he said. He further said that it was since then that the mindset of separatism took roots, resulting in the formation of Pakistan.

Earlier, Mohan Bhagwat had said that Hindus should not look for Shivling under every mosque. Later, RSS leader Indresh Kumar had explained the statement by Bhagwat. He had said, “What Mohan Bhagwat said is very clear. There is no need to search, the truth is in front of everyone. Everyone should accept that truth. Muslims and people belonging to other religions should come forward and hand over the disputed religious places of Hindus to the Hindu community”.
