Salwan Momika, who organised Quran burnings in Sweden in 2023, shot dead

Iraqi Christian Salwan Momika, who organised a number of Quran burnings in 2023, has been shot dead on Thursday, January 30, news agency AFP reported. Momika was shot dead in Sweden where he was living, and where he organised the Quran burning events.

Salwan Momika was charged of inciting ‘ethnic hatred’ through his actions, and on Thursday, a Stockholm Court was set to pass a ruling on the same. The ruling has now been postponed as the Court said that one of the defendants has died.

The Quran burnings in sweden had strained the country’s ties with several Islamic countries, with massive protests in Muslim-majority countries.

Salwan Momika and another man Salwan Najem were charged with “offences of agitation against an ethnic or national group”.
