On Saturday night, 6th June, another incident of public anger against a Trinamool Congress leader was reported when eggs were thrown at the convoy of senior TMC MLA Madan Mitra in the Kamarhati area of West Bengal.
The incident took place in Ariadaha of North 24 Parganas, where Mitra had gone after receiving information about unrest in the locality. According to reports, a group of residents gathered in protest and targeted the MLA’s convoy by throwing eggs. The situation became tense, and the convoy was forced to leave the area.

After the incident, Mitra claimed that he was not inside the vehicle when the attack took place. However, reports also suggested that his driver was assaulted during the commotion.
Reacting to the incident, Mitra accused BJP supporters of being behind the attack and claimed it was a planned attempt to target him. He alleged that BJP-backed miscreants had orchestrated the protest.
Residents, however, presented a different version. According to them, dissatisfaction had been building in the area for quite some time. The protest began outside the residence of a councillor from Ward No. 14 in Kamarhati, where a large number of auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers gathered.
The protesters demanded the return of money that they had been collected from them over the years as “cut money.” They accused local leaders of taking illegal payments and said they now wanted accountability following the recent change in the state’s political situation.
Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee was pelted with eggs and stones by irate locals in Sonarpur South area of South 24 Parganas district on 30th May.
