The Election Commission released Assam’s final 2026 voter list today, recording 2,49,58,139 registered electors across 126 constituencies. Following rigorous verification and a house-to-house drive, the total count saw a reduction of over 2.43 lakh names from the initial draft list.

The West Bengal assembly elections are set for early next year after the SIR program is completed in the state.

Following requests from Chief Electoral Officers, the Election Commission has updated the Special Intensive Revision timetable for electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman & Nicobar, and Uttar Pradesh. Eligible voters are encouraged to register before the new deadlines. Final rolls will be published in February 2026, with draft lists released mid-December for some States and UTs.

The Court explained that if the Election Commission finds that a large number of voters in a state are dead, it cannot pick and choose constituencies in the state to conduct the SIR.
