Love Jihad

A Dalit Hindu woman was trapped into a marriage by a Muslim man who posed as Suraj and established sexual relations with her.

The PIL challenged an order by an Uttar Pradesh court that defined 'Love Jihad' as an act in which Muslim men systematically target' Hindu women for conversion to Islam through marriage and fraudulently marry Hindu women 'under the pretence of love' in order to convert them.

Mohsin Multani introduced himself as Pradeep Solanki. He befriended a Hindu tribal woman and sexually exploited her repeatedly on the pretext of marriage. When she came to know about his identity and tried to maintain distance, he blackmailed her using objectionable videos he had recorded of her.

The family of the girl confirmed that the accused had been harassing her constantly. "She was happy with the arranged marriage we fixed for her. All the preparations for the engagement were also done. But she decided to end he life due to constant harassment by the accused," the maternal uncle of the girl said.

The accused first promised to embrace Hinduism to marry her but then started to pressure her to convert to Islam.
