Seven Naxalites, including two high-ranking leaders, were killed in a major anti-Naxal operation conducted by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district between June 5 and 7, officials said on Saturday.
More than 15 Naxals were killed in an ongoing encounter near Keregutta Hills in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday. According to a police official, the encounter is still underway in Bijapur district along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border under 'Mission Sankalp'.
Around four helicopters, 20 drones equipped with satellite imagery tech and maps by NTRO, and many other equipment are being used in the current operations.
In a significant blow to Naxals, security personnel gunned down 16 Naxals and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in a major encounter in the Kerlapal area of Sukma district, said Sukma SP on Saturday.
The gunfight between Naxals and security forces broke out this morning in the forest of Abhujmad when a joint team of the security personnel from four districts, Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada, and Kondagaon was out on an anti-Naxal operation
Hemchand Manjhi added, "Earlier, they (Naxalites) killed my nephew Komal Manjhi by levelling false allegations. My family is living under the shadow of threat."
The voting process began at 7 a.m. amid tight security. Polling started at 7 a.m. for ten seats, which include Mohla-Manpur, Antagarh, Bhanupratappur, Kanker, Keshkal, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur and Konta. The other 10 seats started pollling at 8 am.
