Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is underreporting the number of devotees attending the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.

The Uttar Pradesh Police have intensified their efforts against individuals and social media accounts spreading false information to defame the Maha Kumbh 2025

Nearly a week before the stampede on Mauni Amavasya, the Uttar Pradesh government had declared that the Mahakumbh area in Prayagraj would be a no-vehicle and no VIP zone from 27th to 30th January.

"All the members of the Adani family present at the Maha Kumbh and the entire Adani Group, in collaboration with the fair administration and the state government, are committed to provide all possible assistance to the affected families," he added.

Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that Amrit Snan is about to begin and police and administration will assist all the akharas in completing their traditional processions.

After a brief halt due to large crowds, saints began their procession as they headed to Triveni Sangam for the second Amrit Snan of MahaKumbh 2025 on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday.

As per reports, while a large number of people were moving towards Sangam ghat, at around 1.30 am in the night, a sudden stampede like situation emerged and people started running over fallen persons.

A special cabinet meeting of Uttar Pradesh government, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath commenced on Wednesday at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
