Jaishankar talked about the compulsion of the likeliness of building alternative systems for 'global goods' such as telecom, international courier and others, referring to such compulsion as an "aberration" rather than a desire to replace a system.
"What is very troubling for India is the spate of attacks on minorities. It obviously is something that impacts our thinking. It is something we have to speak up about, which we have done," S Jaishankar said.
During the NDTV World Summit, S Jaishankar pointed out that there has been a shift in the power balance from overtly Western domination to the rise of regional powers (something which has made Western countries in particular uncomfortable).
Dr Jaishankar mentioned that what is particularly worrying about the developments in Bangladesh is that minorities, their businesses and temples have come under attack at various locations in Bangladesh.
In a veiled swipe at the country's first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said India lost its hold on Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) due to "someone's weakness or mistake".
Jaishankar said Pakistan sent tribal people from its north-western part to launch attacks in the erstwhile Indian province but the Congress government back then labelled them as 'infiltrators', and not 'terrorists'
If I am smart enough to have multiple options, you should be admiring me. Is that a problem for others? I don't think so, suddenly in this case. We try to explain what are the different pulls and pressures that countries have. it's very hard to have that unidimensional relationship," Jaishankar said.
"...We have also had a culture of vote banks and there are sections who had in their own eyes a certain privilege…and it's a phenomenon," Jaishankar said during an interaction at the Hudson Institute in the US.
