The victim's son had been fighting for justice for several years and has now approached the Judicial Investigation Commission.

The records of the 1978 riots are available up to 1993. Officials have alleged that documentation of the case files beyond that period is missing. The administration has assured a fresh inquiry into all the cases, aiming to address the long-standing grievances of the victims.

Massive violence broke out in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on 24th November 2024 after Muslim mobs ran riots and pelted stones at the police over contested Shahi Jama Masjid site.

An Islamist identified as Muhammad Akil while in communication with Pakistan cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza on YouTube live said that it was Friday and the Islamist mob was furious over the claims of a temple beneath the 300-year-old Masjid.

The probe was ordered after CM Yogi addressed the history of violence in Sambhal during his address in state assembly.

Sharik Satha has over 50 cases registered against him in various states. A few years ago, he reportedly fled to Dubai. Police believe that he not only provided funding for the Sambhal violence but also supplied weapons.

In addition to the power theft charges, Barq’s associates have been accused of threatening electricity department officials. His father, Mamluk-ur-Rehman Barq, has also been implicated for allegedly issuing threats.
