The Additional Sessions Court in Kerala convicted 15 SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India) - PFI (Popular Front of India) workers for the murder of BJP leader Ranjith Sreenivasan.
Eight of the accused men who were found guilty of murder include Nizam, Muhammad Aslam, Salam Ponnad, Abdul Salam, Safaruddin, Ajmal, Anoop, and Manshad.
Notably, after the central government had banned PFI last year, the Kerala HC had noted that both SDPI and PFI have a history of attacking members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh
The SDPI member thanked the SP and the Assistant SP for maintaining law and order by preventing the entry of the likes of Pushpendra Kulshrestha into Bijapur.
SDPI which is the political wing of the banned PFI declared that it would contest only 16 Assembly seats in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 in order to help Congress
