"The attack was led by a local Trinamool Panchayat member, where Muslims targeted Hindus for chanting “Jai Shri Ram” and even questioned, “How dare you raise this slogan?” (as heard in the video)," BJP national spokesperson Amit Mavliya added.
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya shared the video of the attack on Hindu shops and properties. He blamed supporters of Mamata Banerjee of orchestrating vandalism and arson.
"The idol is being replaced and the person responsible for the mischief has been arrested. Preliminary enquiry suggests that the person has mental health issues," Basirhat Police claimed.
"Shaikhpara Bazar committee wants to inform our shopkeeper friends that starting next Friday, all shops will remain closed throughout the day except hotels and the ones selling medicines, sweets, fish, meat, fruits and vegetables," the announcement read.
The family members of the girl were harassed when they went to file a complaint at the Mahishamari police station. The ill-treatment triggered the locals, who then hit the streets in protest.
The controversy stemmed from a video interview of Nazia, wherein she objected to the use of 'Hindu sounding names' for shops and eateries run by Muslim business owners.
