Bangladesh: Mosque makes an announcement to save cows, two cow thieves get killed by locals

As soon as the incident occurred, an announcement was made through the local mosque microphone. An angry mob who spotted the cattle smugglers chased down two of them while the others got away.

The grave issue of cow smuggling and illegal cow slaughter is not just a worry for India but also for the neighbouring country Bangladesh. Dhaka Tribune reports that two suspected cattle smugglers were allegedly killed by an angry mob at Kaliakair Upazila in Gazipur of Bangladesh.

Kaliakair police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Alamgir Hossain Majumdar said, “The miscreants stole six cows and loaded them onto a truck from the houses of Shahjahan and Mohon Ali in Nowla village.”

“Later, they went to steal cattle from the house of one Samad Ali in nearby Bariabaho village. His neighbours noticed suspicious activity and yelled for help,” he said.

According to Majumdar, as soon as the incident occurred, an announcement was made through the local mosque microphone. An angry mob who spotted the cattle smugglers chased down two of them while the others got away. The two cattle smugglers were beaten up heavily after they were captured by the mob. Their bodies were recovered by police and sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur for post-mortem.

According to the reports, bodies of two suspected cattle thieves have been recovered by the Bangladesh police from Kaliakair in Gazipur on Saturday. The two dead cattle smugglers are believed to be in the age between 25 to 30 years. However, the police could not immediately provide details of their identities.
