On Saturday (18th January), the Sealdah court found prime accused Sanjay Roy guilty in the murder and rape case of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment on Monday (20th January). During the pronouncement of the verdict, the accused pled innocence and claimed that he was being made a ‘scapegoat.’
Sanjay Roy was arrested on 10th August last year and was booked under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita Sections 64 (rape), Sections 66 (punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state) and 103 (punishment for murder).
The day-to-day hearing in the case began on 11th November 2024. It must be mentioned that Sanjay Kar was a ‘civic volunteer’ with the Kolkata police.
