The troubles of Shariq Satha, the alleged mastermind of the violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, and one of the country’s most notorious auto-lifters, are set to intensify further. A court has issued an attachment warrant for Shariq’s house in Deepa Sarai, following which the police have completed preparations to seize his property.
According to ASP Kuldeep Singh, Shariq has been absconding for a long time and has failed to surrender despite repeated court warnings. The police have now written to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) seeking the formation of a magistrate-led team, after which a date will soon be fixed for the attachment proceedings. The seizure will be carried out at the accused’s residence with the customary public announcement using drums.
Police records indicate that Shariq Satha has been on the SIT’s radar since the Sambhal violence of 2024. However, he is believed to have fled to Dubai using a fake passport as early as 2020. A highly seasoned criminal, Shariq allegedly used to steal nearly 300 vehicles every year.
After his release from Delhi jail, he has repeatedly evaded the police. While the SIT has already sent three members of his gang to prison, Shariq’s continued evasion has prompted preparations to issue a Red Corner Notice against him. The police are also searching for individuals who may be providing him with financial or legal assistance while he remains abroad.
