US President Donald Trump on Monday, 23rd March, declared that he has asked the Department of War to pause the planned military strikes on Iran’s power plants for five days. The decision came after what he described as “productive conversations” between the United States and Iran over the past two days.
Sharing the update on Truth Social, Trump said the talks have been positive and could lead to a resolution of tensions in the region. “I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD… VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS,” he wrote. He added that discussions will continue throughout the week.

Trump also explained why the strikes have been postponed for now. “Based on the tenor and tone of these… conversations… I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes… for a five-day period,” he said, making it clear that further action will depend on how the talks progress.
This development comes just a day after Trump had issued a strong warning to Iran. On Sunday, 22nd March, he had threatened to “hit and obliterate” Iranian power plants if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
