A Hindu woman, identified as 19-year-old Kavita Das, was found hanging under suspicious circumstances at her boyfriend Mahfuz Khan’s house in the Santoshi Nagar area of Raipur on Sunday night. The case has created panic in the locality, with the woman’s family accusing the man of harassment and murder.
As per the information, Kavita had gone to meet Mahfuz at his house late on April 19. The situation came to light the next morning when the door did not open for a long time, raising doubts among family members. When they checked through a window, she was seen hanging inside. The door was then broken open, but by the time she was brought down, she had already died.
Police officials say that the case is currently being treated as a suicide based on initial findings, but they are keeping all possibilities open. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the report is expected to clarify the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, statements of nearby residents and other possible witnesses are being recorded.
Kavita’s family, however, has strongly objected to the suicide angle. They have accused Mahfuz Khan of repeatedly pressuring her to marry him, which they say pushed her into severe mental stress. The family also claimed that he used to physically assault her and even streamed such incidents on Instagram, which added to her trauma. Calling it a clear case of murder, they have demanded strict punishment.
Considering the sensitivity of the case, the police have taken Mahfuz Khan into custody and are questioning him. Officials say every possible angle is being examined to find out what exactly happened that night.
