Congress and CJP leaders engage in war of words to take credit for ‘organic’ protests at Jantar Mantar: Here is what happened

The Congress Party has been trying hard to put up a united front against the Modi government, along with other Opposition parties and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). However, the Congress and the CJP have constantly been at loggerheads, and their leaders have been publicly engaging in feuds time and again.

Recently, Assam Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh had a public spat with CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka. Singh accused Ranka and his party of being an Aam Aadmi Party stooge and hijacking what he claimed was an organic students’ movement. While lashing out at Ranka, Singh spilled the beans on how the Congress Party has been actively supporting the CJP behind the scenes.

Singh’s remarks on Saturday (October 3, 2026) came in reaction to a post by Ranka, in which he took a veiled dig at the Congress party, stating that an entire “self-declared liberal” ecosystem has been activated to denounce CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke.

“An entire “self-declared liberal” ecosystem has been activated to denounce @abhijeet_dipke and the fact that he has been able to capture the imagination of millions of Indians after a LONG LONG time. The hilarious part is that this ecosystem exists only on Twitter, but somehow thinks they are the sole protectors of democracy,” Ranka said, taking a jibe at the Congress.

Ranka’s comments triggered a strong reaction from Reetam Singh, who vowed to expose Ranka’s “conspiracy” and “false sense of pride”. Countering Ranka’s attack, Singh revealed that the Congress helped in the release of Ranka and his party workers after they were detained by the Assam Police. Singh added that Ranka returned Congress’s favour with thanklessness by refusing to have a courtesy meeting with Congress leaders. The Congress spokesperson said that Ranka refused to meet Congress leaders on the directions of the Aam Aadmi Party.

“When you were detained by the Assam Police. We, Congress people, helped to get CJP people out. Yet you categorically refused to have even a courtesy meeting with our Congress Leaders and Gaurav Sir. You refused it because the Aam Aadmi Party asked you not to. Kunki Chowdhury, who was your Host in Guwahati, was on an election campaign with AJP President Lurin Gogoi Da for a Congress Candidate in Nagaon. Even they had asked you to meet and discuss with Congress. Yet not once did you choose to engage with Congress or our student wing,” Singh said.

Singh said that Ranka told the Congress leaders “to stay out of it” and that it was an “Aam Aadmi Party initiative”. Notably, Ranka, along with other CJP workers, was detained while trying to pull a political stunt in the name of student outreach and the expansion of the CJP in the Northeast region.

Reetum Singh further said that, on the direct instructions of the AAP national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, the CJP leadership sidelined AISA national president Neha Bora during recent protests at the Jantar Mantar because she decided to engage with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Singh accused the CJP and the AAP of hijacking a students’ movement and “piggybacking” on Sonam Wanchuk’s hunger strike and entirely taking the credit for it. “It is one thing to stand for student issues. Another thing to hijack a movement. Aam Aadmi Party is known for piggy riding and hijacking issues of others,” Singh said.

“First, with your sham show of India against Corruption with fraud Anna Hazare. Next, when Sonam Wangchuk Sir was on a hunger strike, you guys were dormant until his police pick-up. And when all student associations were protesting unequivocally, you tried to make it all about CJP being an AAP Movement thereafter,” he added. The Congress spokesperson said that the CJP was claiming the proprietorship of the students’ movement “to create a false relaunch of Arvind Kejriwal”.

Interestingly, the heated exchange comes after a Congress worker recently accused the CJP of working in collusion with the BJP, while Singh admitted how Congress helped CJP leaders. This indicates a lack of coordination between the Congress leadership and the ordinary Congress workers.

The conflict between the Congress Party and the CJP is not a new development, and the parties have been at each other’s throats all along. Last month, the parties were seen fighting to take credit for the Supreme Court’s decision to quash FIRs registered against protesters involved in the protests held from July 20 to 25, 2026.

In the same month, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister and newly appointed Congress in-charge for Punjab, Sachin Pilot, called out the duplicity and the political activism of CJP under the pretext of conducting school inspections in various states.
