US State Department applauds Indian govt for sending free Coronavirus vaccine shipments to other South Asian countries

In a statement on Friday, the US State Department applauded the initiative of the Indian government to send a free shipment of Coronavirus vaccines to other South Asian countries to fight the global pandemic.

While hailing India’s commitment to helping the global community, the US State Department tweeted, “We applaud India’s role in global health, sharing millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine in South Asia. India’s free shipments of the vaccine began with Maldives, Bhutan, Bangladesh & Nepal & will extend to others.” It added, “India’s a true friend using its pharma to help the global community,” it further added.

In the last couple of days, India has sent 1.5 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Bhutan, 1 lakh doses to the Maldives, 20 lakh doses to Bangladesh, 15 lakh doses to Myanmar, 10 lakh doses to Nepal, 50,000 doses to Seychelles, and 1 lakh doses to Mauritius.

India sends vaccines to all neighbouring countries except Pakistan

The Modi government has decided to send the vaccines to almost all neighbouring countries, with one notable exception of Pakistan. While the first shipment of Indian vaccines had landed Bhutan and after that in the Maldives, vaccines have reached other nearby nations like Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, and the country plans to send vaccines to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka soon.

Other than these neighbouring countries, India has also sent vaccines to Seychelles and Mauritius as grant supplies. Apart from these grants by India, the commercial export of vaccines is also starting from yesterday. Serum Institute is shipping the Covishield vaccine to Brazil and Morocco today. South Africa and Saudi Arabia will also get shipments for the same in the coming days

Masked man claims he was ‘assigned’ to shoot farmers, farm leader helps him remember his confession

In a dramatic incident at the Singhu border protest site on Friday, the ‘farmer’ leaders presented a person who claimed to be a part of an attack team to shoot four farmer leaders and cause disruption during the January 26 protest outside the national capital.

Addressing a press conference on Friday night, farmers at Singhu Border presented a masked man, who according to them, was part of an alleged conspiracy to disrupt the ‘farmer’ agitation. Speaking to the media, the masked man claimed that he and his team members were allegedly asked to pose as policemen and baton-charge on the crowd if things go out of control during the January 26 tractor rally.

Sitting next to farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, the masked man also named police officials allegedly involved in the plan and named one officer Pradeep as a co-conspirator. Continuing his conspiracy charges, the person claimed that their team was given weapons at two places.

“During January 26 tractor rally, it was planned that half of the people of his team would be present wearing police uniforms to scatter the farmers’ groups. We were also given the photograph of four people, who were to be shot, present at the stage. The person who directed us is a cop,” the masked man further claimed.

He added that they had formed two teams and he was present at the spot since January 19. We were tasked to find out whether protesters were carrying arms, the man said.

“For January 26, the plan was that our other team members would mix with the protesters. And if the protesters approach with their parade, then we were asked to fire shots at them,” the man further claimed.

Interestingly, at 1:20 mins of the above video, the speculated ‘farmer’ killer fails to recall his ‘plot’ to kill the farmers in the middle of the press conference, who was then aided by farmer leader Rakesh Tikait by reminding him of the intricate details of the alleged plot to kill farmers.

The masked man also said that the plan was to warn the farmers during the agitation on January 26, and if they do not respect the police orders, they intended to shoot them in their knees first. Then the team of 10 killers, including him, would shoot from behind to make it look like the farmers have resorted to using firearms in Delhi, he added.

‘Given Rs 10,000 to carry out disruption’

The masked man also said that they were working for money and were to be given Rs 10,000 each to carry out alleged attack against farmers.

“We were working for money. There are other people as well who are involved in this who are yet to be caught. I would request that our families should not be informed about this. We were to be given Rs 10,000 each to carry out the disruption,” the attacker said according to ANI.

The alleged attacker also said that they had been informed about the appearance of the people who will come here to cause disruption. “Those men will be wearing boots, turbans and ribbed jeans. Other men who will come to January 26 rally will come in police uniforms,” the man claimed.

“My duty was to keep an eye on weapons provided. We also resorted to a lathi charge at Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s rally in Karnal recently. We used to undergo training at different places like hotels and dhabas to carry out these acts. We are not killers, but just do these things as we are in need of money,” he added.

Farmer leader claims that the supposed attack was planned to defame protests

BKU leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, citing the alleged ‘confession’ of the masked man, said that the man caught by them initially tried to malign the morcha by alleging that protesters were involved in harassing a girl near the protest site. As the farmer leaders questioned him, the masked man admitted that he just created the ruckus to see if protesters were carrying any arms. Later, he revealed the plan, Jagjit Singh Dalelwal said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police said they are not aware of any masked man, adding that no formal complaint has been filed with till now.

The man has been detained by the Haryana Police and has been taken to Kundli Police Station for questioning. Interestingly, the ‘farmer’ leaders who presented the masked man in front of the media were, in fact, hesitant to hand over the alleged conspirator to the police and asked the police not to treat him harshly.

In the below video, one can see how farmers leaders are reluctant to present him to the police and instead demanded the Haryana police not to take any against him.

Haryana police investigation contradiction farmer leaders’ claims

Meanwhile, Haryana police have said to India Today that there is no person named Pradeep at the Rai Police Station in Haryana’s Sonepat, as claimed by the masked man. The masked man had identified Rai SHO as Pradeep, however, the post is held by Vivek Malik for the past seven months.

SHO Vivek Malik said that that he heard the entire press conference and that there is no officer named Pradeep in the Rai Police Station.

Rejecting the masked man’s claims, SHO Vivek Malik said that the so-called “plan” makes no sense as there is no police role in the ‘farmers’ agitation.

“The boy is saying that they were asked to pose as police and shoot at the farmers. What is the police going to do among the farmers? There was a tractor march in the past too, there was no police present there, there were only farmers. I am not a thief, neither have I done anything wrong that I will run away. I am sitting in the police station,” Rai SHO Vivek Malik said.

Farmer leader fakes attacks on car, gets caught smashing his own car

Just yesterday, the so-called farmers’ lies were exposed out in the public after one protestor was caught smashing his own car at the protest site only to blame the Delhi police later.

Before leaving for the 11th round of meeting with the union government over the protests, Punjab Kisan Union leader had alleged that Delhi Police had smashed the windscreen of his car. He had said that he would take up the issue with the government. Photographs of the smashed rear windscreen of the Toyota car ‘I Love KISAN’ sticker had appeared on media reports on the allegation.

Talking to media, ‘farmer’ leader Ruldu Singh Mansa had said that Delhi police had prevented him from joining the protests, and had attacked his car, breaking the glass. He said that Delhi police personnel had hit the windscreen with sticks. 

However, later another video has emerged, exposing the blatant lie of the farmer leader. In the video, it can be seen that Ruldu Singh Mansa had himself smashed his car with a hockey stick. He was seen surrounded by farmer leaders, and there is no Delhi police personnel in the scene.

This incident highlighted how the ongoing farmer protests are nothing but an agenda against the government, as the farmers have failed to any complaint they have with the new farm laws.

The Keystone XL pipeline and why Joe Biden’s executive order has riled up Canada and fears of job loss

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order to revoke a key permit for the Keystone XL pipeline project, thereby paving a path towards job losses in the construction sector and contraction of the US petroleum industry. The 2735-km pipeline was to carry 8 lac barrels of oil to Texas Gulf Coast in the United States from Alberta in Western Canada via Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas.

“The permit is hereby revoked. Leaving the Keystone XL pipeline permit in place would not be consistent with my Administration’s economic and climate imperatives,” Biden announced in his executive order. The halting of the project can lead to over 11000 job losses and straining of bilateral relations between Canada and the United States.

The pipeline was first proposed in 2008 but received opposition from the Obama administration, in light of controlling fossil fuel emissions. Former US President Donald Trump became a strong advocate of the project and had even revived it. By revoking key permit for the project, Joe Biden has ensured over 8,000 union job losses. The Keystone pipeline would have generated $1.6 billion in gross wages if it were not halted.

Environmentalists have welcomed the move, citing an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and an impending threat to the rivers and forests of Alberta. “Building new infrastructure like the Keystone XL pipeline, which would result in millions of tons of new carbon emissions, just adds fuel to a fire that’s already burning down our house,”  Matt Casale, U.S. PIRG Environment Campaigns Director, said on Monday.

Justin Trudeau issues statement after Keystone project axed

In a statement, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated, “…While we welcome the President’s commitment to fight climate change, we are disappointed but acknowledge the President’s decision to fulfil his election campaign promise on Keystone XL.” He reiterated that Canada is the largest supplier of energy to the United States, thereby contributing to its economic competitiveness, employment and energy security.

With a conciliatory tone, he added, “Workers in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and across Canada will always have our support.” Justin Trudeau welcomed the executive orders of President Joe Biden to rejoin the Paris Agreement, World Health Organisation and lifting the so-called ‘Muslim ban’. “I look forward to working with President Biden to reduce pollution, combat climate change, fight COVID-19, create middle-class jobs, and build back better by supporting a sustainable economic recovery for everyone,” he concluded.

Alberta Premier demands sanctions against the US if executive order not reversed

While Trudeau has been accommodating after Biden axed the Keystone XL pipeline project, the premier of Canada’s Alberta province, Jason Kenney was miffed. The executive order by Joe Biden prompted Jason Kenney to urge Canada’s federal authorities to impose trade sanctions on the US if the decision is not reversed.

Expressing his deep concerns over the action of the Biden administration, Kenny stated, “Doing so would kill jobs on both sides of the border, weaken the critically important Canada-U.S. relationship, and undermine U.S. national security by making the United States more dependent on OPEC oil imports in the future.”

“The Keystone XL pipeline also represents tens of thousands of good-paying jobs that the American economy needs right now. That is why major American labour unions who supported President-elect Biden’s campaign strongly back the project, as do First Nations who have signed partnership agreements, and all state governments along the pipeline route,” he emphasised. Kenny further said that the US imported about 9.14 million petroleum barrels per day in 2019, out of which 3.7 million came from Canada.

“Then it is clear that the government of Canada must impose meaningful trade and economic sanctions in response to defend our country’s vital economic interests,” he told the media. “Not doing so would create a dangerous precedent.”

Social media outrage following the decision by Joe Biden

Canadian Journalist Keean Bexte shared, “I just left Oyen Alberta, a small town along the Keystone Pipeline route. The town is devastated and will never financially recover from Joe Biden stabbing them in the back.”

Twitter user from Canada (@crashandsmash66) tweeted, “Keystone pipeline permit was revoked almost immediately. 1000’s of Albertans looking at layoffs. Can’t wait to see a bunch of strongly worded letters go out from pretend (pretentious) leaders as they don’t lose a penny of their income and claim they are fighting for us.”

One Taylor Garrett commented, “First day in office and you done took 28,000 jobs from the American people! Shutting down the keystone pipeline #ImpeachBidenNow.”

A Twitter user, Justen, pointed out sarcastically whether US President Joe Biden was planning to revive the economy, amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, by ensuring lob losses. “Ah yes helping the economic crisis by canceling the keystone pipeline and stopping oil and gas permits. Yes those job losses will surely help the economy recover,” he tweeted.

Another user mocked the Biden administration for its high-handedness and wrote, “8,000 jobs were lost yesterday by terminating the keystone pipeline. Great direction we are going to.”

On Friday, US President Joe Biden will make his first call with Justin Trudeau on Friday and discuss the issue of keystone pipeline. The Canadian Prime Minister had earlier taken up the issue with Biden in November last year.

In what could be described as an irony of epic proportions, North Korea, known for its egregious human rights violation record, expressed ‘grave concerns’ on the ‘human rights violations’, including alleged racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia in Australia. North Korea raised these concerns about Australia during the universal period review at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Speaking at the UN assembly, Pyongyang representative Han Tae Song, whose country is described by the Human Rights Watch as ‘one of the most repressive countries in the world’, had the gall of providing a laundry list of reasons why North Korea was concerned about Australia’s treatment of its people.

“First, to end deep-rooted racism, racial discrimination, and xenophobia on the basis of ethnic, racial, cultural or religious background in the public sphere,” Song said.

“Two, to cease cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment in public places of detention.”

“Three, to ensure the right of persons with disabilities, including participation in elections on an equal basis with others and revoking of … policies and practices that result in the arbitrary and indefinite detention of persons with disabilities,” Song said.

“We reference the international human rights law and recommend that Australia follows it,” he added.

The irony of the fact that the isolated and totalitarian dictatorship of North Korea — where millions are on the brink of starvation and where speaking one’s mind out could result in execution — had a lesson or two on how Australia should protect and preserve human rights of its people was not lost on people.

Australia’s Liberal MP Dave Sharma branded the comments made by the North Korean representative as “an attempt at the irony”. The British journalist Andrew Neil said the remarks by North Korea were “beyond parody”.

The unabated repression of human rights in North Korea

It is a well-documented fact that the Kim Jong Un regime in North Korea has been unapologetic and indifferent in curtailing the human rights of its population. Arbitrary imprisonment, unpaid forced labour, enforced disappearances, detentions, random executions and denying basic freedoms to its citizens have become a norm in the totalitarian regime bent on controlling every aspect of its citizens.

The repression had intensified in the wake of the coronavirus crisis when the crumbling healthcare infrastructure in the country was soon overwhelmed with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. It was also reported that North Korea was using the cover of COVID-19 to further suppress the human rights of its people.

The Human rights organisations said that the North Korean regime ordered “extreme” steps to stop the spread of the COVID-19. It sealed the borders with Russia and China and passed an order, authorising “unconditionally shoot” on sight anybody crossing its borders without permission.

Kim Jong Un’s authoritarian regime is also known to have designated the quarantine violators as “Special Criminals” and sent them to camps where they were allegedly put through horrendous conditions that led to many deaths.

NCB busts drug racket based out of Pakistan and Sri Lanka after seizing heroin worth Rs 1,000 crore from a boat

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted a huge trans-border drug racket and arrested the two Sri Lankan Tamil operatives identified as MMM Nawas and Mohamed Afnas. The operatives were nabbed from Chennai, where they were living by concealing their real identities. The NCB officials have seized 100 kg contraband valued at Rs 1,000 crore.

The agency said that the syndicate was based out of Pakistan and Sri Lanka, however, the mastermind’s appendage was spread across Afghanistan, Iran, the Maldives and Australia.

According to reports, NCB and it’s Sri Lankan counterpart had joined hands in November 2020 to probe a heroin seizure from a Sri Lankan fishing vessel, “Shenaya Duwa”. As a part of the probe, NCB and the Indian Coast Guard intercepted a vessel near the Tuticorin Port and conducted a search. This led to the recovery of 95.87 kg of heroin, 18.32 kg of methamphetamine. Six Sri Lankan crew members of the vessel were arrested and five pistols and magazines, which were recovered from them, were also seized by the NCB officials. The crew members are said to be in judicial custody at present, informed NCB.

An NCB official said that the NCB was aware of the international links of the racket, especially in Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan. “Hence, we began to probe every available thread in the case and soon found that two key operatives in the racket were living in Chennai”. The NCB subsequently rounded up Nawas and Afnas, who had fled Sri Lanka as the authorities were closing in on them. “There is an Interpol Red Corner Notice issued by the Sri Lankan government against Nawas,” the officer said.

NCB Deputy Director KPS Malhotra informed that Sri Lanka and the Maldives are the two important transit points of the death triangle also called the Golden Crescent comprising Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan for processed heroin. He said that the heroin produced in the death triangle is loaded in fishing vessels and set on the sail from the ports of Iran and Pakistan. It is then loaded into similar vessels from Sri Lanka and the Maldives in a mid-sea transfer.

“There is a big network of foreign entities controlling this lucrative trade. Intelligence developed by the NCB and Indian agencies over a period of time indicates that Pakistani drug traffickers lodged in Sri Lankan prisons for drug offences control this trade and they source and deliver large quantities of heroin from golden crescent countries (Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran) to Sri Lankan and Maldivian entities,” a senior NCB officer said.

A video of Brahmin women being relentlessly badgered by a reporter belonging to a Tamil YouTube channel named Red Pix is going viral on the internet. In the video which has sparked a massive furore online, the reporter could be seen asking insinuating questions to the women and peddling caste hatred against the Brahmins.

According to a report by The Commune, a woman who had participated in an event near Express Avenue Mall in Chennai to discuss the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota and the state government’s hesitance in implementing the same, came under the attack of the Red Pix reporter as soon as the event ended.

As the crowd started dispersing, the Red Pix reporter started asking questions on whether the Hindu women can become temple priests or Shankaracharya. He even proceeded to wrongly claim that the women told him that females were barred from studying as per the Manu Dharma.

The Red Pix reporter then goes on a tirade against the teachings of Vedas, Hindu scriptures, official positions in the government, High Court/Supreme Court judges and Ministers etc., stating that positions of eminence only held exclusively by Brahmins.

The reporter states that only 13 ministers in the BJP cabinet belong to the OBC community and the rest of them all are higher caste and Brahmins. He conveniently misses out on the fact that PM Modi also belongs to OBC.

“Why the BJP Cabinet has a majority from the upper caste and Paarpanars (Brahmins)?” the reporter keeps badgering the woman into answering his question as another lady intervenes and tugs the woman away .

Social Media users angry over the hatred peddled by Red Pix YouTube channel reporter

As the video of the incident surfaced online, it instantly went viral, with many condemning the reporter and calling out his innate prejudice against the Brahmins and his sheer lack of chivalry for the woman in question.

Many on social media websites not only denounced the deplorable behaviour exhibited by the Red Pix reporter but they also highlighted how women priests do exist in Hindu temples as against other faiths who proscribe women from assuming important positions.

Several people on Twitter tagged union ministers to take cognisance of the bullying of a woman by a reporter of the channel peddling hatred against Brahmins, They even asked to ban the Red Pix YouTube channel.

Tamil Nadu Congress spokesperson Americai V. Narayanan has decried the incident and has asked the Tamil Nadu chief minister to take strict against those who are responsible for creating disharmony and sowing seeds of discord within the society.

In conversation with The Commune, the spokesperson of Indu Makkal Katchi Sathya Narayanan said that it is imperative to counter the boundless hatred. Narayanan further added that a case will be filed against the reporter and the channel that is owned by a person named Felix Gerald.

“They ask why only Brahmins are allowed to become Sankarachariyars. Will they be able to ask why only people from Vellalar community are allowed head Adhinams? Does Red Pix have the guts to ask that? Brahmins are your punchbag, is it?”, Sathya Narayanan asked.

Narayanan further added, “This is the reason why this racial hatred peddling ideology called Dravidam needs to be rooted out not just from Tamil Nadu but from the entire world. It is a poison wherever it is!”, Sathya said.

Even as the stalemate over the farmer protests continues, today farmer leader Ruldu Singh Mansa had alleged that Delhi Police had smashed the windscreen of his car. But now a video has emerged which showed that Ruldu had himself broken the glass to accuse Delhi police of highhandedness.

It is clear from the video that it is the same car Mansa was travelling in, as the car in the video has the same branding and sticker on the broken glass.

According to reports, as Ruldu Singh Mansa was travelling in a private car to the meeting, Delhi police had stopped his car and asked where he was going. This was done due to increased security ahead of Republic Day parade, and because his car was not registered with the police for cars going to Vigyan Bhawan to attend the meeting.

After he was stopped by police, he became angry, picked up a hockey stick, and smashed the rear windscreen of his own car. Later, he alleged that the Delhi police attacked his car. But unfortunately for him, the act of him attacking his own car was recorded by someone in the crowd present at the scene on a mobile phone.

This incident again shows that the ongoing farmer protests is nothing but an agenda against the government, as the farmers have failed to any complaint they have with the new farm laws. The farmers have also rejected the government’s proposal to put the laws on hold for 1-1.5 years, and to form a committee to discuss all the issued they have with the laws.

Yogi Adityanath has emerged as the most popular Chief Minister in the country for the third consecutive time in the India Today ‘Mood of the Nation’ survey. Mamata Banerjee, with West Bengal Assembly elections around the corner, has slipped to 4th position behind Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the race for ‘Best CM’.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh received 24 per cent of the votes, up from 18 per cent the last time around. Arvind Kejriwal received 15 per cent of the votes, Jagan Reddy received 11 while Mamata Banerjee received only 9 per cent of the votes in the latest ‘Mood of the Nation’ survey.

Other insights from the Mood of the Nation Survey

According to the India Today-Karvy Insights Mood of the Nation poll, almost three-fourth of the citizens of the country who participated in the survey were happy about the Modi government’s handling of the economic crisis. The MOTN survey has found that 73 per cent of Indians are satisfied with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The survey said that 23% of respondents said it was outstanding, while 50% found it good. In terms of approval ratings, PM Modi seems to enjoy the approval of 74% Indians, only a marginal dip from the 78% found in August 2020 survey.

The MOTN survey said that as many as 67 per cent of Indians are satisfied with the way the central government handled the economic distress caused by the pandemic. Twenty per cent of respondents called it outstanding, while 47 per cent said it was good.

The survey also predicted that if elections were to be held today, the BJP would return back to power with a huge margin. The Mood of the Nation poll shows that the BJP would win 291 seats – eight more than what it had got in the August 2020 edition of the Mood of the Nation poll. As per the latest MOTN survey, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would win 321 seats, up from 316 predicted in August.

Rajdeep Sardesai was ‘baffled’ by these numbers. In August 2020 as well, Sardesai had declared the numbers ‘bewildering’.

An elephant has died in Masinagudi in the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu after locals attempted to chase it away with fire. The owners of a private resort are reported to have thrown a burning tyre on the elephant following which the animal fled the scene trumpeting in obvious pain. According to reports, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The postmortem report shows burnt injuries to the elephant on it ear. In the video, it can be seen that its body is practically lit in flames. The tyre got stuck in its ear. The Masinagudi elephant died while being shifted for treatment. According to reports, the poor animal succumbed to the burn injuries.

It is also suspected to be the same elephant in the viral video where a ranger could be seen weeping profusely. India Today reported, “We also had visuals of rangers crying, apologizing to the elephant for what it had suffered.” The India Today reported appeared to refer to the video that had gone viral earlier on social media. “Who will I talk to? Whom will I take care of? Oh god, I am sorry,” the officer said.

According to a provisional diagnosis, septic pistulla filled with pus and severe loss of blood leading to acute anaemia, hypovolemia resulted in shock and death of the elephant. The news of the injured elephant first came to light on the 20th of January. Deputy Director of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (Buffer Zone) Srikanth told The News Minute, “The early autopsy details revealed that the death is due to the back injury. The elephant might have suffered injuries two months ago. It also had puss formation which had reached its lungs. The injury could have been caused due to infighting or piercing of tree branches.”

“There is also a burn on the ears. There is no clarity yet on the cause of the burns,” he added. But the report mentions that there are suspicions that the elephant was attacked with a petrol bomb. According to Zee News, the elephant was being cared for by a temporary forest watcher called Bellan. The wild elephant is reported to have shared a close bond with him and listened to his commands. Bellan is grief-stricken following his death.

Zee News reported that there was an injury to the elephant’s ear and there were suspicions that some of the elephant’s injuries were caused by miscreants.

“Our watchers noticed a deep hole(injury) in its back and thereafter we started feeding it fruits embedded with medicines. Once we tranquillized the elephant and treated it with antibiotics. There was some progress in the elephant’s condition gradually, but it always kept coming close to habitations and blocking the highways, without causing any harm,” Srikanth, Deputy Director of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Masinagudi area told Zee News.

Deputy Director of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve stated in a press note, “We received inputs and a video that shows the elephant getting injured by fire. Based on the proof today, we have apprehended two persons, Prasath and Raymond Dean, who are from Mavanallah. One more person, Ricky Ryan, is also involved in this case, and a case has been registered against these three. The third accused is not in town and so the two persons detained were arrested today and will be sent for remand.”
