PMC Bank scam: Another PMC bank depositor dies of heart attack, second death within a day

A depositor of troubled Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank, Fattomal Punjabi has died of a heart attack on Tuesday, making it two deaths of depositors with the bank within the span of a day.

Reportedly, Punjabi, who had an account with the PMC bank’s Mulund branch, was part of the recent protests against the bank. He had spoken about his financial troubles to his friends because of the curbs placed on withdrawals by the Reserve Bank of India.

Punjabi’s death comes just a day after another depositor named Sanjay Gulati had died of a heart attack in Mumbai after failing to withdraw his life savings of Rs 90 lakh from the bank. Sanjay Gulati was a former employee of the now-defunct Jet Airways. He held an account in the Oshiwara branch of PMC Bank.

The RBI has put PMC Bank under stringent directions since last month, wherein withdrawals for the depositors have been capped. The limits were later increased to Rs 40,000 by the RBI on Monday and the central bank said 77 per cent of the depositors were now able to fully withdraw their deposits after easing.

In another case, a 39-year-old doctor Nivedita Bijlani, a depositor with scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra (PMC) Bank has allegedly committed suicide at her residence in the Versova area of Mumbai, police said on Tuesday. However, the initial reports state that the suicide may not be related to the crisis at PMC Bank. “The cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained. She had an account in PMC Bank but we don’t think it (death) was related to the crisis in the bank,” he said.

Reportedly, Nivedita Bijlani, a doctor staying with her father in Versova’s Model Town area, committed suicide after consuming a heavy dose of sleeping pills on Monday night. Bijlani had deposits of over Rs 1 crore with the bank. It is reported that Bijlani was suffering from depression for the past few years and had reportedly tried to commit suicide in March last year in the United States.

What is PMC crisis?

The Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank is one of the largest cooperative banks, which was put under scrutiny by the Reserve Bank for fraud and misreporting of bad loans. Later, the bank had admitted that one large account, HDIL was the main reason for the current crisis.

Following this, the Mumbai Police’s EOW had arrested HDIL directors Sarang Wadhawan and Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan in connection with a fraud of over Rs 4,355 crores. According to the reports, PMC Bank officials gave loans to HDIL between the year 2008 and August 2019 despite the Wadhwans defaulting on previous loans. The Wadhawans along with other promoters including Waryam Singh have been sent to judicial custody till October 16.

NCP leader Praful Patel links to HDIL promoters:

On Tuesday, shocking details had emerged that had exposed links of former UPA Minister Praful Patel with HDIL promoters Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan, who are currently embroiled in the PMC Bank scam.

The new documents had shown NCP leader and former UPA era minister Praful Patel’s name in numerous passenger manifests of an airline owned by the Wadhawans. The documents revealed that former UPA minister Praful Patel had used private jets connected to PMC scam accused to travel to various destinations from Mumbai.

Ram Janmabhoomi Case: Supreme Court likely to conclude arguments today

The Supreme Court is likely to conclude hearing in the much anticipated Ram Janmabhoomi – Babri Masjid title suit on Wednesday. A five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi had earlier asked for parties to conclude their arguments in the land dispute case to be concluded by October 17.

Ahead of the final day of the arguments, the historical city of Ayodhya has been turned into a fortress with heightened security. The Ayodhya administration has imposed Section 144 in the area till December 10 in anticipation of the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid dispute verdict which is expected on November 17.

The bench also comprises of Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer, who are hearing appeals against the September 30, 2010, verdict of the Allahabad High Court.

The Allahabad High Court had delivered a judgement to divide the disputed 2.77 acres of land, including the spot where the Babri Masjid stood until December 6, 1992, and the area around it, equally among the Nirmohi Akhara, the Sunni Central Wakf Board, UP, and Ramlalla Virajman.

The Supreme Court has been carrying out day-to-day hearing of the case and the arguments were to be concluded by 18th October but then, October 17 was given the last date for arguments. The Supreme Court had earlier warned that the parties will not be given any extra day. Now it is likely that the arguments will be concluded today.

Chief Justice Gogoi had pointed out that the bench will have just have four weeks to write and deliver the judgment once arguments conclude. “It will be miraculous if the top court can write judgment in the remaining time given the amount of materials parties have given,” he said.

As CJI Gogoi ordered for the earliest completion of the arguments, an early Supreme Court decision on the issue of Ram temple can be expected. Incidentally, the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi’s term as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will come to end on November 17. Reportedly, there is a possibility that a decision may be taken in the Ram Temple case before the Chief Justice Gogoi retires.

Recently, senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, representing the Muslim parties had gone an apologising spree to the court after another advocate representing Muslim parties – Meenakshi Arora had questioned the ASI report.

The Supreme Court of India had lost its patience with the counsel representing parties in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case and had reprimanded them, particularly Rajeev Dhavan representing the Muslim parties for constantly repeating their arguments. Later, once again Rajiv Dhavan apologised for interrupting the other side from making any arguments.

Ambala: ‘Doorbell out of order, please chant Modi Modi’, people in Muslim neighbourhood put up posters outside their homes

As the campaign for the assembly elections in Haryana heats up, people in a Muslim locality in Ambala have used an innovative method to campaign for BJP. People in the area have pasted posters outside their houses saying ‘doorbell is out of order, to get the door opened please shout Modi-Modi’ in Hindi.

Talking to media about the posters, the Muslim people living in the area said that ahead of the elections on 21st October, candidates for the assembly constituency are visiting the households asking for their votes. The candidates and their representatives keep ringing the doorbells on the homes. Therefore the poster has been put for those candidates, so that they don’t press the doorbell, and doors will be opened only for those who chant Modi-Modi.

Women in the Muslim Basti said that the way Modi has passed the triple talaq bill, it is a very big issue for them. Because some people in their community used to divorce their wives even through phones using the practice of instant triple talaq as per Sharia laws, but this will not happen. They said that the incident of divorce will go down due to the fear of law and police.

On the other hand, others in the area said that they have put up the posters because their vote will be for Narendra Modi only. Modi has done a lot of work for them, hence they are supporting him, they said. Schemes launched by Modi government like Ayushman Scheme, Ujjwala scheme etc have benefitted them immensely, and their vote is for Modi only. Therefore, they don’t want candidates from any other party knocking at their doors asking for votes.

After links with Dawood Ibrahim established, Praful Patel defends D-Company, calls them ‘tax payers’ not terrorists

Hours after the Enforcement Directorate established links between the UPA era Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel and Dawood’s aide Iqbal Memon alias ‘Mirchi’ after they zeroed in the properties of Memon, Praful Patel has spoken in defence of D-company calling them ‘tax-payers’ and not terrorists.

Today the NCP leader and former Union Minister Praful Patel addressed a  press conference, where he was heard defending Hajrah Memon, wife of Iqbal Mirchi by saying that if the government agencies had any reason to believe that Hajrah Memon was an undesirable person, it should have been duly notified then. In her defence, Praful Patel audaciously goes on to say that Hajrah is an “income tax-payer” hinting that she, who is actually the kin of the key aide of the fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, is a law-abiding citizen of India.

Defending his signatures on the documents accessed by ED that linked him to Iqbal Memon, Praful Patel goes on to say that in 2007 the Supreme Court had restored Hajrah Memon’s passport and lifted travel restrictions on Hajra Memon indicating that she was not a terrorist but an ordinary citizen.

This statement is extremely caustic and blatant considering UPA had earlier argued that Hajrah Memon was a ‘national security risk’.

Meanwhile, yesterday, OpIndia had accessed documents which validated NCP leader and former Union Minister Praful Patel’s financial dealings and direct links with one of the most wanted criminals Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.

We had earlier reported regarding the massive crackdown launched by Enforcement Directorate on the properties linked to Iqbal Memon alias ‘Mirchi’, who had in turn linked to former UPA-era civil aviation minister Praful Patel and his wife Varsha Patel through property deals.

The ED came to know of such a link between Praful Patel and Dawood’s aide Memon after they had zeroed in the properties of Memon alias ‘Mirchi’. While tracking Mirchi’s business ventures and properties in India and the UK, the ED has discovered links with a firm that is linked to Praful Patel and his wife Varsha Patel.

According to the list of Mirchi’s properties located in India and the UK, A 15-story building in Dr Annie Besant Road, Worli, named ‘Ceejay House’ was constructed as a JV between Mirchi and M/S Millenium Developers Pvt Ltd in 2006-07. In 2007, the third and fourth floors of the building were given to Mirchi’s family by Millenium Developers.

Former Union Minister Praful Patel and his wife Varsha Patel own a significant number of shares in Millenium Developers Pvt Ltd. In the documents, the 12th floor of the CeeJay House is mentioned as the address of Praful and Varsha Patel. It is notable here that NCP leader Praful Patel’s family owns the CeeJay Group, a large tobacco conglomerate in India.

The revelations followed the arrest of Mirchi’s two close aides — former chairman of Sir Mohammed Yusuf Trust Haroun Yusuf and real-estate broker Ranjeet Singh Bindra. The ED arrested them on Friday.

The ED has named Mirchi as an international drug dealer, smuggler, extortionist and criminal involved in anti-national interest. In 2004, Mirchi was listed as one of the foreign drug kingpins by the US state department. He had an Interpol red corner notice against him. Mirchi had died in the UK on 14 August 2013.

Mirchi and his family members had amassed huge wealth in India and abroad. The family had fled to Dubai and had shifted their empire overseas. Haroun Yusuf, chairman of Mirchi’s trust has been named by ED as the facilitator of many of the shady property deals. The ED has listed 25 properties in the UK owned by Mirchi’s family and business partners.

West Bengal: Governor Jagdeep Dhankar says he felt humiliated at a Durga Puja carnival hosted by CM Mamata Banerjee

The West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar today said he felt “humiliated, deeply pained and disturbed” by the treatment meted out to him at a Durga Puja carnival hosted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjpJvrzC1Fo]

According to reports, the Governor was offended as he was not seated at the main dias along with other guests at the event to showcase the top 70 puja pandals in the state capital.

Dhankhar complained that he did not get any media coverage. “Was not shown on TV for even a second”, said the miffed Governor. He also complained that though he spent four hours watching the carnival from beginning to end, he was not shown even once on the multi-camera footage that was beamed out from the event by a government-appointed agency.

Hinting that the local media is a puppet in the hands of the WB government said: “We’ll be disregarding what Rabindranath Tagore told us that fear is the first killer of democracy and media is the ultimate saviour of democracy”.

Should there be silence over it? Should there not have been a reaction about it? Dhankar told media urging them to investigate every aspect as to why this happened and why was there no outrage about this humiliation meted out to him.

Though Dhankhar did not name anyone but left little doubt that the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government had shown him great discourtesy. “This bad taste in my mouth by people who perhaps do not have the mindset and large heart that people of West Bengal have”, said the disgruntled Governor.

“I felt insulted at the carnival. I am deeply hurt and disturbed. The insult was not to me but to every people of West Bengal. They will never digest such as insult. I am a servant of the people of West Bengal. Nothing can deter me from performing my constitutional duties,” Dhankhar told reporters today.

In a tremoring voice, the Governor said: “For four hours or more I was there and your press coverage was totally blacked out…This is unheard of. You will never find it anywhere else. Someone told me it was reminiscent of the Emergency.”

“Not for a second was the first servant shown on TV. What happened has put me to shame because no person in Bengal will approve of it.” He said it took him three days to recover from this “injury ” to his heart.

Calling it a painful moment of his life Dhankhar said: “I will be there despite the insult because I have to recognize the talent of the people of West Bengal. I have to suffer for them, I will suffer. If I have to suffer more insults, more affronts…This bad taste in my mouth has been created by people who perhaps do not have the mindset and the large heart that people of West Bengal have…I appreciate this discourteous approach by the government for the first servant. I’m sure they’ll do soul searching and make amends.”

It has been reported that the Governor was made to sit at a separate podium, which was adjacent to the main seating area where TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and other celebrities were sitting.

“His seating arrangement was not proper considering his position. He was facing a lot of obstructions as people kept coming in front of his podium, causing difficulty for the Governor to have a clear view. During his four hour visit to the carnival, he was completely blacked out. No one showed his presence at the event,” sources at Raj Bhawan, the official residence of the Governor, said.

The humiliation meted out to the Governor is quite foreseeable, as Dhankhar has been involved in a face-off with the Mamata Banerjee-led government in the past as well.

The governor had slammed the West Bengal government after the triple murder in Murshidabad, saying the crime reflected the state’s law and order situation.

Prior to this, Mamata’s government had accused him of being “politically biased” after Dhankhar had rushed in to rescue Union minister Babul Supriyo, who was heckled at Jadavpur University (JU) by students belonging to Left-affiliated organisations.

Mamata Banerjee has in the past too displayed similar arrogance by disrespecting the preceding governor as well.

In the backdrop of the surging incidents of post-poll violence in the state, the former West Bengal Governor, Keshari Nath Tripathi had called an all-party meeting on June 13, Thursday at 4 pm at Governor’s house. Tripathi has sent a letter to all prominent political parties in Bengal including ruling party TMC, BJP, Congress and Left, urging them to attend the meet, but Mamata had rudely declined to go for the all-party meeting and humiliated the Governor by calling him BJP’ mouthpiece.

Uttar Pradesh: Government school children forced to recite Islamic prayer, principal Furkan Ali suspended after complaint

0

In Pilibhit town of Uttar Pradesh, a case of forcible imposition of Islamic prayer on Hindu children has come to fore. The principal of Ghyaspur Primary School II, Furkan Ali is accused of foisting Islamic prayer on the children studying in the school.

A few days ago, a video of school children reciting Islamic prayer had gone viral. Following this, workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal registered their protest to the District SDM. Taking cognizance of the complaint of Hindu organizations, the principal was suspended. Now the SDM has entrusted the investigation of the entire matter to the Block Education Officer Upendra Vishwakarma.

However, according to Furkan Ali, all the allegations against him are baseless. He claimed that Saraswati Vandana continues to be recited in the school, but because 90 percent of the children in the school are Muslims, recital of Islamic prayer was started based on students’ insistence.

The suspended principal Furkan Ali said in his defence that along with Saraswati Vandana, Islamic prayer is also being chanted. “The school has children from both Hindu and Muslim communities. That is why I have been doing this prayer since 2011. This prayer has also appeared in the book of the council school. Unilateral action has been initiated against me without listening to my defence,” he said.

Source: Report published in Dainik Jagran

It is notable that the statements made by Furkan Ali put the role of the officers of the department under the scanner. Questions are arising as to when officials used to inspect the school all these years, why this matter did not come to light earlier.

Earlier in 2011, some children had lodged a complaint with their parents on the inclusion of madarsa prayers in the school. However, when the parents conveyed their strong objection about it to the school authorities, their complaint was ignored. Apart from this, the most surprising thing in the whole case is that the office of Block Education Officer is right next to the school and yet he knew nothing about prayers taught in madarsa were being imposed on the government school children.

With the video now going viral on social media, the local authorities seem to suppress the case. According to the information received, just 10 days ago Hindu Vahini activists reached the District SDM about the case and informed them about the whole episode. Now, based on this complaint, Furkan Ali has been suspended.

India’s share of water going to Pakistan will be stopped and diverted for the farmers in India: PM Modi in Haryana

0

In his campaign trail in Haryana, PM Modi once again reiterated his government’s stance vis-a-vis rivers flowing towards Pakistan. PM Modi announced that the waters of the river flowing towards Pakistan will be diverted and utilised for the farmers in Haryana, Rajasthan and other states of India.

In reference to the Indus Water Treaty that allowed water distribution from 6 rivers between India and Pakistan, PM Modi said, “People of Haryana, trust me, Indian farmers’ legitimate share of water, Haryana farmers’ legitimate share of water, that was  going to Pakistan for the last 70 years will be stopped. I will stop the water and divert it to your houses. I have already initiated the work in this direction because Indian farmers have right over this water, framers of Haryana, Rajasthan have right over this water.”

PM Modi also lauded daughters of Haryana citing his recently concluded informal meeting with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping. PM Modi said that in the informal summit held in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, Xi Jinping told him that he had watched the Aamir Khan-starrer “Dangal” “which showcased excellent performance of daughters of India”.

“During my recent informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said to me that he had seen ‘Dangal’ which showcased excellent performance of daughters of India. I felt really proud of Haryana on hearing this,” he said.

Training the guns at Congress, PM Modi launched a blistering attack against the party asserting that the grand old party is indulging in rumour-mongering with regards to Article 370. “At a time when the country is hailing the decision to repeal Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, a few Congress leaders have gone against it and are spreading rumours in the country and across the world,” he said.

PM Modi also added that the abrogation of Article 370 will pave the way for successful and complete integration of the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Union and the region will now see fast-paced development and prosperity.

Scott Greer rants against India: Know who this white supremacist discarded by American conservatives is

Former Daily Caller editor Scott Greer has been engaging in racist rants against ‘Indian Twitter’ for the past few days. The author of the book ‘No Campus for White Men’, he was forced to delete a tweet that spoke of ‘owning’ Indian Twitter because it featured an image contained the Hindu Swastika.

Image

One Twitter user, who tweets under the username @Ritwik_Jha_, dug into his past and discovered rather interesting secrets about his past conduct. As it so happens, Greer has an extremely chequered past. It was first reported by The Atlantic. He was forced to sever all ties with the Daily Caller after it was revealed that he once wrote for the White Supremacist Radix Journal founded by Richard Spencer, universally acknowledged to be a racist clown. Spencer was accused last year by his wife of emotional and physical abuse, including choking her, dragging her by her hair and attempting to punch her while she was pregnant, according to divorce filings in the Flathead county district court in Montana.

Greer wrote under the pseudonym of  “Michael McGregor”. He was writing for the White Supremacist journal while working for the Daily Caller. He was forced to issue a statement over the matter. However, the statement showed no shame or regret. “In my early twenties when it appeared our only mainstream options were Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton, I was attracted to more radical ideas and expressed them under the name Michael McGregor at Radix Journal,” Greer wrote.

“As the political situation has evolved in recent years, so have my views. That said, I do not apologize for honestly stating what I believed to be correct at the time, unless everyone must apologize every time they change their opinion. I stopped writing for Radix in 2015. My tweets and Daily Caller columns are my honest views. The Daily Caller was unaware of my outside writings. I already stepped down as an editor from The Daily Caller in June to focus on writing a book. I am now resigning any affiliation with The Caller. However, I will continue to promote my views without any shame or regret.”

In a racist post for Radix, Greer wrote, “Cops are now the preferred scapegoats for the sole reason that they are the symbols of a justice system Blacks hate, a justice system Blacks want undermined for their benefit. However, this justice system has to be harsh on Blacks in order to preserve stability and a measure of safety in a multiracial state. The current campaign against tough policing, if successful, would effectively turn any city with a large percentage of Blacks into a third world hellhole.”

In another post, he wrote, “Running backs, wide receivers, and most defensive roles are seemingly reserved for Blacks only. If you’re a White guy at any of those positions, the odds are stacked against you for getting noticed by the big college programs. No matter how talented you are, you aren’t Black.”

Greer has also blamed Jews for antisemitism. According to him antisemitism is a consequence of “the Jewish role in promoting the root causes of this problem through their support of mass immigration, multiculturalism, and hate speech laws that only go after Whites.” He sneered upon the Christian zionists for their “worship of Jews borders on fetishization and naturally incites hatred for the root cultures of European peoples.”

Denouncing gender equality, he claimed it “will make women more determined to pursue ambitions that will make them miserable, turn men into eunuchs, and allow for the continuing growth of non-White hordes in formerly White countries.” About sexual consent laws in California, he claimed: “while sex laws become more draconian for White men and they are further assaulted for trying to be men, the more virile Arabs, Blacks, and Hispanics that are swarming into our countries will continue to victimize our people.”

Greer also urged Whites to become ‘identitarians’. He wrote, “Whites have become the willing slaves of the system–and we must the break chains that bind us. We must become Identitarians. The primary purpose of Identitarianism must be the preservation of our identity–the cultural and genetic heritage that makes us who we are. […] Instead of wanting to restore America to some imagined version of itself, we should seek to create the Ethnostate. The Ethnostate, unlike America, would not be based on the trinity of values that leads white people to commit self-genocide. It would be a state that is explicitly for whites and by whites. It would carry on our tradition and foster our culture in the New World.”

Greer was exposed earlier in a report by the Southern Poverty Law Center, an often deranged far-left loony organization that considers everyone to the Left of Stalin to be ‘literally Hitler’. The SPLC chanced upon photos of Greer in the company of White Nationalists wearing a T-shirt of Youth for Western Civilization (YWC), a white nationalist organization. Owing to the discredited reputation of SPLC itself, it wasn’t taken too seriously at the time.

Ironically enough, one of the co-founders of the Daily Caller, where Scott Greer worked and earned his bread and butter from, is an American of Indian origin: Neil Patel. Following the report by The Atlantic, Patel said the Caller was skeptical of the SPLC report the previous year “because of their history of unfair attacks,” and had asked Greer about the group’s findings, which he denied. “We had two choices: Fire a young man because of some photos taken of him at metal shows in college, or take his word. We chose to trust him,” Patel said. “Now, if what you allege is accurate, we know that trust was a mistake, we know he lied to us. We won’t publish him, anyone in these circles, or anyone who thinks like them. People who associate with these losers have no business writing for our company.”

As has become evident from his conduct on Twitter the past few days, the opinions of Scott Greer haven’t really changed since the time he wrote for the White Supremacist journal. Despite being a White Supremacist, he surely didn’t have much objection on relying on a media outlet co-founded by an Indian-origin American for his bread and butter. As is obvious, Greer has since then been totally shunned by mainstream American conservatives and been relegated to the fringes of political discussion.

Illegal Rohingya immigrants pose serious threat to national security, India should never let them in

0

In the past two years the Rohingyas – a minority Muslim ethnicity residing in the Rakhine state of Buddhist majority Myanmar – have dominated the world news. Global media, human rights organisations and Islamic ummah have poured their heart in support of Rohingyas; highlighted the ‘atrocities’ committed upon them and fired all kinds of demagoguery to make Myanmar’s Buddhist state look like authoritarian desuetude with no morality and filled with a plethora of ‘islamophobia’. Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi – a Nobel Peace price laureate – was criticised across the globe for letting the military fight against Rohingya militants of Rakhine state.

Rohingyas for years are nationless ethnicity and have been called by UN as ‘among the world’s least wanted’. There are around 2 million Rohingyas around the world – 1.3 million and 400k of them being in Bangladesh and Myanmar respectively – hovering amidst the uncertainty of their citizenship. Myanmar, after August 25, 2017, started a brutal crackdown of the Rohingyas in their traditional backyard of the Rakhine state after a terrorist attack on police forces by a radical militant wing of the Rohingyas – the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). The crackdown resulted in the migration of more than 7,00,000 Rohingyas into neighbouring Bangladesh and India. The Rohingyas were subjected to ‘genocidal’ crimes, in words of UN. The crisis was termed as ‘textbook example of ethnic cleansing’.

The Rohingya crisis, for entire 2017 and 2018, had captured the global limelight and dominated international coverages. Termed as ‘crime against humanity,’ the issue stained Myanmar’s relations with the world. Intellectuals from every corner started schooling Myanmar government on morality and humanity. The world had its guns – of various forms depending on gunner – pointed at Myanmar’s head for pushing ‘innocent’, as they say, Rohingyas into crisis. UN held that Myanmar military must be tried for crimes committed against Rohingyas. Canada ripped Aung San Suu Kyi of her honorary Canadian citizenship. Just months ago, US sanctioned or banned Myanmar’s military general. Collateral reputation damage reached even India and the UN, global human rights organisations and international media asked India to accept Rohingyas into its fold as refugees. And when India decided to deport 40,000 illegal Rohingyas to Bangladesh, the world got rattled and started bibbing their bits of moral superiority from the chalices of criticism.

Also Read: Illegal Rohingya immigrants reach as far as Ladakh, agencies suspect local support

Indeed, Rohingyas have been subjected to extreme brutality and hatred at the hands of Myanmar military. As per a report, 24,000 Rohingyas were killed, 18,000 Rohingya women were subjected to sexual violence and rape, 1,15,000 homes were burned down, and 36,000 Rohingyas were thrown into the fire as a result of Myanmar military’s crackdown. By various estimates, around 7,00,000 to 7,50,000 Rohingyas crossed into Bangladesh and India for refuge. Despite the shaggy reliability of the reports documenting casualties in Rohingya crisis – which were termed by Myanmar government as ‘false’ and ‘incorrect’ – it is no fallacy that the crisis has destroyed lives of many Rohingyas and has dented the human values.

But despite their sufferings there remains a fundamental aspect in Rohingyas spawning a proclivity of repulsion against them in India. Rohingyas have not been all innocent as proclaimed by the global stakeholders and harbingers of humanity. Being true to their banal nature, international media has, deliberately or ignorantly, veiled the other side of Rohingyas. For India – which is host to more than 40,000 illegal Rohingya immigrants – it’s of great importance to clear the smog and walk the path of clarity and reality.

Background to Rohingya Duplicitousness

Adding background to their nature, these are the same Rohingyas who approached Mohammad Ali Jinnah – the radical Islamist politician who divided India by instilling the religious extremism – with a request of merger of Rohingya dominated areas into Pakistan. Few townships of Rakhine were Rohingya Muslim dominated and Rohingya leaders had approached Jinnah with a hope of ‘liberation’ from Buddhist Myanmar and merger with Islamic Pakistan. Jinnah had rejected Rohingya plea avoiding possible British annoyance.

Few months after Pakistan’s godfather Jinnah’s rejection of Rohingya proposal, Rohingyas formed a militant organisation to wage jihad against peace-loving Buddhist population of Myanmar and pan-Islamise the entire Rakhine region. They committed atrocities and resorted to burning and looting. The militants targeted Rakhine Buddhist interests as well as the government, quickly seizing control of large parts of the north and expelling many Buddhist villagers. But the Buddhists rather than being cowed down, decided to retaliate and ensured that the Rohingya Muslims are unable to change the geography of the region. Having failed to realise their dream of a separate nation, Rohingya Muslims started seeking Burmese citizenship.

In 1974, inspired by the rise of pan-Islamist movements in the world and driven by the fundamentally radical ideology, Rohingyas formed the Rohingya Patriotic Front – an extremists armed group to wage war against Myanmar’s Buddhists and Hindus. Few years later it split into several factions, one of the more radical of which became the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) armed group in 1982. The RSO split in 1986, giving rise to the Arakan Rohingya Islamic Front (ARIF) fraction; in 1998, the two groups formed a loose alliance, the Arakan Rohingya National Organisation.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the RSO had small bases in remote parts of Bangladesh near the Myanmar border but was not thought to have any inside Myanmar. In its highest-profile attack in April 1994, several dozen militants entered Maungdaw from Bangladesh, including a group landed by boat in Myin Hlut village-tract, south Maungdaw. On 28 April, bombs they planted in Maungdaw town caused damage and several civilian injuries, and Rohingya militants then followed up with attacks on the town’s outskirts.

Later in 1992, Rohingyas were declared non-nationals by Myanmar’s government, leading to a crackdown by the Myanmar military. The crackdown caused migration of many Rohingyas to other countries, majority of them resorting in Bangladesh’s Cox bazar; where they were easily radicalised on the basis of religion, they became cannon fodder for global jihadi groups. In a well-hatched conspiracy and masterly executed plan, they were also infiltrated illegally to India through porous border with Bangladesh. One of the destinations of the illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants was Jammu, a sensitive Hindu-majority border town already facing the brunt of a demographic invasion from north of Pir Panjal and ISI-sponsored jihadi terror. The reason for selecting Jammu was in consonance with the earlier stated two-fold mission of the ISI.

The militancy and radicalisation only upsurged since then leading to recruitment of several Rohingyas into the extremist fold of jihadi ummah. Many researchers have highlighted the rise in the radicalisation of Rohingyas aided by foreign players mainly from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. In May 2015 a JSTOR research paper titled ‘Myanmar at the crossroads: Shadows of jihadi extremism’ informed about the upsurge flow of jihadi extremist ideology in Muslims of Myanmar aided by the network of terrorist organisations. The study mentioned the harsh sectarian conflict in Myanmar along with threats posed by local insurgent groups, including the probability that these groups might attempt to link up with jihadist terrorist groups like ISIS. JSTOR highlighted the emerging dangers deriving from the intensification of the use of social media networks by jihadist extremists to expand their influence and spread their caliphate ideology.

Along with this, in December 2016 a Crisis group paper had reported about the rise of ‘new Muslim insurgency in the Rakhine state’ citing on the basis of developments including militant attacks on Myanmar security forces on 9th October and 12th of November, 2016. The report called it a violence ‘qualitatively different from anything in recent decades’ which, it added, ‘seriously threatens the prospects of stability and development in the state and has serious implications for Myanmar as a whole.’  Since 9 October, several hundred young Rohingya men from Bangladesh have joined the fight. However, the main fighting force is made up of Muslim villagers in northern Rakhine State who have been given basic training and organised into village-level cells to limit risks of compromise. These are mostly led by young Islamic clerics (known as “Mullahs” or “Maulvis”) or scholars (“Hafiz”) from those villages.

Massacre of Myanmar’s Hindus at the hands of Rohingyas

The Rohingyas – who are revered in India by the liberal, commie, Islamist brigade as innocent and hapless – are just another group of veiled jihadis who, at the right opportunity, would massacre every non-Muslim in their path. The quintessential practical example of this vindictive nature of Rohingyas is the recent massacre of innocent Hindus of Myanmar in 2017. Amnesty international in 2018 reported that Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) – the militant terrorist wing of Rohingyas – massacred up to 99 Hindu women, men, and children as well as additional unlawful killings and abductions of Hindu villagers in August 2017.

Based on dozens of interviews conducted there and across the border in Bangladesh, as well as photographic evidence analysed by forensic pathologists, the organisation revealed how Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) fighters sowed fear among Hindus and other ethnic communities with these brutal attacks.

At around 8 am on 25 August 2017, ARSA attacked the Hindu community in the village of Ah Nauk Kha Maung Seik, in a cluster of villages known as Kha Maung Seik in northern Maungdaw Township. Armed men dressed in black and local Rohingya villagers in plain clothes rounded up dozens of Hindu women, men and children. They robbed, bound, and blindfolded them before marching them to the outskirts of the village, where they separated the men from the women and young children. A few hours later, the ARSA fighters killed 53 of the Hindus, execution-style, starting with the men.

Eight Hindu women and eight of their children were abducted and spared, after ARSA fighters forced the women to agree to “convert” to Islam. The survivors were forced to flee with the fighters to Bangladesh several days later, before being repatriated to Myanmar in October 2017 with the support of the Bangladeshi and Myanmar authorities.

Bina Bala, a 22-year-old woman who survived the massacre, told Amnesty International:

“[The men] held knives and long iron rods. They tied our hands behind our backs and blindfolded us. I asked what they were doing. One of them replied, ‘You and Rakhine are the same, you have a different religion, you can’t live here. He spoke the [Rohingya] language. They asked what belongings we had, then they beat us. Eventually, I gave them my gold and money.”

According to a detailed list of the dead, given to Amnesty International, the victims from Ah Nauk Kha Maung Seik include 20 men, 10 women, and 23 children, 14 of whom were under the age of eight. This is consistent with multiple testimonies the organisation gathered in both Bangladesh and Myanmar, from survivors and witnesses as well as Hindu community leaders.

The same day, all of the 46 Hindu men, women, and children in the neighbouring village of Ye Bauk Kyar disappeared. Members of the Hindu community in northern Rakhine State presume the community was killed by the same ARSA fighters. Combined with those from Ah Nauk Kha Maung Seik, the total death toll is believed to be 99.

The bodies of 45 people from Ah Nauk Kha Maung Seik were unearthed in four mass graves in late September 2017. The remains of the rest of the victims from that village, as well as all 46 from Ye Bauk Kyar, have not been found to date.

The bone-chilling report unearthed the dark hatred against Hindus in the minds of Rohingyas and gave voice to the dead. The dead man tells no tales as they say but they certainly tell about the killer who killed them. Dead Hindus of Rakhine are the testimony to the extent of extremism and terrorism Rohingyas can reach.

Rohingya links to Pakistani terror outfits

Rohingyas have a link with global jihadi outfits. Even Al Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden, in an interview to a Karachi-based newspaper, Ummat, had referred to Burma where a strong jihadi force existed. It is not surprising, therefore, that the Rohingyas have the support of Kashmiri terrorists. Zakir Musa, the self- styled commander of Al Qaeda affiliate, Ansar Ghazwat-Ul-Hind, in a 10-minute audio message, released on YouTube channel Ansar Ghazwa, warned the Government against deporting Rohingya Muslims in Jammu.

Incidentally, Rohingyas are also affiliated to a Bangladesh-based outfit, the Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir (ICS), a militant arm of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and are responsible for launching violent street demonstrations, attacking security forces, secular political rivals and secular individuals.

In July 2018, Economic Times reported little-known Rohingya terror group Aqa Mul Mujahideen or HaY (Harakah al-Yaqin is called Aqa Mul Mujahideen by Myanmar government) blamed for the recent attacks on Myanmar border outposts by the country’s president not only maintains links with Hafiz Saeed’s Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) but is learnt to have developed ties with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) cell in Jammu and Kashmir.

Aqa Mul Mujahideen (AMM) leaders were trained in Pakistan and they later recruited Rohingya youth in Rakhine region of Myanmar. AMM is a new armed group that originated from Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami Arakan (HUJI-A).  The current HUJI-A chief Abdus Qadoos Burmi, a Pakistani national of Rohingya origin, who it is claimed recruited one Hafiz Tohar from Maungdaw in Myanmar. Tohar is now said to be heading the AMM and Qadoos Burmi is reported to be close to Saeed. Saeed’s other terror group, Jamat ud Dawa (JuDD)’s humanitarian arm, Falah-e-Insaniat (FiF), was active in Rohingya relief camps in Rakhine State after the 2012 riots.

Their illegal migration to India and the decision to settle in any part of the country is being masterminded by a core group, created by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The ISI’s intention is two-fold: First, to spread fundamentalism in areas they settle and thereafter, use them for pan-Islamisation of the region. Second, to foment political and religious fights to force the exodus of Hindus to alter the regional demography. Rohingya connection with the global jihad network and Pakistan’s ISI are pellucid and unambiguously established, hence assuming the Rohingya possess a tenebrous anti-Hindu hatred and radical mentality won’t be wrong.

Rohingyas, apart from their hapless side, also possess a dark malevolent side. The fundamentals of Rohingyas are no different than those of terrorists in Pakistan fuelled by the common ideological fire of waging jihad and establishing an Islamic state. The influx of Rohingyas in India, from India’s national security point of view, is dangerous and calamitous. Their affiliation to Pakistani terror outfits, history of extremism and the recent massacre of innocent Hindus by them bears testimony to the vindictive side of Rohingyas. These are exactly sufficing reasons why India should never let the Rohingyas in.

Do you fly pollution-free planes? Fireworks company ‘thrashes’ SpiceJet’s ‘No-crackers Diwali’ banner

A SpiceJet banner pontificating about ‘cracker-free Diwali’ put up at the baggage screening counter of a particular airport has miffed the firework manufacturing company Sri Kaliswari Fireworks Private Limited which manufactures crackers under the trademark ‘Cock Brand’.

The company has shared an amusing Facebook post asking whether the airlines thinks their planes run on ‘green or white patrol’.

The Facebook post by Shri Kaliswari Fireworks

The fireworks company posted the picture of the SpiceJet banner which read: ‘No crackers, let’s celebrate a pollution-free Diwali’ and asked the airlines to thrash their planes to the garbage and then come to advise people. In the post, the firework company asked the airlines whether their planes run on white petrol or green petrol and whether they fly pollution-free planes?

“How dare you to talk about our fireworks industry? Why cannot you stop your business, thrash your planes to the garbage and then come to advise people? Do you know Co2 emission caused by air travel is 285 gms per passenger-km? compared to that of rail travel is just 14 gms? Shall we place such banners before your offices? Don’t spoil other industries for your promotion.”

In 2018, just before Diwali, the Supreme Court had banned manufacturing of polluting firecrackers and ruled that only green crackers with reduced emission will be allowed to be sold in the country in order to control the pollution level. The apex court had also restricted the time that crackers could be burst on Diwali and police officials were tasked with enforcement.

Now, a year after the ban, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Saturday launched eco-friendly ‘green firecrackers’, which have been manufactured in India, noting that the step will help control pollution as well as take care of people’s sentiments.

Addressing an event by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) where the crackers prepared by its labs were displayed, the Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan said: “I am very happy that on one hand, we would be using eco-friendly crackers this Diwali, and, on the other hand, our traditional festival celebrations with lights and firecrackers shall remain intact. Millions of homes which are dependent on the sale and manufacture of fireworks will also rejoice this festival, thanks to our scientists!”

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan also launched the green crackers manufactured by licensee-manufacturers. He also informed that a green logo as well as a Quick Response (QR) coding system has been developed for differentiation of green crackers from conventional crackers.

The Health Minister stated that due to the ban that had been imposed as per the orders of the Supreme Court, there was a threat of imminent closure of the entire fireworks industry. However, Science has once again come to the rescue of the common man and millions of jobs have been saved due to the interventions made by our scientists.

Praising the effort of CSIR in developing green crackers, the Minister informed that nearly 165 fireworks manufacture have been roped in and around 65 more manufacturers are in the process of coming on board.

The festival of lights, Diwali, will be celebrated in India on 27th October this year.
