Mumbai: Israeli consulate organises discussion on ‘Zionism and Hindutva’, the left has a meltdown

An event was organized on the 26th of August at the Convocation Hall of the Mumbai University by the Indo-Israel Friendship Association along with the Consulate General of Israel. A discussion was held on the Leaders’ Idea of Nations in the context of Zionism and Hindutva.

The event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP from the BJP, Subramanian Swamy, and Historian Gadi Taub. The discussion was moderated by a Times of India columnist. For some inexplicable reason, the event was protested by Disha Students’ Organization, unheard of until now. From the pictures the organization posted on its Facebook page, it appears that the protest was attended by hardly 10 people at the most. Even that appears to be an exaggeration.

Considering the fact that the protest was minuscule, one would have expected the media to ignore it completely. However, mid-day.com decided to report on the matter although there are far more news-worthy incidents that occur every single day in this country. It also appears rather disconcerting that the headline of the report read, “Students protest against Mumbai University’s ‘support’ to Hindutva talk”.

It was just a bunch of 10 people at most registering an insignificant protest over the matter, claiming that ‘students’ protested against the event, which carries the implicit assumption that the protest had widespread support among the student fraternity, appears to be rather inaccurate, to put it mildly.

Reportedly, the organization had demanded that the event be cancelled. In a memorandum, it stated, “Mumbai University is organising a seminar on ‘Zionism and Hindutva’ on August 26. This could be seen as a continuation of the process of saffronisation of the education system.”

The President of the organisation, Baban Thoke, an M. Phil student at Mumbai University, told the media outlet, “Savarkar placed the stepping stone to Hindutva philosophy. And because of this philosophy mob lynching is happening across the country leading to communal tension. Even in Israel, Theodor Herzl introduced the philosophy of Zionism. Because of this Israel managed to capture the land of Arabs and continues to subjugate the people of Palestine even today. Such seminars are just strengthening this ideology. We need to stand against them.”

Quite obviously, when the MU Registrar, Ajay Deshmukh, was contacted by mid-day, he sounded visibly irritated. He told them, “These allegations are completely baseless. Neither did the university organise the programme nor is it associated with it in any way. As a usual practice, the Convocation Hall was rented out to a third party for the event. There was absolutely no reason for the students to protest against it and question the varsity’s intentions.”

As it turns out, these people weren’t the only ones protesting. Certain academics, too, have registered their protest over the event. In a statement, signed by about 50 of them, the academics had said, “On the 26th of August, the Consulate General of Israel in Mumbai will host an event on Hindutva and Zionism in the Convocation Hall of Mumbai University. The speakers at this event are Gadi Taub of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a known advocate of Zionism, and Rajya Sabha MP of the Bharatiya Janta Party, Subramanian Swamy. A barely known organization called Indo-Israel Friendship Association is a co-organizer of this event. The poster of the event features the proponents of both supremacist ideologies- Theodor Herzl and VD Savarkar.”

These academics calling the Indo-Israel Friendship Association ‘barely known’ in an apparent insult appears rather ironical because the academics themselves are even less known.

They go on to state, “Zionism is a racist ideology calling for a settler-colonial, apartheid state where non-Jews have unequal rights, and in practice, has been premised on the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians for the last seven decades. Hindutva, its mirror image, is a supremacist ideology that calls for a nation of Hindus, where all other communities have to be relegated to an unequal status through suppression. At the centre of growing ties between the Modi regime and Israel is the collusion of these ideologies.”

Intriguingly, Sabrang India, an organization associated with the highly controversial activist Teesta Setalvad, too, objected to the event. In an article posted on its website, the organization said, “All masks are off and all veneers discarded- the Consulate General of Israel in Mumbai along with one Indo-Israel Friendship Association is organising a public discussion on Hindutva and Zionism on August 26th, at the Convocation Hall of University of Mumbai.”

CounterCurrents, another far-left portal, too published a lengthy essay over the entire matter conveying their obvious objection to the event. It said, “On 26th August 2019 The Consulate General of Israel in Mumbai, along with one Indo-Israel Friendship Association, is organising a public discussion on “Leaders’ Idea of Nations in the Context of Zionism and Hindutva” at the Convocation Hall of University of Mumbai. The poster of the event displays images of Theodor Herzl and V.D. Savarkar. This is only an expression of the ongoing relationship between Zionists and Hindutvawadis.”

It is not a secret that the relationship between India and Israel has improved immensely since Narendra Modi assumed the Prime Minister’s office. However, the leftist portals and ‘intellectuals’ having such a meltdown against an event that intended to discuss the ideological premises of the two oldest religions of the world is not just amusing, but also another reminder of the left’s intellectual bankruptcy.

Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu haven’t shied away from acknowledging their friendship in public. Thus, it appears to be only natural that such events, as the one organized by the two Israeli organizations, have increased one frequency. It is indeed weird to watch the Left suffer a meltdown over it. Even more so, the fact that the Mid-Day thought the protest, which doesn’t appear to have been attended by more than 10 people, was some significant protest by students of Mumbai University is quite amusing indeed.

Supreme Court grants P Chidambaram interim protection from arrest by ED till Wednesday

The Supreme Court, hearing the petition of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram seeking protection from the arrest, has said that he cannot be arrested by the Enforcement Department till Wednesday.

The senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, who is in the CBI’s custody currently, will remain in the agency’s custody at least till Friday. However, former Finance Minister Chidambaram is also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate and he has sought protection from arrest as ED is also seeking custodial interrogation.

Chidambaram’s legal counsel had demanded that the Enforcement Directorate produce the transcript of their questioning session with the senior Congress leader. The lawyers claim that the transcripts will be evidence to prove that he was not evasive but ED did not ask him the right questions. The investigative agency was bent on extracting a confession from the 73-year-old, Abhishek Manu Singhvi claimed.

The CBI which arrested the former minister last week had applied for an extension of his custody, and a Delhi court had extened the custody by 4 days. The agency had contended that Chidambaram was not co-operative with the investigation and that they need more time to question him.

Earlier, Chidambaram was questioned in the INX Media case on three occasions. He has challenged the decision to arrest him, claiming that he had answered to all their questions and the transcripts will prove that.

Appearing on behalf of Mr Chidambaram, senior advocate Kapil Sibal asked a bench of Justices R Banumathi and AS Bopanna to order the agency to produce the transcripts of the questioning conducted on December 19 last year, January 1 and 21 this year.

He added that the agencies are just producing documents at random and saying this is part of the case diary. They cannot place the documents behind the back and seek custody of accused, said Kapil Sibal.

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the case against P Chidambaram has been incorrect since the beginning. He added that Enforcement Directorate can not compel Chidambaram to answer.

“Chidambaram said he doesn’t have a bank account abroad and that his son Karti Chidambaram has a foreign account with the permission of the Reserve Bank. The agency’s move to arrest him and keep him in custody amounts to the extraction of confession”, he said.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi further said that the senior Congress leader was denied anticipatory bail on three grounds- absconding and tampering with evidence, flight risk and non-cooperation. Abhishek Singhvi also alleged that the Delhi high court judge, who declined the senior Congress leader’s anticipatory bail plea, was biased.

“Time has come to recommend to the Parliament to suitably amend the law and do away with anticipatory bail provision for high profile people in economic offences”, Singhvi read out from the judge’s statement.

Continuing his attack on the Delhi High Court’s order that rejected bail to the senior Congress leader, Singhvi questioned the high court judge’s choice of words, underlining that the judge had, more than once, described the accusation against Chidambaram as “grave”.

Singhvi said that the judgement had a “subjective element”. “What is grave for one may be less grave for another, so the best and only test of gravity of the offence is the period of the sentence prescribed by the legislature,” Singhvi argued.

The Supreme Court has now postponed the hearing of plea to Wednesday filed against Delhi HC order dismissing his anticipatory bail plea. The arguments in the case will continue Wednesday from 2 pm when Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta will argue on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate.

Earlier on Monday, the special CBI court had extended P Chidambaram’s CBI custody till Friday. The Supreme Court had also refused to take up his appeal for protection against arrest by the CBI, saying it has been overtaken by events.

The INX Media case relates to discrepancies and alleged shady dealings in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to the media group for international investment funds worth several hundred crores. Chidambaram was the finance minister at that time.

The Wire to face trial in defamation case filed by Jay Shah, withdraws plea filed in SC to quash the case

Leftist propaganda website The Wire and journalist Rohini Singh has decided to face trial in a defamation case filed by Jay Shah, son of Home Minister Amit Shah. The Wire and Rohini Singh today requested the Supreme Court to withdraw their petition seeking to quash the criminal defamation case against them, which was accepted by the court.

The case relates to an article written by Rohini Singh and published by The Wire alleging impropriety in business dealings of Jay Shah. Their article, which was riddled with glaring loopholes and inaccuracy, was decimated by us. Subsequently, The Wire had selectively altered its story, but the shaky ground on which the story stood remained as it was.

In response to the shoddy story, Jay Shah had slapped ‘The Wire’ with a ₹100 crore defamation case against them in a Gujarat court. Subsequently, the Gujarat High Court had issued a gag order on The Wire, preventing it from publishing anything on the matter. The High Court had observed that Jay Shah has a prima facie case against the publication.

After the Gujarat High Court had rejected a petition by The Wire to dismiss the defamation against them, they had approached the Supreme Court requesting the same. The apex court had stayed the defamation proceedings in the trial court while it heard the plea. But during a hearing on the plea at the Supreme Court, the publication decided to change track and requested to withdraw the petition, saying they will face the trial in the criminal defamation case.

Justice Arun Mishra allowed the request and said that trial will have to be completed by six months. But Wire lawyer Kapil Sibal objected to it, saying it is not a special matter, he argued that even the SC kept the case pending for a long time. On this, the judge removed the six-month limit, but still said that the trial should be completed as soon as possible.

The court also said that they want to know how a short notice was given to Jay Shah by Wire.

P Chidambaram has properties spread across 12 countries: ED to court

The Enforcement Directorate has claimed the Congress leader P Chidambaram, who is presently in CBI custody in the INX media case has properties worth crores spread across not only India but various other countries all over the world.

According to reports, the ED has further claimed that Chidambaram and his associates have been trying to tamper with evidence, trying to sell-off assets abroad and close various foreign bank accounts which he and the other co-accused in the INX media case been operating through shell companies.

In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the investigating agency has claimed that Chidambaram has bank accounts in as many as 12 countries, namely, Argentina, Austria, British Virgin Iceland, France, Greece, Malaysia, Monaco, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Spain and Sri Lanka.

ED has submitted in the court that Chidambaram and the other co-accused have created a web of shell companies in several countries to launder money.

The court finally extended Chidambaram’s CBI custody till 30th August.

According to the charges made against P Chidambaram by CBI and ED, he had granted illegal FIPB approval to six companies in return for kickbacks. And those kickback amounts were invested in movable and immovable properties in India and foreign countries. The agencies have identified several shell companies of Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, P Chidambaram’s son, formed both in India and outside India. The agencies have found that although the shell companies are registered under the names of different persons, the Chidambaram’s are actual beneficial owners of them.

On 22nd August, the special CBI court had granted CBI four days custody of P Chidambaram, against the agency’s request of five day’s custody. CBI had presented him at the court after his dramatic arrest on 21st August.

The Supreme Court had also dismissed Chidambaram’s petition against the Delhi High Court order rejecting his anticipatory bail plea against arrest by CBI, as the agency has already arrested him and he needs to apply for regular bail. His other petition seeking protection from arrest by ED was taken by the court today but it didn’t complete, which will continue tomorrow. Till then the court has extended his interim protection against arrest by ED.

The court proceedings are to continue tomorrow too. Solicitor general Tushar Mehta will tomorrow argue on behalf of the ED. Chidambaram’s interim protection from arrest by ED continues till tomorrow.

Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi to be renamed ‘Arun Jaitley Stadium’, ground will continue to be named Feroz Shah Kotla

The Delhi and District Cricket Association today announced that the iconic Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi will be renamed ‘Arun Jaitley Stadium’ as a mark of respect to former DDCA President Arun Jaitley who passed away on Saturday.

Former Union Minister served as the President of DDCA from 1999 to 2013. Speaking on the occasion DDCA President Rajat Sharma said, “What can be better to have the stadium named after the man who rebuilt it under his presidentship. It was Arun Jaitley’s support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud.”

The DDCA also clarified that only the cricket stadium will be named after Arun Jaitley, while the ground will be continued to named as Feroz Shah Kotla.

Feroz Shah Tughlaq was the Sultan of Delhi who reigned Delhi through Sharia between 1351 to 1388. He succeeded his cousin Mohammad bin Tughlaq. The cricket ground, established in 1883 was named after him.

India’s strategic conundrum and Balochistan

President Trump’s announcement that his administration was working on a plan to withdraw all American forces from Afghanistan precipitated a dramatic change in the geo-strategic equation. Pakistan has effectively deceived the Americans where on one hand she took billions of dollars of American taxpayers’ money and on the other hand, aided, trained and sheltered Taliban which killed more than 3,000 American soldiers in Afghanistan. Now US policies in South Asia seem to be so inconsistent that they need Pakistan’s help, which, in the first place, is responsible for the Taliban’s resurgence after its defeat in 2001.

India’s geopolitical strategy in Afghanistan for almost 18 years was based on two notions. First, Americans are controlling Afghanistan and they would remain influential in Afghanistan, mainly by investing in civilian projects and by getting closer to the Americans as a global partner. Second, India wanted to have a permanent influence in the region by utilising Chabahar port as a trade route for landlocked Afghanistan and by granting her independence in the trade who always relied on Pakistani seaports.

Two notions on which the whole Indian regional strategy was based failed when President Trump restarted relations with Pakistan and decided that they will withdraw from Afghanistan before 2020 elections. American political and military elite understand that Taliban will recapture Afghanistan after the withdrawal and eventually Pakistan Army will be in control via the Taliban like the 1990s. However, it doesn’t matter for current administration if Afghanistan is ruled by some religious maniacs or secular democrats. President Trump only cares for next electoral victory which is only possible if he shows his support base that he has delivered previous campaign pledges.

Firstly, if there is a pro-Pakistan and anti-Indian government in Kabul, then Afghanistan would not need an Indian operated Chabahar port because Afghans will continue to use Pakistan’s seaports which they have been using for the last several decades. Secondly, suppose such predictions are wrong and, in a post-withdrawal scenario, somehow the Afghan Government could maintain its good relations with India and stop the Taliban retaking control of the country, what then would happen to India’s geostrategic calculus with respect to the port of Chabahar if there is a change of regime in Iran? Thirdly, if the first and second scenarios ought to be true i.e. Taliban rule in Afghanistan, then wouldn’t it be strategically possible for Pakistan to put all energy against India in Kashmir and beyond to harm Indian interests?

Since Nehru, all Indian Prime Ministers have been trying a similar type of South Asia strategy except Indira Gandhi who divided Pakistan into two by liberating Bangladesh. The idealist Indian political elite has always thought that they would somehow change the behaviour of Pakistan and peace is a practical possibility. If billions of American dollars did not change Pakistan’s behaviour and she supported the Taliban despite getting all the money, then why the trade of tomatoes and onions would change Pakistan’s anti-Indian nature? Why Pakistan would need peace with India if the whole existence of Pakistan is based on the two-nation theory? Wouldn’t any permanent peace with India further strengthen ethnic nationalism which will weaken the state of Pakistan if there is no religious justification for the oppression of nations like Baloch, Sindhis and Pashtuns who have never been deeply interested in the idea of Pakistan?

Even, if there is a short-term calm on the LOC and Kashmir region then can anyone guarantee that Pakistan wound not create problems for emerging India if the former gets stronger economically, politically and militarily? Is it possible for India to achieve the status of regional power and compete with China without settling the Pakistan problem once and for all?

The new geopolitical reality demands a new strategy from Indian political and military elite. The strategy needs to be a pro-active and mere reaction against Pakistani actions will not protect Indian national interests. The new reality is that Afghanistan’s democratic and secular forces will have no say in Afghanistan’s future, let alone India which Pakistan sees as its arch enemy. Furthermore, China is building naval bases in Balochistan to encircle India. India had an opportunity for almost two decades after Taliban’s defeat to challenge Pakistan with a comprehensive strategy but they have now lost the historical opportunity because successful United Progressive Alliance and National Democratic Alliance governments have failed to convince the West that Pakistan is the real terrorist state in the region and that that alternative nation-states could be carved out of Pakistan which would bring peace and long term prosperity for the whole region.

Realpolitik dictates that America should cooperate with Pakistan until there is a possible alternative in the region. The alternative has always been Balochistan because of its strategic location and secular political movement against Pakistan’s occupation. The philosophy of western countries is very simple. South Asia is not their region and that’s why they feel no hesitation cooperating with a terrorist state like Pakistan. West thinks that Pakistan is there, so they have to work with her until they find an effective and reliable alternative. Whereas geopolitical situation for India is very different, she cannot wait for the alternative, she must create the alternative because until India has total hegemony in the South-Asia it will never rise as a regional power and she will never have hegemony in the region until there is Pakistan.

India is expected to have the world’s largest population and wants to become the world’s largest economy by 2050 but such a dream cannot be realised until India has hegemony over entire South-Asia. The time has come that Indian leaders should start taking bold foreign policy decisions and learn from their Israeli allies. Israel from last several decades has been supporting Kurdish people in their struggle and today because of their long-term commitment Israel has allies in Syria, Iraq and in a likely post-regime Iran. India can follow Israel’s path by supporting stateless nations for regional influence.

The Baloch national struggle can effectively reduce the territorial size of Pakistan into half and can also provide India with potential long-term influence from Chabahar to Strait of Hormuz in a post-regime Iran. It will also strengthen the pro-Indian democratic forces in Afghanistan because there is already an understanding among Afghan and Baloch to see the region free of Pakistani backed terrorism. An independent Balochistan would pave the way for the total elimination of fake state Pakistan and after few years of Balochistan’s independence, Pakistan will be replaced by ethnic-based nation-states such as Sindh and Pashtunistan.

Moreover, India also needs access to raw material for its emerging economy. Balochistan’s gold, copper, iron and other mineral resources which are being plundered by Chinese and Punjabi establishment would be available for the Indian industries and in return, Balochistan will get a fair price for its precious metals and resources.  Balochistan which has great economic potential could be a new market for Indian technology and goods if it is free and sovereign. Balochistan’s freedom will resolve many strategic issues and geographical dilemmas which India faces and create new markets for emerging India. Bringing geopolitical change in the region is an achievable and realistic goal; however, it cannot happen if the Indian political elite follows the same old strategy time and again and expect a different result.

Fact check: No, the rich Saudi man did not accidentally buy two Airbus A350s for his son

With every passing day, it’s becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between what’s fake and what’s real. The problem has only been accelerated by the fact that we are living in a clown world where the bizarre is the norm.

A screenshot of a supposed news report has now gone viral on social media of a Saudi man accidentally buying two airplanes for his son’s birthday. The screenshot said that the man works in the energy sector and was looking to buy a gift for his son on his birthday who happens to be a big fan of aviation.

The viral story of Saudi man accidentally buying two Airbus A350s for his son’s birthday.

The article is from a website called Thin Air Today. It says, “The man says he called Airbus for the model planes but his lack of english made communication difficult. “They asked so many questions about interior and exterior, I just though they make very accurate scale models”. The price tag of roughly € 329 million did not seem to bother the man. “I got lost in currency conversions, I thought it was a bit expensive but still reasonable”. The man payed with his American Express and a few months later, Airbus called to tell the planes are ready for delivery. “They asked me who will fly it, I thought it was a joke”.” Apparently, the Saudi then decided to keep one of the planes for himself and gifted the other to his cousin.

Times Group’s Times Now fell for the satire.

Times Now falls for a satire.

TimesNow has quoted a website ‘Tumfweko.com’ as a source for the above news which is a news website from Zambia, which, too, seems to have fallen for the satire.

Numerous people on social media shared the article believing it to be true.

However, as it turns out, Thin Air Today is a satire website. It says so as much on its Facebook page.

Although their website doesn’t explicitly say that it’s satire, it is fairly obvious from the content. For instance, they have articles with headlines such as, “Airbus: Siri will replace autopilot and new cockpit gets 12MP selfie-camera for pilots.” Another one reads, “Flat earth society makes promotional round-the-world trip”. Yet another reads, “Berlin’s new airport to open in summer of 3021.”

People have fallen for an obvious piece of satire. There appears to be a misguided perception of how rich the Saudis actually are. But seriously, not even they are that rich. Or maybe, they are. And that is why so many people fell for this particular piece of satire.

This is not the first time a satire has been taken for real news. Last year, NDTV had taken a 2011 article of a satire website Unreal Times on Imran Khan (the cricketer turned Pakistani Prime Minister) for actual news. Similarly, scientist and columnist Anand Ranganathan’s satirical tweet had triggered the usual suspects in the liberal world. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, too, fell for a satirical ‘dowry calculator‘.

After Article 370, we need a surgical strike against leftist terrorism, a scourge that has gone on for far too long

Which is the most popular ministry in Modi sarkar right now? Without any doubt, it is the Home Ministry. The Hindu right expects a lot from Amit Shah. After all, we have been waiting quite literally for decades. This from yesterday.

Untitled.png

I have been saying for the longest time that the leftist terror threat all across India is much bigger than any kind of external threat. Our security forces have suffered multiple attacks on the scale of Pulwama or Uri. And yet, for some inexplicable reason, these attacks over decades have failed to create a sense of urgency among the general population.

Does anyone remember Dantewada in 2010? That’s where 76 CRPF men lost their lives.

At that very moment, India should have gone for an all-out war against left-wing terror. But now is as good a time as any other.

Let me put it to you like this. If you heard tomorrow that Pakistan had crossed the international border and occupied say the city of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, what would you do? Would you not call for immediate war to liberate the people of Jaisalmer? In 1999, when it was found that Pakistani infiltrators had entered Kargil, we did not wait. We went to war immediately.

Well, much of Indian territory has been facing exactly that for several decades now. Parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and bits of other states including Bihar, Bengal, Maharashtra and Telangana. They have occupied territory and set up their military bases. And just like Pakistan refers to certain parts of PoK as “Azad Kashmir,” the leftists refer to their occupied territories as “liberated zones.” And it is from these bases that they carry out guerilla attacks on our people and our forces, exactly what Pakistan does with PoK.

It never ceases to amaze me how the scourge of left-wing terrorism somehow still manages to fly slightly under the radar of our national consciousness.

Once upon a time, Dr Manmohan Singh Singh referred to leftist terror as India’s gravest security threat. One of the few times when he was 100% right. And true to his nature, he did very little about it. If my memory serves me correctly, Chidambaram was Home Minister when the government decided to make an end to the leftist terror threat once and for all with 30,000 troops. It was supposedly called Operation Green Hunt.

But Operation Green Hunt never actually materialized. Everyone paid the price. Common people for sure. The jawans of CRPF and BSF and their families. Even prominent politicians of both Congress and BJP paid with their lives. If there is something that should unite all Indians, it is opposition to leftist terror.

The time is ripe for Amit Shah to do a ‘surgical strike’ on leftist terror. Hot pursuit. To wipe out left-wing terror.

What can the other side do? The worst they can do is unleash their ragged army of talking heads with all sorts of absurd claims. You know all the usual suspects. Surely, we can’t care about them. And dare I say, many of them have actual links with actual left-wing terrorists. Check a few NGO money trails and some testimonies from surrendered terrorists. Some big names will spill out into the open.

The other thing we can do is absolutely banish the thought that leftist terror has any kind of moral underpinning. The myth of “misguided youth.” First of all, we have had enough experience with terrorism in India and around the world to know that you can’t make any excuses for terrorism.

Part of this is to banish the myth that local people in leftist terror affected areas have any kind of sympathy for Naxalism. Frankly, that myth is quite insulting on many levels to the local people there, mostly Adivasis. Do you seriously think those people want to live under a violent occupying force, with no democracy and with kangaroo courts? Do you seriously think those people don’t want schools, hospitals, roads and jobs? Every time there is an election, local people in those areas flock to voting booths at the peril of their lives to make their voice heard. The turnout in many leftist terror affected booths would beat out the voter turnout in many affluent areas of big cities like Bengaluru or Mumbai. Just think about that.

Would you risk your life to go out and vote? Now think about the lakhs of people who are doing just that. You can’t possibly let an “intellectual” convince you that these most committed of voters reject the Indian state.

One final point – let’s stop using the expression “Left Wing Extremism.” The term suggests that Naxals are, well, extremists. Outside the mainstream of the left. Okay, so who are the “mainstream” of the left-wing? Perhaps the CPM with its 2-3 MPs? That’s all? Well, if there are so few Communists contesting elections and so many Communists fighting with guns, who is the extremist and who is mainstream? It looks to me that the Naxals are not the extreme of the left-wing, they are the mainstream of the left-wing. Let us call them what they are.

The time is now. The scourge of left-wing terror has gone on far too long. It’s time for Amit Shah to finish off this problem. As we say in Hindi, “aar paar ki ladai.”

Kerala Congress president M Ramachandran to seek explanation from Shashi Tharoor for his pro-Modi remarks

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor finds himself in a fix as Kerala Congress president Mullapally Ramachandran has said today that he will seek an explanation from him for heaping praise on PM Modi.

Recently, Congress veteran Jairam Ramesh had begrudgingly admitted mistakes made by his party by blindly ridiculing PM Modi. He said that demonising PM Modi all the time is not going to help Congress and Modi’s governance model is not an “all negative story”. Another Congress leader AM Singhvi had also come out in support of Ramesh’s statement saying that good decisions by PM Midi ought to be applauded.

Echoing Jairam Ramesh’s sentiments, Shashi Tharoor had claimed that he has always been a proponent of praising PM Modi for his right policy decisions. Tharoor stated that lauding PM Modi for correct decisions will also add to the credibility of the opposition. “As you know, I have argued for six years now that Narendra Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing, which would add credibility to our criticisms whenever he errs. I welcome others in opposition coming around to a view for which I was excoriated at the time,” Tharoor said.

However, these remarks by Tharoor have drawn state party unit president’s ire as he proceeded to assert that Shashi Tharoor will be asked to explain his comments regarding PM Modi. Along with Ramachandran, leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, former Vattiyoorkavu MLA K. Muraleedharan, who was elected in the recent Lok Sabha polls and renounced the seat, and Congress-led United Democratic Front convener Benny Behanan have openly frowned at Tharoor’s statement.

Earlier, Congress in Kerala had expelled former MP from Kannur, AP Abdullakutty from the party for speaking positively about PM Modi.

Maridhas and the DMK: A Tamil David against the Dravidian Goliath

Young Tamils of today need no introduction to the Youtube channel Maridhas Answers. A young gentleman, in impeccable simple Tamil, uses calm argumentation, facts and logic to demolish the prevailing narrative in Tamil Nadu. He has released educative videos on the Neutrino project, on the highway projects, on the national development projects and successes of the Modi Government.

With a shoestring budget, crowdsourced funds and social media presence, he has been consistently swimming against the current.

In recent videos, he has taken aim against some very powerful lobbies, notably the foreign-funded Christian lobby and the entrenched power in the State, the Dravidian movement.

Predictably, he has begun to face retribution. The first is a criminal complaint against him submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Chennai, by Rajya Sabha MP and DMK Organization Secretary, Mr R S Bharathi.

Let us go over a few videos of his that have so irked the powers that be.

On 29th July 2019, he released a video titled – Is the DMK Anti-Hindu? In this video, he walks us through the foreign funding of some of the Christian organizations in Chennai, notably, the Evangelical Church of India, whose Bishop Ezra Sargunam, was in the news for exhorting people to punch Hindus in the face. Startlingly, at 27:50 of this video, he shares information that this Bishop’s organization had transferred funds to the Dravidar Kazhagam, the ideological parent of all Dravidian movements.

On 18th August 2019, after DMK’s Spokesperson Mr Saravanan, had made the startling claim that Kashmir is not an integral part of India on national television, Maridhas released this video – Should the DMK be banned?

In this video, he first claims that the DMK’s stand on Kashmir reflects the official Pakistani position on the subject. (in this section) He also goes on to state that the stand reflects the position of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba. In this video, Maridhas highlights the contribution of India’s Ambassador to UN, Syed Akbaruddin and the sacrifice of slain rifleman Aurangzeb. He also claims that Chennai is in the top list of Pakistan’s bombing targets and DMK’s support of Kashmiri separatism is a betrayal of Tamil interests.

He recollects the rumour engines that worked overtime in Tamil Nadu to claim that the Pulwama attack was engineered by BJP and doubted whether the Balakot strikes really happened. He claims that Thirumurugan Gandhi, who raised these doubts and rumours, is astroturfed by the DMK. He recollects that the accused in Coimbatore bombing were released by the DMK for Anna’s birth centenary and claims that the DMK, Congress or Communists did not intervene when Katchatheevu island was ceded to Sri Lanka. He concludes by raising a doubt if the DMK has received any funds from Pakistan for taking the stance it does.

The final video that brought about the police complaint was released on 24th August 2019. It is titled – Do the DMK and Pakistan have a link? In this section of the talk, he describes how news outlets like Daily Pakistan and Tamil outlets like OneIndia.com reflect the same views or slant.

He draws a parallel between the structure in Kashmir, where Dawood Ibrahim’s financial power, the JKNC and PDP, which practice respectable politics and the Hurriyat and splinters, that are separatists work together, with the business magnate Martin, DMK and the small splinter political parties and Tamil nationalist and Dravidianist activist groups

He traces the relationship between Martin Jose Daison, who is the son of Santiago Martin, a business tycoon, and Thirumurugan Gandhi, the leader of the May 17th Movement. Martin Jose Daison is a Director in many firms as per the Ministry of Corporate Affairs

Earlier, Twitter handles had expressed a doubt whether the funding for Thirumurugan Gandhi’s May 17 Tamil Separatist movement had come from Santiago Martin

Martin Windfarms, in which Jose Daison is a Director, pays him a monthly salary of Rs 3 crore/month. In a financial deal, Jose Daison is said to have given an unsecured loan to another of the companies in which he is a director, Sky Ride Hi-Tech Tours and Travels.

He also makes the startling claim that Martin transfers money using the hawala route. He points to the role of Kolkata in moving hawala funds using the lottery route, Jose Daison’s directorship in companies registered in Kolkata and the CBDT action in unravelling a 1000 crore hawala syndicate in Kolkata. He references this article in which Santiago Martin is mentioned

He links Teasel Marketing Pvt Limited, registered in Kolkata and in which Jose Daison is a Director, to hawala operations. He also repeats media suspicions about foul play in the death of Palanisamy, an Accountant, soon after the accountant’s investigation by the Income Tax Department.

He claims that the entire May 17th movement is funded by the Martin family and that it works as an extended arm of the DMK. He uses this claim as the explanation of how the constant turmoil and protests and demonstrations of the last three years have been funded by hawala funds.

The DMK Side

In his complaint, Mr R S Bharathi makes the argument that the 18th August video which compared DMK’s protests against the abrogation of Article 370 with the point of view of designated terrorist outfits and Pakistan as a motivated action to create ill-will against Muslims. It is on this basis that he seeks action against Maridhas under Section 505(2) – Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes.

He further goes on to demand that the YouTube channel and Facebook page be removed under the Information Technology Act, 2000. He further demands an investigation into how Maridhas utilizes the funds he seeks through crowdfunding.

We leave it to the reader as to whether Maridhas’ point of view is indeed Islamophobic and how his activity is detrimental to communal harmony. While the author of the publication has not verified any of the claims made by Maridhas in his videos, the DMK’s stand must also be questioned as to why it is working to silence a lone voice like Maridhas.
