Sidhu’s rant comes back to haunt: Posters in Ludhiana ask him to keep his promise of quitting politics if Rahul Gandhi loses Amethi

Posters asking Congress leader, Navjot Singh Sidhu, to keep up his promise of quitting politics if Rahul Gandhi loses from Amethi, comes up in Pakhowal road in Ludhiana, Saturday.

In April, Sidhu, while addressing a rally in Rae Bareli, had challenged that he would quit politics if the Gandhi scion loses election from his stronghold. Now his rhetoric has come back to haunt him as posters with a picture of Sidhu captioned read: When are you quitting politics? Time to keep your words. We are waiting for your resignation,” appeared in Ludhiana.

However, it still remains unclear who put up these posters on a roadside wall. This is not the first instance where people have been asking Navjot Singh Sindhu to quit politics and keep his promise. A day before, similar posters had appeared in Mohali.

In one of the biggest overturns in this Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had lost from his home turf to BJP’ Smriti Irani by 55,120 votes.

However, Sidhu had then refused to believe that BJP’ Smriti Irani, who was standing opposite Rahul Gandhi from Amethi, is a tough competition for the Congress President. He refuted the BJP’ claim that no development work has taken place in the country in the last 70 years. He said that the country made everything from a needle to an aircraft during this period.

Navjot Singh Sidhu is currently serving as the Minister of local government, tourism, cultural affairs, and museums of the state of Punjab.

Recently, CM Amarinder Singh had stripped off the cricketer turned politician of the portfolios of local government, tourism, cultural affairs, and museums of the state of Punjab and offered him power and new and renewable energy sources ministry. However, even after two weeks of portfolio shuffling, Punjab power department still remains headless as Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had demanded the state Congress president’s post along with it, is yet to take charge of the power ministry.

World Cup Match Preview, Pakistan v South Africa: Do or Die for both the teams

A do or die situation for both the teams to keep the hopes alive for semi-final birth. One of them will surely be ruled out of the tournament after losing the match here.

Nobody knows how good or bad these two teams will play against each other, however, for a neutral fan, this will be fun to watch them play in such a scenario where a win is a must.

South Africa has shown its true colour against New Zealand when they couldn’t defend a total of 241 despite dismissing their top 4 at the score of 8. They dropped catches, missed run outs and panicked in the final few overs like they are the champions of it. The choke word has already arrived for them in the tournament, and it would be difficult for them now to remove the tag easily.

Pakistan after losing to India is desperate to take the field and prove a point to their fans. The team and captain are under tremendous pressure as they have been criticized heavily for their poor performance in this World Cup. They have won just one game and lost 3 with one washout against Sri Lanka.

A sunny and dry day is expected at Lord’s which is hosting its first World Cup match of the current edition.

Players to watch out for

Imran Tahir would be the key bowler for South Africa in the middle overs. He bowled beautifully against Afghanistan and New Zealand, and it was difficult for the batsmen to score off him in those two games. It will be interesting to see how he bowls against the country of his birth, where he learned the art of spin bowling.

Mohammad Amir, the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the competition, is ready to take on the South African batting line up which looked fragile in the tournament so far. If he takes early wickets, then it would be easy for Pakistan to build the pressure from the begging of the South African innings.

As the accused in Bargari sacrilege case gets killed in jail, here is all you need to know about the 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration

Dera Sacha Sauda follower, Mohinder Pal Singh Bittoo, the main accused in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege case was murdered on Saturday evening by two of his inmates in the Nabha Jail in Patiala, where he was lodged.

The incident took place around 5:45 pm when Mohinder Singh was allegedly attacked by two men, Gursewak Singh and Maninder Singh with rods that they pulled out from a window, the police said. Bittu was taken to the hospital but he was declared brought dead. The police said that a medical board has been set up to probe the death and the report of the post-mortem examination will be disclosed shortly.

Mohinder Pal Bittu, 49, was accused of desecrating the Sikh holy book in 2015 in Faridkot district’s Bargari and was arrested on June 9, 2018, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, carrying an illegal weapon and his alleged involvement in unlawful activities, by an SIT of Punjab Police probing the four-year-old sacrilege incidents. For the past 10 months, he was lodged in the high-security Nabha jail.

The state committee member of the Dera from Palampur in Himachal, Bittu was a resident of Kotkapura town of Faridkot and owner of a bakery shop. Mohinder Singh was the member of a 45-member community of the Dera Sache Sauda and also one of the 150 Dera followers who were booked by the Panchkula Police for violence after the conviction of the Dera head, Gurmeet Ram Rahim. He was absconding since August 2017 following the conviction of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the DSS head was convicted of rape by special CBI court on August 20, 2017. His conviction led to widespread violence leaving several dead and injured. On August 28, 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison. In January 2019, he was convicted of the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and awarded a sentence of life imprisonment. He is under prosecution for other murders and for ordering forced castrations.

Meanwhile, fearing a communal flare, Punjab CM, Amarinder Singh requested all communities to maintain peace and “not give in to rumours”. He has also ordered beefing up of security in the state in the wake of the attack on Mohinder Pal Singh Bittoo. Ten companies of the Border Security Force (BSF) and two companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been called in, sources said.

Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered a probe into the attack of Mohinder Singh, warning of strict punishment for the assailants, an official statement said. The government has suspended the jail superintendent and the barrack-in-charge.

According to reports, ADGP Prisons Rohit Chaudhary will head the committee formed to probe the attack. He has been asked to submit a report into the case within three days.

The 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration or the 2015 Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege refers to a series of desecration incidents of the Sikh Guru Granth Sahib and the subsequent protests that took place in Punjab in October 2015.

The first incident of desecration was reported from Bargari, Faridkot district, where 110 torn ‘Angs’ of the holy Guru was found on October 12, 2015. It all began on the afternoon of June 5, 2015, when the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book, was stolen from a gurdwara in a village called Burj Jawahar Singh Wala in Faridkot district, Punjab.

Several Sikh leaders, including Baljit Singh Daduwal, gave an ultimatum to the police to find the culprits. On June 11, members of various Sikh religious organisation held a protest in the village accusing the police of inaction. They tried to gherao (surround) the local police station, meanwhile, a large police unit was deployed to prevent it.

On October 12 more than 110 pages of the Guru Granth Sahib were found lying on the ground in front of a gurdwara in Bargari, Faridkot district. The residents of the town and nearby villages declared a bandh. The members of some Sikh religious organisation arrived in the town and in the evening a protest march carrying the torn pages was held.

In nearby Kotkapura, protestors blocked a major highway intersection. Large numbers of police personnel were deployed to prevent violence. The protestors refused to unblock the highways, despite requests from the local police chiefs, demanding that the perpetrators be arrested.

Following this incident, several other incidents were reported where ‘Angs’ or ‘bir’ of the Sikh Holy book was found torn or burnt.

On 14 October 2015, around 6000 protesters gathered in Kotkapura and held a peaceful sit-in protest to demand action. In the wee hours of the morning, the police started using water cannons and lathi charge to scatter the crowd. They fired some rounds at the mob. Two protesters died in the firing. More than 50 people were injured in clashes, which included 24 policemen. The protesters also destroyed 10 vehicles of which 5 belonged to the police. Two leaders of the group were arrested and 500 protesters were detained.

On October 15, 2015, the Punjab government announced the formation of a Judicial Commission headed by retired Punjab and Haryana High Court judge, Zora Singh to investigate the first incident of desecration. Following the investigation, several arrests were made.

On October 18, Amarinder Singh demanded the resignation of the then Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and imposition of President’s rule in Punjab. Several leaders of the then ruling party in Punjab, the  Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) submitted their resignation in protest, accusing the government of failing to protect the holy books.

The Sikh diaspora around the world, including the Canadian Sikhs, the Sikhs in London, American Sikh Council (ASC), North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) and Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC), condemned the desecration and killing of the protesters. They urged the central and state governments to bring the culprits to justice.

On November 2015, the Punjab Cabinet approved an amendment to the Section 295A of the IPC, The new section 295AA carried a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for crimes like Bargari sacrilege case. The bill was passed on March 22, 2016.

A special investigation team (SIT) of Punjab Police, probing the sacrilege incidents at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari villages of Faridkot, had last year rounded up four Dera Sacha Sauda followers, suspecting them to be the prime accused in the sacrilege incidents.

Along with Mohinder Singh Bittu, three others namely Sunny Kanda, a dairy owner, his brother Sukhpreet Singh and Jaggi, their relative from Mansa were also rounded up by the Punjab Police.

In June 2016, after an unidentified man had opened fire at Gurdev Singh, a Dera follower, at his grocery shop at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village of Faridkot there was a massive protest by the Dera followers. Bittu had reportedly led that agitation, demanding the arrest of culprits.

Last year, Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar was also quizzed by the SIT of Punjab Police, which is probing the 2015 police firing incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura in the state following cases of sacrilege in Faridkot.

The actor was reportedly questioned over a reported meeting between Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal at the actor’s flat in Mumbai in 2015 in connection with the release of the Dera head’s movie “MSG”. His name was reportedly mentioned in the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report on sacrilege incidents.

Kumar has denied arranging any meeting between former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and the Dera Sacha Sauda sect head. The actor had, in fact, also denied having ever met the Sirsa headquartered Dera head.

Kumar had issued the denial on November 12, 2018, after the SIT summoned him along with former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. “It has come to my knowledge that some rumours and false statements are being loosely made on social media about my involvement with a person named Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the context of a fictitious meeting involving Sukhbir Singh Badal, Kumar had said in a tweet.

“With all humility, I would like to state the following facts. I have never ever met Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in my life, anywhere. I learnt from social media at some point that Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh resided for a while at some place in my locality Juhu in Mumbai but we never crossed each other’s paths, Kumar had said.

Activist files complaint against Rahul Gandhi for his International Yoga Day tweet where he insulted the Indian Army

In what could signal fresh trouble for Congress president Rahul Gandhi, a Mumbai-based activist has filed a complaint against him for his tweet on International Day of Yoga where he ended up insulting the Indian Army’s canine unit.

Complaint filed against Congress president Rahul Gandhi

The complaint has been filed by one Atal Bihari Dubey who is practising as an advocate in Bombay High Court and other courts in Mumbai. The complaint says that Rahul Gandhi has indulged in ‘public mischief with the intention to disrespect the Indian Army as well as International Yoga Day’.

The Tweet of Rahul Gandhi that Dubey has referred to in his complaint is one where Rahul Gandhi had tweeted two pictures of the Indian Army’s canine unit doing yoga along with their instructors. The tweet was captioned by Rahul Gandhi as ‘New India’.

The tweet led to massive uproar and several people, commentators and the general public believed that the Congress president had insulted the canine unit of the Indian Army.

The complaint says that Rahul Gandhi indulged in mischief and hurt sentiments of the people, and thus, should be prosecuted as per the law.

Dubey has urged the police to file an FIR against Rahul Gandhi in the matter.

Bill to make Jallianwala Bagh trust apolitical tabled by Modi govt, proposes to end automatic nomination of Congress President

A bill to make the Jallianwala Bagh trust apolitical has been tabled by the Modi government in its first parliamentary session since 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The bill proposes to end the automatic nomination of the Congress President and gives more power to the Central government to terminate the term of a nominated trustee.

The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act, 1951 provides for the erection a National Memorial in memory of the victims of the 13 April 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Act provides for a Trust to maintain the National Memorial. The trustees of the Jallianwala Bagh are as shown below.

The President of the Indian National Congress is one of the trustees, making it favourable to one party. Also, in the absence of a Leader of Opposition, there would be no trustee from the Lok Sabha.

In December 2018, the Centre approved an amendment to the Act to resolve these issues. Consequently, in February the Lok Sabha passed The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill, 2018 which proposes to remove the President of the Indian National Congress as a trustee. It further clarifies that in the absence of a Leader of Opposition the leader of the single largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha would be the trustee.

The bill has also an added clause that allows the central government to terminate the term of a nominated trustee before the expiry of his term without assigning any reason.

Despite the efforts of the Central government, the bill wasn’t passed in the Rajya Sabha in February due to the strong opposition of the Congress party. After coming back to power, the Modi government plans to once again bring up the bill for discussion.

The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was one of the 40 bills proposed by the Modi government in its first parliamentary session of the 17th Lok Sabha.

Video and statistics highlights from India v Afghanistan match

Who would have imagined that the match will be decided in the last over of the game between India and Afghanistan? A thrilling contest and a nail-biting finish, even though India was playing against the number 10 team of the World Cup.

After winning the toss, India decided to bat first on a sunny, dry day at Southampton. The pitch looked pretty flat, and the experts on the tv believed that India would smash the first 400 of the tournament.

India started slowly and with just nine on board in the 5th over they lost the in-form Rohit Sharma. The ball pitched in line and spun a little and crashed into the stumps. Kohli soon realized that the wicket is not as flat as everyone expected as the ball was holding on the turf after pitching. He added 57 and 58 runs for the 2nd and 3rd wicket with KL Rahul and Vijay Shankar respectively. In the process, he brought up his third consecutive half-century the tournament. After Kohli got out MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav batted for 13 overs and added 57 runs for the 5th wicket. Although Jadhav scored a half-century he never able to launch himself for big shots, only Kohli could score more than run a ball. Before this game, not a single spinner was able to take a wicket against India, but here 5 Indian wickets fell to spinners.

Watch: Indian Innings

Afghanistan has to chase just 224 runs, less than 4.5 runs per over, easy target and they had a cautious start from the beginning. At 64 for 2 in the 17th over, the match looked in complete balance. From there on Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi added 46 runs in the next 11 overs, and it felt like Afghanistan will cruise to victory comfortably. However, Kohli brought Bumrah for the breakthrough, and Bumrah provided it. He dismissed both the set batsmen in one over tilting the match in India’s favor. Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Nabi stayed there till the end keeping the hopes alive. Bumrah bowled the penultimate over with high accuracy, and all his six balls were yorkers. With 16 required in last over, Nabi smashed a four off the first ball off Shami, but Shami came back strongly. He not only dismissed Nabi but also took the first hat-trick of World Cup 2019. India won the match by 11 runs. Bumrah got the man of the game for his sharp and accurate bowling.

Watch: Fall of Wickets (Afghanistan)

STATS

  • Shami became the second Indian and overall 10th bowler to take a hat-trick in World Cup.
  • India won the match by 11 runs, their narrowest win in World Cup in terms of runs.
  • This was India’s 50th win in World Cup history, only Australia (67) and New Zealand (53) won more matches than India in the World Cup.

After free travel schemes for women AAP offers freebies to school students in Delhi, BJP calls it ‘act of desperation’

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has on June 22 offered to pay the examination fee charged by the CBSE from students in its schools from next year. This is yet another promise it made after offering free travel schemes for the women in Delhi.

Speaking on the announcement which was made in a felicitation ceremony organised for students and their parents at the Thyagaraj stadium here, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that it is difficult for those living in the huts to pay Rs 1500. “So we have decided that we will take the burden. ST-SC students paid Rs 50 and others paid Rs 1500 for their CBSE form fill-ups during Class 12 examination. So when students raised this question we decide to don the stage that we will pay the fees,” Sisodia added.

The BJP has, however, slammed the Arvind Kejriwal government, calling it ‘an act of desperation’.

“Whatever he is doing in his fifth year of rue is a clear reflection of a person who knows that the public is not with him and they are disgusted with his brand of politics. That they are going to definitely vote him out so, an act of desperation, he is coming out with not properly thought out processes,” said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli.

“Mr Kejriwal came with a great movement with Anna Hazare and act against the Corruption movement, then everyone associated with the movement, he threw them out of the process. Did exactly opposite to whatever he professed. Thereafter he said I will never be with the Congress party but he went with the party, nothing in these five years has been there accepting allegation, about false promises and therefore whatever he is doing now,” Nalin Kohli added.

Earlier, the AAP government had come up with free metro rides for women. This dole was, however, slammed by the ‘Metro man’, E Shreedharan who had labelled it as an electoral gimmick. He had elaborated on the reasons why the move will prove to be catastrophic for not only Delhi Metro but Metros in other cities without enhancing women’ security in any manner.

On the matter of safety for women, the ‘Metroman’ said, “By giving free travel, the safety of women commuters is not at all enhanced. What about their safety once they step out of the metro and encounter lurking dangers on the road for want of safe link bus services? This is the area your Govt. should spend money and not fund free travel.”

He has earlier written to the Prime Minister too objecting to the Delhi government’s decision. Moreover, this decision of the Arvind Kejriwal government had attracted great criticism from all quarters. Women had objected to the decision as well.

Does Congress suspect Data Analytics head Praveen Chakravarty was a Modi mole? This report suggests so

The Congress party seems to be clutching on to straws trying to ascertain what went wrong in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Now, if a report in the Sunday Guardian is to be believed, instead of introspecting and trying to figure out why the nation is disenchanted with the grand old party, Congress seems to believe that a man planted by the Modi government may have cost Congress the Lok Sabha Elections.

According to the report, the Congress party and its senior leadership is now trying to ascertain who introduced the Head of the Congress Data Analytics Department, Praveen Chakravarty to Rahul Gandhi. The Congress party seems to believe that Praveen Chakravarty could have been planted by the Modi government in Rahul Gandhi’s team to cost them this election.

Praveen Chakravarty was a member of Niti Aayog in September 2017 and Congress believes that holding such a position would not be possible without Chakravarty being close to the ‘ruling dispensation’. He was then introduced to Rahul Gandhi by a high ranking UPA time minister. A ‘powerful entity in the BJP dispensation’ had apparently introduced Chakravarty to the UPA minister if the Sunday Guardian report is to be believed.

Congress appears to believe that Praveen Chakravarty was a ‘mole’ in the Congress party who was planted by the Modi government just to ensure that Rahul Gandhi gets misled and loses the polls. Earlier, Praveen Chakravarty had clarified that he is an integral part of Congress.

The Data Analytics head had made headlines just a few days ago when it was revealed that he might have fed incorrect data to Rahul Gandhi thereby costing him the Lok Sabha polls. Praveen Chakravarty had evidently made Rahul Gandhi believe that the party would bag 164 and 184 seats in the elections and Rahul Gandhi would be the Prime Minister.

According to the report, Chakravarty had met Rahul on 21 May, on the day of Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary, and had presented him a list of 184 potential winners of the Congress, along with their respective constituencies and projected margins. Praveen had assured Rahul Gandhi of securing 184 seats, even if turned out to be slightly inadequate, he had promised that Congress would not be less than 164.

Congress had also alleged earlier that he had conned the Congress party by presenting a bill of Rs 24 crores for his services and has not even provided the Congress with the hard disc of the data he had collected.

Reportedly, Chakravarty sent an email to the data analytics department of Congress detailing his reflections on how his shady data failed to give correct projections for Congress. Chakravarty washes his hands off the poll debacle and says how there is nothing much we (data analytics department) could have done. The mail reportedly did not mention the failure of Shakti app, Congress’ data app, from trying to read the Modi wave in the second term.

As per a party functionary, about 30-40% data in an earlier variation of Shakti app was fake in Karnataka, where it was launched before the May 2018 state assembly elections. Three months later, when Shakti app was launched, the focus was on the volume of data collected. A competition was also held where the one who collected most data would get to meet the party President Rahul Gandhi. Without checks in place, more fake data was collected. As per the report, about 50-70% of the data collected through Shakti app was fake.

In fact, the report had suggested, without naming any senior functionary within the Congress, that Chakravarty fed the Rafale controversy into Rahul Gandhi’s head but a lot of senior leaders didn’t really follow the Rafale bogey Rahul was riding on.

Chakravarty was the founding trustee of the dubious database with faulty ‘fact-checker’ had also stated that the BJP victory in 2014 was a ‘black swan’ which could not be repeated. His analysis and data were found to be inconsistent with the reality as the BJP not only repeated it but even managed to outdo itself in terms of voter share. The ‘black swan’ managed to get almost 50% vote share, way above the 31% it got in 2014.

Congress seems to be desperate to shield the crowned prince and insist that the reason for defeat rests on someone else’s shoulder. After the string of mistakes that led to the 2019 debacle, Rahul Gandhi is now planning a nation-wide stir against EVMs.

When you don’t understand cricket, don’t tweet, else you’d sound like this journalist from The Print

Jyoti Malhotra, a journalist at the Print wore the hat of a cricketing expert during the India- Afghanistan clash on Saturday. Malhotra seemed agitated after India won a thriller against its friendly neighbour Afghanistan. She showcased her cricketing ‘expertise’ and blamed Indians for not displaying their sportsmanship after their victory.

The match between two sides was played in the highest sense of cricketing spirit with both sides sweating out to emerge victorious in the game. A true nail-biter, which went down to the wire, was appreciated by the fans of both countries. In fact, Indians were happy for their neighbouring team while appreciating the fine performance put forward by the Afghan team.

However, Lutyens peaceniks like Jyoti Malhotra seems to be very disturbed after India’s victory as she took to Twitter to vent out her frustration against the Indian team, particularly against Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Malhotra brought in equivalence between Pakistan and Afghanistan by stating that Indian team thought it was playing against Pakistan rather than Afghanistan and it was evident to her with Indians roaring to celebrate every time an Afghan wicket fell.

It would almost appear like Jyoti wanted India to give Afghanistan a walk over. However, what she failed to realise is that even though India and Afghanistan are friendly neighbours, in sports, no side would ever let the other side simply win. It is intriguing that while ‘liberals’ themselves want politics to be kept out of sports, in the India-Afghanistan match, politics is all that seemed to matter.

Malhotra tried to take a dig at Indian skipper Virat Kohli stating how he should recognise that fighters won’t give up till the end insinuating that Kohli should learn from the Afghan team. Further, in an attempt to create an elusive ‘hostility’ between two neighbours, Jyoti Malhotra brings in Mohammad Nabi to further her propaganda. She thanks Nabi for “teaching India a few things”, “including sportsman spirit”.

One doesn’t really know what Jyoti was upset about. One can only guess that perhaps Jyoti has a problem with Virat Kohli’s aggressive play and thus, has managed to conflate aggression and a will to win as bad ‘sportsman spirit’.

At one point, it seemed like Jyoti Malhotra was randomly tweeting to anyone who would listen.

Even after the match was over, with India winning as soon as Shami took that hat-trick, Jo Malhotra was wondering what would happen next.

Every time India plays a match, several self-proclaimed ‘liberals’ proceed to deride the country and the Men in Blue. Often, such elements view India’s aggression on the field and the fans’ chants of victory ‘jingoistic’ and a manifestation of ‘hyper-nationalism’. In this case, Jyoti Malhotra seems to deride a well-fought victory for India. Earlier, when India defeated Pakistan, several “liberals” wanted Pakistan to win just to see “hyper-nationalism” defeated. Others thought it was a ‘cold-hearted victory’ and in the process, tried to belittle India’s victory over Pakistan in the marquee event.

Virat Kohli has been a great ambassador of cricket. The hate coming against him for his aggressive behaviour on the field is unreal. The man wants to win the matches for India and that it shows whenever he is out to play. Even then he respects the opposition and always praised them, on and off the field. In 2016, Kohli gifted his bat to Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir, who came back from a 5-year ban for spot-fixing. Kohli won the heart of all the cricket fans during the India Australia match in the current edition of World Cup when he asked Indian crowd to applaud instead of booing Steve Smith for the sin committed a year back. He is known for his love for the kids and never says no to them for autographs or photographs.

Another fictitious ‘hate crime’? Eyewitness says Delhi Madrasa teacher not hit for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’

On June 21, a controversy had erupted after a Muslim man had claimed that he was allegedly hit by a car after he refused to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. A madrasa teacher named Mohammed Momin had alleged that he was allegedly abused and then run over by the car as he refused to chant Hindu religious slogans at Delhi’s Rohini Sector.

However, an eyewitness at the spot has now rubbished the claims of Mohammed Momin. As per the police report, the eyewitness during the preliminary investigation did not substantiate the allegations.

“During a preliminary investigation, we found an eyewitness who gave a sequence of events, Momin’s claims have not been substantiated so far”, DCP (Rohini) S D Mishra said.

Another police officer also confirmed, “The accounts given by some eyewitnesses of the incident do not substantiate the claims made by the victim but the investigation is underway”. CCTV footage from near the crime scene has also not been able to prove the allegations.

Following the incident, the ‘liberal-secular’ media had begun to demonise Hindus for attacking a madrasa teacher. The secular media had found a new victim in Momin, which they further used to perpetuate a false narrative about ‘Muslim victimhood’.

However, the new reports by the police suggest that there is no substantive evidence to prove that Momin was allegedly attacked by a group of people after he refused to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Recently, in a similar incident in Gurugram, a Muslim man named Barkat Alam had alleged that his skull cap was thrown away after a group of Hindus had attacked him. However, later these allegations were found to be untrue after a police investigation.
