‘Ram’s TRP have gone down’ Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee attacks BJP over “Jai Shri Ram” slogans

As Bharatiya Janata Party made an astounding entry into the politics of West Bengal, the Trinamool leadership seems to desperate to attack the BJP as Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee has now taken a sharp dig at the BJP over its latest slogan.

Speaking at a public rally, Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee attacked the BJP leadership over its latest slogan of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Maha Kali”. He went on to claim that the BJP was now forced to chant “Jai Maha Kali” as the TRP of the “Jai Shri Ram” slogan has gone down.

“People told me that Dilip Ghosh has asked to raise slogans of Jai Ma Kaali along with Jai Sri Ram. I told them, Mamata Banerjee was there so that is why suddenly Ram’s TRP has gone down and Ma Kaali’s TRP is going up,” said Abhishek Banerjee.

Abhishek Banerjee went on to credit Mamata Banerjee for making BJP raise slogans of ‘Jai Maa Kali’ instead of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. He further claimed that BJP leadership is scared of Mamata Banerjee, so they have included the new slogans as she agitated against the BJP.

The attack by Abhishek Banerjee comes as there is a huge standoff between the BJP and TMC over latter’s opposition to chanting Hindu religious slogans in the state.

On Monday, the BJP  had declared that it will continue campaigning in West Bengal with the slogans “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Maha Kali” until the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is ousted from power.

Mamata Banerjee has been facing severe public outcry after she lashed out at the public for chanting Hindu religious symbols in her presence at North Paragana district. Later, she had also unleashed her state police force to arrest few people for chanting Jai Shri Ram slogans in the state.

Shockingly, a BJP worker was also allegedly stabbed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers for chanting Jai Shri Ram in Panduranga village of East Burdwan district’s Ketugram area on May 30, 2019.

Aligarh: 3-year-old girl brutally murdered by Zahid over loan of Rs 10,000

In another deplorable incident, a man named Zahid brutally choked a minor girl, Tina Sharma (name changed), resident of Tappal, Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, to death, over an argument with her family regarding a small loan amount, reports Amar Ujala.

Zahid along with his friend Aslam has been arrested Tuesday after the Aligarh police recovered baby Tina body from a dumping ground nearby on June 2, three days after Tina went missing from her house.

Zahid had brutally choked Tina with a dupatta (scarf) and hid the body in his house in a straw bag. After three days when the corpse started emitting a foul smell, Zahid threw Tina in a pile of trash. Tina’s body was completely decomposed with her eyes gouged out.

Meanwhile, Tina’s family confirmed that they owed Zahid a sum of Rs 10,000, for which the two got into an argument the night before Tina disappeared from the village. Zahid had apparently warned Tina’s family of dire consequences.

During interrogation, Zahid owned up to the crime saying that he had lured the child by offering her biscuits.

Circle Officer, Pankaj Srivastav confirmed that a manhunt was launched after the police recovered Tina’s decomposed body from a garbage dump on June 2. The news spread after the deceased was recovered. The villagers agitated outside Tappal police station and demanded a new station in-charge. The near-by markets also remained closed for almost two hours, until the police managed to disperse the crowd.

Angered by the incident, the protestors sat on an indefinite hunger strike in front of Punjab National Bank on the Aligarh-Palwal route demanding justice for baby Tina.

Meanwhile, Banwari Lal Sharma, father of the deceased, confirmed that the SSP had assured the family of resolving the entire case within the next two days.

Match Preview – India vs South Africa: India plays their first while SA have lost both their opening games

After the long wait, India finally kickstart the World Cup campaign in Southampton against South Africa. While Indian players were busy with net practice and paintball, South Africa are already on the verge of getting knocked out of the tournament after losing both their opening games.

Indian team will be well rested and hopeful of starting the tournament with a bang against a beleaguered South African side. As always, the side will be looking at their top 3 batsmen to do the bulk of the scoring. In Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli, India has the most formidable top order in the world and they will be looking to cash in against a weakened South African bowling attack.

Rohit and Dhawan didn’t manage to score too many runs during the warm-up games and India will be hoping they manage to find their form as the tournament begins. KL Rahul looks to have secured the Number 4 spot after a fine century in the warm-ups, and Dhoni and Pandya also look to be in excellent touch. Kedar Jadhav is back to full fitness as well and should feature at Number 6 in the batting order.

Indian bowling attack is arguably the best in the tournament and irrespective of the pitch, they will be a real handful for South African batsmen. In Bumrah, they have the World’s Number 1 bowler with Kuldeep and Chahal also featuring in Top 10 ODI bowlers in the world. Excellent recent form of Shami would mean that he will be the 2nd seamer with Bhuvi on the bench. Pandya and Jadhav will provide the 5th bowler quota to complete the set.

While India look like a very settled side, South Africans are all over the place at the moment. Injuries to Steyn and Ngidi mean their bowling resources are totally stretched at this point and the pressure will be on the shoulders of Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir, their 2 senior bowlers still left standing. Hashim Amla should be back for this game after missing the loss against Bangladesh with a concussion. If South Africa lose today, they will need to win each one of their remaining games to be sure of a spot in the semi-finals.

Key Players:

India- Virat Kohli

The best batsman in the world will be looking to stamp his authority on the tournament right at the beginning. After a forgettable IPL (yet another one) with RCB, Kohli will be keen to get back into the Indian colours and continue his staggering form. His battle with Rabada promises to be one of the most exciting face-offs of the tournament.

South Africa- Quinton de Kock

South Africa stumbled in both their chases of 300+ in the tournament as the middle order couldn’t keep up with the required rate. They will be looking for someone from the top order to bat through the innings and Quinton de Kock is that man. He looked in excellent form against England but his wicket at a crucial stage handed over the advantage to England. He has a great record against India, average of 64 with a strike rate in excess of 92, and he will know that he needs to score a big one today.

Head to Head:

ODIs: Played 83, South Africa won 46, India 34, No result in 3

World Cup: Played 4, South Africa 3, India 1

Recent Form (Latest first): South Africa- LLWWW, India- LLLWW

BJP leader and medical professional Dr Nandini lashes out on Kejriwal government for non-implementation of Ayushman Bharat

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain yesterday said that the Delhi government will not allow Ayushman Bharat Yojana to be implemented. Instead, the government will give ‘free healthcare for all’. Earlier, the Delhi Government had put the scheme in jeopardy because it wanted to add the party name in the scheme.

Reacting to Kejriwal’s flippant attitude, BJP leader and a medical professional Dr Nandini Sharma lashed out on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his callous attitude. Her Facebook post is published in its entirety below:

In what yet again exposes how the Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal is an imprudent leader who is worried only about earning political brownie points and not the welfare of the citizenry, he has decided to pull out from the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme. AAP Government’s health minister Satyendar Jain confirmed the same.

It is shocking that in order to ensure that the Centre is not able to take credit for the healthcare scheme, Kejriwal has dictatorially decided to deprive the people of Delhi of free healthcare services. What added insult to the injury was the fact that Delhi Health Minister used a healthcare scheme to take potshots at Uttar Pradesh. And I am appalled at the lack of sensibility in the Health Minister’s statements not as a BJP leader but as a medical professional.

For the uninitiated, Ayushman Bharat Scheme is an ambitious National Health Protection Scheme that provides for up to Rs 5 lakh medical coverage to 10 crore poor and vulnerable families. The Ayushman Bharat Scheme is seen as a game changer as far as healthcare in India is concerned. The scheme launched by the Modi government has been receiving appreciations worldwide.

Even Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) applauded PM Modi and erstwhile Union Health Minister J P Nadda for their visionary and exemplary leadership. It is now being speculated that the expanse of this scheme is bound to increase as PM Modi is planning to expand the coverage of the health insurance scheme — Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), also known as Ayushman Bharat, which presently covers the bottom 40 per cent of Indians to more than 75 per cent of the total population. That’s 97.5 crore Indians under medical insurance cover. No country in this world has even dreamed about achieving such a massive feat.

Around seven lakh people availed the benefits of Ayushman Bharat in its initial 100 days of implementation. It is clear that in a brief span of time, the scheme has started benefiting the needy to a large extent. It is going to change the face of medical and healthcare in India. It is, therefore, clear that Arvind Kejriwal is depriving people of Delhi from a world class health care scheme only because of make believe political differences.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has set a very bad precedent with this decision. Political differences are a part of any democratic system but that should never come in the way of public interest. By depriving the people of his state from this scheme, a number of lives have been put in danger and several others who would have been able to get rid of deadly diseases by availing health care services will now be unable to access such services.

This decision of the AAP government hurts me on three levels, I am a medical professional and I am appalled at this decision. I am a BJP leader and I can only seethe in anger on the incompetence of my political rivals and I am the resident of Delhi, and my CM has decided to deprive the people of my state of free healthcare services. Deeply shocking!

Mamata Banerjee reads out Urdu sher and blames EVMs to take on BJP

Mamata Banerjee has been dealt with a crude shock in the 2019 general elections. Her fortress of West Bengal has been breached and with her rampant appeasement and TMC’s political violence exposed, she is struggling to find issues. Instead of development and prosperity, she has been trying to play the ‘communalism card’, that is, attempting to prove herself as ‘secular’ by trying to paint BJP as ‘communal’.

Mamata’s violent reactions to the chants of Jai Shriram has been viral on social media, prompting wide speculations on her mental state. Known for her Muslim appeasement policies, Mamata, on the occasion of Eid, has again taken to religious preaching, with a ‘secularism’ overdose.

Addressing a gathering in Kolkata today, Mamata donned the role of a ‘secular’ preacher. She first branded each of India’s prevalent religions by a single word. Tyaag(renunciation) for Hindus, Imaan(honesty) for Muslims, Love for Christians and Balidan(sacrifice) for Sikhs. She then said ‘Jo hamse takrayega, choor choor ho jayega'(our enemies will be destroyed) is her slogan.

Mamata then assured the gathering of Muslims that there is nothing to be scared of. She resorted to an Urdu ‘Sher’ proclaiming that only God’s will prevails and not the ill-thoughts of enemies. She then scored the ultimate self-goal. Mamata claimed, “The faster they capture the EVMs, the quicker they will go away”.

Even the staunchest Modi-haters and anti-BJP political voices have stopped blaming the EVMs after being thoroughly proven wrong time and again. However, Mamata Banerjee is perhaps yet to realise that. Twitter users also questioned her choice of tag words for each religion.

Mamata and her cadre seem really rattled by the BJP’s rise in the state. The violent reactions, even arrests of people who chant ‘Jai Shriram’ in the state, the loss of 18 seats and the subsequent switch of many TMC leaders to BJP all might spell doom for the TMC government in the 2021 assembly elections.

Oops! Pakistan-born British boxer Amir Khan says Pakistan’s chances of winning World Cup ‘depend on match-fixing’

Slip of tongue or a Freudian slip? Pakistani-born boxer Amir Khan seems to have opened up an unnecessary controversy after he made a few open remarks claiming that Pakistan’s chances of winning world cup depend on how they fix matches.

A video clip of Amir Khan has gone viral in which he is seen discussing cricket with other experts. Analyzing the prospects of Pakistan cricket team in the ongoing world cup, Amir Khan said that the results depend on various aspects including how the Pakistani cricket team fixes the games. Amir Khan’s statement has now made the Pakistani fans perplexed and red-faced.

“I think any team in the world cup have a great chance. It just depends on the draw, depends on match-fixing…on the matches how they fix the game. I think with cricket, it is a very difficult sport. If you are starting bad, it is hard to get the points back… In my opinion, Pakistan has to start very strong early,” said Amir Khan.

The candid statements by the London based Pakistani boxer have evoked mixed reactions with some attacking him for having no knowledge about the sport while some others have expressed their anger after he made a few candid statements.

The cricketing season of the year has begun with the ICC Cricket World cup in England where 10 teams are sweating out to attain the glory. Pakistan has already played two matches in the first round-robin stages of the tournament, losing the first one cheaply to underdogs West Indies while defeating the host England in their second game.

India led by Captain Virat Kohli is yet to begin their World cup adventures. India is set to take on South Africa on June 5. The latter have lost their both opening matches. South Africa will be hoping for redemption after their humiliating upset against Bangladesh.

Dear ‘secular’ media, hailing Eid is good, but why so much negativity on Hindu festivals

Many media organisations who claim to religiously follow the principle of ‘secularism’ are often found indulging in blatant Hinduphobia and bashing of Hindu festivals while gushing over the festivals of other religions. These media outlets have a dubious distinction in maligning Hindu festivals while glossing over the uncomfortable truths about the festivals of other religions.

The modus operandi espoused by such media outlets entails pontificating Hindus about the vices purportedly associated with their festivals and holding the festivals responsible for the perpetuation of those vices. This procedure is exclusive only for the Hindu festivals and for non-Hindu festivals, lofty ideals of brotherhood, peace, inclusiveness etc. are attached while glaring vices are intentionally concealed.

Here are some of the media outlets for whom Hindu festival bashing is one of the means to uphold their secularism:-

The Quint

Social Media posts by The Quint on different festivals

In an attempt to malign the Hindu festival of colours-Holi, the Quint had proceeded to brand the Holi festival as an occasion used by kids to unleash terror on the streets. On Diwali, the Quint published an article claiming that firecrackers should be done away with as there’s nothing religious about them. On Navratri, the fasting became an unhealthy practice for the Quint while during Ramzan and Eid, the scientific effects of fasting came out as very prominent that one should make it part of his/her daily life.

The Scroll

Another notorious media outlet known for its anti-Hindu inclinations fretted over pollution caused by bursting of crackers that accompany the Hindu festival of Diwali. It also published a post sending those celebrating the festival of Holi on a guilt trip by pointing out the terrible water crisis gripping the country. On the other hand, during the Muslim festival of Eid-Al-Adha(Bakrid), when millions of goats are sacrificed, which has a terrifying impact on the ecology, the Quint shared an effusive post on how the goat market in Mumbai was celebrating the festival.

The Wire

The social media posts by the Wire on different festivals

Perhaps the most repugnant theories to vilify Holi after the semen filled balloons theory was run by the Wire which carried a post that said: “The festival of Holi perpetuates rape culture”. It even advanced to disparage Tamil culture by reducing Jallikattu to animal abuse and machismo. However, the Wire maintained a pin-drop silence on the display of ‘masochism’ on Muharram, when men roam the streets slashing, whipping themselves and even mutilating children. Even Diwali wasn’t spared, attempts were made to tarnish the festival of light-Diwali by calling its tradition of firecrackers as the chokehold of tradition.

The Huffington Post

Huffington Post published an article slamming the Hindu tradition of Karva Chauth by calling it a medieval festival that upholds and promotes patriarchy. However, on the Christian festival of Easter, Huffington Post felt that the festivity should herald a bond of brotherhood between Christians and Muslims. The centuries-old Tamil tradition of Jallikattu was termed as ‘cruel practice’ but the Huffington Post found the merciless killing of millions of goats on the occasion of Bakrid as a compassionate deed.

The media articles on festivals have a distinct pattern. If one notices the headlines and the body of the articles, one would easily notice that the words associated with  Hindu festivals are rape, sexual harassment, violation, water scarcity, smoke, pollution, choking, animal abuse, patriarchy, regressive culture and such. But with Eid, Easter and Christmas, the words that are perpetuated are peace, love, blessings, brotherhood and joy. This is a deliberate attempt to paint Hindu festivals with negativity and hate, a subtle message of Hinduphobia.

A pattern emerges from the manner in which these so-called ‘secular’ media outfits portray the Hindu festivals in a bad light while conveniently ignoring the transgressions caused by celebrations of festivals of other religions. A concerted attempt is being made to make Hindus feel guilty about their age-old cultural traditions and practices so that instead of taking pride in their cultural mores, Hindus feel ashamed of continuing with them.

Mamata can’t seem to escape Jai Shri Ram, even her Eid post attracts the slogan

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who has sort of declared war against Jai Shri Ram slogans, can’t seem to escape them. She may send people to jail for chanting the slogan, but that seems to be only encouraging them to openly revolt against her.

Last night, after sighting the moon, Banerjee took to social media to send greetings for Eid. However, even her Eid post attracted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ comments from citizens who seem to be deriving the pleasure in riling up Banerjee.

The same trend continued even on Twitter.

Someone even added another arch-nemesis of Mamata, a meme to the tweet.

All in all, netizens had a field day trying to get under Mamata’s skin.

Election Commission to announce election schedule in Jammu and Kashmir after Amarnath Yatra concludes

The Election Commission today in a press release said that it will consider the state assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir later this year. The schedule for the same will be announced after the Amarnath Yatra is concluded.

The Jammu and Kashmir state assembly was dissolved in November last year after parties sent letters to the Governor via Twitter, WhatsApp staking claim to form the government. The state has been under the Governor’s rule since June last year.

In November last year, the former chief minister and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti had confirmed the speculations that the party is getting support from National Conference and Congress to form a government in the state. Media and Social Media was abuzz with speculations about this possible alliance. Mufti had taken to Twitter to post a copy of the letter she has written to the Governor of J&K to inform about the alliance. She accused that she was unable to send the letter via fax to the Raj Bhavan, and the Governor was not available on phone. Therefore, she tweeted the letter on Twitter, tagging the official Twitter account of J&K Governor.

On the other hand, People’s Conference leader Sajad Lone had also sent a letter to the Governor staking claim to form a government with the support of BJP. Lone also had informed that fax at the Raj Bhavan was not working hence he had sent the letter via Whatsapp to the PA of the Governor.

After the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014, no party had won a majority to form a government. PDP had won 28 seats, BJP was in the second position with 25, while NC and Congress had won 15 and 12 seats. As no party or alliance was able to form a government, Governor’s rule was imposed in the state in December 2014. In March in the following year, PDP and BJP decided to form an alliance and PDP leader and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed sworn in as the chief minister. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed died in January 2016, and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti became the CM in April 2016, after a brief Governor’s rule. But there were serious differences between the alliance partners, especially on the handling of separatists by the Mehbooba government. In June last year, BJP had pulled out of the coalition government and the state was put under Governor’s rule again.
