Mayawati trains guns at Congress, calls Digvijay Singh a ‘BJP agent’, accuses the party of using Dalits

During the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, the mythical opposition unity was touted with great fanfare. Among the many ‘united’ faces, were that of Sonia Gandhi and BSP supremo Mayawati hugging it out with Prince Rahul looking on in adulation.

However, a few months after the event, the mahagathbandan seems to be crumbling like a house of cards. Today, BSP supremo Mayawati held a press conference and trained guns at the Congress party.

Speaking about the alliance, she said that Digvijay Singh doesn’t want an alliance between the Congress party and BSP because he is scared of central government agencies like CBI and Enforcement Directorate. Hilariously, she called Digvijay a ‘BJP agent’ while refuting the allegations that it was because of her that the alliance was falling through.

She said that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi’s intentions for a grand alliance was pure, but some leaders from within the Congress party are sabotaging such plans. She also revealed that Congress is scared to give Muslim candidates tickets for fighting elections because they are scared of the BJP, and asserted that BSP cannot do that.

She also accused the Congress of using Dalits but not doing anything substantial for the community.

Calling Congress arrogant, Mayawati said that Congress in a bad shape and yet, they think they can fight and win elections alone. She also asserted that it is this arrogance that has led to the Congress party’s downfall.

India launches ‘Operation Samudra Maitri’ to provide assistance to Tsunami hit Indonesia

The Indian government has launched a massive rescue and assistance operation to provide support for Indonesia, as the country has been ravaged by earthquake and Tsunami. According to the reports, the Indian Navy will be dispatching two transport aircraft and three naval ships carrying relief material to Indonesia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.

The MEA in a statement said that the relief operation ‘Samudra Maitri’ for humanitarian assistance was launched after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Sunday.

Sharing our resources with a close friend.
We have launched ‘Operation Samudra Maitri’ to assist victims of earthquake & tsunami in #Indonesia. Two IAF aircrafts have departed carrying onboard medical personnel and relief material today. Press Release at https://t.co/GgLU995N0R pic.twitter.com/oNK7beVBDR

— Raveesh Kumar (@MEAIndia) October 3, 2018

The Indian government has dispatched two Indian Air Force transport aircraft, C-130J Super Hercules and C-17 on Wednesday morning with medical personnel and relief material. Reportedly, the C-130J aircraft is carrying a medical team along with tents and equipment to set up a field hospital, while the C-17 aircraft is carrying medicines, generators, tents and water to provide immediate assistance.

Additionally Indian Navy has also dispatched three Indian Naval Ships —INS Tir, INS Sujatha and INS Shardul to carry out humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR). According to the MEA, these Indian Navy ships are likely to reach the Central Sulawesi province of Indonesia by October 6.

The recent twin quake-tsunami disaster has ravaged Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi province and the death toll has reached more than 1,400. The magnitude-7.5 quake struck at 5:02 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, generating a devastating tsunami. This tragic incident comes as Indonesia is still recovering from recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake which had struck Indonesia’s resort island of Lombok in August, killing at least 500 people and injuring more than 1,300 others.

The Indian armed forces have a wide experience of disaster relief operations both at home and abroad, where they have been the core of relief operations. India, being one of the global superpowers, has been swift in responding to emergency situations and providing assistance to countries that have been devastated by the natural disasters. The Indian Navy, a blue-water navy has always stood up for the challenge and has successfully demonstrated its capabilities in various HADR operations and has received praise from the global community in the recent years.

The staggering resemblance in rhetoric between Pakistan’s UNGA speech and Congress’ election talk

0

The General Assembly of United Nations has seen some of the most unusual and unprecedented incidents occur within its hallowed walls. From Gaddafi’s speech to Chavez calling former American president George W. Bush Jr. ‘The Devil’, the general assembly has continuously sparked controversy but the recent move by Pakistan in the general assembly is unprecedented.

Pakistan exercising its ‘right to reply’ in a debate about terrorism in the United Nations general assembly took a route that is all too familiar to the average news-following Indian. The entire reply seemed like it was taken from the opposition party rallies and hastily put together for an argument.

The Pakistani diplomat interestingly used a word that created by the Congress party hierarchy. “Hindu extremist” is a term that the Congress first associated with Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangha and Bharatiya Janata Party.

On numerous occasions, Congress has labelled the BJP and the RSS as ‘Hindu extremist’ organization. Recently The then Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah in the run of the state polls called the Bharatiya Janata party ”Hindutva Extremist.”

It is not only Siddaramaiah, but Congress president Rahul Gandhi has also frequently talked about Hindu extremism and how it is the biggest threat in India. A Wikileaks diplomatic cable reveals that Rahul has warned the then US ambassador Timothy Roemer that growth of ”radicalised Hindu Groups” which create religious tensions in India could pose a bigger threat to the country than the infamous terrorist organization Lashkar- e- Taiba(LeT).

It is important to mention here that this entire narrative of ”Hindu terrorism” and ”Hindu extremism” has been debunked a long time ago. Continuing with finding the source of the Pakistani diplomat’s tirade against India, the diplomat also raised another political rhetoric used by the Congress to target the incumbent government as a legitimate argument against India and Indian institutions.

The Diplomat stated that in India there is a state-backed patronage of the religious superiority of one group throughout the country. He added, “the breeding ground of terrorism in our region is the RSS centres of fascism”. This again is another rhetoric perpetrated by the Congress. It is amusing that Pakistan, where even Ahmadiyyas aren’t considered worthy enough because of their religion, would talk about

Rahul time and time again has stated how there is nothing short of fascism that is being perpetuated in this country by the BJP and in turn by the RSS. In January this year, he accused BJP and RSS of being Fascist. Not only Rahul but Congress leaders have been making such ill-informed remarks for quite some time now, a few years back a few Congress leaders accused BJP of turning India into a ‘Neo-Fascist‘ state, which is eerily similar to what the Pakistani diplomat pointed out.

It is pretty clear that there is a pattern here. The diplomat in all his attacks against India used the reasoning and words of a particular Indian political party.

As one goes through the Pakistani response, the pattern seems more and more clear. The Diplomat mentioned Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath next. According to the Diplomat, “Members of India’s minorities, including Christians and Muslims, are publically lynched at the hands of Hindus elites, where an unabashed Hindu extremist Yogi Adityanath, who openly supports the superiority of the Hindus, serves as the face of the largest Indian state Uttar Pradesh.”

Yogi has always been surrounded with controversy but all of that was of electoral nature, Congress during the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh state polls, which BJP swept had made similar comments. Congress has indulged in similar political discourse when they barely secured the Karnataka State Assembly. Instead of introspection, they blamed Yogi Adityanath and the BJP’s ‘Hindutva’ for their less than moderate victory in the state.

Interestingly enough, The Pakistani diplomat also took a dig at the BJP national president Amit Shah and somehow behaved like an opposition politician from India instead of a statesman form Pakistan. pakistan also quoted from the opposition’s playbook while attacking India on National Registration Of Citizens in Assam. The Diplomat stated – “For a country where Right to citizenship to Bengalees in Assam is being arbitrarily rescinded and who have suddenly been made stateless and have been called ‘termites’ by a prominent Indian leader, where churches and mosques are torched, is surely not qualified to give sermons to others.”

This again is the line of the opposition where they tried to paint the drive to rid illegal aliens from the country being influenced by religiosity rather than legality. All in all every single point that was raised by the Pakistani diplomat was taken from the Congress and its allies handbook of political rhetoric.

In a democracy, opposition plays an important part, a part of holding the government accountable but that should not be at the expense of the Country and its international stature. Disdain or disliking for one party or the government should not be a justifiable cause for playing into an adversarial plot of the enemy.

‘Veiled’ terror: Terrorists resort to wearing ‘burqas’ to escape security forces

0

In an alarming development in South Kashmir, security forces have raised grave security concerns regarding the increasing use of burqas by terrorists to execute terror activities and avert military operations, reports Times of India. Recently in Shopian, South Kashmir, terrorists, under the disguise of burqas, snatched a rifle from a policeman before killing him. According to the reports, more than a dozen such incidents have been reported in Kashmir in last one year where terrorists, disguised in a burqa ambushed the armed forces, thereby taking them off-guard and inflicting serious casualties.

In October 2015, two people were injured when a terrorist clad in burqa opened fire in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.  In July 2017, 3 terrorists wearing burquas entered one of the branches of Jammu & Kashmir Bank and looted away Rs 5.20 lakh at gunpoint. This desperate bid to rob the bank also testified how hard the terrorists were hit by Prime Minister Modi’s demonetisation move.

Earlier this year, a similar incident had occurred in Tral where Mushtaq, a dreaded LeT terrorist, clad in a burqa, attempted to escape the jail but failed when the grenade thrown by him in the police station to help him escape ended up killing him. It was suspected that the women who had earlier come to meet him at the police station passed on the burqa to him which he was wearing.

The Times of India report further mentions one more incident which saw two terrorists wearing burqas to evade arrests. Earlier this year, during an operation to arrest Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Shopian district, the duo, later identified as Samir Wani and Firdaus Ahmed, were cornered by the security forces while trying to flee the village wearing burqas. In the operation, Wani’s sister sustained serious injuries while obstructing armed forces from carrying out their duty. The duo was finally gunned down later.

West Bengal: Muslim clerics and scholars protest demanding hike in stipend to Imams and funds for Madrasas

Mamata Banerjee, who is known for her proximity to the Muslim community, is set to face a big challenge as influential clerics and scholars from across the state, few known to be extremely close to the Chief Minister, are taking out a rally demanding hike in stipend to Imams and State funds for at least 10,000 Madrasas across the state.

Lambasting at the Chief Minister for playing the ‘majority appeasement card’, the clerics have come out in the open and asked Mamata Banerjee that if the state has enough funds for sponsoring Durga Puja then why not for Imams in the state.

The chairman of The All Bengal Minority Youth Federation (ABMYF), Mohd. Kamarujjaman, while speaking to Times Now, reiterated, that the Muslim community had voted for Mamata Banerjee hoping that their demands will be met, but in the last 7 years, she has done nothing to improve their conditions. He furthered that in the last six years the Imams have been drawing a stipend of Rs 2500 a month whereas the State donates approximately Rs 28 crores to Durga Puja committees each year.

Mamata Banerjee who for all this while has been known to play the minority appeasement card in Bengal is now facing threats from the State’s minority itself, who have come out in full strength to protest against the State Government, blaming them to play the caste-based politics.

Earlier too, in 2016 Mamata had faced similar threats when over 10000 Muslim clerics had taken on the city roads raising similar demands.

Last few attempts of Mamata’s political gimmicks, however, have seemed to be backfiring on her. Stuck between this political disorientation, last year almost during the same time of the year, people had called out at the West Bengal Chief Minister, accusing her of minority appeasement over her decision to fix Durga idol immersion time which coincided with the Taazia procession during Muharram. Following the announcement, a PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court which claimed that the announcement had hurt the religious sentiments of the majority community, following which the Calcutta High Court had pulled up Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government over their decision.

In July 2018, Trinamool Congress opened a new party office at Bolpur which had a separate ‘Thakur Ghar’, a puja room, with several deities, including a replica of Ajmer Sharif Dargah installed in it. However, this step hadn’t gone down too well with the BJP that has accused the TMC of using it as a cover for their ‘minority appeasement’ policy.

In this political bewilderment, it seems, it is slowly becoming difficult for Mamata Banerjee to exhibit her real frame of mind. Being accused of taking to ‘soft Hindutva’ approach lately, on lines of Congress President Rahul Gandhi, since people are upset with TMC’s ‘minority appeasement’ policy, in March this year, she did a u-turn on Ram Navami celebrations by overturning the initial orders of banning the display of arms by allowing ‘restricted’ display of arms in the procession.

Watch: Massive fire breaks out in Calcutta Medical College, patients evacuated in bedsheets

0

A fire broke out at Calcutta Medical college at around 7:58 AM today. The medical college which is situated in central Kolkata had smoke coming out of from one of its buildings. It is believed that the fire originated from the Pharmacy section of the Hospital. Ten fire engines are at the spot to combat the flames.

According to officials, around two fifty patients were evacuated to safety after the fire broke out. The fire department was alerted after relatives of the patients who usually wait in front of the pharmacy of the hospital spotted smoke coming out of the building at around 8 a.m.

West Bengal’s Disaster management authority officials are also present at the spot along with the fire brigade and the police. The probable cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed by the authorities. A senior fire brigade official speaking to IANS stated – “The fire began in the ground floor of the medical college at around 7.58 a.m. The reason behind the blaze is yet to be ascertained.”

Calcutta Medical college has several buildings inside its complex, the black smoke caused huge panic and hysteria among the patient’s relatives and people on the ground as well as the staff working there. The evacuation process was hasty and no proper caution was taken. Some even were evacuated on their bed sheets with their saline pouches still attached to their veins. Many patients were seen lying on the floor, which aided the concerns of the patient parties.

After the fire broke out in the Calcutta Medical College, the second oldest medical college in India, founded in 1835. Some of the patients evacuated were taken to other State-run hospitals and other medical institutions. This is the second fire that has brought the city to a halt.

A few days ago, a prominent market in Kolkata, Bagri market was burned down to ashes. Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s Mayor Sovan Chattopadhyay commented – “I have been told that patients have been evacuated, we are looking into the incident’. This is just another incident where the lack of civil safety in the city of Kolkata has caused great pain to the citizens of the city and the state.

Here is why the Supreme Court should consider banning the burqa

0

Imagine going through life with your face and mouth covered, near blindfolded, able to see the world only through a dense wire mesh over your eyes. A sense of being buried alive. And why?

All because it is presumed that men will not be able to control their sexual urges if they gaze upon a woman. The burden of this supposedly crazed male sexuality and the onus of it is put on the woman.

It is time for India to put a ban on the burqa, along with imposing severe penalties on anyone trying to force a woman to wear one. The Constitution of India recognizes all citizens as equal, regardless of gender, religion or caste. This constitutional right to equality has always been understood in an active sense rather than a passive sense. In other words, the Indian state has always actively used the Constitution to root out social evils.

At the very outset, our Constitution banned untouchability in all forms. Over the years, several new laws were framed in order to address caste-based atrocities in society. The most prominent example of this would be Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989. An activist interpretation of equality has also been used to address the systematic subjugation of women, such as specific laws against dowry and domestic violence.

As such, it is almost an anachronism, not to mention a national embarrassment, that the burqa has not been banned in India yet. The burqa robs a woman of her individuality, her identity and her right to personal expression. In fact, it could be argued that the burqa is less of a garment and more of a cage, intended specifically to lock away a woman as the property of a man.

The burqa reduces a woman to a sexual object, with that sexuality being controlled or held in trust by a man. It should be pointed out that the burqa diminishes men as well because it presupposes that:

(1) Men are incapable of treating women as anything other than objects of sex.

(2) Men who set their eyes on a woman will not be able to control sexual urges.

And in true patriarchal style, for all these supposed failings of men, the burqa punishes the women!

All this is very medieval, if not worse. This has no place in the twenty-first century, where women are doing everything from flying fighter jets to winning Nobel Prizes in Physics.

There are opponents of such a ban who talk about a woman’s “choice” of wearing the burqa. This is an argument that is so obtuse that it could only be made in bad faith. Think about women who have been imprisoned behind the burqa their whole lives, not allowed to deal with the world on their own terms, not allowed to develop their own identity and deprived of education and career opportunities. Women who are dependent on the men who keep them behind a burqa. How meaningful is it to talk about the  “choice” of wearing the burqa in such a context?

No wonder then that the burqa has already been banned in some form or another in several countries of Western Europe, such as France, Belgium and Austria. The Netherlands and Denmark are the two latest countries to place a ban on the burqa. Bans in various forms, such as bans on burqas in schools and colleges, or other public places or in certain jurisdictions, are also in place in Germany and Norway.

All of these are democratic and technologically advanced countries as well as free societies with high levels of gender equality. The reputed Freedom House report ranks Norway as the freest country in the whole world, with a perfect score of 100/100. The Netherlands, with a score of 99/100, comes second.

It is time for India to join the list. For India to take a stand for gender justice and the dignity of women. With one of the largest Muslim populations in the world, this might also impart some much-needed momentum to women’s empowerment in Islamic societies worldwide.

As a practical matter, we understand that a burqa ban might become a wedge issue for political parties. A tug of war over vote banks and a blame game over “secular” and “communal” could leave this issue stuck for decades in the political swamp. The real victims would be crores of Muslim women who are being denied their human dignity.

There has to be a better way to get this done. A slick new way. Like a rockstar, you know? Fortunately, with India evolving into a “judicial democracy” of late, now there is. Muslim women have been stuck with the injustice of the burqa for 70 years. Let’s hope that the Supreme Court decides to rock their world.

Bajrang Dal worker found dead under mysterious circumstances in UP

0

An 18-year-old Bajrang Dal worker, Rahul Verma’s dead body was found under mysterious circumstances in the Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh. Rahul’s family has alleged that he was poisoned to death by some of the residents of his colony who threatened to kill him in the past.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9cgDFpH7Vw]

On Tuesday, 2nd October 2018, at around 7 PM in the evening Rahul Verma’s body was found on the hill adjoining the village, behind the Mahuba Jail. The deceased Rahul Verma was a resident of Kanshiram Colony & was purportedly involved in a dispute with some of the youths of the colony. Rahul’s mother has asserted that he has been killed by five youths from the area including Kallu, Javed, Naseem, and wants swift action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

It is alleged that Rahul had alleged that he was facing threat from the alleged persons and filed a complaint with the police. But police did not take any action. After the discovery of the body, locals came out in the street and held a protest demanding the arrest of the killers.

Of late the hate crime against Bajrang Dal workers & activists across India has increased alarmingly. A few months back, a 23-year old Anandan, was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight by CPI(M) workers while he was on his motorcycle. Another such incident saw Shanoj, a BJP activist savagely murdered by six assailants in New Mahe near Kannur in Kerala. In such a scenario, one can only pin their hopes on CM Yogi Adityanath to take cognizance of the incident & ensure speedy justice delivery to the victim’s family.

Here are some facts about Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra’s controversial new home in Shimla

According to reports, Priyanka Gandhi’s house in Shimla is finally nearing completion and the Vadra family will have ‘griha pravesh’ during Diwali. Under construction since 2008, this house has faced many controversies and several redesigns. Let’s revisit some of the controversies surrounding the house:

The Vadras had purchased a plot of 3 and a half bigha of agricultural land in Charabra hills, 13 km uphill from Shimla. Located at the height of 8,000 feet, the plot was purchased for around Rs 47 lakh from US-based Satish Kumar Sood and Satinder Sood in 2007. The then Himachal Pradesh government had relaxed norms under Sec 118 of Land Reforms and Tenancy Act because under land laws of the states only permanent residents can buy land in the state. Others who want to buy land have to obtain relaxation under the said law. The plot is just 500 meters away from The Retreat, the summer resort of the president of India. Due to this proximity, clearance from President’s secretariat had to be obtained for the house.

The construction of the house began in 2008, after demolishing the existing two-storey cottage as Priyanka wanted the house to have look and feel of the surroundings. In 2010, most of the partially constructed house was pulled down, as construction quality was poor and Priyanka was not happy with the house. Construction was restarted with a new architect and a new design. In 2011 and 2013, two additional adjacent plots from different owners were purchased, for approach road to the house and to accommodate the new design.

One Devinder Jit, who owns a huge plot of land next to Priyanka Vadra’s property, wanted to build a hotel on his land. But the government rejected his application citing proximity to high-security Retreat. Even High Court also had rejected his appeal in this matter.

In 2014, RTI activist Dev Ashish Bhattacharya filed an application under RTI seeking information regarding the house. The application was rejected by Deputy Commissioner’s office, stating that such information can’t be revealed due to security reasons as Priyanka is an SPG protectee. Bhattacharya approached State Information Commission, and in June 2014 the commission had directed the state government to provide the information sought within 10 days.

Following the order of the Information Commission, Priyanka Vadra had filed a writ petition at the Himachal Pradesh High Court challenging the order, and High Court had stayed the order to reveal information against the RTI application. In April 2016 the High Court issued a notice to Priyanka Vadra in the case.

Bhattacharya is alleging several irregularities in approving the purchase of land and seeking file notings, copies of the sale deeds, relaxations being given, the land status of Priyanka as on date. The irregularities being alleged are:

  1. Under Sec 118 of Land Reforms and Tenancy Act, land can be purchased only once for only one purpose. But in this case land was purchased three times, and for different purposes, like the construction of house and horticulture.
  2. Under the law, land can be approved to be purchased for horticultural purpose when it is approved by a permission board constituted for this purpose. Bhattacharya says no such board was constituted, he also questioned the approval for horticulture use when Priyanka Vadra has no known expertise in horticulture.
  3. According to the act, for land approved to build a house, the house must be completed within 2 years, else the land will have to be returned. But the Vadras have been allotted extensions as their house was not completed. Both Congress and BJP governments of the state granted extensions.

In June 2016, BJP MLA from Himachal Pradesh Suresh Bharadwaj raised an objection to the house, saying that it is a “high-security zone” and such activities are not allowed in such a zone. He said that the house is close proximity to Presidential Retreat and Kalyani helipad, and people in the area have been refused such permission in the past. VVIPs like Prime Minister also stay at the Retreat during their visits and the helipad is exclusively by the Air Force for such VVIP movements, therefore the permission granted for the house should be withdrawn, the MLA had demanded.

NSUI president, who is accused of seeking sexual favours for political posts, appears on posters on women’s convention

0

Students wing of Congress, National Students Union of India (NSUI), President Fairoz Khan, who was recently accused by a woman member of NSUI of abetting female members of the organisation to make sexual relationship with him in lieu of political posts, was seen on the posters of a ‘Girls’s Convention’ held in Indore.

Fairoz Khan on the poster of ‘Girls Convention’

Ironically, as one Twitter user pointed out, there were no women on the stage which talked about problems faced by women.

When the allegations against Khan surfaced, Congress had decided to carry out a probe and even a committee was set up for the investigation. The alleged incident took place when Khan was in Bengaluru ahead of Karnataka elections. The victim, in her letter, wrote, “The National President has not only mentally tortured me to compromise but he has also mentally tortured my younger sister to come to his room. He has also asked my friend to meet him at his private residence at night. There are many other young female activists who also faced the same but they have refrained from coming out publicly so that no other girl is molested or mentally tortured.”

Earlier, when allegations of sexual harassment against Congress IT cell member Chirag Patnaik had emerged, Congress IT cell head Divya Spandana had expressed ‘full support’ to Patnaik. In September, Bandari Bala Kumar, Sircilla unit Youth Congress president, was taken into custody after he allegedly entered the hostel in the town and harassed the girls allegedly under inebriated condition.
