Sam Pitroda’s ‘temples don’t create jobs’ comment must be attributed to malice, because it can’t be ignorance

0

Recently, most liberal-left, neutral and pink papers carried an article on Sam Pitroda’s famous line “temples do not create jobs”, delivered to a group of impressionable minds in Karnavati University.

This, from Scroll, for example.

Even if one were swimming in the stratosphere, one would know the association that Pitroda has with the Congress. He was Rajiv Gandhi’s go-to man for all things IT. He has also served as an advisor to former PM Dr.Manmohan Singh. A cursory search on the net will reveal his American education (Illinois Institute of Technology) and his long-standing association with INC over decades.

So, it is fair to assume that Pitroda, unlike some others in Congress is not a bumbling idiot, fumbling his way through issues that he does not fully comprehend. Why then would he make such a factually erroneous economic statement. To justify its claim to obfuscation let us examine some statistics from across the world:

In the year 2017 the holy city of Jerusalem, received over 3.5 million Jews, Christians and Muslims. This was a 25% increase over 2016 tourist influx, contributing a record $5.5 billion to the Israeli economy. One naturally assumes that this inflow of tourists to Jerusalem year on year must have generated a plethora of jobs for the aviation, hospitality and the local tourist sector of the city. How many jobs must have been thus created? The tourism industry in Israel employs over 2 lakh people or 6% of the workforce of Israel.

As of 2013, the annual Haj event, which sees millions of followers of Islam descend on the holy city of Mecca, generated $16.5 billion or around 3% of Saudi Arabian GDP. This horde of tourists in all probability gave a huge fillip, over the years, to the local industries, air travel, hospitality to the location. One can only hazard a guess about the number of jobs and the cascading effect on the local economy of the region. Some estimates have suggested that the revenue generated through Haj pilgrim visit, related expenditure, will exceed $150 Billion by the year 2022.

Although not widely known, the Vatican City economy based on the contribution from Roman Catholics worldwide, the sale of mementoes, the sale of publications and tourist tickets for museum visits, generated a total revenue of $315 million in the year 2013. This earning is without taking into account the multiplier effect on the airline, hospitality sector for the Vatican.

Back home, in the year 2013, the world’s richest Tirupati Balaji temple in AP, received 206.8 million domestic tourists, pushing the state to the top of the tourist destination table.

As of 2012, tourism.com had estimated that world religious travel one of the fastest growing segments in travel, would double by the year 2020, making it one of the largest contributors of economic prosperity.

One can go on and on citing examples of thriving religious-tourism across the world, that has provided employment to large chunks of humanity, irrespective of their caste, creed and religious affiliations. Yet Mr Pitroda in all his bombastic righteousness has singled out that “Temples do not create jobs”.

We can assume that his denials have something to do with “Temples” and not religion-based tourism per say. In the backdrop of the Ram Temple deliberations, this remark can even be construed as a direct attack on the Ram temple. Coming after the recent Hindu-Pakistan, Congress for Muslims comments made by his colleagues in INC, should this remark be taken as a validation of the anti-Hindu, anti-Ram temple bigotry frequently displayed by the members of the Grand Old Party of India?

It is also intriguing that this statement by Sam Pitroda comes right after Rahul was reported to have been apologetic about his temple visits in a meeting of Muslim Intellectuals. One wonders if this is ‘damage control’ by the Congress considering their core vote bank is indeed, the minorities.

Watch: A maulana goes violent live on TV while debating on triple talaq, hits women

A self-proclaimed Islamic scholar who is also an alumnus of Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University [pdf], Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi lost his cool live on television while debating on the triple talaq bill and violently hit another panellist.

In the heat of the moment during the debate, it can be seen the maulana beat up a fellow panellist, Farah Faiz, one of the petitioners in the Supreme Court against triple talaq, and he had to be physically restrained from continuing to hit her.

In the video, it can be seen that the Maulana is hitting the woman and using abusive words against her. Maulana is also a member of All India Personal Law Board and former spokesperson of enthusiast Darul Uloom Deoband, which is best known for issuing ‘fatwas’ like CCTV cameras and dancing and music being un-Islamic.

Following the violence, Qasmi was taken into custody by the police from the studio for his behaviour.

Qasmi has been very vocal in his support of triple talaq and has said that triple talaq valid but the ‘misuse’ should not be allowed.

Khirki Extension case: Patiala House Court frames charges against Somnath Bharti

The Patiala House Court in Delhi has framed charges against AAP leader and former law minister of Delhi Somnath Bharti in the 2014 midnight raid case. According to reports, the court has fixed the dates of September 4 and 7 for recording the statements of witnesses in the case.

Somnath Bharti and 16 others are being charged under the allegations of molestation, assault, threat, promoting enmity and rioting. According to reports, the court had ordered to frame molestation charges against Bharti on June 30. Bharti and the other accused had allegedly assaulted a Ugandan woman in January 2014. The Patiala House Court has reportedly observed that there is sufficient prima facie case against the accused to frame charges and start legal proceedings.

Bharti will now face trial under the sections 147/149 (rioting), 354 (molestation), 354c (voyeurism), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506(outraging a woman’s modesty) and 186 (obstruction of public servants from discharging their duty) of the IPC.

A Ugandan woman had appealed to the court on January 18, 2014, alleging assault against unknown persons. An FIR was lodged by the Delhi Police on the woman’s complaint. The police charge sheet reportedly stated that Somnath Bharti and others had ‘raided’ a locality in Khirki Extension near Malviya Nagar on the midnight of 15th January and had assaulted the Ugandan woman who was staying in a rented accommodation.

It is notable here that Bharti is also facing charges of domestic abuse filed by his wife.

Chandrababu Naidu led TDP to bring in no-confidence motion against NDA, gets support of opposition parties

The Chandrababu Naidu led Telugu Desam Party has officially announced its decision to bring in a no-confidence motion against the ruling NDA government.

As per a document accessed by MyNation, TDP MP Srinivas Kesineni has written a letter to Lok Sabha’s Secretary General, wherein he gave a notice to no-confidence motion under the rule 198(1) of “Rule of Procedures and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha:

Chandrababu Naidu led TDP to bring in a no-confidence motion, gets support of opposition parties
Copy of no confidence motion as accessed by My Nation

As seen in the above copy, the MP has requested the secretary-general to include the no-confidence motion under the revised list of businesses for 18 July.

A DNA report has claimed that Chandrababu Naidu has written to various opposition parties to seek the support for his no-confidence motion. The motivation for the motion is said to be what TDP considers as an injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh for non-deliverance of the promised special status to the state. Incidentally the same reason was also cited by the TDP when it withdrew from the NDA in March.

The DNA report also claimed that a no-confidence motion against the Modi government would be brought in by opposition parties on 18 July – which will mark the start of Parliament’s monsoon session. The session would go on till 10 August and would see 46 bills being taken up for discussion.

With regards to the TDP’s motion, as claimed by a News Minute report, a TDP delegation has been meeting various parties including BJP and Congress allies but has only managed to generate a lukewarm response. Some of the parties which are supposed to have supported the no-confidence motion include the Telugu Rashtra Samithi (TRS), DMK, CPM and NCP.

It is interesting to note that the TDP has chosen to go down the no-confidence motion path. Just after its withdrawal of support from the NDA, it had brought in another such motion which was not taken up by the Lok Sabha.

Are Congress’ political and intellectual ecosystems pulling in opposite directions?

So, the Congress Party has distanced itself from Shashi Tharoor’s “Hindu Pakistan” remarks. Those of us familiar with social media know that the term has been in use for a long time already among hate-filled liberals. The term, in fact, has become part of the now established vocabulary of Hinduphobic terms like “Hindu Pakistan,” or “Hindu Taliban,” each one coined ironically by adding the word Hindu before something horrific established by members of the religion of peace.

Some time ago, when the fear of gau-rakshaks was the “in” thing, I had noticed an escalating dictionary of Hinduphobic hate words: cow-terrorists, cow-Nazis, coming into use in popular media. Same pattern there. Same failure to find something monstrous created by Hindus which could be used to coin a term that would capture the amount of hatred they were feeling. At that time, I remember writing an article helpfully suggesting the use of the term “Cow-Commie” if liberals felt so strongly against the menace of gau-rakshaks, but it seems the term did not catch on.

Yes. So it does come as a sort of surprise when the Congress pulls away from Shashi Tharoor using the term “Hindu Pakistan.” Not just pulling away, but bolting away in the opposite direction. For once, it feels good to see the Hindu right seize on something and make the other side run away.

But then, it was only the other day that I pointed out the demonization of Hindu icons like Hanuman, Swastika and even the Om symbol. Remember how all it takes is for a smalltime journalist from a left-wing portal to stick her neck out of the window, see a Hindu and feel her Hinduphobia rising like a wicked bout of acidity in those Eno commercials. And then she can write the article that will set in motion a worldwide PR campaign of damning whatever symbol that unfortunate Hindu outside her window happened to be sporting at the moment.

So, what is happening? While they are out there fusing the ancient Om symbol into a Nazi emblem, why is the political mothership pulling away? Why are they seemingly at cross purposes?

This is why one of the alternate titles for this article, in my mind, was to ask if the tail is wagging the dog.

It is not hard to imagine what the master plan is supposed to be here. The rise of Modi and the election of 2014 has sent a chill down the secular spines. The fear of the political Hindu is real. Just ask the party of red atheists in Kerala that has just signed up for ‘Ramayana month.’ Sources say that if this shrinking party finds its base collapsing any further, they might even adopt ‘Mandir wahin banayenge‘ as their new slogan.

This is a massive departure from the days when India’s Prime Minister would openly proclaim that Muslims have the “first right” to India’s resources. The dirty work has been delegated to people much lower down the food chain. The aggression against Hindus will be carried out by people in the wider ecosystem. The top leadership of the Congress will hide under a rock and maintain plausible deniability until the political environment improves.

That’s the plan. Except these things rarely hold up like they are supposed to. Like mahagathbandhans. Because when two forces of extreme greed make an arrangement, they are always going to keep gnawing at each other. And before you know it, someone is sobbing and calling the whole thing a ‘poison’ in order to distance themselves from the trainwreck.

Historically, the Congress Dynasty has done very well at keeping both its political and intellectual ecosystem on a tight leash. The crown here should actually go to Sonia Gandhi, much more than any of her predecessors. Mindful of the diminished footprint of the Congress political ecosystem, she yielded lots of space to the intellectual ecosystem. The National Advisory Council was an extra-constitutional miracle that lasted ten full years and did an amazing job of harmonizing the anti-Hindu agenda of “intellectuals” with the political agenda of the party to win elections. The RTE was a masterpiece in this regard, a poison pill so perfect in its packaging that half a century may pass before this disaster is addressed. By that time, the poison would have worked its way through, devastating Hindu institutions, leaving nothing behind.

But Rahul Gandhi is hit by a double whammy. The Congress political footprint has declined massively, even beyond the tipping point that made Sonia Gandhi craft the National Advisory Council. He is left with little ground to cede. His intellectual hounds are running amok. Worse, they sense both his weakness and his intellectual deficiencies.  How could they not?

Today a Rahul Gandhi, far from appearing like the sinister puppeteer of JNU’s Tukde Tukde gang, sometimes comes off as the sidekick of Kanhaiya Kumar. Perhaps even a puppet himself.

The tail is not just wagging the dog. The tail is becoming the dog.

Rahul Gandhi says #IAmCongress, Twitter reminds him what Congress really is

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today was his benevolent, wise self on Twitter. He personified Congress and shared a tweet claiming his greatness.

Soon his supporters and Congress leaders started trending the hashtag #IAmCongress. No doubt it was a pre-planned social media propaganda as within no time most Congress leaders active on social media and its social media heads were trending the hashtag.

Soon though, the hashtag became a popular trend on Twitter, but not something that Congress and its supporters would have liked to see. Many Twitter users started recollecting Congress’ deeds over the years.

Congress is the party that helped Warren Anderson leave India after the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

Congress imposed the emergency and later coined the term Hindu Terror to whitewash crimes of Islamist jihadis.

Congress PM Nehru gave a Bharat Ratna to himself.

With hundreds of reactions pouring in, the PR stunt seems to have backfired. Congress has played bizarre stunts on social media earlier when things did not work out in their favour. It ran a Twitter poll and attempted to ‘win’ it by blocking users en masse. The official Congress handle of @INCIndia is known for frequent goof-ups and shares the fake news. Its IT cell head Divya Spandana was reportedly seen asking workers create multiple accounts and it is believed most of Rahul Gandhi’s followers are bots.

CBI files chargesheet against Farooq Abdullah for allegedly siphoning off crores of rupees

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah has landed into trouble, after the CBI has filed a chargesheet against him and three others, in a case alleging misappropriation of Rs 43.69 crore, The Hindu has reported.

As per the report, the matter pertains to the Jammu and Kashmir cricket association which received about Rs 112 crore from BCCI between 2002 and 2011 out of which Rs 43.69 crore was allegedly siphoned off. According to the reports in the media, Abdullah headed the J&K cricket association from 1980 to 2015 when he was finally removed over allegations of corruption.

Besides Abdullah, the chargesheet has been filed against erstwhile general secretary Mohammed Salim Khan, treasurer Ahsan Ahmed Mirza and a banker Basheer Ahmad Misgar.

The case in this matter was filed in March 2012, which as per a Livemint report, was filed by the associations’s treasurer Manzoor Wazir. It has been alleged that the funds which were sanctioned for the development of infrastructure were pocketed by the accused.

More than three years later in September 2015, the High Court directed that the case be transferred to the CBI, following which an FIR was lodged. The CBI has since then alleged criminal conspiracy and breach of trust in this matter. As a result of the FIR, Abdullah and others have been booked under sections 120 B and 409 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

Following the filing of the chargesheet, Abdullah has been quoted as claiming that he has full faith in the judicial system and would fully cooperate with the court’s proceedings under this matter. His son Omar Abdullah posted a tweet where he confidently affirmed that his father would be found innocent at the end of the legal proceedings.

Kumaraswamy wastes taxpayers’ money by distributing expensive gifts to MPs, BJP MP returns gifts

Politicians are known to be callous with public money. Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister of Karnataka who recently declared how he has ingested the poison of coalition government and broke down on stage during a rally, has displayed that he is no different.

It has now come to light that Kumaraswamy government is distributing expensive gifts to all MPs ahead of the meeting convened to discuss the Cauvery issue with all MPs of the state.

Rajeev Chandrashekhar, BJP MP, Tweeted today that he was glad that the Chief Minister was convening a meeting to discuss the issue but he also enquired as to why such expensive gifts were being sent to all MPs. In the same tweet, Chandrasekhar also mentioned that he is returning these gifts.

He said that the Karnataka government claims austerity but it is spending money in such expensive gifts even while others aren’t even getting their salaries paid.

The gifts, as claimed by Rajeev Chandrasekhar seem to be an iPhone X which costs around anywhere between Rs 88,000 and

And what looks like a Moochies pure leather bag. While we couldn’t find the price of this model specifically, similar Moochies bags can cost upwards of Rs. 4000.

One wonders what the motive of sending expensive gifts to the MPs might be and why the taxpayers’ money should be used for such extravagance, especially when the Congress-JDS government has been repeatedly saying that there isn’t enough money in the state and recently, the petrol prices have been hiked for farmer loan waiver.

WCD Minister orders immediate inspection of all child care homes run by Missionaries of Charity

Maneka Gandhi the Women and Child development minister has ordered the immediate inspection of all the child care homes which are runs by the organisation Missionaries of Charity, PTI has reported. This is said to be a result of Gandhi taking cognisance of the allegations illegal adoptions and child trafficking allegations against the organisation.

As per the report, the states have also been directed to ensure that all the child care institutions have proper registrations and linked to the nation’s adoption body. This is mandatory as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 – which states that Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA).

A Times of India report has stated that some orphanages have resisted this mandatory registration, which resulted in a Supreme Court petition by the disgruntled, which was eventually dismissed in 2017. Such a resistance has also meant that compliance has been low with about 4000 child care institutions yet to register out of 7300.

The report claims that even those 2300 institutions which have linked themselves to CARA have not brought their children under the adoption system. It has been estimated that these child care homes have about 2.32 lakh children.

Such a scrutiny against the Mother Teresa founded child care home comes days after a nun confessed on camera about selling a baby for Rs 1.2 lakh.

It has been reported that four babies were said to be missing from the Missionaries of Charity home in Ranchi which resulted in the arrest of two nuns. Since then the four kids have been rescued by the police, with the authorities claiming that three were sold and one was given away by the child care home.

Delhi Police responds to Delhi CM’s rant on law and order situation in national capital

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who usually likes to wash his hands off as a chief minister, yesterday took to Twitter to pass the buck on to the BJP for ‘failure of law and order’ in Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal was referring to the two suicides in the national capital in last few days. A 17-year-old girl was found hanging in the restroom of the police post in Tilak Vihar, Delhi, even as parents of the girl and the boy she had allegedly eloped with were fighting in the adjacent room. In another case, one Anissia Batra, wife of one Mayank Singhvi, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace.

Not taking it lying down, Delhi Police tweeted that the law and order situation in Delhi is under control and that the crime rate has actually come down in 2017 and 2018.

The police also clarified and gave an update in the two cases talked about by Kejriwal.

This is not the first time Kejriwal has locked horns with Delhi Police. Crossing lines of basic decency and unbecoming of a chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal had described police personnel as ‘thulla’ in an interview with controversial and casteist journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, following which a defamation complaint was filed by a Delhi Police constable against Kejriwal. The responsibility for the police and law and order of the national capital lies with the Central government.
