‘Hindu Pakistan’ jibe, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor sued, summons issued by Kolkata Court

Senior Congress leader and an accused in the Sunanda Pushkar death case, Shashi Tharoor has been summoned by the Kolkata Court.

A case has been filed against Tharoor for ‘hurting religious sentiments and insulting the constitution’. As per reports, a case under Section 153A/295A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 2 of The Prevention Of Insults To National Honour Act, 1971 has been filed by a Kolkata based lawyer, Sumeet Choudhury against Shashi Tharoor.

Recently, Tharoor had made a controversial statement that if BJP comes to power in 2019 again, it will turn India into Hindu Pakistan. Though Congress and its leaders are known for their derogatory remarks and false equivalences, they also have the tendency to stand by defending their statements with impunity. Tharoor has not only stood firm to his statement but also refused to apologise for the same. Not only that, even the Congress party did not openly condemn the statement but gave an excuse that what Tharoor said was in his personal capacity.

The petitioner has said that Tharoor’s remark was an insult to the constitution and was aimed at creating conflict and religious divide. Ironically, Tharoor has authored a book ‘Why I am a Hindu’, which intends to push Congress’ stand on ‘soft Hindutva’, shows how his understanding of Hinduism is at the same level as a beauty pageant contestant’s understanding of world peace.

If ‘Genuine Hindu Causes’ are so fragile, is it worth defending?

0

In a thoughtfully worded short essay, Shri Jagannathan, the Editor of Swarajya magazine, highlights the fragility of the Hindu cause. However, it appears that he has a strong conviction that such a fragile cause is defensible and indeed more, that it is worthy of a defence.

Two incidents in the “news” in India are highlighted there and discussed in good, yet brief, detail. One is where a Hindu outfit’s leader has reportedly claimed that the PM of the country cannot react for every murder in the nation in a disparaging tongue, “Do you expect Modi to respond every time a dog dies in Karnataka?” Poor use of language and intemperate in nature, yes. In a way, it is very non-Hindu too.

Even in the battlefield, Bhagawan Krishna advises Arjuna to fight without anger and to kill the opponent combatant with respect. It is, in fact, epitomised in the great epic (itihās) of Hindus, the Ramayana. Bhagawan Rama pays due respect to Ravana, an outstanding Śiva bhakt of distinguishing qualities and makes an example out of his own good behaviour for his own brother Lakshmana to imbibe. There is no or little anger in Rama’s approach to Ravana; on the contrary, it is always respectful. Clearly, this is what Shri Jagannathan wanted to express. That is, Hindus should emulate the behaviour of Rama and the teachings of Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.

Sadly though the editor also appears to imply, perhaps inadvertently, that the cause of Hindus is so fragile that a stray incident or two will derail the whole of the cause significantly if not completely. Maybe he meant if a bunch of such incidents continue to happen that will be the likely result and used this occasion as a forewarning.

To this author’s memory though, none seems to object or claim that the so-called minority rights are “sure to suffer” if such transgressions occurred on the opposite side of the Hindu camp. In fact, every day across India five times a day the Muslims broadcast their prayer on loud(est) speakers. The prayer proclaims in no equivocal terms that “There is no God but Allah!” amongst other such things. Does this not hurt non-Muslim religious sentiments and the dignity of non-Muslims? Is not a right to life inclusive of a right to a dignified life as per the interpretations of the secular constitution of India by the Hon’ble Supreme Court?

One wonders why the so-called minority rights or secularism are never “sure to suffer.” Similarly, every time a conversion to Christianity happens is it not because it is overtly claimed that Jesus is the only way to salvation, or else it is eternal hell after death? Is it not an insult to non-Christian religious sentiments and a violation of the non-Christians right to live a dignified life, their fundamental right to life?

What is so fragile about the Hindu cause(s)? What is wrong with the system or the society, the media, the educational system, the Indian thinking that the Hindu causes alone are so fragile? What is it symptomatic of?

If any cause is so fragile it is already a lost cause. There is nothing worthy of such a cause, be it Hindu or not, genuine or not. It is time to take stock of the reality.

The reality is that Hindus are told that they do not belong in India or anywhere, not overtly (and not verbally) of course. And this is digested well by most Hindus and becomes their own internalised Hinduphobia. Then, it expresses unconsciously as the fragility of the Hindu cause.

Many thanks to Shri Jagannathan and Swarajya magazine for bringing out this fragility, an existential threat, to the notice of all Hindus suffering silently (and often themselves not realising it) from their own internalised Hinduphobia.

The roots of the disease of internalised Hinduphobia has gone deep and one of the many ways it expresses itself is the outrage of the sort that is rightly criticised by Shri Jagannathan as “anti-minority bigotry”.

The answer does lie not in sidelining them. The solution lies in fixing the fragility that provokes and forces them to be so. Then these people have nothing to be intemperate about or be bigoted about. Sidelining voices of a fragile and vulnerable community will lead to only more such outbursts.

Let the cause be fixed, not the symptom. Please forget the symptomatic quick fix offered by the Western models. It does not work in the West, it will not work in the East.

Let us be pro-life, let us be ayurvedic in our approach to solutions for problems. Ayurveda recommends an engaged yogic body, not a weak and fragile body that ought to be sidelined.

‘Racist’ foreign journalist brazens it out even as Hindus seek apology for her insulting tweet

0

We had earlier written how Washington Post had not only written a biased piece on journalism in India based on half-baked data but their India bureau chief, Annie Gowen, had even shifted the blame to the news agency Associated Press (AP) and tried to absolve themselves of responsibility of any journalistic duties. Recently, Washington Post’s India chief Annie Gowen again kicked up a storm by her racist comment on the ‘Militant Hanuman’ or ‘Angry Hanuman’ image that seem to have sent the ‘liberals’ of India into a state of fear and frenzy.

Following the Twitter purge, which saw many accounts, including that of politicians, lose followers, Washington Post Bureau Chief Annie Gowen requested Twitter to ‘delete’ all her ‘Angry Hanuman’ followers as well.

Many on Social Media lashed out at Annie Gowen and pointed out that while her tweet displayed blatant Hinduphobia, it certainly also reeked of white supremacy.

On being called out on her Hindu-hate, Annie, instead of apologising, brazened it out and claimed how she feels people with ‘Angry Hanuman’ profile picture are a ‘threat’.

She proceeded to make a rather bizarre claim in order to defend herself from the ‘white supremacist’ charge. She foolishly asserted that she “doesn’t want to be cut up into pieces” implying that is something people with “Angry Hanuman” accounts advocate.

Annie, it is indeed ‘white supremacy’ to assume that everyone with this profile picture wants to cut you up into little pieces when clearly, there is no evidence of the same. She again got a lesson on how Ku Klux Klan, which advocates white supremacy, also claims it is not racist.

People were also upset that an artwork of one of the most beloved Hindu gods was reduced to a ‘meme’ by Washington Post Bureau Chief.

It is almost as if the “unwashed Hindus” who don’t subscribe to what the white world’s interpretation of existence is, doesn’t deserve to be treated with dignity and respect even in their own land and Annie Gowen perfectly represents that mentality.

Annie Gowen’s blatant Hinduphobia and racist behaviour makes one wonder whether Washington Post subscribes and endorses her views. Lord Hanuman has also been described as a fierce warrior in Hinduism. To reduce him to a ‘meme’ is rather unfortunate. Having said that, to quote a verse from a very popular hymn:

भूत पिशाच निकट नहिं आवै।
महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै॥

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Muslim party’ leader Kamal Nath writes ‘open letter’ to Lord Shiva

Congress party has been pulling out every trick in its book to regain lost power. From Rahul Gandhi, reportedly branding Congress as a ‘Muslim party’ to now, Madhya Pradesh Congress party chief Kamal Nath writing an ‘open letter’ to Lord Mahakaleshwar of Ujjain.

According to reports, he has requested the Lord in the open letter to bless people of Madhya Pradesh so they vote BJP out in the upcoming state assembly elections and end the 15 years of ‘misrule’.

The Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain is one of the 12 ‘Jyotirlingams’ of India. It is a highly revered shrine for devotees from all over the country. However, Kamal Nath’s letter to the Lord of this particular shrine seems to have another motivator. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is to start his state-wide Jan Ashirwad Yatra from this very place today.

In the letter, Kamal Nath has reportedly alleged that under the BJP rule, farmers are committing suicide, girls are being raped, youth are unemployed and corruption is on the rise. He has also added that the promises made by Shivraj Chouhan’s government have remained unfulfilled and time has come for him to pay for his misdeeds.

The Congress has reportedly announced that it will track Shivraj Chouhan’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra and follow it with a public awareness campaign to highlight the failures of the BJP government.

Jitu Patwari, working President of the state Congress has stated that his party will launch the Jan Jagaran Abhiyan (public awareness campaign) from Tarana, Ujjain constituency on July 18th and will track the route of Chouhan’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra. Patwari reportedly alleged that the state’s debt burden has gone up to 1.90 lakh crores and over 90% farmers are unable to repay their debts and committing suicide. He also added that several scams have happened during the last 15 years.

BJP President Amit Shah is scheduled to flag off the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Ujjain today after a public rally. State BJP spokesperson Rajnish Agarwal has reportedly stated that the Congress has failed in every front, including in the role of an opposition party. He added that the Congress does not have a leader with the popularity and stature of Shivraj Chouhan and hence they are resorting to gimmicks.

The Jan Ashirwad Yatra is the third such campaign by Shivraj Chouhan. It is to cover 230 assembly constituencies and 700 public meetings are planned under the campaign.

Kamal Nath was in news last month for another letter, though it was not open as this one. In that letter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, he had urged him to attend the death anniversary of a popular OBC leader in the state as the state ‘has a large OBC population’ and asserted that his attendance will be helpful as they are on ‘campaign mode’.

Christian man in Kerala wants to die a Muslim, High Court asks the govt to help him

The Kerala High Court in a judgement dated 26 June has directed the state government to frame rules under section 4 of the Muslim Personal Law(Shariat) Application Act 1937 so that the petitioner can be governed by the Shariat law, Live Law has reported.

As per the report, the petitioner Abu Thalib was born a Christian but embraced Islam three years ago and wishes to continue with his new faith for the rest of his life. He is married to a Hindu. He thus petitioned the High Court to make true his wish of being governed by the Muslim Personal Law.

As explained in a Times of India report, the state government has been directed to frame rules which would grant an approval to his conversion to Islam, as currently, he has no proof that he has changed his religion.

According to Live Law, Abu Thalib has expressed the need to make such a declaration about his conversion as, in a recent case a Christian to Muslim convert named Simon Master, was not buried as per Islamic rites owing to his family not recognising his conversion. The matter of Simon then reached the Kerala High Court, when a Muslim body asserted that he be buried as per Islamic Rites.

Thus Abu Thalib wanted to give a statutory declaration to avoid Simon like confusion but was unable to do so as the absence of government’s rules in this regard, prevented him from doing so.

In absence of conversion laws, the petitioner claimed that some Islamic bodies like Maoonathul Islam Association, Ponnani and Tharbiyathul Islam Association, were issuing conversion certificates, but they had no legal standing.

Following his plea, the two-judge bench of Justice C.T Ravikumar and Justice A.M Babu directed the government to frame the required rules, which as per the government’s representative would be done within three months.

Did you coin the term ‘Hindu Terror’ to position yourself as ‘Muslim party’? BJP asks Rahul Gandhi

BJP has hit back hard at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi after an Urdu newspaper Daily Inquilab reported that Rahul had termed Congress as a “Muslim party”. Rahul Gandhi is reported to have said so during a meeting with ‘Muslim intellectuals’ on July 11th.

The newspaper clipping had gone viral on social media earlier.

Taking cognizance of the social media posts and the report in Urdu media, today BJP attacked Congress saying that the party was trying to fight 2019 elections based on religion.

“Rahul Gandhi should clarify his statements and repeat it in public if he said it,” senior BJP leader and Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman demanded in a press conference. She added that this statement exposed the mindset of Congress.

Sitaraman further suggested that this statement by Rahul Gandhi should be seen in conjunction with ‘Hindu Pakistan’ statement by Shashi Tharoor and support of Sharia Courts by Congress leaders. She also recalled how Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister had talked about Muslims having the first right on resources.

Sitaraman further aggravated the attack on Congress by claiming that such tactics by Rahul Gandhi’s party will lead India to another partition. She said that if there are any communal flagellations in India from now on till 2019 elections, Congress will be solely responsible for it.

She also said that the term “Hindu terror” which was coined during the UPA regime also appeared a part of this communal agenda in retrospect. “Did you coin the term ‘Hindu terror’ so that you can later claim yourself as a Muslim party?” Nirmala Sitharam asked Rahul Gandhi.

The fiery BJP leader also slammed Congress for creating fear mongering that BJP will change the constitution. She recounted how Congress had changed the constitution several times and even changed the preamble and structure during Emergency.

IIT Jodhpur develops a cost-effective Rajasthani clay based water purification technology

IIT-Jodhpur has reportedly come up with a unique approach towards water purification. They have developed a low-cost, environmentally friendly solution that uses the power of the sun and Rajasthani clay to purify water.

It is estimated that India, due to its largely rural population, is the largest user of groundwater. India uses around 230 cubic kilometres of groundwater per year, which comprises more than a quarter of the global usage.

These waters have often become contaminated with harmful substances such as Dyes, fluoride-rich chemicals, and industrial discharges. The team lead by Rakesh Kumar Sharma of IIT Jodhpur is trying to rid the water from contamination by developing a Rajasthani clay-based photocatalytic water purification technology.

This technology can be used to treat textile contaminated water which is a major problem in western Rajasthan. The key ingredient here is the Rajasthani clay which can purify polluted water quickly. The photocatalysis based on Rajasthani clay maintains their inherent surface activity. The recovery can be up to 99% after the water treatment, thus the water becomes reusable. Since the process uses natural clay there is no damage to the environment either. The purified water is also safe to be used as drinking water.

“However, the present set of photocatalysts are expensive and practically not viable. Also, there are very fine particles and very difficult to retain after treatment of water.” Sharma told Times of India.

IIT Jodhpur currently aims to prepare a prototype to provide a technical solution for water purification to remote and rural communities by equipping mobile vans with this technology. They are also considering the licensing of this technology to businesses.

Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain appointed the Chancellor of Kashmir Central University

Former military secretary and Indian Army veteran Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed the Chancellor of the central university in Kashmir. According to reports, the President of India Ramnath Kovind, in his capacity as the visitor to all central universities has cleared the appointment.

The Army veteran and acclaimed academic has been appointed for a tenure of 5 years. It is notable that recently the President had appointed diplomat G Parthasarathy as the Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir. As per the report in the Economic Times, while Parthasarathy replaced Governor NN Vohra as chancellor in Jammu central University, Lt General Hasnain will replace nuclear scientist Srikumar Banerjee in his post.

Lt General Hasnain is a highly decorated Army officer. He has served in Jammu and Kashmir as the corps commander of Chinar corps and has also been reportedly a part of the track 2 diplomacy initiatives with Pakistan. A recipient of many Army awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, he had started his military career in the 4th battalion of Garhwal Rifles. 65-year-old Lt General Hasnain had retired in 2013 as the military secretary.

Lt General Hasnain is an acclaimed writer and orator too. He is associated with the think tank Vivekananda International Foundation. Both the appointments of G Parthasarathy and Lt General Hasnain is being regarded as key strategic moves as both have extensive experience in dealing with Kashmir and Pakistan sponsored terrorism. Many people have termed Lt General Hasnain appointment as an important step in curbing the worries of radicalisation and anti-national activities suspected in the educational institutions of the state.

G Parthasarathy was the consul general of in Karachi. He was the Indian high commissioner in Pakistan during the Air India plane hijack incident in 1999. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is currently under the Governor’s rule after BJP withdrew its support from the Mehbooba Mufti government. The security forces in the valley have also constantly trying to eliminate terrorists and maintain peace in the valley. The appointments of Lt General Hasnain as the Chancellor of Kashmir Central University at such a time is being considered as an important move towards educating the Kashmiri youth to denounce radicalism and return to the mainstream.

It is also notable here that recently the President has appointed many new Chancellors in Central Universities in Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Kerala, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu and Lucknow.

Supporting Sharia Courts is one of the lowest points of Congress

I have always maintained that the slogan “Bharat ke tukde” should be taken seriously. It is not just something crafted by a motley bunch of unemployed (and unemployable) college students. Rather it should be seen as a very serious statement of intent.

Understandably, with Modi sarkar in power, there has been a growing clamour for a uniform civil code. While that remains a distant dream, the first few steps have been taken to bring Indian Muslims under Indian law in some meaningful way. First, triple talaq was done away with, then the Haj subsidy was junked, now Nikah Halala may be on its way out and Aligarh Muslim University is battling hard to keep its minority status and deny SC/ST students their rights.

Please bear in mind that each of these instances above is at best either a partial victory for common sense or a work in progress. But the signs of a shift are all there. The leaders of Indian secularism have made note of this and they intend to strike back hard against the authority of the Indian state.

Leading this charge is the Indian National Congress, which is ready to burn every square inch of India down to dust if it helps them back to power. So, when we heard of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s idea to overwhelm the country with hundreds of Sharia courts, it is no surprise that the Congress eagerly signed up for it.

First of all, a word about the constitutionality of Sharia courts. There is an SC judgement that holds that Sharia courts are not unconstitutional in themselves, although their “verdicts” have no force of law. On technical grounds, this is correct. Anybody can set up a kangaroo court and start resolving disputes between people who volunteer to bring their cases before them.

The problem lies in how this is going to be practised. We can all see what’s going to happen: the weak and marginalized will be forced to submit to the authority of these Sharia courts. Their “verdicts” will be enforced by fear of physical violence.

The first victims here are going to be Muslim women. But, have you seen any feminists speaking up against this grievous assault on the rights of women? Of course, you haven’t. Because throwing Muslim women at the mercy of fundamentalist mullahs is now a time-honoured tradition of feminism. If you remember, when the triple talaq debate was at its peak, one renowned radical feminist lawyer actually argued in favour of triple talaq … her point was that Muslim women might otherwise get murdered by angry husbands. Evidently, “Teach Muslim men not to murder women” is not a slogan that has caught on among the feminist community.

The larger point is about what a swarm of Sharia courts would mean for our country. This is just the first step towards achieving a parallel state for Indian Muslims and finally another separate state for Indian Muslims, the second time in one hundred years.

Everyone knows that if you want to make something legal in India, you first do a grab and then bribe and blackmail the system to legalize it. You want to take over government land? Well, begin by encroaching just a bit…. put up four bamboo poles and tent. Then, build a little bit more a few months later. Then, build the first floor of your illegal house on the land. Then, go to local politicians and bureaucrats and bribe them to give you the permissions you lack. A year later, build another floor … then repeat the process. Everything from large housing complexes to vast slums are built this way. All Indians have seen this process in action.

The Sharia court is one such Trojan horse. Today, they don’t have the force of law. But once the system is established strongly enough, you are going to get politicians who will argue for the need to “regularize” them. With every election cycle will come the need to do another little bit extra to help build a “state within a state” for Indian Muslims.

And remember that a Sharia court for civil disputes is just the first step towards a Sharia court for criminal matters. Anybody who thinks that the mullahs who set up Sharia courts will defer to the Indian Penal Code in criminal matters is fooling himself. The AIMPLB has taken the first step here towards the … cut off hands, cut off feet, cut off neck … type of legal system that is practised in Saudi Arabia.

The legal outline for regularizing Sharia courts is already in place. Remember RTE and how “minority institutions” are allowed to exist outside the authority of the Indian state? You need to change only a few lines here and there to enable “minority courts” to come into existence.

We all know what comes next. Separate courts, then separate electorates and then Pakistan-II. In the leftover part of India, Hindus will again be a majority, which will enable the same process to start all over again. The same appeasement in the remainder of India, the same shaming and guilt-tripping of average Hindus over ‘Islamophobia.’ Until Pakistan-III is achieved another hundred years hence. Rinse and repeat till a bite-sized piece of leftover India is chewed up by its secular neighbours and lost forever.

Aligarh Muslim University student allegedly threatens to kill journalist for praising Modi, gets booked

A case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation was filed against an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student on Thursday after a complaint was filed by senior journalist Jasim Mohammad, Times of India has reported.

As per the report, Jasim who acts as the media adviser to AMU entered into the university campus on Monday to meet the institute’s spokesperson – Professor Shafey Kidwai. There he was allegedly confronted by armed students including accused student Mohammed Nadeem Ansari, who demanded that he leave the PRO’s office.

The journalist further alleged that Ansari refused to relent even after being explained the reason for his presence. As per the journalist, had he not left the campus he would have been lynched.

Incidentally, local reports have claimed that there are further sinister details within the matter.

As per a Dainik Jagran report, the journalist Jasim Mohammed was chased away from the campus as he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The report claims that the accused Ansari is a student leader. It claims that in the process of evicting Jasim, the accused were armed to kill.

Jasim, as per his website, has authored six books on PM Modi and has even written one on the RSS. He has also met the Prime Minister, where the duo are photographed with his book.

An Amar Ujala report has claimed that during their confrontation, the accused abused PM Modi by calling him a dog. He even allegedly claimed that he wouldn’t allow anyone associated with the BJP to enter the campus. The report even claims that the accused Ansari who was accompanied by 8-9 armed youths assaulted and misbehaved with Jasim. Further, it is alleged that when Jasim proceeded to leave the PRO office, Ansari threatened to kill him.

As a result of Jasim’s complaint, a case has been filed against Ansari and other unnamed accused under sections reserved for rioting, armed with deadly weapons, promoting enmity, attempt to murder, wrongful restraint, insulting to provoke and criminal intimidation.

The AMU professor Kidwai though has played down the matter to claim that the accused weren’t armed, but they had indeed asked Jasim to leave the campus. The accused student leader Ansari has denied the allegations.
