Aligarh Muslim University student allegedly threatens to kill journalist for praising Modi, gets booked

A case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation was filed against an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student on Thursday after a complaint was filed by senior journalist Jasim Mohammad, Times of India has reported.

As per the report, Jasim who acts as the media adviser to AMU entered into the university campus on Monday to meet the institute’s spokesperson – Professor Shafey Kidwai. There he was allegedly confronted by armed students including accused student Mohammed Nadeem Ansari, who demanded that he leave the PRO’s office.

The journalist further alleged that Ansari refused to relent even after being explained the reason for his presence. As per the journalist, had he not left the campus he would have been lynched.

Incidentally, local reports have claimed that there are further sinister details within the matter.

As per a Dainik Jagran report, the journalist Jasim Mohammed was chased away from the campus as he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The report claims that the accused Ansari is a student leader. It claims that in the process of evicting Jasim, the accused were armed to kill.

Jasim, as per his website, has authored six books on PM Modi and has even written one on the RSS. He has also met the Prime Minister, where the duo are photographed with his book.

An Amar Ujala report has claimed that during their confrontation, the accused abused PM Modi by calling him a dog. He even allegedly claimed that he wouldn’t allow anyone associated with the BJP to enter the campus. The report even claims that the accused Ansari who was accompanied by 8-9 armed youths assaulted and misbehaved with Jasim. Further, it is alleged that when Jasim proceeded to leave the PRO office, Ansari threatened to kill him.

As a result of Jasim’s complaint, a case has been filed against Ansari and other unnamed accused under sections reserved for rioting, armed with deadly weapons, promoting enmity, attempt to murder, wrongful restraint, insulting to provoke and criminal intimidation.

The AMU professor Kidwai though has played down the matter to claim that the accused weren’t armed, but they had indeed asked Jasim to leave the campus. The accused student leader Ansari has denied the allegations.
