Deadly Christmas attack in Nigeria: Over 140 dead, 300 injured in attacks by ‘bandit’ groups in Plateau

0

At least 140 people were killed in a brutal attack by armed rebels in the central Nigerian state of Plateau. The death toll rose sharply on Monday (25th December) evening after the region experienced major disturbances over the Christmas weekend. The armed groups known locally as “bandits” launched orchestrated assaults on 20 different communities in Central Nigeria, the region that has been plagued with religious and ethnic tensions for several years.

“As many as 113 persons have been confirmed killed as Saturday hostilities persisted to early hours of Monday,” Kassah, head of the local government in Bokkos, Plateau State, told local reporters on Monday (25th December). “We found more than 300 wounded people” he added.

The authorities further informed that all the injured persons had been taken to the hospitals in Bokkos, Jos, and Barkin Ladi.

Reports mention that the attacks took place when people in the villages were asleep on Sunday (24th December). The ‘bandits’ arrived in the villages and launched a series of brutal attacks, burning homes, and killing people.

“We were sleeping when suddenly loud shots rang out. We were scared because we weren’t expecting an attack. People hid, but the assailants captured many of us, some were killed, and others wounded,” Markus Amorudu, one of the residents of the village was quoted as saying.

The region, which lies on the border between Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south, has long been driven by ethnic and religious tensions.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the latest attack or who was to blame.

Security personnel have been sent to prevent further clashes in the area, where tit-for-tat killings between herders, who are predominantly Muslim, and farmers, who are predominantly Christian, frequently escalate into village raids by heavily armed groups.

The attack, which began in the Bokkos area, spread to Barkin Lath, where 30 people were found dead. According to the reports, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwan denounced the incident as “barbaric, brutal, and unjustified” on Sunday (24th December). “The government will take proactive measures to reduce ongoing attacks against innocent civilians,” said Gyang Bere, the governor’s spokesperson.

Known as “Nigeria’s Middle Belt,” Plateau State has seen a number of ethnic and religious conflicts. The region’s violence is frequently portrayed as a conflict between Muslim herders and primarily Christian farmers.

Compounding the problem is the fact that the area has long been terrorised by bandit militias that raid villages and loot the inhabitants for ransom, operating from bases tucked away in the forest. Conflicts over natural resources have been one of the most visible factors contributing to the conflict’s persistence.

Amid the turmoil, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Lagos governor elected in February, has promised to attract more investment to Africa’s largest economy to address the continent’s persistent security challenges.

Both the police force and the joint security task force Operation Safe Haven are yet to comment on the attacks as rescue operations are ongoing at the affected communities.

‘Felt insulted’: Groom’s family in Hyderabad calls off wedding after bride’s family fails to serve mutton bone marrow to guests

In a bizarre incident, a groom’s family in Hyderabad, Telangana called off the wedding after seeing that the girl’s family had not served mutton with bone marrow to the wedding guests.

According to reports, the argument over the petty issue snowballed into a full-blown fight with the local police having to enter the scene to pacify the groom’s family. Officials from the nearby police station attempted to persuade the groom’s family out of the altercation, but they remained unrelenting, furious over what they perceived as an ‘insult.’

The groom’s family claimed that the bride’s family had purposefully concealed from them that bone marrow was not on the menu. Ultimately, the engagement party ended with the groom’s family calling off the wedding.

According to reports, the bride’s family was from the Nizamabad district and the groom’s family was from the Jagtial district in Telangana. The families had decided on the wedding and the engagement took place at the bride’s residence recently.

The bride’s family arranged for non-vegetarian meals for the bridegroom’s family members and relatives after both families decided on a traditional and lavish wedding.

Just when everything was going according to plan, one of the guests pointed out that the non-vegetarian meal did not include any bone marrow of mutton. The hosts responded by saying that they hadn’t included bone marrow in the meals, which ultimately led to an altercation between both parties and the groom’s family calling off the wedding and the bride’s side agreed. Both families then left for their respective places without any reconciliation.

Interestingly, a similar incident was reported from Hyderabad in February this year wherein a man named Mohammad Zakeer had called off his wedding, claiming that the bride’s family was giving him second-hand furniture as dowry.

‘Christmas is cancelled here’: Pro-Palestine protestors disrupt Christmas celebrations, raise Intifada slogans, 6 arrested after clash with NYPD

On Christmas evening (25th December), hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters stormed the streets of New York City and clashed with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) personnel. The pro-Palestinian protesters attempted to cancel Christmas celebrations chanting “Christmas is cancelled here” which is being described as per reports as ‘a war on Christmas’.

They brought several signs glorifying ‘Intifada’, the Arabic word for ‘rebellion’ or ‘uprising’, and blaming Israel for the ongoing Israel-Hamas war that started after the 7th October massacre by Hamas terrorists in Israel. One of the signs carried by protesters read, “While You Are Shopping Bombs are Dropping.”

As they chanted slogans, protesters were seen throwing fake blood on a mock nativity scene, which celebrate the birth of Jesus. The protestors carried the blood-covered Nativity scene stating “No Joy In Genocide,” across the Big Apple on their shoulders while chanting “Christmas is cancelled here.”

Apart from slogans calling for the cancellation of Christmas, the pro-Palestine hooligans kept yelling, “Long live the intifada,” and “NYPD KKK, IDF they’re all the same,” among other controversially charged slogans. They also mobbed Rockefeller Center where the popular Christmas Tree and ice skating rink are located. It has been an attraction for people to enjoy their holidays.

According to the New York Post, clashes broke out in the night including near St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue prompting police to rush through the crowd and arrest the violent protestors.

Speaking with Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for the NYPD stated that several arrests had been made in Monday’s protest, and one officer sustained a shoulder injury.

Following the violent clashes between protesters and officers, Police arrested protestors near Grand Central Station and Union Square. In a video shared on X, a police officer can be seen holding his throat. It was later disclosed that a protester had punched him in the throat.

According to law enforcement sources, at least six protestors were arrested. The NYPD arrested four protestors for disorderly conduct, one for menacing and one for graffiti.

As per reports, the protestors defaced the exterior of the Union Square Holiday Market where they left stickers and flyers with “Zionism is terrorism”, “Free Palestine”, and “Murdered by Israel” written on them. One of the protestor stomped on Israel flag, as per the visuals of the protest.

Some pro-Palestine protestors also raised slogans calling for a global Intifada and accusing Israel of committing crimes. The protestors could be heard raising slogans like “From NY to Gaza, Globalise the Intifada;” “Netanyahu is a warmonger;” and “Israel kills babies”, as per reports.

Earlier in the day, pro-Palestinian demonstrators staged a protest outside the houses of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Virginia and Washington, D.C respectively.

On Sunday night, the pro-Palestinian protestors disrupted Christmas carolers at Washington Square Park as their car caravan blaring music marred the Christmas festivities.

During the Christmas Day demonstration, the protestors targeted the Manhattan area which is popular among holiday revelers and tourists. This prompted Police to be on alert outside the News Corp headquarters on Sixth Avenue which houses Fox News, The Post, the Wall Street Journal, and other company holdings.

Last Week, pro-Palestine protesters disrupted transportation at major hubs throughout New York City including Penn Station, Grand Central Station, and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, pro-Palestinian protestors have been rampaging the streets of Western nations exerting pressure on them to force Israel to announce a ceasefire.

On 28th October, Pro-Palestine protestors held large demonstrations in several places including the West Bank, London, Berlin, Rome, and New York. In a spree of such protests, at least 7,000 pro-Palestinian protesters stormed the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, US, raising anti-semitic slogans. They openly cheered Hamas terrorists’ barbaric attacks on Israel.

Similar to Monday’s protest, the vandals back then had also slammed stickers that read “Zionism is terrorism” and “Zionism: hands off our universities” on the glass doors of the coffee shop.

Among one such protest, a pro-Palestine demonstrator in the United Kingdom threw a box full of painted rats inside a McDonald’s allegedly because the chain supports Israel amid the ongoing war against Hamas.

Those called by Lord Ram will reach Ayodhya: BJP reacts to CPM skipping consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir

Hours after Brinda Karat announced that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) would skip the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir, the BJP took potshots at the party on Tuesday (26th December).

Senior leader Meenakshi Lekhi remarked, “The invitations have been sent to all. Those called by Lord Ram will only reach (Ayodhya, for Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Ram Temple)”

The Background of the Controversy

Senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat on Tuesday (26th December) her party would skip the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

Defending the decision to give the grand consecration ceremony, which is to be headlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a miss, the veteran Left leader said her party doesn’t subscribe to combining religion with politics and neither does it stand for the ‘politicisation’ of a religious event.

“Our party will not attend the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. We respect the religious sentiments of the people but they (BJP) are combining religion with politics. This is an attempt to politicise a religious programme. This is not right,” Karat, a member of the CPI(M)’s Politburo, told ANI on Monday.

“Using religion as a political weapon or for advancing a political agenda is not right…It is not right what these people are doing, it’s purely political,” the former Rajya Sabha MP said

“Politics and religion must be separated and kept at a distance. Mixing them only advances the RSS agenda. When religion is used is a political weapon or a tool to advance an idea or agenda, it loses respect,” Karat added.

On whether the CPI(M) was boycotting the event, the veteran Left leader said, “There is no question of boycott. We have an understanding that using a religious function as a political weapon isn’t right.”

PM Modi becomes first global leader to cross 2 crore subscribers on YouTube, has 43 times more views than Ukranian President Zelenskyy

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel on Tuesday crossed 2 crore subscriptions and is the highest amongst top global leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only world leader to have achieved this distinction of having 2 crore subscribers on his personal YouTube channel and leads other global and Indian contemporaries by a long distance.

In fact, the global leader with the second-most followers is former Brazilian President Jair Bolsanora, who just has 64 lakh subscribers, which is a little less than one-third of the subscribers the Narendra Modi YouTube channel has.

Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro ranks second after PM Modi on the list of global leaders with the highest subscriptions on their YouTube channel, with a total of 64 lakh subscribers, which is a little less than one-third of the subscribers the Narendra Modi YouTube Channel has.

Steadily following behind is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with 1.1 million.

Similarly, with 22.4 crore views in December 2023, the Narendra Modi YouTube channel has 43 times more views than the YouTube channel of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is the global leader with the second highest number of views in his YouTube channel.

With 4.5 billion (450 crore) video views, the Narendra Modi Channel leads the pack in terms of subscribers, video views and the quality of videos being posted by political leaders on YouTube.

For many years running now, many global surveys like Morning Consult have rated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the most popular global leader, with upwards of 75 percent approval rating, far above his global contemporaries.

Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel, both in terms of views and subscribers, has far surpassed the YouTube channels of his global contemporaries.

Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel dominance mirrors his political dominance in the country and abroad.

The video views recorded by the Narendra Modi YouTube channel and its subscribers are light years ahead of the views and subscribers of the YouTube channels of other Indian political leaders and parties.

‘I have been blocked from everywhere…it’s been a year since I saw you in person’: Shikhar Dhawan pens a heart-rending note to son on his birthday

On 26th December, Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan wrote a heartfelt note to his son, who was living away with his ex-wife. Dhawan mentioned in the note that it has been a year since they met in person. Notably, Dhawan mentioned that he was blocked from everywhere, so he decided to post the note on Instagram with his son for his birthday.

Dhawan said that though he could not meet him physically, he felt connected to his son. “Papa always misses you and loves you. He’s always positive, waiting with a smile when we will meet again by the Grace of God. Be naughty but not destructive, be a giver, be humble, compassionate, patient, and strong,” he wrote.

His note on his Instagram post read, “It’s been a year since I saw you in person, and now, for almost three months, I’ve been blocked from everywhere, so I’m Posting the same picture to wish you, my boy, a very Happy Birthday. Shikhar Dhawan was granted divorce on the grounds of ‘mental cruelty’ by his estranged wife

In October 2023, a Delhi court granted divorce to Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan from his estranged wife, Aesha Mukerji, ending eight years of their marriage. While approving the divorce of the Indian batsman, the Family Court in the Patiala House complex in Delhi noted that Shikhar Dhawan’s wife had caused “mental agony” to the cricketer by forcing him to live separately from his only son for years. Dhawan got married in 2012 and had a son with her named Zoravar. She was earlier married to an Australian businessman and had two daughters from the first marriage.

Judge Harish Kumar accepted Dhawan’s charges against his wife in the divorce petition. The court stated in its decision that Dhawan’s wife either did not contest the foregoing charges or did not defend herself. Though the court refused to pass any order on permanent custody of the couple’s son, the judge granted mandatory visitation rights to Dhawan to meet his son for an appropriate duration in India and Australia. Dhawan was also allowed to chat with his son over video call. However, in the note Dhawan mentioned that he was blocked from everywhere and had to post his message on Instagram.

Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny found at penal colony in Siberia 2 weeks after alleged ‘disappearance’

0

After two weeks of continued search, Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny has been found at a penal colony in Siberia, Russia, according to his team, reported CNN.

“We have found Alexey,” his spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, said in a statement on X. “He is now in IK-3 in the settlement of Kharp in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District.”

She further said that Navalny’s lawyer had visited him earlier on Monday and that the jailed activist was “doing well.”

According to Navalny’s lawyers, they lost contact with him on December 11. Until then, he was imprisoned in a penal colony about 150 miles east of Moscow, as reported by CNN.

Navalny had “never been hidden for so long,” his team said after he missed two scheduled court hearings last week.

Meanwhile, they also warned that he had been in poor health before his disappearance after being “deprived of food” and “kept in a punishment cell without ventilation.”

Moreover, his disappearance has been linked to President Vladimir Putin’s announcement to run again in the elections scheduled in 2024, which had further sparked concerns for his well-being and safety, reported CNN.

Director of Navalny’s anti-corruption foundation, Ivan Zhdanov, said that the IK-3 penal colony in Kharp where Navalny is now being held, known as “Polar Wolf,” is “one of the northernmost and most remote colonies.”

“The conditions there are harsh, with a special regime in the permafrost zone. It is very difficult to get there, and there are no letter delivery systems,” Zhdanov wrote on X.

He further said that Navalny’s lawyer had not been allowed into the penal colony “right away.”

“It seems that the colony was prepared for his arrival in advance. The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Arkady Gostev, was there in April, and perhaps it was then that they decided to transfer Alexey there,” he added.

Navalny had been sentenced to 19 years in prison in August after being found guilty of creating an extremist community, financing extremist activities and numerous other crimes.

He was already serving 11 and a half years in a maximum security facility on fraud and other charges that he denies, according to CNN.

However, his supporters claimed that his arrest and incarceration were a politically motivated attempt to stifle his criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to CNN, Navalny has been one of the most serious threats to Putin’s legitimacy during his rule.

He used his blog and social media to expose alleged corruption in the Kremlin as well as Russian business and organised anti-government street protests.

The dissident was taken from Russia to Germany in 2020 after he was poisoned with Novichok, a Soviet-era nerve agent. Navalny had to be airlifted from the Siberian city of Omsk and arrived comatose at a hospital in Berlin.

Navalny was immediately incarcerated upon his return to Russia in January 2021 on charges of violating the terms of his probation related to a fraud case brought against him in 2013, which he also dismissed as politically motivated, CNN reported.

He has also campaigned from prison against Russia’s war against Ukraine and has even attempted to mobilise public opposition to the war.

Talk to Pakistan else Kashmir will become Gaza: Farooq Abdullah

On Tuesday (26th December), National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah courted controversy after he claimed that Kashmir would become Gaza if talks with Pakistan were not resumed by the Indian government.

Abdullah alleged, “Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said that we can change our friends but not our neighbours. If we remain friendly with our neighbours, both will progress. PM Modi also said that war is not an option now and the matters should be resolved through dialogue.”

“Where is the dialogue? Nawaz Sharif is about to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and they are saying they are ready to hold talks with India. What is the reason behind India not being ready to talk?” he brazened out.

While continuing his fearmongering about the state of affairs in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah claimed, “If we do not find a solution through dialogue, we will meet the same fate as Gaza and Palestine, which are being bombed by Israel.”

The controversial remark of the Nation Conference leader comes days after five Indian soldiers were martyred and two suffered injuries during a terror attack on two Army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

According to reports, the Army is planning to send more troops to Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch-Rajouri sector to combat terrorist activities in the aftermath of the terror attack. There also is a plan to strengthen the area’s counter-terrorist grid by increasing troop strength.

Is Raghuram Rajan the ‘disease’ or a symptom of a wider disease: Defining the Woke problem and what the solution can be

Is Rajan just a disease or a symptom of a much wider disease?

First, let me apologise for using this rather strong term to describe a man, for all his defects, is intelligent, erudite, and accomplished. With my limited English, I could not find anything better. There is no personal insult meant. I am merely questioning his politics which I am entitled to as a citizen.

Let us take each of the two options one by one and see where they fall. I leave it to you to be the judge!

First, let us consider if he is just a “disease” and not something worse.

His recent statements (and ones not so recent as well) have bordered on the bizarre and ludicrous. I would not bore you with the details since there are excellent articles that deal with that topic – such as the recent one by Karuna Gopal and Abhishek Banerji. I have also written about his assault on PLI and manufacturing which were dangerous. Other renowned academics have confirmed I was on the right track by saying India needs manufacturing jobs

His open endorsement of Rahul Gandhi and not-so-successful attempts to quote the Shehzade with multiple coats of intellectual paint that seems to wash off quickly are bad enough. And then he supports the likes of P. Chidambaram and his son who face serious allegations of corruption. As if all that were not enough, he did one better than Jairam Ramesh by trying to provide an anti-Modi spin on the huge cash haul at the premises of a Congress MP.

I am trying hard to differentiate between him and Mani Shankar Aiyar but so far have been unsuccessful. At least Mani Shankar is no hypocrite and no one outside of the Palazzo servant quarters takes him seriously. And he seems to be not stopping there. Pragya Mishra is his next target to overtake! What next? Beat Supriya Shrinate?

Only Rajan himself can explain the reasons and motives, I can only speculate. My guess is, that he is desperate to become India’s next PM if not FM – and all his recent politically loaded “economic” statements seem to show his frustration that the goal is slipping out of reach at least until 2029. One charitable excuse is that he has been granting “interviews” to so many known dynastic doormats that finding new anti-Modi things to say is so hard. He ends up saying patently nonsensical things.

While anyone can have ambitions and go for it, to see an academic at these levels is a sad sight indeed. He has reduced himself to a meme, caricature, and joke. That is why I used the term “disease”.

Let us turn to my other option – he is just a symptom of a much wider disease. Here the evidence is very strong too.

Wokeism, as we all know well, is a disease. The West at least the English-speaking parts, seems to suffer from it without a cure in sight. And Rajan is just one of the many symptoms of this disease.

We have seen the nasty plagiarism allegations against Harvard President Claudine Gay that don’t seem to die down. Even WaPo and NYT were forced to call for her to quit!  That’s like Pyongyang Times saying maybe Kim should go. Academia in the US has been completely overrun by leftist fringe and wokes and they are imposing their fascist tyranny of the minority, to quote Vivek Ramaswamy) in unprecedented ways. Universities are now full-fledged grooming centres for fringe left, no longer centres of excellence. Companies are even thinking of cutting back on hiring from such swamps. Real academics and faculty are too scared even to speak – for fear of losing their jobs, careers and worse.

What has Rajan got to do with it?

Well, the point is, given the substantial control fascist left woke Gestapo and the deep state exercise over academia, their ability to make or mar careers, cancel anyone that crosses them or reward the loyal with lucrative gigs and positions, many Indian academics (along with American or others) crawl when asked to bow. Why not board the gravy train instead of being run over by it or left on the platform? That too given your talents and skills, you are not likely to discover a cure for cancer or the next Lithium battery. When the best you can manage is another article on gender intersection or some such nonsense in pseudo-science?

That was a hint! Two things you must know about this gang of academics that have been more woke than Pelosi or AOC.

One is almost without exception they are from the pseudo-science faculties – not real science. Yes, we are talking sociology, politics “science”, economics etc.  You can’t be a Marxist physicist or Communist Endocrinologist, but you can very well be a radical leftist political “science” professor. Most are.

The second and more relevant to India is, that practically all of them are from the upper classes of Indian society. You can do an informal caste census as Rahul Gandhi demands (even in meetings with journalists!). Next time you come across some West-based Desi academic spouting anti-Modi or anti-Hindu hate, wear their agnosticism or rationalism on their sleeves or brown-nosing themselves at dacoit dynastic rears, just check the caste. You will agree.

Just as Claudine Gay types exploited the DEI and other such affirmative action moves to land lucrative jobs when their track record would not have justified it by any logical means, these Indian academics have cornered their gigs and positions by exploiting the “let’s get more POC and not be so WASPy” trend among US/UK colleges and universities that started sometime in the 80s. Before that, you had to be exceptionally brilliant even to step in and break the glass barrier.

With the opening of the floodgates, a lot of mediocre talent has swept in. They would not have stood the slightest chance in the 60s or even 70s. Having secured them, now they need to hold their positions, climb the ladder and keep the gravy train going. The best and easiest way, of course, is to sing the woke tunes and not miss a beat. If Maoist comrade Kavita Krishnan can declare her pronouns, why can’t some US-based desi academic spout woke nonsense?

All that is fine, but what’s the link to India?

The connection to Indian and Indian politics is that woke left obedience to Islamist jihadist ideologies and priorities is absolute and non-negotiable. That makes Modi and BJP public enemy No.1. Given substantial funding of these varsities by Qatar etc, this makes eminent financial sense too. India’s Stalinist left has convinced their woke pals in the USA (and West) that bringing the dynasty back to power with remote control firmly in their hands is important. Therefore, the global woke left ecosystem has now become key facilitators and force multipliers in the Stalinist anti-Hindu pogrom of the Indian left.

I mentioned the topic of caste. That brings us to an additional point that will explain the virulent woke hysteria, sickening dynastic sycophancy, anti-Hinduism cleverly dressed up as anti-Hindutva (that trick almost worked with Jews/Zionism but see below) by the likes of Shruti Kapila, Ananya Vajpayee, Salil Tripathi, Rajan, Basu, Priyamvada Gopal and the likes. There are dozens if not hundreds more. As I mentioned earlier, many are likely beneficiaries of West’s attempts to be more inclusive.

But the genuine Indian subaltern groups have now woken up to a very simple fact – most of the lucrative gigs that followed from such “let us be nice to black, brown, yellow and other POC” have been cornered by the upper caste Indian elites. They are now demanding a share of the pie. And the pie is shrinking. If Trump returns, it will get worse.

Again, what is the best way to keep riding the gravy train? Be “woker than the wokes”, attack India, BJP, and Hindus non-stop, follow the deep state party line on Ukraine, Putin, Gaza or whatever, and sing the praise of Rahul Gandhi because that is what the Indian left demands. If not, they will start talking about “privileged birth” and cast evil eyes on your nice cushy gig.

They are essentially taking out an insurance policy – one where there is not only no premiums to be paid, but it is more dollars in your bank account. Add Soros, Ford and Omidyar types to the mix, you see the point even more clearly.

Do you follow why I say symptom of a much wider disease? Rajans may come or go one day but the disease remains.

Now, what is the cure?

The Jewish lobby has already found their most potent cure – just cut off the funds. It is producing results. A lot of the leftist academics have started crawling, walking back on naked antisemitism, and issuing holy statements drafted by costly PR agencies. Some, like Gay, are holding out, backed as they are by powerful forces including likes of Obama.

Unfortunately, this cure is not available to Hindus simply because we don’t have anywhere near that financial clout. We are lambs for the slaughter.

We need to find other medicines. But first we must know the disease. And stay clear eyed. Or in other words, be woke.

Did Raghuram Rajan casually lie about his salary? Former RBI governor claims his annual salary in office was Rs 4 lakhs

Former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan recently spoke about the salary he drew while being in office. Rajan said he was paid just Rs 4 lakhs per annum as salary for heading the office of RBI Governor.

During an interview on the ‘Figuring Out’ podcast with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Raghuram Rajan disclosed that his annual salary as the RBI Governor was Rs 4 lakh. He mentioned, “I’m not aware of the current salary, but it was Rs 4 lakh per year during my tenure. The significant benefit is the accommodation – a spacious residence located a few blocks away from Dhirubhai Ambani’s residence on Malabar Hill in Mumbai.”

While Rajan claimed his annual pay during his tenure as RBI governor was Rs 4 lakhs, several reports in the media indicate that the former RBI governor may have casually lied about his annual remuneration.

In an article titled ‘RBI spared no expense in hosting Raghuram Rajan’ published in The Sunday Guardian in June 2020, the former governor who served in the office from August 2013 to September 2016, drew approximately Rs 61.2 lakhs for the entire tenure, which calculates to Rs 1.69 lakhs per month.

The article cites an RTI response that the RBI spent more on transporting his goods back to his home from Mumbai to Chicago than the total salary it paid him for his entire tenure. The RBI reportedly paid Rs 71 lakhs for transporting his household goods, more than what they paid him as salary for the entire three years.

Reportedly, when Raghuram Rajan left the office in September 2016, his salary was close to Rs 2.09 lakhs per month, which amounts to Rs 25 lakhs per annum. In an article published on Moneycontrol in July 2022, the current salary of the incumbent RBI governor Shaktikanta Das was Rs 2.5 lakhs per month, or Rs 30 lakhs per annum. The progression in salary for the RBI governor is in line with the remuneration at the time when Rajan left the office in 2016.

Raghu Ram Rajan steps out to defend Congress MP linked to 500 cr Income Tax raid

It is noteworthy to mention that Rajan has often hit the headlines with his controversial remarks and statements. Recently, in an interview published by The Red Mike on 12th December, former Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Dr Raghuram Rajan, gave a bizarre “context” to the unaccounted cash recovered from Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu. Dr Rajan claimed that the opposition parties are “forced” to use illicit money because electoral bonds provide an unequal playing field favouring the ruling party.

In his question, Sanket Upadhyay asked Dr Rajan about his views on electoral bonds, citing the statement given by former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg at Idea Exchange. Garg thoroughly explained why electoral bonds were introduced and what the ill effects of removing them from the system would be. Sanket asked Dr Rajan about his views on the statement where Garg said that if electoral bonds are removed, it will be cash on the streets yearly in the political process.

Dr Rajan asserted electoral bonds are an utterly non-transparent way of financing. Parties receive funds, and what they get is not known to anyone. In case an industrialist gives 1,000 crores to a party, the public can never know. He further called it a “bad way of financing elections” as the only people who know who donated what to the State Bank of India. He claimed that in India, it is hard to maintain secrets, and the ruling party can find the information of the business houses that donated to the opposition parties.
