Two cases of Hindu women being trapped, tortured and forced to convert to Islam emerge from UP and MP, both victims raped as well: Details

While the left-driven ecosystem continues to term the recently released movie ‘The Kerala Story’ as propaganda based on false narratives, similar cases have been reported from the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh recently.

One of the cases is said to have taken place in the Etmaduddaula region of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The saga began when one of the friends of the victim introduced her to her relative named Armaan. The accused Armaan is a resident of Kishannagar, Firozabad. The victim and Armaan began talking over the phone and soon became close.

Somehow, the mother of the victim woman came to know about her association with Armaan after which she opposed the duo’s relationship. She also reprimanded and beat the woman. However, the victim eloped from her home and got married to Armaan. Based on the complaint of the mother, the Police recovered the couple but set them free after the victim woman confirmed that they were in love and that she was an adult to take her own decisions.

Later, Armaan trapped the Hindu woman in a rented apartment for around 4 months during which he raped her and allowed several of his male friends to rape her. The accused had rented the apartment saying that he and his wife were Hindu and also married. Armaan assaulted her and also beat her. Reports mention that the victim woman had slit her wrist intending to end her life. She was tortured and pressured to satisfy the sexual needs of the accused and his friends.

The incident however came to the fore after the landlord (owner of the apartment rented by the accused) informed the Hindu Jagran Manch members about the couple. The landlord stated that the duo were staying as Hindus and the accused was constantly torturing the woman. Meanwhile, the family members of the victim had filed a missing persons report as she was not in contact for around 4 months.

The members of the Hindu Jagran Manch then informed the police who arrested the accused and rescued the victim woman. Vimla Vashishth of the Hindu Jagran Manch said that this is a case of Love Jihad and that the story is similar to the recently released movie named ‘The Kerala Story’. The Hindu Jagran Manch has demanded strict action against the accused.

The mother of the victim woman stated that her daughter was studying B Pharma and was very consciously trapped by the accused. She said that she had opposed the duo’s relationship and also beat her but the accused took advantage of the ruined relationship between us and tortured her and allowed his friends to rape her.

The victim woman also confirmed that she was introduced to Armaan by one of her friends. She also said that she was scared to talk to Armaan initially as her elder sister was cheated on and trapped similarly. She said that her sister was also raped and was forced to end her life.

CO City Kamlesh Kumar confirmed the incident and said that the victim woman is now staying with her mother and the accused has been arrested by the police. “The Police have registered a case based on the complaint of the victim woman and investigations are underway,” Kumar said.

Similar love jihad tale reported from Madhya Pradesh

Notably, a similar case has been reported from the state of Madhya Pradesh where a Hindu woman was trapped by a Muslim man who hid his religious identity. The accused man was introduced to the victim via one of the Muslim friends of the victim. The accused and the victim became close and developed sexual relations. When the woman asked for marriage, the accused revealed his religious identity and forced her to convert her religion to Islam. Local reports also state that the victim was tortured and assaulted by the accused.

The victim woman was working at the hospital and the accused, identified as Aman Shah, was also working at the same hospital. Aman Shah had changed his name to Aman Valmiki to trap the Hindu girl. The incident was reported from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

‘The Kerala Story’

It is pertinent to note that the recently released movie named ‘The Kerala Story’ has been declared as tax-free in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. However, reports mention that the Madhya Pradesh government has withdrawn its decision to give tax-free status to the movie in the state.

The multilingual project, featuring Adah Sharma and written and directed by Sudipto Sen, has garnered a lot of attention since its release. Liberals and the opposition particularly the Left and the Congress have labeled it as a propaganda piece and demanded a ban on its screening.

The movie revolves around Shalini Unnikrishnan, played by Adah Sharma, an innocent Hindu woman from Kerala, who is brainwashed by her Muslim friend and gets converted to Islam and marries a Muslim man. The lead actress soon realises that she has been trapped in a huge terrorist web after she is raped, separated from her only child, and then forced to serve as a sex slave.

As Pakistan descends into chaos, the failed country loses its mind, claims violence post Imran Khan arrest created by BJP, RSS: What Atta Tarar said

As protests, violence and chaos have engulfed Pakistan, the Pakistani government has invoked BJP-RSS. Pakistan’s Atta Tarar went on a bizarre rant as he said that the people who are protesting against the arrest of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan were sent by India’s Bhartiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to cause unrest in the country.

Atta Tarar, the special assistant to Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif said that “Those who are doing vandalism were deployed by the BJP and the RSS from India. These handfuls of people have links to the BJP and the RSS. After yesterday’s incident, there were celebrations across India. This was celebrated by the BJP and the RSS. “In India, sweets were distributed,” he alleged, adding, “Kal jo kuch hua, RSS ke kehne pe hua (whatever happened yesterday was on the orders of the RSS).”

“They (India) have been trying to reach the core commanders of Pakistan Army but could not do so, this time they deployed the groups of ‘launde lafaade’ who have no work to do,” Tarar claimed.

Tarar further claimed that there was an insurgency in Pakistan that was carried out by a minority wing of RSS which operates in Pakistan.

Massive protests and violence erupt after Imran Khan was detained in Pakistan

Following Imran Khan’s detention in Islamabad on Tuesday, there were several large-scale and violent demonstrations all around Pakistan. The leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was detained as he entered the grounds of the Islamabad High Court to attend the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Pakistan Rangers, a government paramilitary law enforcement organization, took him into custody. Videos indicated that the Rangers smashed off the glass windows to enter the room after PTI employees refused to unlock the door.

Khan has been detained in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case, in which he and his wife Bushra Bibi are charged with forcibly buying land from a business tycoon. According to a report, they are under investigation by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly collecting Rs 5 billion and hundreds of kanals (of land) from Bahria Town [a real estate corporation located in Islamabad] in return for the company’s defense in a money laundering case.

Even as the protests against Imran Khan’s arrest continue, Pakistan’s former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been arrested on Thursday by the Islamabad Police.

After Exit Polls show Congress edge in Karnataka, DK Shivakumar insinuates that people of UP are ‘fools’, BJP spokie lashes out: Here is what happened

On Wednesday, May 10, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar insinuated that the people of Uttar Pradesh and other parts of North India are “fools” as they voted Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to power. DK Shivakumar made these remarks during an India Today show discussing the exit polls which predicted 122-140 seats for the Congress party and 62-80 for the BJP.

Rahul Kanwal questioned if DK Shivakumar was genuinely concerned or shaken when the BJP did a last week campaigning and the “Bajrang Dal versus Bajrang Bali moment came”. Kanwal asked this question in the backdrop of the Congress manifesto wherein it promised to ban Bajrang Dal, however, the move was met with severe backlash and Congress leaders like Veerappa Moily had to do damage control.

Reacting to the question if he was for a moment shaken after the Bajrang Dal row, DK Shivakumar said, “They (BJP) picked up that issue, the media picked it up, but that is not the issue. The issue is a government with governance, the issue is price rise, that is the local issue, you see Karnataka is not like, you can not fool people here like UP and other parts of North India.

Taking strong objection to this, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla who was also present on the show, said, “His (DK Shivakumar) comment on the people of UP that they are fools is extremely unwholesome. I want to officially put a point on that the people of UP are not fools because they voted for the BJP.”

Poonawalla also pointed out that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is elected from Uttar Pradesh. “I don’t know if Sonia Gandhi is watching this because she is elected from UP,” the BJP spokesperson said.

“DK Shivkumar of Congress on a show with me labels people of UP, North India as “fools” as they voted BJP I took strong objection & asked if Sonia Gandhi who herself is elected from UP agrees This is despicable arrogance on display! Rahul Gandhi has also abused & insulted North Indians earlier, Poonawalla tweeted.

It is notable that the exit polls have predicted a hung assembly in the state, with a close fight between the BJP and Congress to emerge as the political party with the highest number of seats in the polls.

Pakistan: Former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi arrested in Islamabad as crackdown on Imran Khan’s party continues

0

Former Pakistan Foreign Minister, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi was on Thursday arrested by the Islamabad police and transferred to an unknown location.

“Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been arrested by the Islamabad Police and transferred to an unknown location,” the party tweeted on Thursday.

The PTI leader was taken into custody from the Gilgit-Baltistan House in Islamabad after a failed attempt by the police on Wednesday afternoon, according to Pakistan based The Express Tribune newspaper.

Qureshi is wanted by the police in cases of riots and arsons in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Before his arrest, Qureshi called upon PTI workers to keep up their struggle for true freedom in the country.

In a message, he said that he had no regrets as he had done nothing wrong. The PTI leader expressed grief and shock over the 50 casualties in the recent violent protest that erupted after the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan.

He noted that a worthwhile cause requires sacrifices and the PTI and its workers will continue their work for such a worthy cause. He asked PTI workers to keep up their struggle for real freedom and to remain on their marks in this great cause until Imran Khan is freed.

Qureshi emphasised that the allegation of the Corps Commander Lahore incident is a wrong charge against him and Imran Khan, calling upon party activists to remain calm and stick to their cause.

The PTI leader also recorded a statement when a police contingent arrived at his place, saying that PTI is a movement for real freedom and everyone has contributed to it.

“All organisations, ticket holders, and office-holders are requested not to lose heart and stay put in the field. We have not taken the law into our hands before and we will not do so in the future as well,” he advised party cadres.

According to The Express Tribune, Qureshi highlighted his message by reminding PTI workers that he defended Pakistan’s interests as a foreign minister at every forum. He added that he had been in practical politics for 40 years and was sure the PTI’s struggle would reach its destination.

Meanwhile, PTI Senior Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry was arrested outside the Supreme Court (SC) in Islamabad on Wednesday, Geo News reported.

The development comes amid the ongoing crackdown on the PTI leaders and workers.

Fawad Chaudhry was present inside the Pakistan Supreme Court since 11 am (local time) in a bid to evade arrest, as per the news report. Chaudhry was arrested after he came out of the apex court premises. The Islamabad police arrested Chaudhry under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Ordinance (MPO) and shifted him to the Secretariat Police Station.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf tweeted, “SVP @fawadchaudhry has been arrested outside Supreme Court despite having protective bail from IHC till 12th May. Law of the jungle is ruling in Pakistan.”

Speaking to reporters before his arrest, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the lawyers’ community had become weak as there was infighting among them. He said, “Never has a petitioner been arrested in such a manner,” Geo News reported. He further said that Islamabad High Court had a day earlier, approved his pre-arrest bail which he had shown to Islamabad police earlier in the day.

Chaudhry said Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest has resulted in a division in the country, as per the Geo News report. He said that space should be given to political opponents to pave the way for dialogue.

Before Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested PTI Secretary General Asad Umar from the premises of the Islamabad High Court.

On Tuesday, PTI chairman Khan was arrested in a graft case, and presented before the accountability court at the Police Lines Headquarters. The accountability bureau will investigate the former premier at the Police Lines. Protests have erupted in Pakistan after Imran Khan’s arrest. The protests have led to widespread destruction of properties.

‘Are you a dog’? ‘Animal activist’ Yogita Bhayana gate crashes Vijay Goel’s seminar on stray dog menace, gets into a brawl with another woman: WATCH

On May 10, a group of animal ‘activists’ gate-crashed former union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Goel’s seminar on the menace of stray dogs at Constitution Club to mark their protest. Two women, one of which was animal activist Yogita Bhayana, exchanged slaps. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, including the “slap-gate”. In the video, when Bhayana and other activists were being forced out of the meeting by the attendees and the police, she slapped a woman and got slapped in return.

Bhayana claimed the organisers of the seminar misbehaved with them. She said, “We wanted to speak our minds. Rather than giving us a platform, they started thrashing us.” She further claimed the organisers used a photograph of a ‘ferocious dog’ across the city in promotional posters for the seminar. She further claimed that the seminar aimed to have a discussion on the lines of an ‘anti-stray dogs’ drive.

Goel accused ‘animal lovers’ of disrupting the seminar

On the other hand, BJP leader Vijay Goel accused the group of animal lovers of disrupting the seminar. He said that the seminar was held to discuss possible solutions to the menace of stray dogs amid the increasing incidents of people getting bitten by stray dogs.

He added that the Constitution Club officials informed him that BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, who is “famous” for her animal activism, booked the Deputy Speaker’s Hall at the same time Goel booked the Speaker’s Hall for the seminar.

Goel accused people attending Gandhi’s event of forcing their way into his seminar and creating a ruckus. He said, “One woman climbed on the stage and spoke directly on the mike. There was uproar in the whole meeting. The police had to intervene to handle the situation.” He added, “We are animal lovers; we are not anti-animal. This campaign launched by us should not be considered anti-animal.”

Goel said out of approximately 6.4 stray dogs nationwide, six lakhs are in Delhi alone. He said, “Thirty-six per cent of dog bites in the world occur in Delhi. And in Delhi alone, in 6 months, more than 1 lakh dog bite cases are coming only in government hospitals. We all agree on one thing that the number of stray dogs should not increase. There is only one solution for this that these dogs should be sterilised as much as possible.”

In a video statement, Goel said, “There was an RWA meeting at the Constitution Club to discuss the menace of stray dogs. RWA representatives from around the city came to participate. We discussed possible solutions and agreed upon them too. However, you will be amazed to know that parallel to the seminar; another event was organised in the name of Maneka Gandhi. I am not sure if Menaka Gandhi was involved in it or not. They gate-crashed out meeting and created a ruckus.”

In the video statement, there was a clip where Bhayana was heard saying, “Are you a dog? You have used a photograph of a dog [in the poster]. This meeting is not going to happen.” The other activists were heard shaming Goel for organising the meeting while he kept requesting them to calm down with folded hands.

“If you see the meeting video, you will notice they kept saying that they would not allow the meeting to occur. We told them, “We are dog lovers. We are animal lovers. We all are trying to find a solution for the incidents of dog biting lakhs of people. You must know that people are anxious because of the stray dog menace. They have started walking with sticks in their hands.”

He added, “Before people do not see dogs with hate and respect them, it is essential that we take some steps. But they wanted to create a ruckus, and they did. Those who created a ruckus were eventually thrown out of the seminar, and the meeting continued.” He further vouched for sterilisation drives, a new dog adoption policy and the formation of a committee to oversee possible amendments to the current laws. He also called for reducing the price of anti-rabies injections.

Stray dog menace

The menace of stray dogs has increased exponentially over the years. Countless incidents have occurred where children, women and the elderly reportedly got bitten or even mauled to death by stray dogs. While animal lovers and courts have sided with the stray dogs, there has been uproar among the general public over the spike in such incidents. Dog lovers and animal activists often get into heated arguments with people over feeding stray dogs in and around the city, especially in gated societies.

In April 2023, stray dogs reportedly snatched an infant from the cradle and killed her in Ahmedabad. Again in the same month, a 9-year-old boy was reportedly attacked by stray dogs while he was going to a mosque in Karnataka. He was rescued by a police officer and hospitalised. A week before these two incidents, a 65-year-old man identified as Safdar Ali was mauled to death by dogs on the AMU campus. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media.

Biden family received over $10 million from foreign nationals when he was VP, tried to conceal source of funds: House Oversight Committee

On 10th May 2023, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee in the USA revealed that the Biden family, accompanied by their business associates, created more than 20 companies and received over $10 million from foreign nationals. It is noteworthy that during this period, Joe Biden served as the vice president, which adds further significance to these financial transactions and raises questions about potential influence-peddling.

Ahead of his press conference on Wednesday, Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., shared a memo containing fresh findings from his investigation into what he describes as the Biden family’s “influence peddling and business schemes.” According to the memo, there is evidence suggesting that the Biden family took measures to “conceal the source and total amount received from the foreign companies.”

As part of its investigation, the committee has issued subpoenas to four banks and has obtained “thousands of records” in response. The subpoenas were carefully crafted to target specific individuals and companies that were involved in business activities with Biden family members and their business associates, as stated in the memo.

According to the memo, members of the Biden family and their business associates established a complex network of over 20 companies, with a majority of them being limited liability companies that were formed during Joe Biden’s vice presidency. The committee noted that the majority of those companies were established in Delaware and Washington, D.C., with the assistance of Hunter Biden’s business partners, namely Rob Walker and James Gilliar.

The memo stated, “Bank records show the Biden family, their business associates, and their companies received over $10 million from foreign nationals’ companies. The committee identified payments to Biden family members from foreign companies while Joe Biden served as Vice President and after he left public office.”

It added, “The Biden family used business associates’ companies to receive millions of dollars from foreign companies and received incremental payments over time to different bank accounts.”

The memo said, “In some instances, Biden associates would receive significant deposits from foreign sources into their bank accounts and then transfer smaller, incremental payments to Biden bank accounts. These complicated and seemingly unnecessary financial transactions appear to be a concerted effort to conceal the source and total amount received from foreign companies. Chinese nationals and companies with significant ties to Chinese intelligence and the Chinese Communist Party hid the source of the funds by layering domestic limited liability companies.”

The committee said, “We are investigating the opaque corporate structure of particular Biden-affiliated companies, those companies’ complicated connections with each other, whether these companies maintained books and records, and why certain foreign nationals sought to partner with and engage in businesses with specific Biden family members and their companies.”

According to the Committee, there are indications suggesting that the Biden family may have received funds from foreign nationals in an attempt to influence U.S. policy. As an example, the committee uncovered information revealing that Hunter Biden, through his associate Rob Walker, received over $1 million from a foreign company allegedly under the control of Gabriel Popoviciu, who is currently facing criminal investigation and prosecution for corruption in Romania. Notably, Vice President Biden had meetings with Romanian leaders in 2014 and 2015 to discuss issues related to corruption in the country.

The memo said, “The committee is concerned about the Biden family’s pattern of courting business in regions of the world in which the then Vice President had an outsize role and influenced U.S. policy. The Biden family and associates’ activities in Romania bear clear indicator of a scheme to peddle influence from 2015-2017.”

The committee’s findings revealed that apart from Hunter Biden, James Gilliar, and Rob Walker, there were other individuals within the Biden family, including James Biden, Hallie Biden, and additional members, who received foreign payments. The memo included a breakdown of the transactions from Chinese and Romanian nationals and companies.

Regarding China, the memo specifically highlights two individuals, Ye Jianming and Gongwen Dong, and raises concerns about their involvement in a Chinese business venture connected to Hunter Biden. The memo cautions that this particular joint venture with the Chinese energy company CEFC presents potential threats to American national security.

According to the memo, Ye Jianming was identified as having “close connections to the upper echelons of the Chinese Communist Party” and was reportedly serving as the deputy secretary-general for an international outreach division of the People’s Liberation Army. It is worth noting that Ye was subsequently detained by the Chinese Communist Party in 2018.

The memo said, “The Bidens received millions of dollars from their Chinese partnership. When Ye was detained by the Chinese, Hunter Biden then attempted to distance himself from the relationship by claiming he had never been paid by CEFC. This was false.” The memo reveals that Hunter Biden’s company, Hudson West V, received a wire transfer of $24 million from Ye Jianming. Subsequently, CEFC, the Chinese energy company, transferred $100,000 to Hunter Biden’s Owasco, P.C.

China finally has a rival in India as the World’s factory floor: Report

0

Western companies are desperately looking for a backup to China as the world’s factory floor, a strategy widely termed “China plus one.”

India is making a concerted push to be the plus one. Only India has a labour force and an internal market comparable in size to China’s. India’s population may be the world’s largest, according to the United Nations, Wall Street Journal reported.

Western governments see democratic India as a natural partner, and the Indian government has pushed to make the business environment more friendly than in the past.

It scored a coup with the decision by Apple to significantly expand iPhone production in India, including expediting the manufacturing of its most advanced model. Signs that India is changing are visible in the sprawling industrial parks in Sriperumbudur, a city in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, WSJ reported.

Foreign manufacturers here have long churned out cars and appliances for the Indian market. They’re now being joined by multinational corporations making goods from solar panels and wind turbines to toys and footwear, all looking for an alternative to China.

In 2021 Denmark’s Vestas, one of the world’s largest wind-turbine manufacturers, built two new factories in Sriperumbudur. Its six assembly lines now assemble hub cells, power trains and other components, stacked high in a storage yard to be shipped across the world, WSJ reported.

Forecasts that India would soon become the second-largest market for turbines sparked Vestas’s expansion. But it was also a conscious effort to diversify away from China, which hosted the bulk of its regional production, especially after repeated lockdowns under Beijing’s zero-Covid policy, said Charles McCall, who oversaw the expansion as senior director of Vestas Assembly India.

“We don’t want all our eggs in one basket in China,” he said.

Some of Vestas’s suppliers have joined it. American contract manufacturer TPI Composites moulds 260-foot-long turbine blades that regularly draw attention as they are shuttled along surrounding highways. It has expanded significantly in India even as it reduces operations in China.

Eventually, 85 per cent of Vestas’s suppliers will be in India, said McCall, who recently left the company.

China still towers over every other country in global manufacturing, a position it cemented when multinationals flooded in after it joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001. But a growing list of factors has prompted companies to search for a backup. First, there were rising labour costs in China and pressure from the Chinese government to transfer technology to Chinese competitors.

Then there were President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports in 2018, Covid lockdowns from 2020 through last year, and now a push by Western governments to decouple their economies from China.

Many countries are competing to be the “plus one,” with Vietnam, Mexico, Thailand and Malaysia in particular contention. India must still overcome entrenched problems that have kept it a bit player in global supply chains. Its labour force remains mostly poor and unskilled, infrastructure is underdeveloped and the business climate, including regulations, can be burdensome.

Manufacturing remains small relative to the size of India’s economy. Nonetheless, after decades of disappointment, it is making progress. Its manufactured exports were barely a tenth of China’s in 2021, but they exceeded all other emerging markets except Mexico’s and Vietnam’s, according to World Bank data.

The biggest gains have been in electronics, where exports have tripled since 2018 to USD 23 billion in the year through March. India has gone from making 9 per cent of the world’s smartphone handsets in 2016 to a projected 19 per cent this year, according to Counterpoint Technology Market Research.

Foreign direct investment into India averaged USD 42 billion annually from 2020 to 2022, a doubling in under a decade, according to central-bank figures.

Since China declared a “no limits” friendship with Russia on the eve of the invasion of Ukraine last year, the US and its allies have stepped up efforts to reduce dependence on China. Through reducing dependence on China. Through “friend-shoring,” the US is “strengthening integration with our many trusted trading partners- including India,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on a visit there in February.

No company better embodies the bet on India as the next China than Apple. Over the past 15 years, the company built up a state-of-the-art supply chain almost entirely in China to make its laptops, iPhones and accessories. Its presence helped the entire manufacturing sector in China.

The California-based company has assembled low-end iPhone models in India since 2017 and began making its newest, flagship iPhone 14 here within weeks of its launch last year. J.P. Morgan estimates a quarter of all Apple iPhones will be made in India by 2025.

Indian officials hope Apple’s presence will spur others to come. “Very often you have anchor companies who set the trend,” Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said in an interview.

“We believe that this will send a strong signal…to other companies in Europe, America and Japan.” Apple has been pushing suppliers to diversify beyond China after many faced production disruptions during Covid lockdowns. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions have been growing between the US and China and between Beijing and Taiwan, where Foxconn Technology Group, Apple’s main manufacturer, is based.

Foxconn is set to expand production of iPhones at its existing plant near the Indian city of Chennai. It aims to boost iPhone production to around 20 million units annually by 2024 and roughly triple the number of workers to as many as 100,000, according to people familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

An Apple spokesman declined to comment. India has made progress in overcoming some barriers to business. In 2014 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled “Make in India,” an effort to boost manufacturing. India has digitized many government services and accelerated the construction of railroads, airports, container shipping ports, and electricity generation.

Piyush Goyal pointed to India’s rise on the World Bank’s ease of doing business rankings and the World Intellectual Property Organization’s global innovation index and a growing number of free trade pacts as evidence “we have now taken…integrating ourselves with other countries far more seriously.”

India introduced tax and customs rebates for exports in 2015 and overhauled them in 2021. The customs rebates were “the trigger point for the entire electronic industry,” said Sasikumar Gendham, managing director of Finland’s Salcomp, the world’s largest maker of smartphone chargers and supplier to Apple.

Since 2014, Salcomp’s Indian workforce has increased sixfold to 12,000 and it aims to hire 25,000 people in the next two years.

With 200 buses to transport workers and plans to build dormitories for 15,000 people, the company’s campus is massive by Indian standards, though not yet by Chinese standards. The facility churns out yet by Chinese standards. The facility churns out about 100 million units every year, compared with its China facility which produces about 180 million units.

For all this progress, it isn’t clear it’s enough to set India apart. Jules Shih, a Chennai-based director of Taiwan’s trade promotion agency, TAITRA, said India has become an easier place to do business, but in many respects still lags behind other countries.

It can take longer to get land and approvals to set up a factory in India and getting visas for expatriate technicians, managers and engineers is time-consuming, Shih said.

“We feel they don’t have a united goal integrated across agencies to make Make in India happen faster,” he said.

In March 2020, India introduced “production-linked incentives” that directly subsidize targeted products, starting with mobile phones and components, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Some companies have found the process to claim production-linked incentives to be burdensome. South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics has been in discussions with authorities over the amount of the rebate. A Samsung India spokesman said the company is committed to being a partner of India and working to make the plan a success.

Labour shortages are emerging in India’s manufacturing hubs, local officials and businesses say. That’s because, unlike in China, many workers are reluctant to relocate long distances in search of work. Trade unions are more potent in India than in China. Work Trade unions are more vital in India than in China.

China encouraged foreign companies to locate supply chains in special economic zones with reduced tariffs on imported components and machinery. By contrast, “Make in India” sought to replace imports with domestically manufactured products by raising import tariffs.

Those tariffs discourage industries that import many components. “India is protectionist in precisely those sectors, goods manufacturing, where the China+1 opportunity arises,” Viral Acharya, an economist at New York University and former deputy governor of India’s central bank, wrote in a report for the Brookings Institution released in March.

In its annual review of India’s economy last December, the International Monetary Fund said its integration into global value chains has stalled.

Manufacturing’s share of Indian economic output has actually shrunk since Make in India was launched, to 14 per cent in 2021, far below that of Mexico, Vietnam and Bangladesh.

Arvind Subramanian, who was Modi’s chief economic adviser from 2014 to 2018, said for every company such as Apple that has embraced India,

several report bad experiences. Even Apple’s investment “wouldn’t have happened without the push from China,” he said.

Amazon.com closed some of its Indian ventures last fall. “We continue to develop and grow the local e-commerce ecosystem,” Amazon said in a statement. commerce ecosystem,” Amazon said in a statement. China’s experience suggests creating lots of

moderately paid jobs for less-educated rural workers, especially women, requires manufacturing.

In Tamil Nadu, a homegrown unicorn, Ola Electric, embodies those hopes. India is the world’s largest market for two-wheeled motorcycles and scooters, and Ola has made a splash with its brightly painted scooters catering to the demand for electric vehicles.

New registrations for electric two-wheelers have grown more than tenfold over the past two years to 684,273 in the latest financial year that ended March 31, according to the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, a New Delhi-based think tank.

Ola is making half a million electric scooters a year from its new plant. It plans to quadruple factory floor space, including two acres reserved for an indoor forest. The company says it will start making electric cars in early 2024.

The airy plant has an almost all-female workforce, from security guards to workers wielding spray guns of paint, to those who test-ride the final product.

“Initially, their parents were hesitant to let them work in factories,” said Jayaraman G, Ola’s associate director of corporate affairs.

“No more. In the last year, they saw how the situation changed financially-from paying for the education of their siblings to helping build two- or three-room apartments. It’s a proud moment for their families.”

Dalit journalist says sorry to BBC’s Brahmin journalist for falsely accusing her of caste bias, case closed after mutual agreement

On Tuesday, May 9, Dalit ‘activist’ and YouTuber Ved Prakash published a Facebook post in which he issued an apology to a ‘Brahmin’ editor at BBC India for falsely accusing her of sacking a Dalit journalist from her job due to her caste. The ‘activist’ who has over 14 lakh subscribers on his YouTube channel has apologized to the Brahmin journalist to get relief from a case filed by BBC’s India Head Rupa Jha.

According to the apology issued by Ved Prakash on Facebook on May 9, the matter dates four years back when a Dalit woman named Meena Kotwal and her husband Raja Pandey contacted Ved Prakash and said that Meena Kotwal worked at BBC, however, she claimed that she faced injustice there and was expelled from her job as she is Dalit.

Following this, as narrated by Ved Prakash, being a Dalit activist and journalist, he published a news post about the matter wherein he held Rupa Jha, the Indian language head of BBC, responsible for the alleged caste discrimination faced by Meena Kotwal. He added that the language of the news he published was not “appropriate” and people hurled abuses in reaction to the said post.

BBC’s Rupa Jha then filed a case at Delhi’s Barakhamba Police Station. During the investigation, the police asked Ved Prakash to call Meena Kotwal to furnish evidence proving the claim that she was sacked from her post at BBC due to caste discrimination. Kotwal and her husband, however, refused to provide any evidence backing their claim.

“Later on, I got to know that Meena Kotwal had a one-year contract only at BBC. She was relieved from her post as the contract ended,” Ved Prakash wrote in his Facebook post.

He added that Kotwal and her husband even refused to become his guarantor for his bail. For the last four years, the case proceedings continued, however, on May 9, 2023, Ved Prakash and Rupa Jha mutually decided to close the case.

“Due to the post I published on the basis of the false information provided by Meena Kotwal and her husband Raja Pandey as well as the abusive response to it has caused hurt to Rupa Jha and I apologise for the same and express regret,” Ved Prakash added.

He also shared two pictures, one with Meena Kotwal and the other with Rupa Jha. It is notable that Meena Kotwal founded an online portal named ‘The Mooknayak’ and has worked with leftist propaganda portals The Wire and The Print.

He thanked Dalit activist and advocate Sujit Samrat for representing him in the court free of charge, and also thanked one Prem Prakash Chaudhary for becoming his guarantor for bail.
