Are you working for India or China?: Read Maneka Gandhi’s scathing response to TikTok for refusing to delete videos of animal cruelty

On Friday, BJP MP from Sultanpur and an animal activist, Maneka Gandhi, took to Twitter to slam the Head of TikTok for refusing to delete videos depicting animal cruelty and handing over details of such video creators to the concerned authorities.

Slamming the Chinese video sharing social media service for asking her NGO to appeal to people against posting such violent content, Maneka Gandhi wrote, “We as an NGO will certainly not take part in this message on TikTok since you have no intention of following Government of India orders.”

She had asked the Head of TikTok India to penalise people involved in sharing videos of ‘gratuitous violence’, besides suspending their accounts permanently. Gandhi had also directed him to reveal the names and addresses of such users to the law enforcement authorities so that appropriate action can be taken against them.

Citing examples of two disturbing videos featuring animal abuse that were not removed by TikTok, she wrote, “You need to have more respect for the laws of the country you work in and for your own guidelines. I am not interested in your sanctimonious lies.” Maneka Gandhi was taken aback when the Head of the company overlooking the app’s Indian operations suggested her to appeal to people to refrain from doing so instead of taking action against such miscreants.

Gandhi said that in the past 3 months, she had received over 100 videos depicting animal cruelty but TikTok failed to remove the contentious videos, contrary to their company policies. She also accused the Chinese app of increasing its users at the expense of violence against women, children, and animals, besides spreading fake news. “Are you working for India or China? This is not acceptable. I want a much better and firmer commitment immediately and I need to see it in action,” Maneka Gandhi concluded.

Maneka Gandhi also lashed out at TikTok giving her the usual trope about their community guidelines being strict and how they are formed to keep their users safe. She said that she was not interested in their sanctimonious lies and expected concrete action in tune with the laws of India.

Videos depicting Animal Abuse on TikTok

In a disturbing video uploaded by a user named Gajendra Rathor, two children can be seen lifting a dog on all fours before dumping it in a pond. The poor animal has its mouth, and limbs tied in ropes, making it impossible for it to swim or escape. The duo then mercilessly pelts stone at the animal. The video creator can be heard laughing in the background while saying, “The dog has lived for 4 years. It is now time to bid it goodbye.”

In another instance of horrific animal abuse, a video creator (@thangaraj2317) can be seen tying a cat by its neck to the roof of the house. Twitter user Sunny Mehra who pointed out the disturbing content questioned TikTok over its inaction against animal abuse, vulgarity, child abuse, besides other toxic things.

Delhi riots: Arrested Jamia student Asif Tanha charged with UAPA, sent on further police remand

Arrested in the Delhi riots case, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has booked the Jamia Millia Islamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for purportedly being a part of a larger conspiracy behind the February riots in northeast Delhi.

The development comes days after the Delhi Police’s crime branch arrested the SIO member and Jamia student in connection with the violence that erupted in the national capital during the anti-CAA protests in December last year. He is a resident of Shaheen Bagh.

A Delhi court on Wednesday sent the Jamia Millia student on a seven days remand in a case related to the communal flare-up that erupted in northeast Delhi in February during protests against the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act. The police argued in the court that Tanha’s custody was required to uncover the larger conspiracy and to confront him with the electronic data collected during the investigation.

Tanha, a member of the Students Islamic Organisation and a part of Jamia Coordination Committee which led the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, was arrested by the police on 17 May and was booked under the UAPA on the charges of being involved in the bigger conspiracy of engineering Delhi riots, a senior police official said.

Besides Tanha, others who are arrested in the case and are slapped with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) comprise- Jamia Coordination Committee members Safoora Zagar, Meera Haider, President of Jamia Alumni Association Shifa-Ur-Rehman, suspended AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain.

Arrests made in anti-CAA Riots case

Safoora Zargar, a member of the Jamia Coordination Committee, was arrested in connection with her alleged involvement in the anti-CAA riots. Her arrest has led to a barrage of propaganda accusing the Delhi Police of ‘anti-Muslim’ bias. The Delhi Police had recently slammed far-left propagandists at The Wire for making such dubious allegations.

Earlier, Meeran Haider, also a member of the Jamia Coordination Committee, was arrested by Delhi Police. He was arrested on the 2nd of April in connection with rioting and criminal conspiracy pertaining to anti-Hindu riots in north-east Delhi that have claimed the lives of 53 people and left over 400 injured. Meeran Haider is also the president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal youth wing’s Delhi unit.

India-Nepal border: Communist group tries to march to Lipulekh to plant a Nepali flag, stopped by Nepali villagers

Days before Nepal Prime Minister KP Oli’s controversial remarks claiming Indian regions of Lipulekh and Kalapani as parts of Nepal, several politically motivated communist Nepalis had reportedly marched towards Lipulekh with the aim of hoisting Nepal’s flag there. However, they were met with stiff resistance from the local Nepali residents who sabotaged their plans of planting a Nepali flag in the Indian region.

As per a report in News 18, on 18 May, supporters of Netra Chand Viplav Party of Nepal took out a march for hoisting Nepal’s flag in Lipulekh. The intention behind unfurling the flag in an Indian territory was to assert that Lipulekh belonged to Nepal. However, the Nepali locals from the bordering villages did not allow the communist to carry out their agenda. Chasing out the communist protesters, the locals claimed that they would not let the personal interest of some to affect the relationship with India, an ally with whom they share a relationship of bread and butter.

When the team of communist protesters reached Dumling village, the residents of the village reportedly advised them to go back. But, the group remained stubborn in its resolve of unfurling Nepal’s flag in Lipulekh, due to which clashes broke out between the villagers and the communist protesters. Eventually, all the members of the party were forced to submit to villagers’ insistence and return. The leader of the party, Jeevan Bisht, accused the villagers of attacking them, claiming that the locals attacked the members of his party with sticks.

The people of Dumling village believe that the friendly relations between India and Nepal existed for centuries and visits like the one made by the protesters could have caused bitterness in the relationship and vitiated the camaraderie shared between the Indians and Nepalis. They suspected that such brinkmanship would have an adverse impact on the lives and livelihoods of the people living along the border and therefore they halted the Nepali protesters from continuing their march towards the Indian region of Lipulekh.

Nepali PM KP Oli echoes China in making expansionist claims against India

Perhaps acting at the behest of China, the communist government in Nepal threw open a can of worms when it made claims on the Indian territories of Lipulekh and Kalapani as parts of Nepal. In a new map released by Nepal, it showed the aforementioned regions under the jurisdiction of Nepal.

KP Oli also made expansionist claims in a speech in the parliament where he asserted that Nepal would “bring back at any cost” the Indian territories of Kalapani-Limpiyadhura-Lipulekh area. Nepal’s newfound belligerence against India partly stems from Beijing, which considers New Delhi as a threat to its global ambitions. Many attribute Nepal’s bellicosity against India to China who is rapidly expanding its footprint in the communist-ruled Kathmandu.

It is also worth noting that Nepal’s defiance against India has come 10 days after the Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a link road on the Kailash Mansarovar route in Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, leading to Lipulekh.

The foreign ministry of Nepal had issued a press release voicing their protest against the move, claiming the link road passed through Nepali territory. However, India rejected the claims, saying “the link road lies completely within the territory of India”.

Round 2: Leftists and Naxal sympathisers start casting doubts on the excavation at Ram Janmabhoomi temple site, call it “of little use”

The discovery of remains of Hindu stone sculptures like a Shivling, broken-idols of Hindu deities, and carved pillars at the construction site of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, has now caused massive heartburn to leftist sand Naxal sympathisers, who are now casting doubts over the recent excavations while attempting to downplay the historical importance attached to the recent findings.

A day after various remains of a temple was unearthed from Ram Mandir site at Ayodhya, Nandini Sundar, a known Naxal sympathiser, took to Twitter to peddle a new narrative to discredit the findings at the Ram Janmabhoomi site.

According to Nandini Sundar, who is the wife of The Wire’s editor Siddharth Varadarajan, the excavations carried out under the site was bound to have low evidentiary value as there were no details regarding the strata at where the idols were found.

Claiming that the excavations had little value, the ultra-left wing professor claimed that the pillars, the remains of the temple were ‘miraculously’ unearthed while carrying out land levelling activities at the site.

Falling for similar propaganda, self-proclaimed experts and leftists joined Nandini Sundar in propagating a new narrative against the construction of Ram Mandir by undermining the new archaeological findings at the historic site.

Anjali Mody, who claims to be a journalist, claimed that there was a huge difference between an actual excavation and an excavation for a foundation to state that earthmovers were used to clear rubble after the demolition of Babri Masjid and 14 other temples, thus implying that the new findings had very little archaeological use.

According to Mody, the new findings is nothing but the rubbles of the Babri Masjid and the temples which were demolished earlier. The Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992, nearly 28 years ago.

Excavations of remains of Hindus temples at Ayodhya

During the excavation carried out for the construction works for the temple in the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, the remains of Hindu stone sculptures, including a Shivling, broken-idols of Hindu deities, and carved pillars of Indic design were found near the site on Wednesday.

According to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, as the work for levelling of land and removal of the gangway in Shri Ramjanmabhumi Complex was resumed on Wednesday after the coronavirus lockdown, the workers at the site unearthed the remains of pillars adorned with old Hindu carvings, likely of a temple during the excavation.

The objects included various archaeological artefacts and stone pillars with carvings of flowers, Kalash, Aamalak, etc, said Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust. During the excavation, a 5 feet Shivaling, 7 carved pillars of Black touchstone, 6 carved pillars of red sandstone and broken idols of Hindu gods were also found. The trust said that the work is still continuing at a slow pace due to the restrictions.

The findings had vindicated the presence of Hindu temples beneath the overground structures, which was a bone of contention for decades and was later resolved by the Supreme Court of the country. The earlier ASI findings had stated that there were remains of an ancient temple beneath the site where the Babri Masjid was erected.

In fact, the excavations done on Wednesday as part of a ground-levelling carried out by Ram Janmabhoomi trust as preparation for the construction of Ram temple itself. The recent work, however, however, is no part of an official excavation carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India.

With remains of temples, a Shivalinga and pillars are being found at the site, there have been growing demands across the spectrum to begin new scientific excavations not only at Ayodhya but also at various other places including Kashi and Mathura to unearth the truth behind the presence of Hindu temples beneath the over-laying Islamic structures.

Left historians, intelligentsia dismissed presence of temple beneath

For decades, the left-historians and the ‘liberal-secular’ intelligentsia had pushed false theories claiming that there was minimal evidence for a temple at the sacred site.

The likes of Marxist historians – Romila Thapar, DN Jha, Irfan Habib, backed by the ruling dispensation in the past, had set out to dismiss the presence of a Hindu temple beneath the controversial Babri Masjid.

KK Muhammad, former Regional Director(North) of Archaeological Survey of India, had also revealed that Left historians like Irfan Habib and Romila Thapar had thwarted an amicable settlement to the Babri Masjid issue. They had also stated before the media that no temple remains were found at the site.

ASI excavations

The former ASI Director had also stated in an interview with Time of India that there is enough archaeological proof of a grand temple below the Babri Mosque. The first excavation was carried out in the year 1976-77 under the eminent archaeologist BB Lal, who was the director-general of ASI from 1968-72.

Mohammad had divulged that during the process he saw 12 pillars of the mosque which were made from temple remains. However, these findings were not highlighted by BB Lal then as their excavation purpose was not to establish whether there was a temple or not but to examine the cultural sequence of the place.

The second excavation was carried out in 2003 under the supervision of archaeologists Hari Manjhi and BR Mani, as per the directions of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court.

During this time more than 90 pillar bases in 17 rows were exposed. This meant that the structure was imposing and large. This structure discovered was that of a temple below the Babri Mosque which dated back to the 12th century AD, confirmed Muhammed.

In the written message on Whatsapp an unidentified person called Yogi an enemy of a certain community and said that he would eliminate him with a bomb.

UP police lodged an FIR

Inspector of Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar police station, Dheeraj Kumar has now lodged an FIR against an unidentified person under Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) Section 505 (1)(b) for causing fear or alarm to the public to commit an offence against the state or against the public tranquillity, Section 506 for the threat to cause death and Section 507 for using anonymous communication for issuing a threat.

Additional Director General of UP-112, Asim Arun has also confirmed receiving a threat message against the Chief Minister on Whatsapp.

Earlier threats against CM Yogi Adityanath

On May 5 2020, the Uttar Pradesh Police had nabbed a Bihar constable named Tanveer Khan from Ghazipur after his contentious Facebook post on April 24, calling for the killing of the State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, went viral on social media.

Reportedly, there was a state of concern in the police department when it was discovered that the accused was a cop himself. The UP police nabbed Khan from Nalanda with the help of the Dipnagar police in the Nalanda district.

Facebook post of Tanveer Khan

Earlier, on his Facebook timeline, Tanveer Khan has written: “Azaans are not happening in the areas of Dildar Nagar and Kamsarobar, Yogi should be shot dead.

It is notable here that the UP government had clarified earlier that due to the coronavirus threats mass gatherings at Mosques have been prohibited but there are no restrictions on Azaan.

Congress leader DK Shivakumar wants an FIR to be registered against the cop who filed an FIR against Sonia Gandhi: Here are details

A day after an FIR was filed against Congress-interim president Sonia Gandhi, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar on Thursday wrote to Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa demanding the withdrawal of the case registered against Sonia Gandhi over tweets by the party on PM CARES Fund.

In his letter, the state Congress chief DK Shivakumar also sought suspension of the cop who registered the FIR in the matter. Shockingly, Shivkumar also demanded registration of an FIR against the cop for registering the complaint against Sonia Gandhi.

“We hereby demand your good self to withdraw the said FIR and to suspend the said police officer immediately. We also urge you to register an FIR against the said police officer for misusing the process of law in the interest of justice and equality,” DK Shivakumar said in the letter.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, state Home Minister, Director General of Police and Shivamogga Superintendent of Police, KPCC President DK Shivakumar said that the complainant has filed this complaint with a political motive on false information stating that Sonia Gandhi had tweeted stating that Prime Minister has been misusing the Prime Minister CARES Fund.

DK Shivakumar said that the tweets were “misinterpreted” by the BJP leadership and it instigated Praveen Kumar to file a complaint at Sagar police station against Sonia Gandhi “based on false information without examining its truthfulness”.

He also said that the registration of a case against Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi by police was a blatant misuse of the process of law with an intention to snub the right to healthy criticism.

FIR against Sonia Gandhi

An FIR was registered against Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga, Karnataka over Congress party’s tweet against PM-CARES Fund.

The FIR had identified the Congress interim president as the handler of the social media account. The complaint accused Sonia Gandhi of misleading people about PM-CARES Fund. The Congress party had shared a tweet on May 11 which gave wrong information about the fund.

The FIR was registered under Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Sonia Gandhi.

From lack of domestic manufacturers to becoming 2nd largest producer of PPE suits, India shows the way

On Thursday, the Union Textile Ministry said in an official statement that India had become the second-largest producer of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) body suits within 2 months. It further informed that the Government had procured such body coverall from ‘certified players’ in order to ensure the maintenance of both quality and quantity.

Thus, India is now only behind China in the manufacture of PPE body overalls which are essential for protecting frontline workers from contracting the Wuhan Coronavirus. Moreover, The Union Textile Ministry also informed that the Textiles Committee in Mumbai will now conduct the certification and testing of PPE body overalls.

On May 18, Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani had tweeted that the production of PPE body suits had crossed 4.5 lacs per day. Additionally, there are 600 companies that have been certified to manufacture the bodysuits for the health workers.

No indigenous production of PPE body suits initially

According to the Secretary of Textiles Committee Ajit Chavan, India lacked reputed manufactures of PPE bodysuits at the time of the Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China. Due to the delay in importing such crucial equipment from China, coupled with increasing prices, the Indian Government decided to procure these bodysuits indigenously.

“With the acquisition of this equipment and with a concrete plan to add some more equipment as per need, we will be able to address not only the quantitative but also the qualitative requirements involved in the testing of body coveralls worn by the frontline health workers and other COVID-19 warriors,” Ajit Chavan was quoted as saying.

The official circular by Ministry of Textiles

Earlier, in a circular dated March 25, 2020, the Ministry of Textiles had set up an Emergency Control room for monitoring the manufacturing supply of N-95 masks, body overalls and melt-blown fabric that are required for protection from the Chinese virus. The circular also listed the names of field officers who were tasked to ensure the smooth supply of the equipment.
