Assam: Sidul Islam sends intimate photos with wife to in-laws, threatens to release on social media if dowry not given

A shocking case of a man blackmailing his in-laws for dowry threatening to release intimate photos of his own wife has emerged in Assam. According to reports, a man named Sidul Islam has sent intimate photos with his own wife to her relatives, threating to make them viral on social media if he is not paid ₹5 lakh as dowry.

According to the family of the girl, Sidul had married the girl from Ramkrishna area in Karimganj last year. But around three months after the marriage, he started harassing her for dowry. Talking to local media, the girl said that Sidul used to beat her regularly, asking her to bring money from her family. Being a poor family, they were unable to comply with the demand, and hence he continued with physical and mental harassment on her. One day when the assault crossed the limit of tolerance, she went back to her parental home.

After that the family of the girl lodged a complaint with police against the man for dowry harassment. But this time Sidul used a disgusting strategy to extort money from his in-laws. He had some intimate photos with his wife, and he used these photos to blackmail his wife’s family in an effort to get money. He sent some of such photos to his wife’s father, uncle and other some relatives on WhatsApp, threatening that if they don’t withdraw the case against him, and don’t pay him ₹5 lakh, he will upload the photos on internet. He called and messaged the family and relatives of his wife several times to pay the money and withdraw the case, saying else he will make the photos viral social media.

The family of the girl has again lodged a complaint against Sidul for this attempt to blackmail. They have also approached the Superintendent of Police at Karimganj regarding the matter.

Faf blames IPL again for South Africa’s poor performance in World Cup

After South Africa made an early exit from the World Cup by losing the match against Pakistan, Faf du Plessis has once again blamed IPL for the poor performance of his team.

Faf du Plessis has already blamed IPL after Dale Steyn was declared unfit for World Cup due to a shoulder injury. This time he again blamed the IPL for the poor performance, especially of his star bowler Rabada who had a splendid IPL season. It’s a bit amusing that South African captain has to come out with such a statement when Indian bowlers are performing well despite playing all the games in IPL.

In the post-match press conference, Faf was replying to a question if Rabada’s lack of potency was down to fatigue, “We did try and get him not to go to the IPL; to try and stay and get fresh. That wasn’t the case of and then when he went there, we were like, let’s try and get him back halfway through the IPL because it’s important, not just for him, but a few other players.”

Kagiso Rabada had a great IPL season as he took 25 wickets at an average of 14.72 for Delhi Capitals, but in World Cup 2019, Rabada has claimed only six wickets at an average of 50.83 and is ranked 25th in the World Cup 2019 wicket-takers’ list.

Faf continued, “So I don’t think it’s not necessarily just the IPL, but it was important for a few guys to rest; and the fact that they didn’t mean that they-you know, they came into the tournament not fresh. That’s not an excuse; that’s just a fact. And KG is-you can see that his pace is probably a little bit down from where he normally is.”

This is South Africa’s worst performance in World Cups, the last time they knocked out of the tournament in the group stage was in 2003. However, that was the final match of the group stage, South Africa’s loss was mainly due to rain and Duck-worth Lewis rule, and not the performance.

Chhattisgarh: Policeman stabbed to death by Maoists in broad daylight in front of his wife and children

In a horrific incident, a policeman was killed by left-wing terrorists at a weekly market in broad daylight on Sunday at Bijapur district, Chattisgarh on Sunday.

Reportedly, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at around 2 pm when assistant constable Chaitu Kadti went to the market in Mirtur village along with his wife and children. The Maoists stalked and killed the policeman in front of his horrified family and other people in Mirtur village.

A ‘small action team’ of Maoists, typically comprising four to five cadres suddenly stabbed Kadti with knives, killing him on the spot. However, the left-wing terrorists did not harm the family members of Kadti.

Shockingly, the Maoists after killing the policeman walked back into the jungle without any fear of retaliation depicting the state the lawlessness in the Congress-ruled Chattisgarh.

According to the police, Kadti was posted at Mirtur police station but regularly took part in anti-Maoist operations. “The rebel must have kept a watch on him and knew he would go shopping with his family to the ‘Haat’ on Sunday,” said an officer.

On getting information about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem, the official said. A search was underway to nab the assailants, he added.

Recently, in a similar incident, a police informer was hacked to death by Maoists in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. A 30-year-old police informer known as Chhannu Sodhi was attacked by a ‘small action team’ of these left-wing terrorists.

It is official: Mayawati announces that the SP-BSP alliance is over, a month after 2019 poll debacle

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Supremo Mayawati today took to Twitter to announce that the BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP) alliance has broken up.

Ending weeks of speculations, Mayawati said the decision was taken yesterday after the marathon meeting the BSP leaders held in Lucknow.

She added that it is a known fact that BSP had kept all the differences with SP behind while getting into the alliance with SP prior to the 2019 General Elections including the ‘anti-BSP decisions’ the SP government took when it was in power between 2012-2017. Despite all this, the BSP kept their part of the bargain in the alliance, she said.

However, after the Lok Sabha polls debacle, SP’s behaviour towards BSP has made them rethink their alliance. She added that with this kind of attitude of the SP, it will not be possible to defeat the BJP. Hence, keeping in mind the party and the movement, the BSP has decided to cut ties with the SP for all the upcoming polls.

The BSP-SP alliance had been on a rocky turf and things collapsed soon after the results of the election were declared. While Mayawati stood to gain by going from zero seats in UP in 2014 to 10 seats in 2019, Samajwadi Party managed to only retain the 5 seats the party had won in 2014 as well.

Uttar Pradesh: Safayat Hussain and his sons beat Gangaram to death for accusing them of his minor daughter’s kidnapping

On Wednesday, 19 June in Dilari, Uttar Pradesh, a 54-year-old Gangaram was beaten up and killed by a Muslim mob after he had complained to the police about his daughter’s abduction.

As reported by Amar Ujala, Gangaram of Pipili Umarpur had accused his neighbour’s son of the abduction. However, it was later found out that the minor girl was kidnapped by another person named Nadeem. The girl has been found and Nadeem has been arrested after relatives staged a protest, blocking a road.

Gangaram’s 15-year-old daughter had gone missing about three days ago. After the complaint was filed, the police did not take any further action following which the SSP had suspended station chief Deepak Kumar for negligence.

As per reports, Gangaram had complained to the police alleging that Danish, his neighbour Safayat Hussein’s son, had kidnapped his daughter. On hearing about the complaint, several relatives of Danish went to Gangaram’s house. They allegedly then beat Gangaram and his family up with sticks for wrongly accusing Danish of the crime. Gangaram was badly injured. His relatives took him to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead by the doctors.

The next day, after the post mortem, angry relatives of Gangaram placed his body on a road, blocking the traffic and they proceeded to shout slogans against police inaction. Members of the Hindu Raksha Dal had also joined the protests demanding swift action by the police. The protests were curbed only after police arrested Safayat Hussain, Danish, Chhotu and another person named Akram for beating Gangaram to death. Reports say that Gangaram’s wife and son have also sustained serious injuries.

There are also some media reports which have claimed that Gangaram was attacked and killed because he had objected to his Muslim neighbour’s advances towards his daughter. However, as reported by Amarujala, police claim to have found that the girl was abducted by another person named Nadeem. Nadeem is now in police custody.

Following this incident, tension prevailed between the Hindu and Muslim communities in the area. Taking cognisance of the communally sensitive issue, extra forces have been deployed in the village.

World Cup Match Preview – Afghanistan v Bangladesh: Can Afghanistan win their first game of the tournament

Afghanistan finally showed up in the World Cup in the last match where they lost by just 11 runs against India. However, they have proved that they got the strength and quality to play in the current World Cup. Can they finally win a game today?

Bangladesh would be hoping to beat Afghanistan easily so that they don’t have to rely on failures of other teams to reach the semi-final. They won against the two major sides of this tournament and gave a good fight to the 5-time champions Australia in the previous match. It should be an easy task for them to beat Afghanistan despite Afghans shown some resilience in their game against India. Their batting is their main strength, and they can score runs without fuss whether they are batting first or second.

Afghanistan will rely on their spinners to give them the hope of winning the contest. They bowled beautifully on the Ages Bowl wicket on Saturday, and they will be playing again on the same track. They have nothing to lose, but they can surely spoil the party of others. That’s the only thing in their mind at the moment as said by their captain in the pre-match conference, ‘Hum to dubenge sanam saath tumhe bhi le dubenge’

Players to watch out

Mohammad Nabi who has played an excellent inning against India and almost won the match for his team. His off-spin on the spinning track can help in breaking partnerships, with two spinners already doing well, his contribution with the ball would be a bonus point.

Shakib Al Hasan has a rare failure in the previous game against Australia; he has already scored 425 runs in the tournament, the second highest after Warner in the competition. He has contributed with the ball as well, and if he performs today, then it will easy for Bangladesh to win the match.

34 Pakistani migrant Hindus from 3 districts of Rajasthan granted Indian citizenship

The Rajasthan government has granted Indian citizenship to 34 Pakistani migrant Hindus living in 3 districts in Rajasthan. Recently, additional chief secretary (home) Rajeeva Swarup has informed that in the month of June, 34 Pakistani Hindu migrants were granted citizenship by the government.

As per reports, many of these Hindus have been living in India for over a decade. The group includes 19 people from Barmer, 10 from Pali and 5 from Jalore district in Rajasthan.

In Barmer, district collector Himanshu Gupta and additional district collector Rakesh Kumar Sharma had handed over the certificates of citizenship to the 19 Hindu migrants at the conference hall in the collectorate on last Wednesday.

The collector also asked the new citizens to get their names registered in the voters’ list to avail all facilities extended to the citizens of India.

As per reports, from January 2019 to June 17, 2019, as many as 79 displaced Pakistani Hindus have been granted Indian citizenship. Previously, in March, 44 migrant Pakistani Hindus were granted citizenship in Rajasthan. Of the 44 people, 12 were from Barmer, 15 from Udaipur, 11 from Pali, and 06 were from Jalore district.

Hindus in Pakistan are subjected to blatant injustice, persecution and forced conversions. Every week, many Hindu families board the Thar express under Indian visa and travel to India, never to go back again. At present, there are hundreds of Pakistani Hindu families living in several areas in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

As per reports, the migrant Hindus from Pakistan have to go through an extensive and long process to be eligible for Indian citizenship. The reports by the Intelligence Bureau and state CID are necessary to initiate the process. Passport expiry and visa validity periods are also crucial.

Many of the Pakistani Hindus often live in temporary camps and earn a meagre living by selling from carts. Even the educated Hindu migrants fail to secure jobs because of the lack of necessary documents.

Watch: Indian Air Force commemorates 20 years of Kargil War, recreates Tiger Hill attack and victory

Commemorating 20 years of the Kargil War, the Indian Air Force on Monday recreated Tiger Hill attack and static display of Mirage-2000 and other aircraft used during ‘Operation Vijay’, reports ANI.

Ahead of the 20th anniversary in July of the India-Pakistan war, the IAF has planned several activities at the Gwalior Air Base. Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa will be the Chief Guest at the event to honour the brave soldiers who had laid their lives during the Kargil war.

Reportedly, several gallantry award winners, both serving and retired, who had participated in ‘Operation Vijay’ would be attending the event at the Gwalior Air Base. A number of events have been also planned by the Indian Army in Delhi and Dras in Jammu and Kashmir next month to mark the 20th anniversary of the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, officials earlier said.

The anniversary celebrations for this year will be spread over three days from July 25-27.

“However, as part of the build-up to the main event, numerous activities have been planned to be organised all over the country from the first week of July,” an official said.

Reportedly, the celebrations in Delhi will begin on July 14 with the illumination of a ‘Victory Flame’ from the National War Memorial here, which would traverse through 11 towns and cities to finally culminate at Dras where it will be merged with the eternal flame at the ‘Kargil War Memorial’, he said.

The objective of these celebrations is to evoke a feeling of patriotism through nationwide campaigns especially amongst the youth and to pay homage to the valiant soldiers.

“The Kargil War will always be remembered for its strategic and tactical surprises, the self-imposed national strategy of restraint in keeping the war limited to Kargil-Siachen sectors, and the swiftly executed tri-services military strategy and plans,” the Army had said.

The Kargil war took place between May and July of 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil district. The conflict was orchestrated by the then Pakistan army chief General Pervez Musharraf without the knowledge of the then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The war began with the infiltration of both Pakistani troops and terrorists into Indian territory. The infiltrators positioned themselves in key locations that gave them a strategic advantage during the start of the conflict. After local shepherds became aware of the incursions, the Indian Army was able to ascertain the points of incursion and launch “Operation Vijay”.

The Battle of Tiger Hill is one of the bravest battles fought around the peak of Tiger Hill by the Indian Army against Pakistan from May to June in 1999, during the Kargil War. The Indian Army had launched an offence against the Pakistani intruders on top of Tiger Hill, The three battalions of the Indian Army, namely 18 Grenadiers, 2 Naga, and 8 Sikh, were given the responsibility to capture the peak, with additional support from the artillery.

After a difficult operation, which lasted 36 hours, the Indian Army re-captured Tiger Hill. In all, 38 Indian troops were killed in action, while 92 Pakistani troops were killed in action. Yogendra Singh Yadav of 18 Grenadiers was awarded the highest military honour of the Indian Republic, the Param Vir Chakra. Overall Yadav was hit by 14 bullets and played a major role in the capture of Tiger hills.

RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya resigns, six months prior to scheduled end of term

Reserve Bank of India’s Deputy Governor Viral V Acharya has resigned from his post, six months before the scheduled end of his term.

According to the reports, Viral Acharya who had joined the Reserve Bank in January 2017, was the RBI’s youngest deputy governor, post-economic liberalisation. Reportedly, Acharya will be returning to New York University in his previous job as the CV Starr Professor of Economics.

Acharya had resigned a few weeks before the last meeting of RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) that was held on June 6. However, his last days as Deputy Governor will end a few days before the July end.

Acharya, known for his hawkish monetary policy, reportedly had a difference of opinion with Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das over easing of interest rates to boost economic growth. While Das stood for cutting policy repo rate to focus on economic growth, Deputy Governor Viral Acharya had advised against another rate cut fearing another inflation cycle.

However, the six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) had decided to reduce the policy repo rate by 25 basis points to 6 per cent in a 4-2 majority decision.

Currently, Viral Acharya is in charge of the Financial Stability Unit, Monetary Policy Department, Department of Economic and Policy Research, Financial Markets Operation Department, Financial Market Regulation Department, among others at the RBI.

Acharya has co-authored several research papers with former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and has also called him his ‘inspiration’.

At the wake of Acharya’s resignation, another Deputy Governor of the RBI, NS Vishwanathan, whose term is also due to end in the first week of July will reportedly stay back for another two-years.

Cricket World Cup: Video and statistical highlights from Pakistan v South Africa match

South Africa’s horrifying performance continued on Sunday, resulting in an early exit from the World Cup. The good news is for Pakistani fans, as the win keeps their hopes alive to reach the semis.

After winning the toss, Sarfaraz decided to bat first. The openers gave a fabulous start by adding 81 runs in 15 overs — the kind of start every team wants to have in important games like this. Their number one batsman Baba Azam batted beautifully for his 69, but their main man Harris Sohail who was making a come back in the team smashed 89 off 59 balls. Sohail’s 89 is the third fastest World Cup innings for Pakistan. The innings helped Pakistan to reach a score of 308. Probably more than enough against the fragile batting line up of South Africa. Ngidi took three wickets but was the most expensive bowler of their side.

Watch: Pakistan Innings

South Africa, started poorly, as the out of form opener failed again, Amla got out in the second over of the innings for just two runs. Faf and de Kock then tried to build the innings and added 89 runs in 18 overs. The pace with which they were scoring wasn’t enough to chase down a score of 308. The partnership though added 89 runs, but it was composed at below five an over. Ultimately it built an added pressure on the incoming batsmen, and they kept giving away their wickets in search of getting runs quickly. Even though Pakistan dropped 4-5 catches in the match, South Africa never looked like chasing down the target. Wahab and Shadab took three wickets each while Amir got 2. Pakistan won the match by 49 runs and Harris Sohail was adjudged Man of the Match.

  • Forty-four runs by Fakhar and Imam today is the highest same score by openers in a WC match.
