Muslim mob in Mathura thrashes Hindu shop owner to death, called him “Kaafir” while assaulting

On 18th May, an agitated Muslim mob in the town of Mathura descended upon two Hindu lassi shopowners- both brothers, located at the crammed Chowk Bazaar of Mathura, close to the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple. Following a minor tiff, a burqa-clad woman brought along with her a bloodthirsty mob at the iconic ‘Nattho Yadav Lassiwale’ to exact revenge for the perceived inequity meted out to her. The mob indulged in brutally thrashing the lassi shop owners while addressing them ‘Kaafir’, a pejorative reference to non-Muslims.

As per the report by Swati Goel Sharma of Swarajya Magazine, the Muslim mob attacked the brothers on the instructions from the burqa-clad woman who addressed the shopowners as ‘Kaafirs’ while goading on the mob to attack them. Pankaj Yadav and Bharat Yadav, the two brothers who were managing the shop at that time were severely injured in the attack. Though the brothers were taken for dressing their external wounds, the elder brother Bharat sustained internal injuries and within a week’s time on May 24, his health deteriorated and on the following day, he died. The post-mortem revealed that Bharat’s brain and nerves were damaged in the attack.

According to his younger brother Pankaj Yadav’s testimony filed in the FIR on May 18, two women along with 8-10 men came to their shop at 8:30 pm in the evening. The shop owners told them to wait as there were customers waiting before them. However, the group taunted the brothers of being sluggish and hurled abused at them. After the group was fed with lassi, they entered in a brawl yet again when asked to pay up for the lassi. Eventually, the shop owners asked the group to leave the place without paying. A while later the group returned with 15-20 men and thrashed the brothers and vandalised their shop. They even took with them Rs 15000-Rs 20000 cash kept at the counter.

Pankaj has alleged two main culprits- Haneef and Shahrukh for ransacking his shop and has affirmed of identifying them if produced before him. The FIR registered by the police has booked Sharukh, Haneef and others under Section 395(dacoity) while not mentioning the violence meted out by them. A day after Bharat breathed his last, on 26th May, the enraged traders kept their shops closed and protested against the assault.

The traders were furious with police on many counts. They were agitated that the sentry posted by the police in the area to guard the market wasn’t in his place when the brawl broke out. They were also miffed that the police has so far not made a single arrest in the case and that the police let off the two accused in the FIR on the night of the incident itself.

The protestors were assuaged only when the police assured them that they will be arresting all the culprits in 24 hours. The police also added Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in the FIR. As of June 2, the police have made 7 arrests in the case. However, the people have called the arrests as fake and accused the police of shielding the real culprits.

Many traders in the area allege that the mother of the accused is a popular Samajwadi leader who goes by the sobriquet ‘netani’ and thus the police have been protecting him. Mansoor Ali, a nearby resident, said that the people with vested interest were giving it a communal flair while it was just a spat between two groups. He added that the police should arrest those involved in the crime.

Traders in the area are deeply shocked at the audacious attack. A palpable sense of trepidation is prevalent among the locals as many have denied giving statements on video. Many of them summarily refused to talk about the incidents while many were ready to reveal their eyewitness story on the condition of anonymity.

As per the account shared by one brave eyewitness Ram Singh, a spat broke out when the group claimed that they had 5 glasses of lassis while the shop owners insisted that they had nine. The women alleged the brothers of being high on bhaang while the shop owners retorted back saying she must be high on liquor. Being offended at the affront, the woman left in a hurry claiming that she will teach the brothers a lesson. Singh said that a savage mob soon arrived that beat Bharat mercilessly. He was hauled out of the shop and clobbered brutally on the street. Ram Singh said that Bharat was beaten by an iron rod used to break ice in the Lassi shop.

From what many traders have gathered from the local people, the woman fabricated a story sexual molestation by the brothers to incite the mob against them.

Pankaj Yadav said that far from molesting her the shop owners only asked the group to leave with their folded hands. He alleged that the woman hurled nasty abuses at them and challenged them to file a police complaint against them. “What can you do? File a police report? I will get bail easily,” she said. Yadav also asserted that the group that came to assault them called them ‘Kaafirs’.

Yadav added that the burqa-clad woman constantly goaded the group to continue to assault them with lathis and rods. According to an eye witness, the mob told the lassi sellers that it was because of Yogi Adityanath and Narendra Modi that they were getting encouraged. The eye witness continued that the mob claimed that they were not afraid of Modi and Yogi.

Rajasthan: Imran who posed as Kabir Sharma to marry Hindu girl detained by Sikar police

On Tuesday, a couple was detained in Mumbai’s Nalasopara area by the police after it was alleged that the man who was a Muslim had faked his identity to marry a Hindu girl. The man identified as Imran Bhati reportedly pretended to be a Brahmin Hindu when he sought the hand of Vijay Lakshmi. Vijay Lakshmi’s father had filed a case on May 25th after the couple were found to be missing.

DSP Saurabh Tiwari said, “The arrest is made in connection with a much-discussed issue from Sikar where a Muslim man masqueraded as Brahmin and married a Brahmin girl. A case was registered under IPC section 277/19 and a team was formed to trace and apprehend the man and woman. They were arrested on Tuesday from Mumbai.”

As reported earlier this month, the accused Imran Bhati not only faked his identity but also received a huge dowry following which the couple had gone missing. Vijay Lakshmi’s father had to give him a sum of Rs 11 lakh rupees in cash and another Rs 5 lakh in jewellery.

Imran had introduced himself as Kabir Sharma and had fake relatives to attend his wedding ceremonies. They were married on May 13 after which Vijay Lakshmi was sent to get more dowry from her father. After receiving a large sum, both of them had fled. It’s only after this that Vijay Lakshmi’s father had discovered Imran’s true identity after searching for them in Jaipur. Imran already had a family with a wife and three kids.

Why BJP performed so badly in Tamil Nadu: from caste to communication, here are the reasons

Modi is back. He is back with more seats, power and most of all with a bigger mandate than he had in 2014. As Mr. Surjit Bhalla pointed out during his poll analysis in one of the TV channels, it was a ‘Modi Earthquake’; because of the way Modi had exerted dominance contrary to many people’s beliefs and desires. Probably the only blot in this extraordinary victory for the BJP is Tamilnadu (TN). Not only did the state not elect any BJP MP, it defeated the only sitting MP from 2014, Mr. Pon Radhakrishnan of Kanyakumari constituency. The state BJP and many of its volunteers were confident of winning 4 seats out of the 5 that was allocated to them in their NDA coalition. But they have lost all 5. A big loss.

Tamil Nadu vs other South Indian states

One may point fingers at Kerala and Andhra and say that neither of those south Indian states gave elected any BJP candidates. It is only partially true. On deeper analysis, one would see that the voting percentage for BJP in Kerala has clearly increased. Neither can one dismiss the fact that there was some sort of a Hindu consolidation that lost to the minority consolidation in the end. If we take Andhra on the other hand, there was a huge anti-incumbency wave against Chandrababu Naidu. His party TDP has been totally decimated. So it would be fair to assume that no party had the chance to withstand this wave. Even the Congress party was unable to win a seat there. Therefore it would be wrong to compare these states with what has happened in Tamilnadu.

There have been a lot of comments by Tamil Nadu BJP (TNBJP) supporters (including yours truly) expressing anguish in social media platforms on how the people of the state have chosen to vote for the UPA alliance who have been, for the past few years, pretty much anti-development, anti Hindu and anti – India. On first glance, the reasons that they ascribed to this loss seem to be justified. After all, it is the people of the state who voted and they have done so, against the BJP and specifically against Modi who is uncorrupt, pro-development and is nationalistic to the core. But this allegation would only be partially true. A deeper analysis needs to be made in finding why the people voted so and if the party had any role in its own debacle. Hence, here is an attempt at such an analysis of the party’s failure in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu presents a very unique and significant problem for the BJP. It has failed in a state, which was the largest beneficiary for some of its key governmental schemes like MUDRA, defense corridor, Ayushman Bharat Yojana etc. And it has also failed in a state with quite a large population of Hindus; the party’s largest and traditional vote-bank, regardless of whether it acknowledges it or not. Yet, the party and its mechanism failed to make any considerable impact in the minds of the people of Tamil Nadu while they were able to accomplish just that in states like West Bengal, Tripura and even Kerala.

Understanding Tamil Nadu

Before going any further, one needs to understand the reality of TN and its politics. It is one of the developed states in the country. Most of the state was electrified even before Modi came to power in 2014. The state has had a good health care scheme even before the PM’s Ayushman yojana, called the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). The literacy rate is pretty good when compared to the rest of the country. Perhaps the only big issue is water. Everyone is aware of the Cauvery issue. There are many many districts in south TN, which have been suffering from perpetual drought. This has, of course, affected agriculture in the state.

But when it comes to politics, the state is full of contradictions that would baffle any outsider. This is the typical perception of BJP in the state: ‘It is a party of the RSS. RSS is a Brahminical organization. Hence, so is BJP. BJP is also a North Indian Party. Hence they are Aryans whereas we Tamils are Dravidians (Oh yes, the basis for all this is Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT)!). The Dravidians were oppressed by Aryans. Hinduism is actually Brahminism (that’s is why if you debate any Dravidianist or Tamil chauvinist, his final argument will be, “ Will you let non-brahmins do the puja in temples”!). Since BJP supports Hindutva, its Brahminical tendencies are exposed. So everything the party does is with the intention to oppress the Tamils, ergo, the fight between Aryans Vs Dravidians that started millenniums ago is still going on.” All this attitude while most of the Tamilians are practising Hindus who visit temples regularly.

When the Supreme Court bans Jallikattu, there is BJP’s hand in it. Even when it was the UPA government that brought the ONGC Hydrocarbon project to Neduvasal, which was also approved by the present DMK chief, M.K. Stalin, it is only the BJP that planned to take over the farmers’ lands by killing them with poisonous methane gas. Even when there is no pollution from the Sterlite Copper Industry, there is the Hindutva’s party hand in it, which wants to destroy the people living in Tuticorin by polluting them, despite the NGT’s no objection certificate for its functioning. The NEET exam is another act of oppression by the Hindutva Aryan brigade to oppress the Dravidians. It doesn’t matter if the BJP builds a statue of Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar in Haridwar. Nor does it matter if the government makes it a rule to print local languages on railway tickets. In other words, anti-Modi/anti-Hindutva is the flavour of the state.

Historically it used to be the function of Periyar’s Dravida Kazhagam (DK), to spread such spurious propaganda. Nowadays, it is a conglomeration of many forces which includes DK, Tamil Separatists/Nationalists like Seeman, Evangelists and the Church with their paid NGOs, Islamist organizations like IMUL, SDPI, PDP. All these forces are supported by the DMK party, fuelled by the Tamil media and fully endorsed by Kollywood actors and directors. For e.g., all these groups were involved in the Jalikattu protests. They were all involved in the beef protests. One of the first medical institutions that protested against NEET in TN and went to the court was the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, because then they would be forced to accept students from other parts of the country who wouldn’t be Christians. It was then joined by the SRM medical college, Chennai, which used it’s media power and TV channels to discredit NEET and consequently BJP. The Sterlite Protests saw the direct involvement of the church from the start to finish.

BJP’s own role in the campaign

Now let us consider the BJP’s own role in this disastrous campaign. Probably one of the obvious reasons that everyone in the state agrees on is the leadership of TNBJP. Much to the dismay of several of the party’s well-wishers in the state, the central leadership changed the state leadership after the 2014 elections. In the larger context of things this change was understandable and a necessary one too. The BJP, like in many places in India and especially in TN, has always been looked upon as a party of Brahmins. With TN being the proponent and sustainer of the fascist, anti-Brahmin, Dravidian ideology, it was only natural for the BJP to try to change that image and have an OBC leader which it was fully justified in doing so.

But it then curiously opted for Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan as the TNBJP president. No one in the state knew about her prior to that, not even many BJP Karykartas. She is a good person with a kind heart, probably is a good doctor too, but the same could not be attributed to her political acumen and her leadership skills. In both these avenues, she has been found to be seriously lacking. Forget TN politics, she couldn’t even unify the different factions inside TNBJP. It is an open secret in the state that there are many factions inside the state party unit with their own agendas who could care less about their rivals in their organization. But as a leader she should’ve been able to put an end to it by unifying them towards a common goal or at least restrict the damages caused by these divisions, keeping them to the minimum. But she has done neither. There was dissatisfaction with the party state-in charges like P. Murlidhar Rao as well, who just couldn’t understand the nature of TN politics. The central leadership was informed/warned several times about these shortcomings by BJP well-wishers, karyakartas and volunteers. But for reasons unknown, it paid no heed to it.

The party should’ve realized its mistake at least after Late CM, Ms. Jayalalitha’s death. They were caught off-guard, fully unprepared for the events that were to follow. After her demise, the anti-national Hinduphobic forces mentioned earlier left no stone unturned in creating and setting up a narrative of anti-Modi hysteria and Hinduphobia, that has heavily affected the state politics and most likely would play a part for years to come in the future. Issues like Jallikattu, which was actually a Hindu issue and which should’ve ideally been taken up by the state BJP unit, were instead taken up by these anti-social elements, making them as their cause. This gave rise to several newer parties like Naam Tamilar Katchi under Seeman, Makkal Nidhi Mayam under Kamal Hassan, which have now encroached upon the NDA votes.

Communication failure on part of BJP

Probably the biggest reason for the party’s dismal electoral loss is the failure in communication at both the state and the central level. If we take West Bengal as an example, the main central leadership of Modi, Amit Shah and several other BJP leaders were able to easily communicate their ideas to the Bengalis through their speeches in Hindi. The people in Bengal were able to understand them just fine, without any translator/interpreter. But when it comes to Tamil Nadu, their inability to speak in Tamil has always been a huge handicap. If Modi were able to talk in Tamil, BJP in all probability would be ruling TN by now. But sadly after the initial rumours in 2014 of its leaders learning Tamil, the party has not moved in that direction.

Even this handicap of their central leadership could have been counterbalanced to a certain extent with good charismatic state leaders. But that too hasn’t happened yet. Just imagine how pathetic the situation is when the two most ‘Capitalistic’ districts of TN, Coimbatore and Tirupur, have ironically elected CPI (Communist Party of India) candidates in this election. In fact, TN has elected more communist candidates than Kerala and Bengal put together. Strangely these two districts also have a large RSS cadre with a strong BJP presence and are considered as its stronger constituencies. Demonetization and GST have of course affected these districts which have a large number of SMSE, but it is the responsibility of the state leadership to pacify those who were affected, make them understand the issues and policies and provide relief to them, none of which happened. The central leadership has failed miserably in nurturing and identifying good leaders who could take a stand, fight on crucial issues and communicate as well, especially from the OBC and Dalit communities. It is not clear if this is because of the party’s extensive attention to northern and northeastern states or if they have genuinely given up on TN.

Of course, the recent wisdom on BJP’s electoral victories throughout the country in the last 5 years would indicate that such caste equations have been junked. But as it has been mentioned earlier, TN is a unique state, in that it is not like UP or Rajasthan or Haryana where particular dominant castes like the Yadavs or Jats or other OBC communities play a big electoral role. Here almost all the communities have been groomed by propaganda to agree on one common thing, and that is Brahmanophobia. Hence the importance of an OBC leader of any caste who all could agree upon.

Commitment towards Hindu issues

The third crucial reason for the party’s debacle is the state unit’s non-committal attitude towards Hindu issues. These are not just issues that pertain to one religion, namely the Hindu religion. But it broadly encompasses a range of Indic civilizational issues that have been set up as a consequence of false narratives and propaganda. The BJP state unit has been a mute spectator at worst and a feeble one at best, to the increasing propaganda of separating Hinduism from Tamil culture. During the last three years when this propaganda has been at its peak, there has hardly been any proactive action from the party to counter it.

It has now become a fashion in TN for Tamilians to proclaim that they are not a Hindu, that Hinduism has got nothing to do with Tamil culture and that they are just a Shaivite or Vaishnavite. The central leadership should also take the blame for not giving sufficient response to this absurd indoctrination. They still probably haven’t realized how much this propaganda has affected their prospects not only in this election but also for the future. This vicious campaign has successfully checked the consolidation of Hindus, the biggest vote bank for BJP and instead morphed into a regional/lingual/civilizational fight. As a national party and that too as the principal ruling party of the nation, the party should’ve been much more involved in taking proactive measures against these forces.

Of course, there were one or two voices in the party like H. Raja, who spoke against this sinister propaganda. But they were the wrong ones. More accurately, they were of the wrong castes. They come with the tag of being Brahmins. So one could easily understand the limitation of the reach of their message in a state, which prides itself in its anti-brahminical fanaticism. Even Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is not spared, because she is a Brahmin by birth. And now the Mr. Jaishankar, the new Minister of External Affairs, has been added to this August list.

Hindu consolidation

Fortunately, in the last few months, there were indeed some feeble signs of Hindu consolidation in a few parts of the state. A few blabbermouths, unable to contain their Hinduphobia within themselves spewed venom on Hindu Gods, traditions. This included the present DMK chief M.K. Stalin and his sister, Kanimozhi along with a number of their party men and supporters. While individual Hindus and a few organizations rose up to call out these Hinduphobes and protest against them, the state BJP leadership was again missing in action. Not a single leader was protesting shoulder to shoulder with them. In fact, there was a rumour that the state organization earlier this year, in its recommendations to the central leadership on the strategies to fight the elections in the state, specifically mentioned that the party has to distance itself from taking up any Hindu issue! Even if this rumour turns out to be false, the actions and the response of the party would indicate otherwise.

In West Bengal, BJP had just 2 MPS from 2014 elections. What changed in between 2012 – 2019? BJP fought against the Hinduphobia and the appeasement of minorities. It fought for Durga Puja and Jai Shree Ram. And today it is seeing the rich dividends of that fight with 18 MPs and 4 MLAs in the by-election. Who would have thought 5 years ago that the once communist citadel of communism in India would vote for Hindutva? On the other hand, in Tamil Nadu, there was a tremendous consolidation of minorities and other Hinduphobic elements. The party, in its attempt to portray itself more ‘progressive’ and ‘inclusive’ and to ‘prove its enemies wrong’, distances itself from those very people who could bring it to power. And in many cases it even betrays them. There are truckloads of stories that one can listen to from various ground-level Hindu activists and organizations in TN, who have been cold-shouldered by the state BJP leadership when they were in need of their support.

Modi and development agenda

Now one could ask if the development agenda of Modi had no impact on the people. Of course, it had. There were many beneficiaries in the state who took advantage of the central schemes. But at the state level, it never became the agenda that Modi would’ve liked. The only agenda was Hindutva. And since Modi was seen as a poster boy for the same, he obviously became the agenda. In fact, this has worked against BJP’s coalition partners in the state. Both the ADMK and PMK who had won seats in 2014, faced a huge setback this time. Many of their supporters are now lamenting that their loss was due to their association with BJP which is probably true. While the ADMK was able to win enough seats in the assembly by-polls to save its state government from falling, it could manage to win just one seat in the general polls.

If development was indeed a big issue like in other states, then the lone BJP MP from Kanyakumari wouldn’t have lost after having done some fabulous work there. If corruption was a big issue then Karti Chidambaram wouldn’t have won. If Cauvery water was the key issue then the people in Tanjore and Thiruvarur districts wouldn’t have voted for DMK even after Nitin Gadkari’s promise of connecting Godavari and Cauvery which would make 1000 tmc of water available for the state. This would take care of most of its water woes. If the killing/arresting of fishermen in Rameshwaram (who are not Hindus, by the way) was an issue, then the people wouldn’t have elected for a Muslim league candidate who is part of the UPA. The Modi government was successful in stopping these killings and was also able to get the Sri Lankan government to release the fishermen who were arrested by them.

Tamil Nadu and other developed states

Let us compare TN with another developed state, Maharashtra. Maharashtra like TN is similar in many ways when comparing several developmental indices. And it has had similar water problems like TN. The BJP government that rules the state came up with the Jalyukta Shivir to address this problem and it has been hugely successful which has also helped the party in all its elections. Now compare that with TN. It was under the BJP government at the centre that the Cauvery Water Management and Regulatory Committees were formed after such a long struggle. This indicates how much these developmental issues were in focus in TN for the polls when compared to other states. Hence the reason why BJP needs to concentrate on Hindu/ civilizational issues in the state is not just to support Hindus but it is to chiefly untangle this complicated knot of anti-development, Hinduphobia, anti-national agenda and to carry forward with its developmental program.

The central leadership has also its share of the blame. There is this argument that the rival candidates in TN had crores and crores of money to throw at people to purchase their votes. And indeed it is true. Otherwise, who would’ve thought that probably the most corrupt bunch of politicians in Indian history could all be elected en masse, be it Kanimozhi, A. Raja, Karti Chidambaram or Dayanidhi Maran? But then the central BJP government should also be questioned on why and how they let these corrupt politicians get away when they were caught in several multicrore scams?

Agreed, that the government shouldn’t interfere with the workings of other governmental institutions like the judiciary and CBI etc. They all have to maintain their autonomy. But it would only be sensible for the government to make and present stronger cases against these corrupt individuals during investigations and in the courts. For eg, when Kanimozhi and A. Raja were acquitted by the Special Court, the court said that the prosecution had failed to prove any charges. By then, the Modi government was in power for almost three and a half years and it could have presented a cogent argument against the accused. Again, Karti Chidambaram has been getting bail after bail for years and yet there had been no decisive step taken by the government to cancel those bails and let him stand trial. PM Modi always has spoken about how the ‘chalta hai’ attitude had been the obstacle in India’s development. But seems like his government, in all these cases, has exhibited just that attitude. There is no point in blaming the thief who is stealing again when you didn’t punish him earlier.

Need of the hour

A strong nationalistic party like BJP is very much the need of the hour in Tamil Nadu. Take a map of India. And if one is asked to point out a single state that is a microcosm of all the problems in India, especially security issues, then the only state that would fit the description is Tamil Nadu. Take any of these issues that are of concern to India: Islamization, Evangelization, Naxalism, Separatism, Communism, alcoholism, Casteism, anti-nationalism, Hinduphobia and many more. All these concerns exist together in a single state, Tamilnadu, which also happens to be a Hindu majority state with developmental aspirations. This makes it quite a good representation of Bharat. Other states have to deal with only one or a few of these concerns, not all. Kashmir has to deal with Islamic terrorism. North East with just Christian terrorism and separatists. Chattisgarh with Naxalites and so on. But Tamilnadu has the entire range of these severe issues all within itself. So even if not for Hindutva for its own survival as a political party, it is imperative for BJP to establish itself as a dominant force in the state at least for the sake of the larger concern of national security. Otherwise, TN would be the next Kashmir in the next few years.

Already alarm bells have started ringing after the Easter bomb attacks in Sri Lanka. NIA has been actively raiding Islamic organization and centres. There were extensive prayer meetings organized throughout Tamilnadu by various churches during and after elections to make sure that Narendra Modi is defeated. There is still no credible data available on the demographic change in TN especially with so many crypto–Christians in the state.

It may probably look excessive and melodramatic if one asks the party to be concerned now, right at the juncture of one its best and almost perfect electoral victory. But if it is willing to seriously introspect on its disastrous show in the state then it needs to fix its organization/leadership and its communication strategies ASAP. It needs to nurture and identify candidates with those abilities. It can’t procrastinate in taking these decisions. It can’t go soft on Dravidian politics. And more importantly, it can’t run away from taking up Hindu civilizational issues.

Another ‘hate crime’ bites the dust: Muslim inmate in Tihar branded himself with ‘Om’ symbol with help from associate

In April, a Muslim inmate at Tihar jail, Nabbir, had claimed that he was branded with the ‘Om’ symbol on his back by the jail superintendent. He had also claimed that the authorities had forced him to fast during Navratri and he had been thrashed. He had made these allegations in front of the Metropolitan Magistrate Richar Parihar who ordered a probe into the entire matter.

The probe has now been completed and a report has been submitted to the court. According to the report that has been submitted, the inmate had levelled “False allegations” against the authorities. He was branded with the symbol by his own associate.

The Indian Express was told by unnamed sources that the investigative team under a DIG-rank officer had scanned CCTV footage from Jail No. 4 where Nabbir was lodged at. A senior is reported to have said, “During the investigation, it was found that he appeared before the superintendent in his office on April 12, but left within minutes. Security personnel conducted his frisking when he was leaving, but he had not complained of any pain when they touched him.”

After April 12, he was also reportedly seen playing Badminton within the jail premises which should not have been possible given the injury. “The inquiry team met some of his associates and came to know he had allegedly taken help from one of them,” an official was quoted as saying. Nabbir has been imprisoned for the past 15 months and a case is registered against him under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and Arms Act.

Reports have stated that Nabbir had made false claims to implicate the jail superintendent and pressurise the jail authorities.

With this, another ‘hate crime’ has bitten the dust. The narrative was peddled by the likes of politicians such as Asaduddin Owaisi whose brother is known to make incendiary remarks against Hindus.

A series of so-called ‘hate crimes’ have been found to be the attempts by people to further the Muslim-victimhood narrative. Only recently, the much talked about Gurugram ‘hate crime’ incident turned out to be another incident where a fake narrative was cooked up to brand Hindus as aggressors and Muslims as innocent victims. The Police even said that Barkat Alam, the alleged victim, may have been tutored to give the supposed crime a communal angle.

In another instance, a road-rage incident was given a communal spin by India Times. Then, there was the case of the law student from Meerut who had claimed that she was targeted by fellow students and harassed due to her religion. Her victim narrative was busted by her own classmates who confirmed that nothing of the sort had happened. She never even showed up for the inquiry set up by college authorities on the matter. It was eventually closed due to her non-participation.

While such fake ‘hate crimes’ against Muslims are propped up and widely discussed to shame the Hindu community, actual hate crimes against Hindus are quietly ignored. Actual mob violence perpetrated by members of the minority community is often ignored as well while the secular camp is too busy discussing ‘hate crimes’ which eventually turn out to be bogus.

Rumours of YSRC leader YV Subba Reddy, allegedly a Christian, being appointed head of TTD Trust sparks protests

A severe controversy has erupted after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Reddy decided to appoint his close relative and former Ongole MP Subba Reddy, who is alleged to be converted Christian, to the post of chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) evoking huge protests in the social media.

According to the reports, YS Jagan Reddy, who himself is allegedly converted Christian, has decided to appoint his maternal uncle YV Subba Reddy as the Chairman of one of the country’s richest Hindu temple administration board – the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

Reportedly, Subba Reddy is being picked up as YS Jagan Reddy feels that his uncle is a man who has a spiritual and religious bent of mind. Subba Reddy has been playing an important role in party activities in East and West Godavari districts so far.

The TTD is a trust run by IAS officers, administrators and political appointees whose job is to coordinate with the temple priests and ensure that the devotees who visit in lakhs get the best of the services. Previously, the TDP government under N Chandrababu Naidu had appointed Putta Sudhakar Yadav as the Chairman of the TTD board. He is yet to resign from the board despite his party lost the state elections to the YSR Congress.

However, social media users and practising Hindus were found to be upset as the rumours began to spread that a converted Christian was chosen as the Chairman of one of the Hindu’s most sacred and spiritual shrines in the country.

Social media users criticised the decision saying that Indian secularism allows state governments to control and destroy Hindu Temples.

Another user also termed the rumoured appointment of converted Christian YV Subbareddy as the final nail in the coffin of Lord Venkateswara.

Ishkaran Bhandari, a renowned Supreme Court lawyer demanded the independence of Hindu temples from the government control.

However, a report by GreatAndhra claims that it is fake news that YV Subba Reddy is Christian. It says that he is a staunch Hindu, unlike Jagan and his family. He is married to Yerram Swarnalatha Reddy, sister of Jagan’s mother Vijayalakshmi. Swarnalatha did not convert to Christianity, and she follows pure Hindu tradition, according to the report.

Speeding car that triggered Namazis into violence in Delhi was being driven by one Shahrukh

In East Delhi, on the occasion of Eid, a speeding car had caused Namazis to riot and damage public property. It was rumoured that 17 Namazis were injured which turned out to be completely false. The Police had been searching for the driver of the car, now he has been arrested as per Raj Shekhar Jha of Times of India.

Shahrukh is an auto-lifter who was fleeing on a stolen Honda City. According to the Police, as told to OpIndia.com, he was driving in an extremely rash manner. Contrary to several media reports, no one was injured.

However, none of the rioters have been arrested yet. When OpIndia.com spoke to DCP Meghna Yadav in the morning, not even an FIR was lodged over the matter. The Police’s main concern was arresting Shahrukh. Now that it has been taken care of, there are expectations that action will be taken against the rioters as well.

People are angry and disappointed over the fact that no arrests have been made in the matter of rioting. Videos had gone viral on social media which showed Namazis damaging a public vehicle.

MP CM Kamal Nath gives ads in local newspaper to blame the previous government for power cuts

Under pressure after a humiliating defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has now shifted the blame on the previous BJP government after failing to deliver services in the state.

Attacked by the people and opposition parties in the state for severe power shortage and unscheduled power cuts, Chief Minister Kamal Nath has now desperately resorted to publishing advertisements in local newspapers indirectly blaming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for creating problems which are leading to these power cuts.

The advertisements put up by Kamal Nath government claims that there is no shortage of electricity in Madhya Pradesh but implied that it is BJP which had created hurdles that are leading to power cuts.

“I want to assure you that shortage of electricity is no reason behind the power related problems being experienced for the past few days,” the advertisements read. “The reasons are not making improvements in the system in the past and creating manmade obstructions in smooth supply (of power).”

“MP is a power supply state and the random power cuts are due to tripping and technical glitches. The government will not allow people to suffer and will take action against any negligence from the power department”.

Reportedly, the advertisements come at a time when Kamal Nath has been receiving criticism from the BJP over his inability to provide electricity. Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State in the Ministry of Steel, had criticised the Madhya Pradesh government for being ineffective in providing either development or relied on people in Madhya Pradesh.

Reportedly, the CM’s media manager has clarified that by ‘man-made obstructions, the CM means ‘BJP minded people’. Nath’s move comes soon after famous Urdu poet Rahat Indori had tweeted regarding the frequent power cuts in the state during Ramzan. Indori’s tweet had gone viral on social media inviting a lot of jibes and puns at the Kamal Nath government.

Pro-Khalistan slogans raised at the Golden Temple on the 35th anniversary of Operation Blue Star

On Thursday morning, pro-Khalistan slogans were raised at the Golden Temple while a programme was being held by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) on the 35th anniversary of the Operation Blue Star. Operation Blue Star was the code name for Indian military action carried out between 1 to 8 June 1984 to remove militant Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his followers from Harminder Sahib complex in Amritsar. It was launched by the then prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi.

There was an altercation between security personnel and several Sikh men were seen wearing the t-shirt of slain Sikh militants like that of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale while raising slogans.

In the video taken by Republic, several supporters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were seen to have raised swords in his support. The protesters were demanding entry into the Akal Takht saying that had wanted to deliver a message for the Sikh community. Amidst the security arrangements in the city the radical Sikh outfit, Dal Khalsa, has called for a shut down in Amritsar to protest against army action in the Golden Temple.

The security was increased in the city of Amritsar in anticipation of similar incidents that have happened in the past on June 6th. Around 5,000 security personnel have been deployed in the city, including Rapid Action Force companies and several paramilitary forces. Flag marches are also being conducted in several areas and surveillance of vulnerable areas is being carried out through CCTV cameras. Policemen have been deployed at all entry and exit points of the city. A ban has also been enforced on carrying arms, including sharp-edged weapons, for the next five days.

The SGPC has also deployed its task force within the Golden Temple to prevent any untoward incident. The task force also was checking the antecedents of devotees who have come to the Golden Temple for a night stay as part of its measures to keep a check on troublemakers.

In March this year, India had raised serious objections to Pakistan’s inclusion of Khalistanis in Kartarpur corridor committee. The government had objected to the inclusion of Gopal Singh Chawla and Bishen Singh in the committee, both are Khalistani extremists and Chawla is also known to be close with LeT chief Hafiz Saeed.

On March 9th 2019, some ISI backed Khalistanis attacked a number of British Indians who were standing outside the Indian High Commission in London. The men wearing Sikh turbans raised slogans ‘Naraa-e-Taqbeer’ and ‘Allah-u-Akbar.

In April, the Canada government has modified the 2018 Public Report on the Terrorist Threat to Canada and removed the mention of Sikh extremism from the report as a result of the lobbying efforts of several Sikh groups such as the Ontario Gurdwara Committee (OGC). Earlier this month, it was reported that these Sikh groups have also been mounting pressure to the Trudeau government to declare nationwide Sikh Genocide Remembrance Day for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

RBI cuts repo rates for third time in a year; alters policy stand to ‘accommodative’

The Reserve Bank of India has delivered another rate cut by 25 basis points, the third consecutive time in a year. The repo rate-the key interest at which the RBI lends to the banks will now be 5.75 per cent. The central bank has also shifted its policy stance from ‘neutral’ to ‘accommodative’.

The move is expected to bring down the loan EMIs(equated monthly instalments). The last time when RBI took the decision to lower interest rates this rapidly was in 2013 to rev up the declining economy from the growth rates that had descended to a decade low.

After the central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) concluded its second bi-monthly monetary policy review for 2019-20, the decision to cut rates was announced. Most economists were expecting rate cuts by 25 bps. The decision to reduce the repo rate was unanimous by the Committee. Earlier, the RBI had reduced repo rates from 6.5 per cent to 6 per cent in two stages.

The statement released by the central bank on its website says that the MPC has observed that growth impetus weakened significantly as demonstrated in a further widening of the output gap compared to the April 2019 policy. The has committee has revised both its growth and inflation forecasts for the current fiscal.

The RBI has reassessed the GDP growth downwards to 7% from its earlier estimation of 7.2%. The MPC has maintained that it expects growth to pick up in the second half of FY20, with the first half yielding growth in the range of 6.4-6.7% and 7.2-7.5% in the second half.

The forecast for the Consumer Price inflation for the first half of fiscal year 2019-20 stands at 3-3.1% from 2.9-3% earlier, while the prediction for the second half is revised to 3.4-3.7% from 3.5-3.8% as projected earlier.

The next meeting of the MPC is scheduled to happen between August 5 to 7, 2019.

No FIR registered against violent mob in Delhi yet, usual suspects maintain stoic silence over the matter

On the occasion of Eid, Delhi was marred by mob violence by members of the minority community. After a speeding car had rushed past Namazis in Khujrehi, East Delhi, the devotees went on a violence spree and vandalized a bus. News also spread that 17 people were injured by the car but that was categorically denied by the Delhi Police.

OpIndia.com spoke with DCP Meghna Yadav again today at around 11:20 am and it was confirmed that no FIR has been registered thus far over the damage caused to public property. We were told that the Police was primarily concerned with catching the person driving the car. We were also told that no one was injured in the resultant stone pelting and the Police will consider registering an FIR after it has evaluated the videos that are doing the rounds on social media.

DCP Yadav said that the person driving the car has been identified but she could not tell us the name yet. However, according to reports, the person is one Shahrukh. According to the Police, the car was being driven very rashly.

The Delhi Police has come under intense criticism from people who believe it is cowering before a particular section of the community and is awarding them special treatment. People are also anguished over the fact that not even an FIR has been registered over the mob violence yet.

Unfortunately enough, rampage by Namazis after prayers has become far too frequent in recent times. In April, last year, Muslims had gone on a rampage at Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh supposedly protesting against the rape in Kathua.

Kashmir routinely witnesses such violence with three people dying in post prayer clashes in 2016. In 2017 as well, such violence and clashes broke out between youths and the security forces, in the Srinagar and the Pulwama district.

The post-Friday prayer violence is sadly also not restricted to Kashmir and in August 2017, the police had to fire at a mob in Aligarh which was resorting to incessant stone pelting after Friday prayers. Post-Eid prayers too had seen intense violence in July 2017 when a large mob decided to attack a police station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

Last year, youth in Bihar were arrested for playing pro-Pakistan songs to celebrate Eid. Some Muslims ransacked a Temple in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh this year as Hindus refused to stop playing devotional songs on loudspeakers. Five people have been arrested over the matter.

Along expected lines, the secular camp is maintaining a stoic silence over the entire matter. Newly elected BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, who had spoken out over the fake Gurugram ‘hate crime’ incident, is yet to say a single word over the damaging of public property in his own constituency. Others who are quick to denounce Kanwar Yatra and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans as being inherently violent haven’t condemned the mob violence in Delhi at all.

The Delhi Police reports to the Union Home Ministry. Therefore, people who had great expectations from Amit Shah have expressed disappointment over the fact that no action has been taken against the vandals yet.
