After poll drubbing, disgruntled RS MP Misa Bharti withdraws approval for projects worth Rs 15 crores

After a humiliating defeat from the Pataliputra constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Rajya Sabha member Misa Bharti has withdrawn the sanctioned approvals worth Rs 15 crores from her MPLAD fund.

Under MPLAD funds, each Member of Parliament from either House gets Rs 5 crore every year to carry out developmental work in his/her constituency. However, as per the reports, Misa Bharti, who got elected to the Upper House in 2016 did not use the funds for the first two years of her tenure. However, in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Misa Bharti is reported to have extravagantly spent the funds from her MPLA funds in the rural Patna which comes under the Pataliputra constituency.

After losing the Pataliputra constituency to the sitting BJP MP and the former Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, sanctions previously approved for the development projects under MPLAD have been brusquely withdrawn. One of the Planning Department officials said to the PTI, “The sudden refusal to fund the projects has landed us in a soup. We had MP’s approval for projects worth Rs 15 crores and we had sanctioned for those worth Rs 6 crores. After her abrupt decision, we will have a lot of paperwork to be done.”

When asked about the recent move, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said that he cannot comment on the issue as he does not have “full knowledge” of the matter. The BJP spokesperson Sanjay Singh ‘Tiger’ said, “Discrimination based on whether voters have voted for you or not sends a very wrong signal to the people.” JDU spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad echoed a similar sentiment. “It is unbecoming of a legislator to undo the approved on the account of an electoral defeat. It is against the democratic tradition,” he said.

The Pataliputra constituency was carved out after the delimitation exercise in 2008. However, in 2009 Lalu Prasad Yadav lost the seat to his close aide Ranjan Yadav who had fought against him from the JDU ticket. In 2014, the RJD supremo’s daughter Misa Bharti was fielded from the constituency, resulting in a rebellion by Ram Kripal Yadav who moved to the BJP and defeated her from there. In 2019 too, Ram Kripal Yadav trounced Misa Bharti from the constituency which is considered as a prestige issue for the Yadav clan.

The performance of the RJD, whose supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is convicted for his role in the fodder scam, was dismal in the Lok Sabha elections. Out of the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar, RJD could not manage to win a single seat.

Cricket World Cup Match preview – England v West Indies: A run feast in making?

The two teams with the biggest hitters of the tournament will face each other at Southampton where finally some sunshine is expected during the day. This may look like an even contest, but West Indies has not won a single game against England in the World Cup since 1979 whereas England has won the next five encounters.

England will be playing a match after a gap of 6 days, are at number 4 in the points table and would be expecting to grab the 2 points against the dark horses of the tournament. A win here will place them above at number 2 spot.

England has a strong batting line up, which already everyone saw in their previous three outings. The only team to score 300 or more each time they went out to bat in this tournament.

Their bowling and fielding have been excellent, and the home fans are surely going to enjoy their team playing. However, England should remember that they couldn’t win the bilateral series against West Indies in the Carribean Island in March this year, despite being the better team.

West Indies, who lost their previous game Australia and a washout against South Africa, must be a little worried. They need to win this match to keep themselves in the hunt for the semis.

Their bowling reminds us of their great past, accurate and on target always in the two matches. However, they must remember that they have to bowl against one of the most reliable batting line up and power hitters. There is much hype when it comes to their batting, but they haven’t done anything extraordinary so far. Their top order must click if they want to beat England in a high-scoring game

The fielding has let them down a bit against Australia, which they can work upon as catches win matches, especially against the top teams, so their support is extremely critical.

Players to watch out

Chris Gayle had an excellent outing against the poms in the home series in which he smashed 424 runs at a strike rate of 134 with 39 sixes in 4 matches. He will be eyeing for a big hundred today, and if he does that, half the job is done for West Indies.

Jofra Archer, who was born and brought up in West Indies, will be critical against West Indian opener Chris Gayle. Jofra has been included in the place of Wiley to strengthen their bowling unit, which lacks aggression on the field. He is the primary threat to the West Indies, and they should play him out without any casualties.

Bihar: 55 year old Kalam Ansari caught red-handed while raping a 10 year old girl, VHP calls for a bandh in Sheohar

The VHP today called for a bandh in Sheohar, Bihar after a 55-year-old man, Kalam Ansari was caught raping a 10-year-old girl Meera (name changed) on June 10. As per sources, the VHP called for a bandh following the rape to protest against the cases of sexual assault against minor girls.

According to sources, the rape was reported from Hiramma police station where the 55-year-old Ansari was caught raping the minor girl. The local residents gathered together and first beat up the accused before handing him over to the police. The police confirmed that they have arrested one person in the case but refused to divulge any more information.

As per our sources, the area is a Muslim-majority area and this matter has escalated and taken a communal angle. The Police, as well as villagers, are also little hesitant to comment on the case.

Earlier this week, a Muslim mob in Nurpur, Begusarai, Bihar attacked a family and sexually assaulted two women belonging to Mahadalit community, while trying to kill one of the members of the family. The

Read resignation letter by RG Kar Hospital doctors in a mass protest, demand unconditional apology from Mamata Banerjee

The Bengal Crisis has escalated quickly after Mamata Banerjee accused the protesting doctors of being ‘outsiders’ and dubbed the entire matter a conspiracy by her political opponents. Now, several doctors at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have resigned demanding an apology from the Chief Minister for her remarks.

OpIndia.com has accessed the resignation letters of 16 doctors at the institution. In the letter submitted to the Director of Medical Educations and Executive Officio Secretary of the Health & Family Welfare Department (HFWD), the doctors said that the situation was “not ideal” for patient care service. In light of the current circumstances, as they were unable to render their services, the doctors submitted their resignations.

Yesterday, Professor Saibal Kumar Mukherjee and Professor Saurabh Chattopadhyay issued their resignations as the Principal and Medical Superintendent/Vice-Principal respectively of NRS Medical College & Hospital. Several others from Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital, too, handed over their resignations.

Matters have escalated gravely in Bengal. The angst within the medical fraternity is palpable. The prevailing sentiment is that Mamata Banerjee could sit in a Dharna for her ‘chamcha’ Police Officer but is completely ignoring the concerns of doctors and interns.

Doctors from all over India are now joining the protest expressing solidarity with their colleagues. The India Medical Association has declared “All India Protest Day” on Friday against the incident and expressed solidarity with the striking doctors. AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital and resident doctors across Maharashtra will also join other doctors across the nation on one-day strike tomorrow in the backdrop of violence with resident doctors in West Bengal.

Veer Savarkar loses the ‘Veer’ prefix as Congress government re-writes history textbooks in Rajasthan

The Ashok Gehlot led Congress government in Rajasthan has axed the prefix ‘Veer’ from freedom fighter Savarkar’s name in the revised Class X social science textbook in the state.

According to the recommendations made by the textbook review committee set up by Rajasthan government on February 13 this year, Savarkar will be instead referred to as “conspirator who plotted the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi” and one who begged for clemency from the British government.

The new books of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) will be distributed in the market by the Rajasthan State Textbook Board (RSTB). This revision came to light after a specimen of the new textbook that will be made available for the next academic session was leaked to the media.

Similarly, in the revised history textbooks for class XII, Savarkar is addressed as ‘Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’. It describes how Savarkar, troubled by the torture inflicted on him in the Cellular Jail by the British, called himself a ‘son of Portugal’ in his second mercy petition on November 14, 1911. He sent four mercy petitions to the British. Following his freedom, it says Savarkar worked towards establishing India as a ‘Hindu nation’ and gave the call to ‘militarise Hinduodom’.

Savarkar opposed the Quit India movement in 1942 and the creation of Pakistan in 1946. After the murder of Gandhi on January 30, 1948, he was tried on charges of conspiring for murder and aiding Godse, but he was acquitted from the case, reads the new textbook under the Congress regime in Rajasthan.

The Congress’ self-absorption pulls them back from crediting India’s evolvement to anyone else apart from its own ancestry. In merely six months of ruling the Congress in Rajasthan is resolute not only to reverse the previous BJP Government’s decision to include the contribution of freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar in the school curriculum but also to portray him in a bad light because of their deep-seated hatred.

Congress has on several occasions attempted to malign Veer Savarkar’s contributions to India’s freedom by branding him as a “loyal colonialist”. So much so that Congress President Rahul Gandhi had tried to slander the freedom fighter sacrifices by portraying him a ‘traitor’ and a ‘British stooge’.

In May, when Congress had proposed this change in the school curriculum, Vasudev Devnani, former education minister in the Vasundhara Raje government, claimed that the Ashok Gehlot government was trying to indulge in ‘Congressisation’ of education and following a policy of minority appeasement.

The BJP government had reviewed the school curriculum in Rajasthan and as part of “curriculum re-structuring” by the State Institute of Education Research and Training, had (SIERT) included Indian personalities like “Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Maharaja Suraj Mal and Mahatma Gandhi” in History books, who they felt, have not been given their due in Indian textbooks.

The Congress had then lashed out at the Vasundhara Raje government alleging that the BJP government was attempting to saffronise Rajasthan’s education system.

Moreover, two weeks after Congress ousted BJP in Rajasthan, the Ashok Gehlot-led government had declared that his government would infuse new thoughts into the education system and review textbooks and other reference material that were revised by the Vasundhara Raje-led dispensation.

Going by their disposition to oppose whatever Modi and his government says or does, Congress in Rajasthan had also decided to reverse the decision of the previous BJP government to include a portion of demonetisation in the political science textbook. It also removed the name of RSS ideologue Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s name from a scholarship test for secondary school students.

Similarly, the government had announced the revision of class 8th English textbooks by removing a picture of ‘Jauhar‘.

Talks were ongoing for speedy resolution before Mamata Banerjee threatened medical fraternity, decisions for safety of doctors were taken

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee escalated the ongoing crisis in West Bengal by blaming ‘outsiders’ and the BJP for the series of protests by medical professionals in the state. Now, OpIndia.com has learnt that constructive decisions were taken on the 12th of June in a meeting between the state Health & Family Welfare Department (HFWD) and the Principals and Medical Superintendent cum Vice President of Medical Colleges and Hospitals across Kolkata and some representatives of Junior Doctors.

All of this was before Mamata Banerjee destroyed the goodwill that was generated. Our sources told us that there was a possibility that the matter would have been resolved without much further delay if the West Bengal Chief Minister had not threatened the junior doctors and others of the medical fraternity and politicized the matter. We were told that talks were ongoing between the stakeholders and the state government for a speedy resolution before Banerjee worsened the situation with her remarks.

Most of the decisions taken in the meeting were concerned with increased security for the medical fraternity. The decision to conduct a joint security audit by the HFWD and Police administration within a week was taken and consequently, loopholes were to be plugged and security increased. A single point of contact regarding security in every medical institution was also proposed.

In addition to these, the decision to conduct an assessment of the need to increase the number of outsourced security personnel across medical institutions in the state was also taken. Plus, “sensitization” of the doctors and outsource security personnel in dealing with the patient parties’ resentments and grievances were to be conducted by senior police officials.

None of the decisions are concerned with the actions taken against the perpetrators of the violent attack on the doctors and interns at NRS Hospital on Monday night and the subsequent mob violence that followed in medical institutions across the state. However, that is understandable as the agenda of the meeting was increased security for medical professionals.

However, all of this occurred on Wednesday. Even after the decisions were taken, our sources told us that there was no certainty that the matter would be resolved quickly enough as the state government suffered a great trust deficit. The medical fraternity was unsure if the decisions would be implemented at all. However, as the meeting indicates, talks were underway and past precedents suggest that discussions usually lead to a resolution within a short span of time. But all of that was thrown out of the window when Banerjee, the day after, threatened the medical fraternity. The trust in the state government, which was already at an all-time low, suffered a further blow.

Since then, Professor Saibal Kumar Mukherjee and Professor Saurabh Chattopadhyay issued their resignations later on Thursday as the Principal and Medical Superintendent/Vice-Principal respectively of NRS Medical College & Hospital. Several others from Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital, too, handed over their resignations.

The crisis which began on Monday following the heinous attack on doctors and interns at NRS Hospital following the death of Mohammed Sayeed, who is said to be 85 years old at the time, due to natural causes hasn’t yet been resolved. And Medical colleges and hospitals across the state have been attacked and others feat that theirs might be next.

4 accused in Malegaon blast case granted bail by Bombay high court

Four of the accused in the Malegaon blast case have been granted bail by the Bombay High Court. As per reports, Lokesh Sharma, Dhan Singh, Rajendra Chaudhary and Manoj Narwariya were granted bail today.

As per reports, the bail has come three years after Dhan Singh and Lokesh Sharma were discharged by the NIA in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

The 2006 Malegaon blast case had two sets of accused as the investigation shifted from ATS Mumbai, CBI and the NIA. The case is currently with the NIA. It was transferred to the NIA  in 2010.

The Maharashtra ATS had initially arrested nine men and claimed the involvement of banned Islamic organisation SIMI in the blasts. Swami Aseemanand, who was an accused in the Mecca Masjid and Ajmer blasts had stated before a magistrate that the blasts were the handiwork of some RSS Pracharaks. The NIA, in its charge sheet, had claimed that the SIMI members had no involvement in the blasts.

The NIA in 2013 had named Dhan Singh, Lokesh Sharma, Rajendra Chaudhary and Manoj Narwariya, the members of a Hindu organisation Abhinav Bharat as the main accused in the blast case.

The blast in 2006 near the Hamidia Mosque in Malegaon had claimed 37 lives and injured over a hundred people.

Andhra Pradesh: YSR Congress MLA takes oath in party chief and CM Jagan Reddy’s name in assembly

Expressing utmost loyalty to the party chief, an YSR Congress MLA in Andhra Pradesh, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy on Wednesday took oath in the name of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in assembly. The newly elected Nellore Rural MLA was the only one took oath in the name of his CM while all the other MLAs took oath in the name of God.

The pro tem Speaker Appala Naidu objected to this and made the MLA take the oath again in the name of God, as per the Assembly rules. The Article 188 of the India Constitution, Rule 5-A of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the AP Legislative Assembly requires Legislators to take oath in the name of God or give solemn affirmation owing allegiance to the Constitution in case the person does not believe in Gods.

While speaking to the media, Sridhar clarified that he didn’t take oath in Jagan Mohan’s name as a publicity stunt. “He made me MLA twice. I am emotionally attached to him. I am not aspiring for any position by the oath in his name. I have given away my salary as MLA to poor students in the last five years”, he said.

Sridhar had also claimed that in the past few TDP MLAs were allowed to the oath in the name of NT Rama Rao. He also questioned, “What is wrong if I consider my leader as my god?”.

After YSRCP Cheif Jagan Mohan Reddy’s massive victory in the Andhra election polls, the Assembly conducted its first session on June 12 after the oath-taking ceremony of the MLAs. In an unprecedented move, the newly elected Chief Minister has announced that his government will have as many as five deputy chief ministers.

Dr Harsh Vardhan appeals to Mamata Banerjee not to make this a ‘prestige issue’ after doctors go on strike following violence against them

Union Minister for Health, Dr Harshvarshan has come out to appeal to Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister, not to turn the issue of doctors going on strike following violence being unleashed on them as a matter of prestige.

He said that Mamata Banerjee gave the doctors and ultimatum, and hence, they got agitated and went on strike. He also said that he will write to Mamata Banerjee today and try to speak to her on the issue.

Furhter, Dr Harshvardhan appealed to the doctors who have not gone on nationwide strike to hold symbolic protests only & continue to carry out their duties. He said that he assures the doctors that the government is committed towards their safety.

Doctors accross the country have protested against the ongoing violence against West Bengal doctors that has seemed to gone unabated and unchecked. The ones registering their protest included Mamata Banerjee’s own nephew and the mayor’s daughter.

The India Medical Association has declared “All India Protest Day” on Friday against the incident and expressed solidarity with the striking doctors.

Junior doctors have been agitating since Tuesday as their colleagues are being attacked in the state. The doctors had also decided to reject the Chief Minister’ ultimatum and continue their strike until their demands are met.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered the doctors to resume work within 4 hours or face action. Reportedly, even the supporters of the TMC are unhappy about the incident and are protesting against Mamata Banerjee for violencce against the doctors.

It began as a small protest by a group of junior doctors at the state-run SSKM Hospital after doctors and interns at the NRS Hospital were brutally attacked by a mob on the premises of the hospital after a patient named Mohammed Sayeed reportedly died of natural causes. As the protest began attacks against doctors further escalated and mobs attackedstudents and interns at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital as well.

Video: Pak PM Imran Khan breaks diplomatic protocol at SCO summit, remains brazenly seated while welcoming other leaders

The diplomatic etiquettes of Imran Khan, the parody Prime Minister of the terror state of Pakistan, is being questioned after he broke the diplomatic protocol once again at the opening ceremony of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit held in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek on Thursday.

In a video released by Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of the opening ceremony of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan PM Imran Khan can be seen lost in his own world as he brazenly took his seat while the other world leaders are still entering the hall one after the other.

While the entire hall was still standing to applaud for the various heads of state, Pakistan PM Imran Khan, who seems to be unaware of diplomatic protocols chose to sit and relax in his seat. Upon realizing that he was perhaps the only one seated, he stood for a brief moment but slipped into his seat again.

This is not the first time that Imran Khan embarrassed himself and his country Pakistan. Back on June 3, Imran Khan had received flak from his own countrymen after failing to adhere to diplomatic ethics and allegedly disrespecting King Salman.

Imran Khan had met Saudi King Salman at Arab nation’s OIC Summit at Mecca in Saudi Arabia, during which Khan was received by King Salman bin Abdulaziz himself on arrival at the summit. However, Imran Khan said something to King Salman and before the interpreter could interpret it for the King and he could react, Khan had casually walked off.

Earlier, in February this year, Imran Khan had also broken protocol in front of Saudi Arabian crown prince Mohammed-bin-Salman during a state-organised lunch. However, a visibly hungry Imran Khan, much like his country, began to have his lunch at the table even before the presidential address.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation. It’s a Eurasian political, economic and military organisation aiming to maintain peace, security and stability in the region. The members of the SCO are Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan.
