This tweet of Arvind Kejriwal predicting Amit Shah as Home Minister has come back to haunt him

On May 10, even before the polling for 2019 Lok Sabha elections got over, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal has ‘warned’ voters that if the BJP comes to power, then Amit Shah would become the Union Home Minister.

He had asked voters to be cautious before voting.

Fast forward 20 days later, BJP has emerged as a single largest party at 303 seats crossing the magic figure of 272, by a huge margin. Last evening Narendra Modi swore in as Prime Minister for the second time along with his council of ministers. Earlier today, the Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a press release which showed Shah was allotted the Home Ministry.

Twitter users dug up Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet to again make fun of him.

Some Twitter users even mocked him and thanked him how they listened to him for the first time and voted as he cautioned them.

Clearly, people couldn’t have it enough.

While AAP supporters come to term with their chief’s prediction coming true, BJP supporters are elated with the portfolio allotted to Amit Shah.

A constant reminder? Rafale replica placed outside Air Chief Marshal’s residence in Delhi across Congress HQ

A replica of the Rafale jet has been erected outside the residence of Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa in Delhi. Coincidentally, his residence is right next to Congress headquarters.

The Air Force Chief has great admiration for the Rafale aircraft. During the huge controversy around the Rafale Deal, he had commended its capabilities. “When Rafales come in, our air defence capabilities will enhance manifold, and Pakistan will be deterred from lingering around the border and the LoC with the kind of capabilities we will possess, for which they don’t have an answer,” BS Dhanoa had said.

As for the Congress party itself, the replica will serve as a continuous reminder of the monumental failure of their party president Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai‘ slogan. The Congress president’s sister appears to still believe that his party would have succeeded in defeating Narendra Modi had the senior leaders of his party chanted ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ just one more time with more conviction.

However, it does appear that basing their entire campaign around the Rafale Deal proved to be rather costly for the Congress party. That a replica of the aircraft has now come up next to their headquarters makes one wonder if the Wheels of Fate themselves are having a laugh at the expense of the Congress party’s misfortune.

Uttar Pradesh: Muslim brother kills woman for marrying a Hindu man

A woman has been killed in Uttar Pradesh by her brother and family members for having married outside her religion and changing her religion after marriage. The murder took place at Karua Sahabganj village in Bareily district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to media reports, 19-year-old Mohini, whose name was Nargis before she chose to have love marriage with a Hindu man Ram Kishore from the same village, was killed by Gulsher, her elder brother. Mohini died on the spot while Ram Kishore is admitted to a hospital.

The Muslim woman and the Hindu man had got married in a court in April last year after the woman’s family refused to accept this relationship. After marriage, the young couple had left village to escape the wrath of the bride’s unhappy family.

The couple had returned to their village a few days ago and were on their way to get their newborn daughter vaccinated, when woman’s family attacked the couple. Mohini alias Nargis was shot at her temple leading to her instant death. Murderers fled the scene after committing the crime.

Police force has been deployed in the village lest the incident leads to communal tensions. Police officers have told media that the accused left the village after locking their home, but police companies were looking for them and they will soon be arrested.

This unfortunately is not the first time when such a crime has taken place. Last year in West Bengal, a Muslim woman was similarly killed by her brother and father for being in a relationship with a Hindu man, while earlier a pregnant Muslim woman was burnt alive by her family members in Karnataka for the same reason.

Mamata’s intolerance: 10 people have been arrested after Mamata got irked hearing ‘Jai Shree Ram’, threatened action

In Mamata Banerjee’s intolerant West Bengal at least a dozen of people face her ire for chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans in North 24 Parganas. West Bengal police have arrested at least 10 people from Barrackpore for chanting slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in North 24 Parganas at Mamata Banerjee’s convoy yesterday. According to reports, the arrested have been booked under bailable sections of the IPC.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been on the edge after BJP has made successful inroads in West Bengal securing 18 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Banerjee who is known to be hypersensitive even when it comes to humour or constructive criticism has in recent times been displaying similar volatility to the name of Lord Ram.

It so seems that the frustration of gradually crumbling has left didi (Mamata as referred widely) completely delirious.

Yesterday, Mamata had raised strong objections to the people who were chanting the slogan of Jai Shree Ram as she passed through the area. Visibly irked Mamata was spotted getting down of her car at least twice and losing her cool at the onlookers. She was also heard using defamatory language, calling the people chanting the slogan ‘outsiders’.

Accusing the BJP of pitting non-Bengalis against Bengalis, Mamata had asked the police to immediately take down names of those chanting the slogans so that stern action could be initiated against them. Mamata in the video, which was doing rounds on social media, was heard threatening the crowd of strict repercussions.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcMyqHFtFzQ]

Mamata Banerjee also alleged that people chanting Jai Shree Ram were criminals and they were attacking and abusing her.

This is not the first time that Mamata has reacted like this to the chants of Jai Shree Ram. A video of hers had gone viral earlier this month in which she was seen confronting people Jai Shree Ram in a similar way.

Incidentally, as BJP surge in Bengal gets bigger, Mamata’s wrath also seems to magnify. Innumerable BJP karyakartas have lost their lives as Trinamool Congress goons under Mamata Banerjee’s realm have carried out targeted killings of the ground-level workers. Dozens of BJP workers and leaders have been brutally attacked or killed before and during the election seasons in Bengal.

She cares, that is why she won: Asha Bhosle thanks Smriti Irani for helping her post oath-taking ceremony

In the mad rush that followed the conclusion of swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi and his council of ministers, legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who was also invited to be part of the ceremony, was left stranded.

However, help came in the form of newly appointed Union Minister Smriti Irani, who came to her rescue and ensured that Asha Bhosle reaches home safely. She later took to Twitter to thank Irani and said that “she cares & that’s why she won.”

Smriti Irani, the newly elected Member of Parliament defeated three-time MP from Amethi Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Amethi has traditionally been a ‘family seat’ of the Gandhis with Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and later Rahul Gandhi representing it in Lok Sabha. Staring at an imminent defeat, Rahul Gandhi had contested from another seat, Wayanad, in Kerala, which was considered a ‘relatively safe seat’ for him to win.

Irani won Amethi by a margin of over 50,000 votes.

Preview – Match 2: Pakistan v West Indies – Battle of Dark Horses

The two most unpredictable teams of this World Cup, Pakistan and West Indies will lock horns on Friday. They are the dark horses of this World Cup. None of them is considered as favorites but on their day they can beat any team and ruin their chances to reach the top 4 in the points table.

There was a time when playing against the West Indies was a formality to be on the losing side. They won the first two World Cup without any fuss but in 1983, India clinched the victory from the jaw of defeat despite being bowled out for just 183 in the finals against West Indies.

Since then, West Indies couldn’t live up to the expectations of their fans. They haven’t reached the World Cup finals since 1983 and the last time they reached a semi-final of a World Cup was in 1996. They had to play in World Cup qualifiers to qualify for this World Cup and is the last team to qualify.

The current side is doing well of late. T20 champions Gayle and Russell have been included in the squad. Gayle was quite destructive against England in the last ODI series. Russell was brutal in IPL but their main hope is Shai Hope. This little man is in tremendous form. He has scored 170, 109, 30, 87, 74, 21 and 101 in the last 7 innings for West Indies.

Their bowling isn’t as good as their batting but West Indies bat pretty much all the way to number 08 – it’s a line-up that takes the pressure off their bowlers. Their bowling, as usual, depends a lot on their pace attack.

Pakistan, on the other hand, has always been the most unpredictable team of any format.

They won the World Cup in 1992 after losing 3 out of 5 matches (with one being washed out) in the first phase of the tournament. It is the team that can win against the best team of the tournament and loses against the lowest ranked team.

Even though they lost to Afghanistan in the warm-up game, Pakistan unexpectedly doing well in batting. They scored 300 and more runs in three consecutive innings. A consistent Baba Azam, double centurion Fakar Zaman, and Inzi’s nephew Imam-ul-Haq are the backbone of this batting line up.

Pakistan has a serious pace attack which can destroy the best batting line-up on their day just like they did in Champions Trophy final against India in 2017. The problem is they are not consistent, and if they don’t do well, Pakistan has no chance to secure a place in the top 4.

All-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez give stability with both bat and ball and their experience should help Pakistan to win matches in crunch situations.

Latest: Pakistan has announced a 12 man squad for the match against West Indies. Shoaib Malick, Mohammad Hasnain, and Shaheen Afridi are benched.

Players to watch out

Chris Gayle, on his day he can destroy any bowling attack. He is ruthless and has hit 37 sixes in World Cup history, a record. He is in great form for West Indies and his recent 5 scores are as follows – 73, 135, 50, 162, 77. West Indies surely expecting a high score from him.

Pakistan’s batting a lot depends on his form, he is the most consistent batsman of his side.  He has scored a ton in the warm-up match against Afghanistan. Pakistanis believe that he is better than India’s Virat Kohli. So all eyes would be on him.

Pakistan v West Indies in ODIs

Begusarai: BJP Panchayat President killed after he was allegedly hit by iron rods, police undertakes further investigation

In another deplorable incident, BJP Panchayat President Gopal Singh died late last night after he was allegedly hit with an iron road by unidentified men in Amraur Kiratpur village of Singhoul in Begusarai, Bihar.

Gopal Singh was reportedly sleeping outside his house when the miscreants choked him and killed him by hitting him with iron rods. Begusarai police have called it murder and said that the matter would be investigated.

BJP leader Giriraj Singh had retained the Begusarai seat for BJP after trouncing CPI’s Kanhaiya Kumar by a staggering margin of over 4 lakh votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

However, this is not the first post-poll incident where BJP leader has faced the opposition’ ire. Even after the elections are over the BJP workers and supporters continue to pay the price.

After Smriti Irani defeated the Gandhi family scion and Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Amethi her close aide and newly-elected Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, Surendra Singh was brutally shot dead by unidentified assailants in her constituency of Amethi. His son had suspected involvement of some Congress supporters in the incident.

We had earlier reported how since May 23, the day of poll results, almost 9 BJP workers and supporters have been brutally killed and dozens attacked and injured simply because they worked for the BJP.

However, despite such extremities, it is the undying support of these workers which has paved the path of success for the Modi government, which is all set to undertake its second consecutive term after securing a majority on its own by securing 303 seats and propelling NDA alliance to a final tally of 353 seats in Lower House.

Video: Do we have the Catch of the World Cup already?

At The Oval, fans went crazy after Ben Stokes took a stunner in the outfield. In the opening game of the World Cup between England and South Africa, Stokes scored 89 runs, took 2 wickets and then took 2 catches for England. Despite being the highest scorer from both sides, it was his catch which became the talk of the town.

Former English captain Nasser Hussain, who was on the air, couldn’t believe his eyes, “No way! No, no way! You cannot do that, Ben Stokes. That is remarkable. That is one of the greatest catches of all time!”

The co-commentator Sourav Ganguly also in disbelief called it one the best catches of all time. The reaction started pouring from all over the world, especially on Twitter.

Harsha Bhogle in his tweet said this might be the catch of the tournament already.

Former South African player, Jonty Rhodes, who is regarded as the best fielder of all time by many, couldn’t stop himself from expressing his feeling when a fan asked him about the catch.

Eoin Morgan, captain of England team, was also shaking his head in disbelief, “he misjudged it at the start. He ran in, stopped and then I thought it was going to be way over his head. The next leap in that direction, unbelievable. I’ve only seen a catch like that made before by AB De Villiers in a game in Bangalore.”

But Stokes still doesn’t believe that this was the best catch taken by him. He said in a post-match presentation that the catch he took in 2015 Ashes was better than this because that was against Australia.

The crowd reaction says it all. ©ICC

‘”The crowd’s reaction behind me was pretty awesome. I just tried to take that in as much as I could,” said Stokes.

Tendulkar picks India, England and Australia as favourites to reach semi-finals of world cup

Sachin Tendulkar, the leading run scorer in World Cups, was present during the first match of the Cricket World Cup 2019. The modern great picked 3 players and 4 semifinalists when asked about his prediction for this World Cup.

Tendulkar was making his commentary debut for Star Sports at The Oval.

When asked which four teams he would pick for the semi-final, Tendulkar picked India, England, and Australia. For the 4th slot, he was a little confused between New Zealand and South Africa. But in the end, Tendulkar picked New Zealand as his 4th choice for semifinalists.

The batting great was on air for 13 overs at the start of South African innings. Tendulkar said that he is eagerly waiting to watch Rashid Khan bowl, “I think he’s going to be instrumental in creating those upsets in this tournament.”

Afghanistan is playing its second World Cup this time, but Rashid is playing his first. In 2015, they won against Scotland and lost to other teams but this time they are looking much more solid and confident.

Apart from India, Tendulkar picked two more players, each from Australia and England. Tendulkar believes that Australian opener David Warner will the best batsman of this edition. “Warner looked hungry, determined, focussed and fitter. In extreme conditions, he pushed himself and ran hard. He looks determined so I think he’s the batter to watch out for,” said Tendulkar.

Tendulkar also picked England’s new sensation, Jofra Archer as one of the players to watch out. Archer took 3 for 27 against South Africa in the opening game (Tendulkar picked Archer during the innings break). He thinks a lot will depend on how Archer will perform in a crunch situation.

Tendulkar will be part of the Star Sports commentary team and will be seen again during India v South Africa match on June 5.
